Chapter Two: The Event that Started it All

A/N- This is my first fanfic for Hetalia, so I apologize if the accents are off. I normally don't write dialogue like this style wise and decided to give it a shot.

Also trigger warning for some sensitive subject matter- 9/11, gore, blood

Anyway, enjoy!

America was busy giving the tour of the city to his fellow nations. Most of them were actually happy to join the tour, seeing how it would just allow them to spend more time with America. It was 8:30 in the morning and America took them to Central Park. The countries were in awe of its glory, hardly able to believe that nature this beautiful still existed in the center of such a musky city. Most of the countries who already paired up, ran off to explore. It left only the FACE family together, and America couldn't be happier with that. He hugged his brother closely, smiling that priceless smile. A cool summerish breeze filled the trees and the sun felt perfect. Taking a polaroid from his man purse, France hugged his family close. Snapping a photo, the picture came out perfect. England was blushing madly at France's hug, Canada was laughing at his brother and messing up his hair, and America was smiling. As France dried the photo, England went over to his two boys and ruffled their hair at the same time. France smiled happily, taking another photo. A candid of England and Canada pouring some fallen leaves onto America's head.

"Zis is perfect... I couldn't be 'appier... My family... Mon petit Matthew... Mon amour Arthur... And mon cher, Alfred... Zey truly are wondervul..."

France was interrupted from his mental monologue when Arthur dumped leaves on his head. Laughing hysterically, Arthur then kissed France's cheek.

"You really should get your head out of the cloud Francis... Enjoy this... Enjoy now..." Arthur chirped. The stubborn coot was usually grouchy, but today was different. Arthur woke up and decided to be happy today, kissing Francis awake and then cuddling him. Arthur couldn't place why he wanted to act this way, but from what the result was so far it was amazing.

"Ohonhon... My gorgeous Angleterre! How dare you ruin my 'air!" brushing the leaves from his ponytail he quickly tackled Arthur, pinning him to the ground. More leaves were dumped on Arthur and Canada quickly joined.

America was laughing as his family assaulted one another. He wiped the joyous tears from his eyes and fixed his glasses. Suddenly, a chill went down his spine. His ears picked up a buzzing noise and he looked in many directions.

8:45

The buzzing noise passed over them in the form of a plane. Alfred began to panic, why was it flying so low?

8:46

Terror. He heard his people's shrieks and ran immediately to them. By then the other members of the FACE family were confused. What was that buzzing noise they just heard? What was that loud bang? Francis looked around and saw black smoke in the sky. Canada and England also noticed the large smoke cloud, instantly worrying. Just then, Ludwig, Gilbert, Mathias, Feliciano, Lovino, and Antonio ran up to them.

"Vhat vas zat?!" Gilbert exclaimed, then the new group noticed the cloud of black debris.

"Mis amigos! I think the plane just hit a building!" Antonio shouted, and Lovino then looked at the trio of blonde nations.

"Hey! Where is burger bastard?!" Lovino yelped, and the countries looked around. Then it dawned on them, he went to his people. Canada quickly ran toward the smoke cloud, Lovino following. That's when the group bumped into Russia, China, Japan, Sweden, and Finland.

"What happened aru?! Why is there smoke?!" China yelled worriedly. Canada ran past them and the other group looked at Lovino, who was fast approaching. Russia snatched Lovino's coat sleeve and stopped him in his tracks.

"You will tell us what happened, da?" Ivan said, more like demanded. Lovino squirmed a bit.

"Let go you crazy vodka bastard! America is in danger!" Lovino finally broke from the grasp of the tall nation and ran. The others quickly followed, racing toward the smoke.

Canada had reached the smoke's source, and Lovino joined a second later. The World Trade Centers. Their eyes began to tear up as they witnessed people jumping, lives being lost every second. The group had caught up by now and were all equally in shock. No one moved, they couldn't. They were paralyzed at the horrid site. They all held onto someone: Tino clutched Berwald's sleeve and hid his face, Lovino's eyes were shielded by Antonio's neck, Feli hid his face in Ludwig's chest, Arthur and Francis embraced each other, Ivan shielded Yao and Matthew, and Matthias and Gilbert wanted to wretch at the scene. More sickening cracks were heard, Tino and Feli flinching as people splat onto the ground around them.

Blood, limbs, chaos

That's when Mattie noticed a familiar cowlick carrying three women in his arms. The other countries quickly snapped out as well, witnessing America's strength and will power. America was bleeding and had a large gash on his back. But he still kept going back in. The nations were about to run and help when...

9:03

The explosion roared against the sky, and America had just walked out with two large men and a young girl. The fire spat from the other tower like nothing, and more debris began to fly everywhere. The smoke was beginning to become overbearing, but America kept going. He and the other nations trudged their way through, America bearing most of the weight and pressure. He lifted rods and steel beams so the others could get through. They all witnessed America carrying people load after load, opening elevators manually to get people out, burns and blood appearing all over his paling body.

America had begun to grow weak, but he kept determined. Canada quickly snatched his brother by his sleeve and dragged him to the other countries, who began to fuss over their fellow nation. America couldn't be weak now. He quickly got up and escaped everyone's fussing, running higher into the second tower. Then he felt it, the pain in his chest. His capital had been hit, a large sizzling burn bleeding right through America's clothing. His screams of agony echoing the empty stairwell. America began to grow weary and collapsed onto his side.

Canada and France noticed their America collapse, running over immediately. Canada quickly picked up his younger twin and ran out as the building began to shake. All the nations stood far away as the building began to collapse. America was quickly losing blood as a large burn then appeared on his collarbone. The paramedics quickly ran over, bringing all four of the FACE members with them.

"Ve vill call you! Get America to safety!" Germany yelled to the trio of family members. They all nodded and quickly got into the ambulance. The ambulance was driving at the speed of light, the turbulence unbearable for Matthew's weak stomach. He began to vomit all the debris into a plastic, sterile bag. The course and tainted air making his throat burn. Francis held Matthew's hair out of his face while Arthur and him were getting patched up. They all didn't care much for their wounds, what about America? Their hearts began to race as the machines began to go insane.

"We're losing him! Move this damn thing faster, Marley!" One of the medics called, the driver nodding and pushing the gas. Blood was gushing from Alfred's body at an alarming rate, large plops being heard anytime a turn was too sharp or a stop too abrupt.

"His blood pressure is dropping, so is his heart rate!" The three others could only watch in horror as the medics fussed over Alfred. Canada hadn't stopped tearing, he was watching his brother die right now. He clutched France's shirt, and France was mumbling French lullabies in hopes of calming him down.

Matthew's throat still felt like it was on fire and his lungs were collapsing. The medics gave Matthew an air mask to help him breathe, and he began to feel better. Arthur felt like his world was collapsing. One of his sons was bleeding to death and one of them wasn't breathing properly. Francis was stunned silent, his world crashing just as fast as his lovers.

"Alfred you bloody git! Don't you dare die on me!" Arthur thought as tears trickled rapidly down his cheeks. The machines were starting to stabilize when they swerved into a parking lot. The medical doors busted open and doctors rushed to get Alfred out of the vehicle. They rushed him into the ER and Canada made an attempt to follow. He left the mask behind, finding his lungs working now that his brother was in need. But he was stopped by a large nurse as soon as he was about to get to the doors.

"I'm sorry sir, but you can't go back there," he said with a deep voice.

"What do you mean eh?! That's my little brother! Move dame it! I need to know he's going to be ok!" Matthew's tears flew from his face as he yelled at the nurse. Arthur and Francis quickly hugged him, and Matt sobbed into their chests.

"It's alright lad, Alfred will be ok" Arthur comforted, and Francis nodded.

"Mon petit, he will be fine... This is Alfred we're talkin' about... He is strong..." Francis added. Canada didn't stop crying though.

"Papa! Why did someone hurt him?!" Matthew asked, muffled by the chests of his parents. Arthur and Francis then looked at each other, their eyes widening. They realized it now. This wasn't an accident! This was an act of terror! A deliberate attack against their son! Francis' heart shattered to bits and Arthur couldn't even begin to quell the boiling anger inside of him. They all fell to their knees, crying a puddle in a matter of minutes.

Hours passed in that damn waiting room. None of the other countries were able to get out of Manhattan as of yet. Apparently, even diplomatic immunity doesn't apply in regards to a terrorist attack. Arthur's phone began to ring, seeing the number as Germany he quickly picked it up.

"Hello," Arthur said quietly.

"England... Ve vere finally able to get out of Manhattan... 'Ow iz he?" Germany asked worriedly, something not often found in the stern man's tone.

"We're still waiting... He's been in surgery for hours..." England informed. He could hear the crying of a heartbroken Finland, the curses of an impatient Romano, and the threats of an angry Prussia.

"Do you 'ave the name of ze hospital?" Germany and the other nations were waiting with bated breath.

"It's a hospital in the rural areas of Pennsylvania, True Hope Valley Hospital" Arthur informed before hearing the doors open.

"Family of Alfred Jones?!" the nurse yelled, Canada was up in an instant.

"We're about to get word of his condition, I will call you later," Arthur said.

"Ja... Ve are on our vay..." with that, he hung up. Arthur quickly joined Francis and Matthew. The nurse had a sad look on her face as she waved her hands. As she walked away, they quickly followed her. They were led to a narrow hallway clearly restricted for doctors. She opened large doors to go into a separate wing, on a plack it read V.I.P RESTRICTED. She then led them to the private office of a doctor, the plack read Herbert Razway. The nurse opened the door and then gently shut it behind them.
