Alex's parents had been divorced sense he was in kindergarten. He hadn't seen his dad much until he was in second grade, but his dad did try. One day his dad brought him to meet a nice lady, who ended up to be his dads girlfriend. His dad moved to Connecticut with his girlfriend Silene pretty quickly. Everything was nice at first, Alex stayed at his moms house for school and during the weekends, although his dad did take him with him to Connecticut on some Saturdays. It took him a little while, but he did get used to the drive. 2 and a half hours there and 2 and a half hours back was a lot for a 7 year old. Not too long after that, he had his own room there. Finally, he spent full weekends with his dad and his girlfriend, and it was nice. Life was good.
As Alex got older, things became more and more difficult for him. His dad started to get in fights with his mom even when they weren't together anymore. He and his mom got in fights. His dad and Silene constantly got in fights that ended up in the 45 year old women crying to the 11 year old about how awful his father was. She always told Alex things he shouldn't know, and said things to him, about him, that were never okay. Little Alex started to get more timid and nervous, and just wanted to go home.
Pretty soon, Alex's dad left Silene, but it wasn't soon enough. The pre-teen suffered from un-diagnosed anxiety, and had some incidents with his best friend that called for help from the nurse and Alex's parents. At that point, he was in 7th grade, and he felt like things couldn't get worse. Puberty stunk, his friends stunk, his emotional state stunk, his self identity crisis stunk, just everything stunk! However, it didn't take long for his dad to meet someone else, Amanda. And immediately, Alex loved her. She was the exact opposite of Silene, it seemed like she actually cared for him. Sadly, that was when things got even worse. Not too long into their relationship, Alex's dad had a heart attack and sadly passed away. Amanda blamed it all on the teen, and caused his fathers whole family to turn against him. Only a few months after that, Alex was was waiting for his mom to get home from work, when someone knocked on his door. When he went to see if there was a car in the driveway, he noticed a police officer. He hesitantly went to the door, and proceeded to get told that his mom was in a fatal car accident, and had sadly passed away on the scene.
So yeah, his life was absolutely horrible. They didn't allow either of his friend's parents to take him in, forcing him into a group home. He was only allowed to take two of his backpacks and his little suitcase, which was he was pretty alright with. After some years of stuffing clothes, electronics and things to do in only two bags, he was quite alright with that. He stuffed all his clothes in his suitcase, which oddly wasn't a lot. He fit all of his electronics, his books and his drawing supplies in a medium sized old school backpack he had gotten, and then his funko pops, pictures, CDs and other things in a big backpack he had gotten, along with his camera. Alex had gotten more clothes while he was at the group home, needing it as he grew just slightly and as his body changed.
So after his anxiety attack, it wasn't too difficult to try to stuff his things, knew and old, into his bags. Of course this time, he had help. Lucas helped to gather all of Alex's things, talking to him about the move and Brendon and Dallon and everything.
Alex sighed, folding his last shirt and stuffing it into the already stuffed suitcase. Lucas looked over, slowly sitting on his bed.
"You'll keep texting me, right?" Lucas asked timidly, his hands in his lap. Alex looked over, his eyes widening slightly.
"Of course! Your one of my best friends man, I can't just stop texting you." He gave him a small smile. Lucas smiled slightly and nodded, then looked around the room and back at Alex.
"It's gonna be lonely without you..." He said softly. Alex sighed and nodded.
"You'll be alright, you'll figure it out." The teen slowly stood, grabbing his bags carefully, scrunching up his face as he realized the weight of each one.
"I'll miss you Lucas." he looked over, quickly putting down each bag and quickly made his way over to him, wrapping his arms around him in a hug. Lucas sniffled softly and hugged his friend back, closing his eyes tight. They stayed like that for a little while, until Alex slowly pulled away. He smiled at his friend.
"Thank you Lucas... For everything." The younger smiled and nodded.
"Bye Alex, I'll talk to you later." He smiled at him and waved bye to him. Alex grabbed his things, putting his bag over his shoulder and holding the other one in his hand, along with his suitcase. He looked at his friend and smiled, then walked out. He sighed softly, his smile falling. He couldn't believe he was getting adopted, especially by the two people he admired most in life. He shifted, feeling his heart rate start to speed up, feeling butterflies in his stomach. He gulped and walked down the hallway, holding onto his suitcase handle tighter. His suitcase was one he's had since he was little, it was a Lightening McQueen suitcase with some Minecraft stickers he stuck on it when he was in third or fourth grade. He slowly walked back to the room where the other three was in, looking at everyone. Miss Linda smiled at the teen and gently hugged him. He slowly hugged back and sighed, slowly pulling away.
"Bye Miss Linda." He smiled softly. The lady just smiled.
"Bye hon... I hope everything works out." Alex smiled a little bigger and nodded, unsure of what to do now. Part of him wanted to ask Brendon or Dallon what to do now, but the other part of him was too scared to even turn around. He however fought himself and slowly turned around, looking up at the two adults. He shifted his hold on his bags, it was becoming extremely uncomfortable. Although it was just two bags and a suitcase, Alex was only 5'1.
"I can carry one of your bags if you want?" Dallon asked softly, looking down at the small teen. Alex only nodded and handed him the heavier one, which ended up to be the smaller one.
"Thank you." He said softly, followed by a small sigh. Dallon nodded and replied with a simple, 'your welcome,' before looking over at Brendon. Brendon nodded at him and looked down at Alex.
"Ready?" The teen nodded slowly and watched the two adults start to walk, and quickly followed them out. He sighed softly when he walked outside and looked around, taking in the semi fresh air. They were in the city after all. Alex followed Dallon to the trunk and carefully put his suitcase in, followed by his other two bags. He walked up to the passenger side back seat and slowly got in. He watched the couple, watching them talk for a moment before getting in.
Dallon's driving... I feel like that's a good choice... He seems like the better driver, Alex thought to himself, taking in everything around him. Dallon flashed him a small smile in the mirror, then turned the car on and pulled out of the driveway, starting to drive.
After only 15 minutes of driving, the car pulled up into a parking lot and stopped. Alex slowly pulled his earbuds out and looked around, stopping once he noticed the store they were parked next to.
"Go head inside, we'll be right there." Brendon said softly, a small smile on his lips. Alex only nodded and quickly unbuckled, then opened the door and scrambled out. He walked quickly around the car and to the door, opening it and walking in. Brendon watched the teen before looking at Dallon, a worried expression on his face.
"Wh-where doing this right, right...?" He asked timidly. Dallon smiled softly and moved his hands foreword to cup his cheeks. He leaned foreword and gently kiss his forehead before nodding.
"We haven't even known her for a day, but yes. I believe we are... I don' think we've done anything wrong so far." Brendon nodded and let out a shaky breath, then nodded slightly.
"A-alright... I-I'm just nervous, I don't want to mess up." He chuckled nervously. The other just smiled at him.
"I know you are... You haven't been able to stop thinking about this for a couple days now." He gently rubbed his thumbs over his cheeks and once again placed a gentle kiss on his forehead.
"Now lets go."
Alex stood inside the reptile shop, looking around excitedly. He was getting to see his baby again! The man who owned the place slowly opened a big tank and lifted up a grey hide before pulling out a dark brown and black snake. Alex walked over, just wanting to hold him again. Almost as if reading his mind, the owner handed Melvin over. The snake stuck his tongue out a couple times before wrapping himself around the teens arm. Brendon and Dallon walked in, walking over to the other two, and snake.
"I'll give you some time to settle in before I ship him out to you." Alex wasn't really paying attention, he was too caught up in watching his snake. Brendon nodded a little and talked to the owner for a while about what the snake would need and how the owner would ship him out to them, as they weren't going to bring a 880g snake onto a plane. Although he wasn't a big snake, weighing just over a pound, he was getting close to full size for a Ball Python.
After much talking, Alex slowly reached into the terrarium and let his snake, Melvin, slither back into the hide with the heat mat under it. They said there thankyous before walking back to the car.
"Thank you... A lot." Alex said softly, watching as the two adults walked infront of him. Both smiled softly, but Brendon was the one to speak up.
"Of course... He's your pet, were not letting you leave him behind." Alex smiled a bit bigger, sighing happily as they got to the car. At least now he had something to look forward to.
(Start video here if you would like to. I recommend listening to all of it! ) He slowly opened the back passenger side door and slid into the seat, shutting the door and buckling in. He shifted and pulled his phone out of his pocket, putting his earbuds in his ears and starting up the music.
Alex smiled softly and sat back in his chair, watching the other two. The car carefully pulled out of the parking lot and drove off quickly. Alex was exited. He was finally getting adopted. He got to see his snake again. He got to meet his two idols. He was going to fly across the country. His knew adoptive family was LGBTQ accepting. Of course he would still be scared when it would be time for them to know about him, but at least he knew they wouldn't be disappointed at him like his mom was. At least they knew they wouldn't give him a disgusted, sad look before lying straight to his face. He knew that they were good people. He knew that they were accepting. He knew that they were caring.
He had a good feeling about this.
He could be him.
