Chapter Three 🍸
Randomly dedicated to
Jeremy's P.O.V
"Oh come on Jay she was asking for it ok? Grace could be so stupid sometimes I swear," I said to my best friend as I rocked back another shot of whiskey.
Jay hadn't even touched his drink yet. Somehow telling him about my shuffle with Grace had placed him on edge.
"Look Jeremy all I'm saying is that you shouldn't hurt your wife like that. She's a person not a punching bag. You know how much she adores you," Jay said to me. He sounded mildly annoyed and I almost laughed at his concern for my wife.
"Please Jay. Grace is fine. She just needs a little roughing up to remind her whose in charge. Do you know she broke my phone?"
"From what you said it was because she was trying to talk to you. Plus it's just a phone Jeremy. Grace is the mother of your child. Show her some more respect," Jay stirred his drink shortly and then took a sip. The taste was strong and he pulled a face at me.
"I do respect her," I argued.
"Really? How do you respect her? By making her cry? By hitting her? By slandering her? If I didn't know you better I'd call you an abu -"
"Watch your tongue Jay. We both know it isn't a pretty sight when I get upset," I warned, " I told you that Grace is fine. She gets what she deserves. If she does good, I reward her. If not then she's punished - "
"She's not an animal Jeremy! She's a woman. She's a person. She's your wife! She's been there for you. Where do you get off beating on women?"
I swallowed the rest of my drink and eyed Jay with disgust. He was supposed to be my best friend. He was supposed to understand. He was supposed to be on my side.
"What do you want me to do?" I asked quietly.
Jay sighed and ran his hands over his face. He checked his watch and then stood up.
"It doesn't matter what I want you to do. You're a grown man. You know better. Your wife is like a precious jewel. You're supposed to care for your woman not destroy her. I must leave you now. Laura is waiting for me. You should head home too. Give Grace my love. See you around Jeremy."
Jay walked off and I gazed at him until I could see him no longer. He could be so soft sometimes. I tried to shake his words from my mind. I was not about to be soft like him.
