three.
Unfortunately being moved to higher classes meant Noah was now limited to seeing Maddie during lunch and gym class. On the plus side however, it meant it was much easier to keep an eye on Peter.
Just within the first class period, Noah learned that Ned now knew that Peter was Spider-Man, the two of them were not as stealthy or secretive as they thought.
Noah fought the urge to roll her eyes, as the fifth Captain America video she had seen today, projected across the screen.
"Hi, I'm Captain America. Whether you're in the classroom or on the battlefield..."
"I wanna be you when I grow up," Noah whispered jokingly to MJ, "Reading during gym class is simply the peak of greatness."
"Today, my good friend your gym teacher, will be conducting the Captain America Fitness Challenge."
The video flicked off, "Thank you Captain, Pretty sure this guy's a war criminal now, but I gotta show these videos. It's required by the state. Let's do it."
"Partners?" Maddie turned to Noah, "Sure," the red haired girl shrugged.
Maddie held Noah's feet down first, while she did sit ups, "Damn girl, you're good."
"Oh..." Noah slowed down a bit not meaning to show off, "Thanks"
"So are you an athlete?" Maddie asked, Noah smacked her lips together, "Not really, I just exercise a lot."
"Cool," Maddie nodded, Noah continued to do sit ups, ignoring the conversation happening on the bleachers, she was just glad her mother hadn't been brought up yet.
"Peter knows Spider-Man." Ned blurted, and Noah froze. Seriously, she couldn't even get through gym class without Peter somehow getting into trouble.
"No I don't...I mean-" Peter stuttered, rushing to his feet, "They're friends." Ned continued, "Yeah, right." Flash jumped down, "Just like coach Wilson and Captain America are friends."
"I've met him...yeah, a couple times. But...it's um." He pointed, "Through the Stark Internship."
Noah sighed, rubbing her eye, "Yeah, well I'm not really supposed to talk about it." He directed the hushed whisper toward Ned.
"Well that's awesome. You know what? Maybe you should invite him to Liz's party. Right?" Flash asked, "Yeah, um I'm having people over tonight. You're more than welcome to come."
"You're having a party?" Peter stared at her, "Yeah it's gonna be dope. You should totally invite your personal friend Spider-Man." Flash said.
"I'm pretty sure that Spider-Man has better things to do than a high school party." Noah glared toward Peter, "It's okay, I know Peter's way too busy for parties anyway, so..." Liz spoke.
"Come on. He'll be there. Right Parker?" Flash asked condescendingly, the harsh ringing of the bell signaled the end of this class.
"What are you doing?" Peter turned to Ned, "Helping you out." Ned exclaimed, "Did you not hear her? Liz has a crush on you."
"No, Liz has a crush on a masked vigilante." Noah stated stepping between the two of them, "For one, Peter." she turned to him, "What the hell were you thinking telling, him?"
"He found out! I didn't tell him, it was a mistake!" Peter defended himself, "Yeah, yeah. And for two," she turned to Ned, "Are you crazy? Not everything is about girls and having a social life."
"Noah knows?" Ned asked leaning past her to look at Peter, "Yes, she does."
Based on the glare that Peter was receiving he revealed nothing about Noah or her past.
"You're not going to expand on that?" Ned asked, "No he's not." Noah stated, "Is she your girlfriend?"
"Absolutely not!" Noah answered a bit too quickly, Peter was clearly offended, "What? Don't look so offended, Parker. It's not personal."
There are very few people Noah would go as far to say that she liked them. Very, very few.
Peter was unfortunately for him, was not one of them. She tolerated Peter, she certainly didn't like him or his over optimism.
Noah studied her appearance in the body length mirror, she wasn't sure why she was still standing here, after all it was just a stupid party. She shouldn't care about her appearance, but here she was still standing in Maddie's bedroom.
She wished it was her own room, she wished Peter wasn't going to the stupid party, so that she could sneak right back out of Maddie's room, and the whole way back to...well she doesn't really know.
Noah looked around the room, gently shutting the door, in hopes of Maddie not entering for a bit. A couple of minutes couldn't really hurt anything.
She took a few deep breaths, clearing her mind, she focused her energy on getting to her pocket dimension.
Noah's perfect reality.
The illusion of a perfect family, in this dimension, there was no Red Room, or HYDRA. There was just Noah, and her parents.
"Ashe? Are you going out?" Natasha, or this version of her, asked from the doorway of Noah's bedroom. If it had been under Natasha's control, Ashe would've been her first name rather than Noah.
The red haired girl shook her head, blinking away a few tears, she missed her mom. Her real mom.
"What's wrong sweet girl?" Natasha's eyebrows pulled together crossing the room and gently wrapping an arm around her daughter, "I miss you."
"I'm right here," Natasha spoke, and Noah exhaled sharply, "No you're not, you're on the run. This isn't real." she murmured, tears pooling in her eyes.
There was a muffled knocking, that Noah could hear in the distance, so she gave fake Natasha one last hug, before slipping back into reality.
"Noah? Are you Alright?" Maddie called from the other side of the door, the red head wiped her eyes and opened the door, "Ready to go?" Noah asked.
"Yeah." Maddie nodded, "Are you sure you're okay?"
"I'm okay." Noah breathed, "I'm just fine."
