Chapter 8
I've been really excited about this, so here we go!
Now it's really coming together >:)
-
Breakfast was... interesting to say the least. It was sort of quiet, but we all ate on the couch. I was already sitting there, and Dallon came out with the food. We just sat and watched TV honestly, but it was nice. And relaxing. Brendon took our plates in the kitchen with Dallon, so I just stayed on the couch, watching TV and checking my phone. And that's where I still was.
"So.." I heard a voice and looked up to see Dallon. "Brendon's going to stop at the store, and we thought that he could stop at Petco, and you could get things for your snake?"
"For Melvin?" I asked quickly. I mean hell yeah I wanna get stuff for him! Dallon just smiled and nodded, which caused me to smile. "Yeah, I wanna go!"
"Alright," he chuckled softly. "He's gonna go soon, so why don't you go get ready?" I didn't say anything, instead, I nodded, and quickly got up from the couch and rushed up the stairs, stumbling as I jumped up multiple at a time. I went into my room and quickly closed the door behind me. I quickly walked over to where I had dropped my suitcase the night before and lifted it onto my bed. I let out a huff as I dropped it onto the blankets, then quickly worked on unzipping it. I quickly grabbed my pair of jeans, and hunted for a shirt that wasn't band-themed. I grabbed one of my anime shirts, and looked for a hoodie. I eventually settled on an outfit, then rushed to get dressed.
I took a second to look over what I was wearing in the mirror, it looked alright! I wore a simple pair of black washed jeans with a few rips, then one of my Tokyo Ghoul shirts with my Salem hoodie that simply said, "Salem, a great place to hang." Of course, if you knew anything about Salem, it's where the Witch Trials took place, where they hung all the supposed, 'witches.' I've been there a few times with my mom.
I stood there for a few moments before sighing and going to grab my shoes and all of my CDs. I grabbed my phone and started to make my way out of my room, sighing softly. I was wearing my funky socks as I called them. I had a few pairs of funky socks, but these were my goat socks! They were a brown color, with different goats on them. I had a pair with sea otters, pugs eating pizza, and ones with llamas wearing a bandana and sunglasses that utterly reminded me of Brendon.
I was holding my shoes in my hand as I stepped down the stairs, I never liked wearing my shoes in the house. I put my shoes down as I slowly sat back down on the couch, right in the corner. Brendon nor Dallon was downstairs, so I figured they had gone upstairs. I just pulled out my phone and opened Instagram, starting to talk to the few friends I had.
It wasn't long before I heard footsteps, but I didn't care enough to turn and see who they were from. I just continued to scroll down Instagram, taking a moment to scroll into my reels and check out what videos there were.
"Alright, I'm ready to go whenever you are!" I looked over at Brendon, turning around on the couch.
"Hm?" I hummed softly, watching him.
"I'm ready-" I interrupted him, my brain finally catching up to what I know my ears heard.
"Alright! Lemme just put my shoes on..." I trailed off, quickly sliding off the couch and to the side, sitting down to stick my shoes on.
"You do that to me." I heard Dallon say softly and laugh a little, but I couldn't make out what Brendon said. I didn't really care anyways. After my shoes were on, I grabbed my phone and waited, not wanting to stay anything.
"Ready?" I heard Brendon, then looked over and just smiled and nodded. In one hand I had my case of CDs, in the other my phone. He looked back over at Dallon, and they exchanged a look and a little head nod, before Brendon opened the door.
"After you!" He smiled, which instantly caused me to smile as well. I hummed and walked outside, looking around excitedly. I followed him to the car, oh it was a beautiful day out! There were only a few clouds in the clouds, and they were all bright white puffy ones! The sky was bright blue, and there was a warm breeze.
He opened the driver's side door and got in, and I got in the passenger side. I quickly buckled in, putting my CDs and phone on my lap, still looking around curiously.
"What are those?" I heard him ask, and looked over again before following his gaze to my CDs. I didn't even fully realize I brought them, its so much of a habit now...
"Oh uhm- they're my CDs... I didn't even realize I brought 'em..."
"Do you wanna put one in?" He sounded excited, and I was about to say yes when I realize who my CDs consisted off.
"I-its alright!" I looked up quickly, then back down.
"Are you sure?" I nod quickly, looking out the window.
"Well- can I look at them quick? I won't say anything." He said softly, and I did hesitate, but I slowly handed them over. I shifted in my seat, propping my right foot against the bottle holder at the bottom of the door. I heard him flipping through the pages, but didn't look. The only reason I didn't want him to see them- I had every single Panic! at the Disco CD. Then, in order, I had Dallon's CD. Then, every single Twenty One Pilots CDs. I was currently working on the Fall Out Boy ones, and currently had From Under The Cork Tree, Folie a Deux, Save Rock and Roll, and American Beauty/American Physco. I had both AJR CDs, and Danger Days from MCR. Finally, at the very end, I had some Michael Jackson things from years ago, and some Queen CDs.
"Can I put one in?" He asked softly, to which I nodded. I heard him take the CD out and put it in the car, then close the case. I looked over at him, and he just smiled. Just like he said, he didn't say anything. He just handed the CDs back to me, and buckled in himself.
"Ready to go?" I smiled and nodded, trying to get comfortable in the seat. Soon, Another One Bites the Dust starts playing and I smile more. I loved Queen, thanks to my mom, and the very person sitting next to me. I started to tap my foot to the beat, looking out the window happily.

After about 20 minutes, we pulled into a plaza with quite a few stores in it. I looked around, slowly starting to sit up in my seat. The only plaza I ever went to in Rhode Island didn't have much, the biggest stores were Target, Home Depot, Barnes and Noble, Pet-Co, and Michaels! Oh this had much more!
Brendon found an empty parking spot and quickly parked before anyone took it, then shut the car off. I looked back over at him, then around, unsure of what to do.
"Hey, I figured we could get new clothes if you need any? It's supposed to be really hot in the next few days, and I'm not sure what you have with you. I just know that California can be considerably more hot then Rhode Island at times." He laughed softly, I could tell he was a little nervous. But damn, he was right. I didn't have too many clothes, and really had like- one pair of shorts.
"Yeah, I don't have a bathing suit or much for hot weather." I trailed off, still unsure of what to do or what to say.
"Alright, are you ready?" He turned to me, and smiled, and I couldn't help but to smile back.
"Mmmhm!" I hummed, quickly unbuckling my seatbelt. We both got out, and I followed him into a clothing store. Damn this place was big! I didn't really go clothing shopping in RI, I kinda just bought and gathered clothes from here and there wherever I saw something I liked.
"Alright, I have to get some things too, so if you want you can look around or, stick by me." I looked over at him and nodded, then looked around.
"I-it's just a big store..." There was a small pause before Brendon pulled his phone out of his pocket.
"Here... Put your phone number in here, and then I'll text you." I nodded and quickly took his phone, putting my phone number in his contacts. I clicked the name box and hesitated, before pressing on the emojis. I scrolled all the way to the animals, and clicked on the raccoon like- twice, and saved it. I handed Brendon his phone back, and I heard him chuckle, most likely at the name. There was a pause before anyone spoke, and I felt my phone buzz in my pocket. When I checked it, I saw it was from him.
"Did you get it?" I nod and smile softly, looking back up at him.
"Awesome. If something happens or you can't find me, text or call me." He smiled. "You ready?" I nod and smiled, half excited to get new clothes. There were a lot of stores here, I'm sure I was bound to find something.
He started to walk towards the store, so I follow, staying right behind him. I'm not ready to loose him just yet. When we walked inside, you could instantly feel the cool air conditioning, even though it wasn't necessarily hot out.
"I'm going to go find a bathing suit." I said softly. Brendon nodded and smiled.
:Alright, I won't be too far." And with that, I quickly to find the bathing suit section. The one reason I didn't want to stay with him was because I don't war female clothing. All of my jeans were mens, my boxers are mens, and my bathing suits are mens. My shirts are just unisex, never women's. It was too form fitting, and made me freak out.
I look around the store, looking above all the aisle and sections to try to find the correct part, looking through all of the signs hanging up. When I eventually find it, I quickly start to walk my stubby ass over. I had my hands in my pockets, gay walking over there fast as fuck. God I hate shopping. I look around, trying to find all of the swim trunks. I don't like any really detailed things, but some colors are nice.
I find the trunks, and scan over my options. I found a nice pair that was, somehow, unisex, and was a nice blue color. I look for my size, and instantly pull it off the hook. Now, for a shirt. Just a nice short sleeve shirt... Can't be that hard to find, right? Well fucking wrong. I can't find crap!
It took me a few minutes before I eventually found a shirt, and although it was a size too big, I grabbed it. That couldn't hurt, right? Plus, if there was ever a day where my dysphoria was bad, it would be perfect! I smile softly to myself, taking one final look around before I go and try to find at least one pair of shorts. No matter how many pairs of pants I got with my parents, one pair would always be my safety pair, so I don't really plan on getting too many right now.
I let out a little breath as I finally leave the dreadful bathing suit isle, and quickly walk around before finding some section that had shorts. Some were women's, and a few were men's, and they were all, thankfully, a nice soft fabric. I wasn't a fan of jean shorts. I grabbed a pair of these weird, black cargo shorts that I think, were my size? Then look for just one more. In a softer type of fabric, there was a light and dark blue pair. They were the same size as the other pair, so I took them and went on my journey to find Brendon.
I was never good at finding people in stores, so this was a little nerve-wracking. I looked down all the isles, starting at the ones that went back vertically. After those, I started to look down the ones that blocked other sections behind the first row, looking for someone wearing the same color shirt as him, and then the same general hair. When I looked for someone, I tend to look at other people with the same hair as the person I'm looking for. And honestly, it didn't take long before I found Brendon.
I turned down that isle, and just walked right up to him, not saying a word. As he, I'd assume, heard me, he looked up from the clothes he was looking at and smiled.
"You got everything?" I just smiled softly and nodded, not in the mood to talk much. "Awesome! I'm done too, you ready to go check out?" I just hummed softly nodded my head again, following the musician to the check out.
★
When we got back to the car, it was already a bit warmer out. I shifted my sweatshirt, hoping I wasn't going to regret wearing it later in the day. I heard the car turn on, and the music to abruptly start up again, but honestly, I was just zoned out, starting at a certain cloud in the sky.
I started to tap my foot to the song, pulling myself away from the cloud and looking around the car.
"Ready to go to pet-co?" I snapped my head over to Brendon, feeling myself start to smile. Just knowing that I was going to get my baby back, that made me oh so happy.
"Yeah!" I smile and wiggle my hands a little, something I now realized was one of my happy stims. I look out the window, starting to hum the song, Radio Ga-Ga. I mean, who doesn't love that song? It was one of my favorites. I heard Brendon as well, which just made me smile.
He eventually parked at the store, which was in the same plaza as well. The second the car turned off, I was unbuckling my seatbelt and opening the car door. I pushed myself out and almost slammed the door behind me, not meaning too though! I froze for a second, looking over to the other side, to see Brendon's reaction. He was just smiling, and quickly made his way over.
"This is were we usually get everything for Penny and Bogart, their reptile section is off to the left, near the small animals." We both looked both ways before crossing through the little cross walk, and I just nodded.
"Okay! I'll look at what they have... I don't wanna get a ridiculous cage or anything." I said softly, being too excited to care how my words felt.
"Oh that's fine, just get whatever you want him to have." We finally got inside, and I look around happily. I haven't been inside a pet store in forever!
"Do I have like- a limit or anything?" I look up at him, hell the guy wasn't that tall but I still had to look up at just about anyone I met.
"A limit?" He looked at little confused, but still walked with me to the reptiles.
"Mhm, how much am I allowed to get, money wise?" I hated spending money, for as long as I can remember my Dad had money issues, and him and his ex dug it into my brain that I had to watch out for anything, and everything I bought. I always looked at price tags, and got whatever was best for the cheapest price. Even in restaurants, I always stuck to the cheapest options, even if I didn't like them. I remember getting scolded for not getting something I didn't like, just because it was under 10 dollars.
"Just get whatever you want him to have, price doesn't matter." He smiled softly, I think he could tell I was nervous about it.
"Are you sure?" He mumbled, looking around the section, before back at him.
"Yeah, I'm sure. Try not to worry about it, just get whatever you want." He sounded so reassuring, it was hard not to trust him. With that, I just smiled, and went on a little rampage. First off, of course, was a tank. He was a ball python, and a adult at that, so he needed a big tank. This store, surprisingly, had a 30 gallon, so I got that. I didn't want a 40 gallon, and a 20 gallon was too small. So, 30 it was! Next, was bedding. I had always kept him on a mix of Coco fiber, which was basically just dirt, and this moist, wood-chip thing called forest floor. I found those bags, and picked one of each. I stuffed them into the tank, and grabbed a 40 gallon underside heater. Of course with that, he needed a thermostat, and a thermomotor as well. I found two decent side hides, as well as a water dish, a few plants, some vines, and two cork rounds. Oh, he was going to love this!
When I was done, I turned to Brendon, who was looking at the little snakes they had in display.
"I'm done! He's got everything he needs, plus a few more plants and vines. Usually ball pythons aren't arboreal, but the stupid thing likes to climb so..." I trailed off, realizing I started to go on a tangent. He turned around smiling, and nodded.
"As long as your happy with it, then I bet he will." I continued to look at Brendon for a moment, the realization hitting me one more time.
My life was going to turn around, and I was finally going to be happy... I'll finally be able to be my true self with them, won't I?
