Chapter 20: The Life of Manny and Lola

The next day, Zelda and Usagi are in Manny and Lola's room, helping Manny do some cleaning to the room Charlie arranges for them. Thanks to Charlie, Manny and Lola also have new clothes to wear. Manny is wearing a white button up shirt, a burgundy red vest, and black tie, along with black slacks and black boots, but still keeps his cowboy hat on. Lola is dressed in a short sleeve button up shirt, a pink taffy vest with a black bowtie, and a red plaid skirt, and has her shoes too.

"Thanks for helping me clean up our room," Manny says.

"It's no trouble. I'm just that Charlie and Vaggie are letting you stay in the hotel despite what happened yesterday," Zelda says.

Manny blushes, "Um yeah. It wasn't the best way for me to make an introduction. Mainly because I just snuck into the hotel."

"That's okay, what matters is that you're with us now, and we'll help you and take care of your sister," Zelda says.

Lola giggles in response.

"Yeah. As long as Lola is okay, that's all that matters," Manny says. He then says, "And thanks for helping me and Lola get some new clothes.

"It's no trouble. I'm glad to help you and Lola. I can tell that Lola means a lot to you," Usagi says.

"You got that right," Manny says. He sighs and says, "After all, Lola is the only family I have."

"Lola mentioned about you both being orphans," Zelda says.

"That's right," Manny says.

"How old are you? You look like you're around our age?" Usagi asks.

"I'm actually nineteen. Lola is seven," Manny says.

"Yep. I'm seven years old," Lola says.

Zelda picks up Lola, "Are all little Imps this cute."

"Well, she is an Imp, but she's also part Succubus," Manny says.

"Really?" Zelda asks, curious.

"That's right. Our grandmother from our mother's side was a succubus and even though Lola and my mom were Imps because of our grandfather, they end up having pink skin," Manny says.

"That makes sense," Usagi says. But soon notice, "But you look kind of different from your sister."

"That's true. I got more traits from my dads. He's the hybrid of an Imp and a Snake Demon," Manny says.

"A snake demon?" Zelda questions.

"Yeah. Although, they're like your pet snake, Kai, but there are demons that look like snakes in Hell," Manny says. "My grandfather was a snake demon and my grandmother was an Imp on my father's side."

"Interesting," Zelda says.

Soon, they hear a knock on the door.

"Come in," Manny says.

The door opens and Charlie and Vaggie enter the room in a bin cart full of food and drinks, and some supplies.

"Hey everyone, we brought food and drinks. And Manny, we've brought some cleaning supplies to help with your room," Charlie says.

"Thanks Charlie," Manny says.

Lola shyly says, "Hi Charlie. Hi Vaggie."

"Hi Lola, are you settling okay?" Charlie asks, sweetly.

Lola nods her head in response.

"That's good to hear," Charlie says.

Then Vaggie asks, "So how's the room cleaning?"

"Going good, and Manny was telling us about himself and Lola," Zelda says.

"How nice. And I'm glad to see the clothes Usagi made fit you both nicely," Charlie says.

"I don't think nice is that accurate. Though I do like talking about them, but after that incident, I have trouble sharing it," Manny says.

"What incident?" Zelda asks.

"Well, it's kind of hard to explain, but I'm not sure what happened to my parents, but it's assumed that they're both dead," Manny says, sounding sad.

Lola also shows a sad expression on her face.

"I'm guessing this is a very difficult subject," Vaggie says.

Then Zelda says, "You don't have to tell us if you're not comfortable with it."

"It's okay. I know you want to be nice about it, but you do have the right to know," Manny says.

He then explains, "You see, my home was broken into. My parents were able to hide us in the basement. We couldn't see anything. All we hear are fighting sounds, gun firing, and screams. After that, everything went silent. Not a single sound. When I got myself and Lola out of the basement, my home was torn apart and was practically destroyed, and both our parents are gone. We haven't seen them since that incident. That happened four years ago."

"I'm so sorry, Manny," Usagi says, sadly.

"It's okay. It happened a long time ago," Manny says.

"Do you have any idea how or why it happened?" Zelda asks.

"Well, to be honest, we have no idea," Manny says.

"Are you sure? There must be something you've noticed," Vaggie says.

"Well, there isn't much to go on..." Manny says, thinking about it. He then remembers, "But I do remember something..."

"What is it?" Charlie asks.

"Well, it's not much, but I remember a strange coming to the house, a few weeks before they disappeared. I didn't get much of a look at him, but he doesn't seem to be a local in the Wrath Ring," Manny says.

"Wrath Ring?" Zelda asks.

Lola nods her head, "Yep. Our family used to live in the Wrath Ring before we started traveling."

"And you're saying that the stranger who came by the house wasn't from around there?" Vaggie asks.

"No. He seems kind of well dressed to be from around the Wrath Ring. I didn't get much of a look at him because my father got my mother to take my sister and I inside, but the stranger was an Imp, and had a few shark demons with him," Manny says.

"What else happened?" Charlie asks.

"Well, It kind of happens fast, but I hear yelling coming from the front door. The two seem like they're getting into an argument. The stranger threatened my father saying that he's going to regret crossing him, and left without anything else. I have a feeling he might have something to do with it, but I didn't have any proof," Manny says.

"So that's what happened," Zelda says.

"Yeah. After losing our parents, Lola and I decided to leave our childhood home and do what I can to get by to help support myself and my sister," Manny says.

"Really?" Charlie asks.

"Yeah. I had to get a few jobs as a farmhand, a waiter, an errand boy, and other kinds of low paying jobs just to make ends meet. Of course, I had to steal food and money in order to get by as well. The past four years weren't very easy," Manny says.

He then hugs Lola, "But I did what I had to do to give my sister food and clothes, and her other needs. Of course, it was hard for her to smile because she lost mom and dad at such a young age."

"I can imagine," Vaggie says.

"It must be very hard for you and your sister," Charlie says.

Manny says, "Yeah. Even though my sister was sad, she did her best to make herself and her smile with some dancing, some performances, and even singing."

"That's very sweet," Usagi says.

Lola blushes a bit, "Uh huh. I'm very good, and I really like performing."

"Don't be shy, Lola. You're really great at performing," Manny says, "In fact, every time we walk through a window display, you watch performances and cartoons, especially seeing Fizzarolli's performances."

"Fizzarolli...?" Zelda questions, but then remembers, "Oh, I think I am who you're referring to. I've seen him on television from time to time. He's pretty funny."

"I've seen him too. He's a really big celebrity here in Hell," Charlie says.

"He sure is. My sister really likes seeing his performances on television and he's very funny," Manny says.

Lola smiles and nods, "Yes. Manny even took me to a Clown Pageant a couple of years ago."

"A what?" Zelda questions and lets out a giggle.

"The yearly Clown Pageant that goes on in Hell, started my Mammom himself," Charlie says.

"He's the ruler of Greed right?" Zelda asks.

"That's him," Vaggie says.

Then Charlie asks, "But how did you manage to get in? I heard it's really expensive to get in."

Manny blushes a bit and says, "Well, I did pay for some of it, but I mainly snuck in."

"You snuck in?" Zelda questions.

"Yeah. I'm shocked that I managed to sneak myself and Lola in, watch the show, and got through it without getting caught," Manny says.

Then pat Lola's head, "I was also happy to help Lola meet Fizzarolli. Of course, it was difficult to get Mammon to let us pass unless we had a large amount of money."

Suddenly, they hear familiar laughter and turn to see Angel Dust, holding Fat Nuggets.

"Really?! You and your sister snuck inside a major event and you both actually got away with it! Wow!" Angel says, laughing and is sounding impressed.

Manny rolls his eyes, "Yeah yeah, but it was worth it to make my little sister happy. Especially happy to see the smile on my sister's face when she got to see the real Fizzarolli."

"That's really sweet of you," Zelda says.

"Yeah. You both had a rough life, but glad to hear that you both were able to manage," Vaggie says.

"Thanks guys," Manny says.

Usagi then turns to Lola and asks, "So Lola, how good of a performer are you?"

"Um, I'm good at them, I guess," Lola says, nervously.

Manny chuckles with a smile, "Don't be shy, Lola. How about you give them a demonstration?"

"I don't know," Lola says, sounding unsure.

"I don't mind seeing your performance," Zelda says.

"Yeah. I want to see what you can do for your show," Charlie says.

"I don't mind seeing it," Vaggie says.

"Yeah. Show us what you got," Angel says.

"Please, Lola," Usagi says.

Lola blushes with a smile and says, "Okay."

Everyone moves some of the furniture in the room a short distance and everyone sit on the bed to give Lola some more room. Soon, Lola begins to sing.

Lola:

When you see me I be looking drippy

Got it from my momma know you see it

I've been doing things that's gonna make me happy

You'll never stop me

I'm never stopping

Then Lola begins to dance.

Lola:

Diss me once, diss me twice

It don't matter, I'mma still be fly

You a hater, and I see why

It's giving lavish, it's giving fly

So it's okay, yeah it's okay

I'll be okay, I'll be okay

I just brush it off, anyway

I just shake it off, anyway

You said that you'd always be my friend

But that was a lie you played pretend

I will never fall for that again

That's because a hater never wins

Lola continues to dance around the room with the song as everyone watches.

Lola:

Diss me once, diss me twice

It don't matter, I'mma still be fly

You a hater, and I see why

It's giving lavish, it's giving fly

I know, I know that I'm lit

I know, I know, that my family lеgit

I know, I know

I know that I'm lit

I know, I know, that my family legit

So it's okay, yeah it's okay

I'll be okay, I'll bе okay

I just brush it off, anyway

I just shake it off, anyway

So it's okay, yeah it's okay

I'll be okay, I'll be okay

I just brush it off, anyway

I just shake it off, anyway

And soon stops with the final pose with a smile on her face after her dance routine.

Charlie, Zelsa, and Usagi practically gush over Lola, "AWWWWWWWW!"

"That is so adorable, Lola," Charlie says.

"You're really good!" Zelda says.

Vaggie face blushes a bit and smiles, "Yeah. You were really good."

"Damn, with a performance like that, you could be famous someday," Angel says, and gives her a thumbs up, "And that's coming from me."

"Angel, you're a porn star, remember," Vaggie says.

"A famous porn star," Angel says.

Then turns to Lola, "But seriously, keep practicing, you can be famous someday. There's me Angel Dust, Fizzarolli, and Verosika Mayday, and next up for the spotlight is little Lola. Stage name: Pinky Taffy."

"Pinky Taffy?" Lola says, confused.

"Yeah. You said Pinky is your nickname, and you're very sweet as taffy, plus, your skin color is like taffy. I think it's perfect," Angel says.

Manny smiles, "I think it's a good name."

"Thank you guys," Lola says, blushing with a smile.

"Still, you all have a lot of fun together, and it sure cheered me up," Charlie says.

Lola walks to Manny, "Do you think I can be famous someday?"

"Well, you will need practice and new material as you get older, and with that much and your know-how, I think you can," Manny says.

Zelda then asks, "So Manny, what was it like living in the Wrath ring? I've never been there before, but I'm curious."

"Well make sense. Angel and the others can't travel to the other rings, and you were basically stuck here with the rest of the sinners," Manny says.

Angel sighs, "Sad, but true. Still. What was your lifestyle like out there?"

"Well, I lived in a normal house, but in the Wrath Ring, it's rather a rural area. Mainly a western style and has a lot of hellish beasts and outlaws there," Manny answers.

Then Lola says, "And there are a lot of volcanoes too."

"Volcanos?" Zelda questions.

"Yeah. I get it, the Wrath Ring is basically like the Wild West, and it's hot because of the volcanos. There's also mines and other places with shafts and railroad tracks. There's also a lot of farmlands in Wrath so a lot of the food is supplied there," Manny says.

"In other words, the Wrath Ring is basically in charge of Hell's agriculture, livestock, and produce," Zelda says.

"That's one way to look at it," Manny says, "Despite the fire tornados, volcanos, outlaws, and hellish beasts, it's still home."

"Sounds like there are good things that happen in the Wrath Ring?" Usagi asks.

"That's right. There are some competitions, rodeos, and other events, especially the Harvest Moon Festival," Manny says.

"The Harvest Moon Festival?" Zelda questions.

"It's an annual event that celebrates the bountiful harvest," Manny answers.

"Sounds like some of the harvest festivals that happen back on Earth," Zelda says.

"It seems similar. I remember going to one when I was a kid," Angel says.

"Me too. They have hay rides and other rides, and lots of food, like vegetables and fruits," Usagi says.

"Sounds fun, but I bet Earth doesn't have any Pain Games there," Manny says.

"Pain Games?" Zelda questions.

"Yeah. It's a competition they held in the Harvest Moon Festival. It's for us Imps can see who is the roughest and toughest bastard in Wrath," Manny says.

"Sounds dangerous," Zelda says.

"Maybe, but it's awesome. We watched it every year," Manny says.

"Sounds like a Turf War if you ask me," Vaggie says.

"I guess," Lola says.

"Well, it's also pretty dangerous for anyone with no experience, and the tougher Imps there are, the harder the competition. Like, I remember this one year that there was this chick that was so tough that she ended up causing like fifteen funerals," Manny says.

"Yikes," Zelda says, sounding uneasy.

"Fuck, talk about intense," Angel says.

"That's really scary," Charlie says.

"Okay, maybe that one was pretty scary, but it's also cool," Manny says.

"Sounds like you're one tough cookie yourself," Zelda says.

"Sure am," Manny says, "I've never competed in the Pain Games before, but I'm pretty strong myself."

Lola giggles, "Yes. My big brother is strong."

"He sure is. Both physically and mentally," Charlie says.

"Yeah," Manny says.

"What about the ceremony?" Lola asks.

"Oh right, I've forgotten about that," Manny says.

"Ceremony?" Zelda asks.

"Yes," Lola nods, "The Ceremony after the Harvest Moon Festival and the Pain Games."

Then Manny explains, "Every year, the Ars Goetia, Prince Stolas, oversees the festival and uses the power of his book to open a portal to allow the citizens of Wrath to view the True Harvest Moon."

Zelda is surprised to hear it, "Stolas? You mean Octavia's father?"

"Wait, you know him?" Manny asks.

"Yes. I met him and Octavia a little while back. I've become friends with Octavia and her and I became good friends," Zelda says.

"Really?" Lola asks, surprised.

"Yeah, they both became good friends," Charlie says.

Vaggie giggles, "Zelda really hit it off with Octavia there."

Zelda blushes, "Wha-what does that mean?!"

"Well, you and Octavia are rather close for just becoming friends. In fact, from what I heard, during your last visit, even though you talk to Loona, you seem to mostly talk to Octavia," Vaggie says.

Zelda blushes anc cries out, "Shu-shut up!"

Angel laughs, "I can so see that. It's written all over your face."

Zelda blushes and hides her blushing face behind her hair.

Charlie giggles and says, "Alright, let's stop teasing Zelda. Although, it's clear that you really like Octavia, even though you both barely met."

"I guess," Zelda says, still embarrassed.

The group begins giggling with smiles on their faces and Zelda still covers her face with her blonde hair.

Manny chuckles, "Sorry Zelda, but you have to admit, it's kind of interesting to hear it."

"Geez, thanks alot," Zelda says, embarrassed.

"I think it's really sweet," Lola says.

"What's Octavia like?" Manny asks.

"Well, Octavia is pretty cool. Even though she's a princess, she acts like a normal girl. I like that. She doesn't really use the power that comes from being a Goetia, even during our shopping. She's also very knowledgeable," Zelda says with a smile.

"She seems very nice," Lola says.

Zelda then says, "Still, I really wish I could go explore the other rings to check out the places there."

"True, but I don't think I'm really ready for that. Plus, it's rather dangerous for a human to be roaming around Hell," Charlie says.

"She's right. Even with the disguises, there are some demons like Hellhounds, Succubi, and Incubi can smell and sense a human right away," Vaggie says.

"Not to mention Succubi and Incubi can sense the virginity you still have. They'll be all over you. They'll sense right through that disguise," Angel says.

Zelda groans, "Geeze, thanks for the warning."

"Maybe someday we can come up with something. I really like to show you around someday," Manny says.

"Me too," Lola says.

Then Lola asks, "Zelda, what are your parents like?"

"Well, my parents are really great," Zelda answers, "My mother is a great person who is willing to help others. Even though she works at the restaurant, she makes time to volunteer at the hospital where some of her friends work. As for my dad, he's also great. My dad also teaches me how to fight and such. I love both my parents. They both do what they can to raise me and teach me. They play with me, and even tell me stories."

"They sound very nice," Lola says.

"Yes. They are," Zelda says, "I really miss my parents so much," and begins to sadden.

Manny says, "I understand. Lola and I have been missing our parents as well. I really hope my parents are okay."

"I'm sure they are. But for now, we need to think how to uh, let them know about your powers, and for you to have better control over it," Vaggie says.

"You're right," Zelda says.

She then says, "For now, we can do what we can to help the hotel."

"Okay," Lola says.

And with that, the group take their leave from the room to continue with preparations for the next activity at the hotel and the other adventure everyone will have later on.
