This one's for my very good friend who loves good ole Husker!
LOVE YA SUNNY-D <333
| I Hate the Thought of Loving You |
---
No one could've prepared Husk for love. He said it himself, he had forgotten how to love. 'I lost the ability to love years ago.'
Husk thought nothing of it when a tall young fox demon walked into the bar and ordered a gin and tonic. "Coming right up." He said in his usual grumpy tone. The fox watched him in amusement as he mixed the fox their drink. "Why you so feisty kitty cat?" They asked teasingly. "Cat got your tongue?" They poked fun at the unimpressed feline. "Oh shut the fuck up." He shot back and continued working his shift. "Hey now, what's your name?" They asked curiously. "Husk, now let me work." Husk was getting annoyed from the constant questioning from the fox, he wanted to hear non of it. "Cute name kitty, my name's Y/N." Husk didn't need to or want to know this foxes name, and he certainly didn't want the compliment they had given to him. Yet he still felt a gentle warmth come to his face. 'Wait a damn minute, am I fucking blushing?'
The rest of Husk's shift the fox stayed nearby to watch and ask the occasional question, it wasn't as bad as it was in the beginning, and he thought that maybe Y/N had learned to slow down on inquiring about Husk and his life. By the end of Husk's shift he actually didn't mind the sly fox and their relentless compliments towards him. It was a rare chance to feel loved once again. Y/N clearly didn't just want to get into his pants, they wanted a friendship, maybe even a relationship. It was obvious that Y/N found Husk attractive, you don't call someone a cutie that you aren't interested in, right? The last time Husk was interested in someone he was lead on, and he just stopped trying to gain love and affection from people, he started gambling and drinking more, and he just felt like a shitty person in general. He couldn't fathom the thought of someone actually having a genuine interest in him. He wasn't anything special; he was an asshole who didn't care about anyone else but himself, right?
No matter how hard Husk tried he couldn't stop thinking about Y/N, he just met them that night, catching feelings was out of the question, right? There was no way in hell that Husk genuinely enjoyed the fox and their sly remarks, their blazing orange fur, the shady smirk they always had when Husk laughed at one of their stupid remarks. Wait a minute. Husk was laughing at things that Y/N had to say, he never laughed. As much as he hated the thought he knew that he had caught feelings for the fox he had only spent 3 hours with. He secretly hoped to see the mischievous visitor that had stolen his attention with no remorse. Husk buried his face into his pillow and sighed.
The morning came and Husk awoke with an exhausted grunt. Even his dreams were filled with the fox that had only known him for 3 hours, before then they were strangers. They had so much in common though. They both liked magic, drinking, hell even mozzarella. Before they had died they were both soldiers. Husk shared some war stories and Y/N did the same, they both died on the field, Husk in battle and Y/N from a land mine. They were both obviously sent for the same reasons, murder. They both had murdered many in war, and it wasn't easy to stop thinking about the poor people who were unable to return to their families, to see their children grow up. It was difficult being able to move past that, this too sparked a heavier drinking problem for Husk, and the same went for Y/N. It was almost impossible how much they had in common.
Husk sighed sadly as he walked to the kitchen to have breakfast. "Hey Husk! I- W-why do you look so sad?" Charlie's face softened at the sight of Husk so distraught. "Charlie you'll never believe me." He mumbled, his eyes drifting off elsewhere. "What is it?" She asked gently, not wanting to possibly injure the already hurting cat. "So you know when I said that I had forgotten how to love years ago? Well I think I've developed a small crush on someone." He mumbled the last part then his eyes shot open. "You better not fucking tell anyone!" He poked his claw towards Charlie's throat. Charlie looked relieved and excited. "So why are you so sad? Aren't you happy that you actually like someone?" She was dying to know. "Well, I don't know if I will ever see them again, I met them while I was bar tending." Husk shrugged and turned his head away, an agonizing pain filling his heart. Charlie nodded in understanding. "Tell you what, if you tell me their name I will convince them to stay here, or maybe Alastor will! Then you can see them everyday!" Charlie gave a hopeful smile as she spoke. Her plan was very stupid, but Husk was known to accept stupid things. "Their name is Y/N L/N, a blazing orange fox with a constant sly smirk on their pointed face." He spoke fondly of the fox that had swept him off his feet. Charlie's eyes widened at the name. "Husk! They already live here! I checked them in yesterday." Charlie was practically jumping for joy at this point, she probably felt like Cupid at that moment. Husk grew a soft smile when Charlie gasped. "Husk! You smiled!" She danced around screaming about how Husk smiled for the first time ever. That wasn't true, he smiled many times when he was talking with Y/N.
Y/N walked out of the elevator wearing some casual clothes when they bumped into someone. "Sorry! Oh hey Husk!" At first the fox was apologetic until they noticed that the demon they had bumped into was no other than Husk, the bartender that they had met last night. Husk looked up and smirked. "How about we go get coffee or something, you seem cool." He offered what was basically a date. How could Y/N resist? A date with a cute kitty sounded fantastic, and they were ecstatic to go. "I'm more of a tea person, but hell yes." A faint chuckle sounded from Husk. "It's a date then?" They questioned. Husk's face went red and he nodded looking at the ground. "Lookie here, I made the grumpy kitty flustered, don't worry cutie, I'll pay if you want." They offered to pay for the date, and Husk looked up. "I offered it in the first place, I think it's right that I pay for us." He smiled softly at the foxes offer. "I'll see you at 10 then, I'm in room 48." Y/N went back into the elevator and presumably went to go change into something more appropriate for their little date. It was 9:30 AM so they had plenty of time to get dressed up for a cute coffee date.
Y/N had decided to wear a black button up shirt with black pants and a checkered belt. While Husk didn't really need to change since he didn't wear clothes anyways. 30 minutes passed quickly and soon Y/N heard a knocking at their door. They opened it to find Husk standing there with an eager look in his eyes. "Wow... Y/N you look great!" Husk openly admitted he was checking the fox out, even if the outfit was simple it looked great on them. It made their butt look good at least. "You ready to heard out?" They asked; pulling Husk out of his thoughts. He nodded, he felt a little flustered just being around Y/N. He had the feeling that they were well aware of the power they held over him. They put their arm around his waist only to have Husk's face become bright red. "You doing good kitty?" They asked jokingly. "Shut up, you damn sly fox." He tried defending himself but it looked more like he was being tsundere rather than him keeping his man card in check. Y/N had offered to drive them to this quaint little coffee house that served some damn good teas as well.
They opened the passenger door; "Ladies first!" They bantered. Husk rolled his eyes and hopped into their car. Y/N climbed into the other side and to the coffee house they went. They made humble conversation while they drove to the best cafe in Hell. Y/N parked and they climbed out to behold the sight of the picturesque coffee shop. With it's vintage style it certainly was a sight to gaze upon. Y/N held the door open for Husk when they got to the door.
The two of them found a nice little corner to sit at and talk. They acted as if they had known each other for years. It's as if they were entertained simply by the others company. They could sit in complete silence and it still would've been just as pleasant as when they chatted. Y/N ordered some Oolong tea while Husk ordered black coffee. "Surprising we aren't drinking anything alcoholic currently." Y/N brought up. Husk shrugged; "Too early I guess?" Husk didn't feel like drinking, and neither did they. Their presence fueled their addictions, they were each others addictions. Y/N couldn't get enough of the cocky cat and his cocky comments, and Husk couldn't get enough of the sly remarks the fox made.
"Ya know, I absolutely hate the thought of loving you, but yet here I am. I can't get enough of your charming smirk and asymmetrical fluff on your face." Husk stared at them with awe. "Funny, I was going to say almost the same thing. I enjoy your company more than I thought I truly would. I thought you would be an asshole, and you are, but you're so much more than that. You're a lovable, strange, and mysterious kitty, and I'm not complaining." Y/N spoke from his heart when he said this. They witnessed Husk melt at their words. Y/N slung their arm around Husk's waist. They gave Husk a small but sweet peck on the cheek. Husk's face glowed a bright red at the affection. Then he turned around and gave Y/N a peck on the nose. Y/N smirked feeling triumphant in the love department.
When Husk and Y/N got back to the hotel Y/N leaned down and gifted Husk a loving and tender kiss. Husk relaxed into the kiss, his ears flattening as he relaxed fully. Y/N pulled away, gazing upon their loved one with a look of admiration and wonder in his eyes. "I'll see ya later cutie." They called as they walked off back to their room he guessed. Husk didn't want to leave Y/N, but he obliged.
"So! How did it go!" His ears pricked up at the sound of Charlie's voice. "I'd say it went pretty well." He answered calmly, but with a lovesick look in his eyes, and a dreamy tone to his voice. "I AM THE BEST MATCHMAKER IN HELL!" Charlie ran off feeling very proud of herself. Husk sighed and went up to Y/N's room. He knocked softly at the door. It opened with a click, and there he was face-to-face with his new lover. "Yes cutie?" Y/N asked when they saw the cat they loved so much at the door. "I was w-wondering if I could stay here for a while, I don't work today." Did Husk just stutter? He blushed faintly. Y/N smiled; "Of course you can, on the condition that I can pet you and scratch your ears." They had a sly grin forever stuck on their face. Husk sighed deeply. "Fine, on the condition that I can do the same with you." He grumbled. Y/N chuckled; "Okay, sounds good. Come on in!" They opened the door a little more so Husk could step in comfortably. Y/N's room smelled of maple and apple pie, it brought him back to his childhood, back when things were okay.
When Y/N reached over to run their fingers through Husk's fur he flinched. "Sorry, I'm just not used to it." They nodded, they had the same problem. Y/N hated when people touched their ears or tail. When Husk was finally used to Y/N running their hands through his fluffy pelt he started purring. "Enjoying the pets?" Y/N asked teasingly. Husk just continued purring at their touch. "Okay now, let me pet you." Husk smirked knowingly. Y/N sighed and allowed Husk to ruffle their fur. "Alright, now I understand, holy shit I did not know that petting felt so fucking relaxing and calming..." They eased into Husk's touch as he stared lovingly at the fox who loved when he caressed their incredibly soft fur. This was what he wanted, this was all he needed, and it's name was Y/N.
Good ole cheesy ending, I actually like this one! Hope y'all enjoyed reading!
