Chapter eleven

You sat down, not saying much except for just placing your bet of 10 dollars. "Hey hottie," one of the demons said to you. You glanced at him, barely reacting to his nickname for you. The dealer dealt out the hand. You got a 7♣ and a 3♥, the demon to your right got a 5♥ and a 4♥ and the demon to your left got a 2♥ and an ace♠. The dealer had a 7♠. The demon to your right tapped the table. The dealer dealt a card to him. A king♥. He then made a move you'd never make on a 19. He tapped the table again, getting a 9♠. Unlucky bastard. 28. He busted and the dealer took the chips. He then looked at you. You tapped the table and the dealer gave you a 6♠. You had 16 now. One of the unlucky numbers. You tapped the table again. The dealer flipped another card for you, showing a 4♣. You stopped there. You didn't want to go over. The dealer then looked at the flirty demon to your left. He tapped the table, getting a 7♦. He either had 20 or 10. He waved his hand over his cards. The dealer uncovered his card, revealing an 8♠. He had a 15. He grabbed another card, showing a 4♠. 19 was his score now. You were happy. You had a 20, as with the guy to your left, and you both won ten dollars.

The dealer shuffled the cards as you placed your bet of 15. The demon to your right had put in 10, and the flirtatious bastard placed 25 in while winking at you. The demon to your right got a jack and a 3, you got a queen and a ten, and the one to your left got a king and a two, while the dealer got an ace. "Insurance?" the dealer asked. You shook your head 'no', and the other two demons denied it. The dealer checked his face-down card. "Blackjack," he said, flipping it. A ten. Damn. The dealer took the chips and the cards, re-shuffling them.

You bet 15 again, while the demon to your right bet 15 and the one to your left put in thirty. "I'm doin' this for ya, sexy gal," he told you. You rolled your eyes. "Two things: one, I'm not interested, and two, you might wanna wait until you get a lucky streak to do that," you said. "No, I mean, if I win, I might have money to pay ya for a...y'know. A BJ? How much do ya charge?" he asked. "I don't have a price for that because I'm not a prostitute, but I'll give you fifteen to leave me alone," you told him. "Uh huh," he chuckled, moving his hand to squeeze your thigh. You quickly slapped it away. The bastard looked at the cards and you put your attention back to the table.

You had been dealt a blackjack. Holy shit. The dealer paid you your money, 22 dollars and fifty cents in chips. The rest of the game played out and when the dealer was shuffling the cards, you turned to the flirty bastard, who had busted. "So, what was that about winning and then paying me for a blow?" you asked sarcastically. He looked away. Before you placed your bet, you heard Charlie calling for you. "(Y/n)! Do you want to play poker? All of us are doing it!" she said. You nodded and collected your chips, walking to the poker table. "Five card draw," Husk announced. You sat down. "Ante's 10 bucks," Husk told you. You put in a ten dollar chip, along with everyone else. The dealer shuffled the cards and dealt five to everyone. You looked at your cards. 5♣, A♥, 2♠, 8♦, A♣.

The order of people around the table (clockwise)was: Husk, niffty, Charlie, Vaggie, Alastor, Domino, you, and Angel. The betting began. Husk put in 40 dollars. Niffty called, followed by literally everyone else. Then, everyone began to discard and get their other cards. You discarded your 2♠ and 8♦, and received a 10♠ and 10♦.

Betting began again. Husk put in 25 dollars. Niffty raised to 60, and then Charlie called, followed by everyone until it was your turn. You raised to 70, and everyone called but Angel who raised to 75. Then, everyone called again, until Niffty raised again to 85. Charlie folded, along with Vaggie and Domino. Alastor called, followed by you, Angel, and Husk.

"Call," Husk said, showing his cards. Everyone else showed their cards. Husk had two pairs: 6s and queens. Niffty had a fricken straight. Alastor had a pair of queens (almost a straight, if he had an 8 or a king). You had a pair of aces and a pair of tens, and Angel had three 7s. The pot went to Niffty. She giggled happily at the huge stack of chips in front of her.

"Another round!" she said happily. The dealer shuffled the cards and dealt five to everyone again. Everyone put in a 10 dollar chip for the ante. You looked at your cards to see a 10♠, 6♣, 4♠, K♠, and 8♠. And, the betting began. Husk started with 10 dollars. Niffty called, followed by Charlie and Vaggie. Alastor raised it to 20, and then Domino raised to 25. You called, followed by everyone else.

Everyone had discarded their cards and gotten new ones. You now had a 10♠, 10♣, 4♠, 8♠, K♠. Betting began again. Husk started with a 'check' (basically pass). Niffty checked as well. Charlie bet 10, and Vaggie folded. Alastor raised to 20 and then Domino folded. You called and Angel raised to 30. Husk folded along with Niffty. Charlie called and Alastor raised to 40. You looked at your pair of 10s. Worth 40 bucks? Not. You folded. Angel raised again to 50, and Charlie folded. It was down to Alastor and Angel. "You know, Al, if you win, I will find a way to suck your di-" Angel was cut off by Alastor. "I fold!" the Radio Demon said, throwing his cards on the table. You held in laughter. Angel showed his cards. All diamonds. He scooped the chips in. You didn't bother to try and do the math about how much it was (aka the writer doesn't really want to do the math)

"Last round before I think we should call it a night," Charlie said. You looked at your phone. 3 AM. Wow. Time fricken FLEW. Everyone put in their 10 dollar ante and the dealer shuffled and dealt the cards. You looked at your cards. 2♥, 10♥, J♥, 3♥, A♣. The betting began. Husk bet 20. Niffty called, followed by everyone else. The cards were then traded in for new ones. You discarded your ace for a four of hearts. You now had a flush.

The second round of betting began. Husk bet 10. Niffty folded, along with Charlie and Vaggie. Alastor raised to 25, and Domino called. You raised to forty. Angel folded. Husk raised to 60. You tried to not swallow nervously. Now, watch, Husk had a royal flush or somethin. Alastor raised to 70. Domino called and you raised to 80. Husk and Alastor called, but Domino raised to 90. You got risky. You raised to 125. Husk folded and Alastor called, and then Domino folded. You showed your cards. "Flush," you said. You saw disappointment in Alastor's eyes. "Two pair," he said. You scooped in the chips. Charlie stretched and yawned. "That was fun! I think we should do it again sometime," she said. "Yeahhh!" Niffty replied excitedly. It actually was pretty fun.

You got into the line to cash in your chips. You weren't sure how much you won, but you won probably 5 to 7 rounds of that 5-card draw. As you got up there, the demon at the desk widened her eyes in shock. "1365 dollars. Someone got lucky," she said. "Wait, how much?" you asked. "1,365. How much did you use for the buy-in?" she asked. "300," you answered. "Lucky you. I've seen some people come in with this much and leave with 100," she told you. "Wow," you said, holding back a yawn. She gave you an envelope of money, discreetly hidden after she showed you she didn't cheat you out of any. You waited for Domino to cash in their chips. After five minutes of pointless flirting, they joined you and the Hazbin staff.

You were walking out of the hotel after saying good night to everyone. You had your car keys in your hand as you approached the main door. Suddenly you heard a strange sound that reminded you of Alastor's teleportation. You looked behind you to see Alastor. "Hey," you greeted him. "Hello, my dear," he said happily. "Soo....whaddya need?" you asked. "I just wanted to tell you that you are fantastic at card games," he told you. "Mkay...thanks," you said with a smile. He seemed to be searching for words for a moment. "Let me treat you to coffee tomorrow," he said. Your mind whirled into its pit of questions. Is he asking me out? What do I say? Is he asking as a friend? What's happening!? You pushed the thoughts away. "You don't need to do that," you said with a little awkward laugh and a smile. "I insist," he told you. "Okay!" you answered, perhaps a bit too eagerly. "Is tomorrow a good day? Maybe around ten?" he asked. "Yep," you answered. "I know this wonderful little cafe not far from your apartment. They have everything one would need for a breakfast after a night of gambling!" he said, his newscaster voice almost echoing in the extensive entryway of the hotel. "That sounds great!" you said. Alastor's eyes sparkled. "Should I meet you there or walk with you?" he asked. Your mind went frantic for a moment. Would it be obvious that you liked him if you wanted him to walk with you? Or is this a date where you probably should walk with him? "Uhm....you could walk with me, if you have time...er...want to," you answered. Alastor's smile seemed to get bigger. "I'd love to, my dear," the tall demon told you. You smiled. "So what time should I be ready?" you asked. "Oh, probably around 9:45," Alastor responded. "Alright. I'll be ready. Have a good night!" you told him. "And you as well, darling!" Alastor replied. You waved to him as the door closed.

You walked to your car, keeping watch for any asshole who thought he could rob you. You shivered and zipped up your jacket. You were reminded that the winter of hell was coming soon. You would still get snow, but it always ranged in color from dark pink to red. It was also slightly acidic. It never ate away at buildings, but if one were to have the snow directly contacting them for too long, it would eat away at them. Gone were the days of catching snowflakes on your tongue or eating a snowball. The snow here was not healthy for that.

You unlocked and got in your car, starting it up to get the heat going. You stared up at the reddish-purple night sky. No stars were to be seen. You contemplated something. You had been in a past relationship with a relationship expert and, ironically, your relationship fell apart. He told you that you could call him if you needed any advice and you still had his number in your phone. You remembered that he was basically nocturnal when you last saw him three months ago. You took your phone out of your pocket and tapped his phone number, bringing it up to your ear. Ring. Ring. Ring.

"Hello," he answered. "Hey Jesse," you greeted. "(Y/n)? Is that you?" he asked. "Yep," you responded simply. "Is there something you need help with?" he asked. "You said I could call you whenever I needed relationship advice, right?" you asked in response. "Yeah," he answered. You cleared your throat before asking, "How do I get ready for a coffee date with someone I like when it might not even be a date at all?"
