The Voltron show
At some point after Shiro was found and fully recovered Keith left the team; the former red paladin decided that he was better off joining the Blade of Marmora, unfortunately everyone was stuck trying to fill the gap their angsty friend left. (Y/n) was one of the candidates again but, just like the first time, none of the lions chose her to be their paladin. It was very strange for Keith to be gone and (Y/n) kind of missed him being around; he was interesting to talk to even though he often preferred to be alone. Aside from Keith being gone life continued as it had been for a little over a year, even Haxus had become much nicer than he'd been after (Y/n) first found him. Haxus was still sleeping in (Y/n's) room seeing as it was the safest place for him, that way no one would find out about him.
However, one day in particular life changed in an extremely strange way; after the paladins visited a space hospital Coran started coming up with outrageous shows showcasing Voltron in order to gain coalition members from across the universe. Since Keith was gone Coran made (Y/n) be Keith in every show, making the young woman feel grumpy and almost as angsty as the former red paladin each time she performed in front of any crowd. With the paladins being out more than usual it gave Haxus the opportunity to have the freedom to go wherever he wanted to in the castle almost whenever he wanted to. He felt a little lonely when (Y/n) was gone which surprised him, although he couldn't tell her that because he didn't want to seem weak or clingy. (Y/n), however, wouldn't mind if he was a little clingy with her from time to time; Haxus might have been a big scary galra but there was something about him that was kind of adorable.
"Ugh, you wouldn't believe the day I had." (Y/n) said after she entered her room and laid on the bed, closing her eyes and trying to relax despite her tense muscles.
"Another day of making a spectacle of yourself in public again?" Haxus inquired with an unimpressed tone; he put the datapad he had been reading something on down next to him on the bed, quirking his left eyebrow as he gazed down at (Y/n).
"Hey, it's not like I chose to be in those shows. Do you have any idea how silly I feel performing like that? And in front of a crowd, no less?" (Y/n) questioned firmly, feeling low-key insulted after what Haxus said; she absolutely was not proud about the ridiculous shows Coran had her and the paladins doing.
"My apologies." Haxus apologized, he felt bad for the young woman and was thankful he didn't have to participate in the ridiculous shows.
(Y/n) let out a big sigh, covering her eyes with her forearm as she continued to try relaxing for the first time that day. She was thankful that she didn't have to do elaborate moves like Shiro or Lance, knowing that if she did she probably would have thrown her back out or pulled a muscle. Haxus knew what he had to do and laid down on the bed, hesitating for a moment before he scooted over and wrapped his right arm around (Y/n) in a comforting way. (Y/n) was shocked by the sudden physical contact from the salty male but said nothing; she decided to just lay there and enjoy him cuddling with her. Haxus soon found himself purring as he cuddled with his roommate, secretly loving how tiny she was compared to him and how nice her hair smelled.
"After the day I had today I seriously hope there's something extra good for dinner. Flavored food goo is good and all but I'm hungry for some real food." (Y/n) said after a few moments, not bothering to open her eyes or remove her forearm from her face.
"I'm sure that the Yellow Paladin will make something good to eat." Haxus responded with as much positivity as he could, also hoping dinner would be made of real food instead of food goo.
"Yeah, he's pretty good at cooking. For now though all I want to do is cuddle with you." (Y/n) mumbled, smiling while not moving an inch from her comfortable position on the bed.
Haxus hummed in acknowledgement; even he could admit that Hunk was a good cook, and he disliked everyone in the castle except for (Y/n). However, he could also cook many different dishes, particularly traditional galran dishes; Haxus would've cooked more often if he had the chance. (Y/n) felt so relaxed that she could've fallen asleep right there and then, but she couldn't let herself take a nap since dinner was in less than an hour. With Haxus' soft purring and warm embrace she almost completely forgot about the stressful Voltron show she had been forced to perform in earlier. When (Y/n) eventually went to dinner she felt far more relaxed than earlier and she was in a better mood thanks to Haxus; she didn't know if it was his intention to cuddle with her or not but nevertheless she felt better.
__________
(Y/n) and the paladins performed in many shows across the universe as time passed; everyone was annoyed by Coran's personality change, especially after he gave everyone different personalities for the shows. Just like the paladins (Y/n) dreaded each show because it was humiliating to be referred to as 'lone wolf Keith', although she felt bad for Hunk and Pidge who had it worse due to their new stage names. Honestly, if Keith had still been around (Y/n) was positive that he would have flipped a lot of people off since he definitely wasn't the type to participate in public shows, even though said shows were meant to recruit people for the Voltron coalition. With the most recent show Coran thought it would be a good idea for him to make the lions 'talk'; (Y/n) thought it was exceptionally weird but she decided not to say anything about it. So, one afternoon she and the paladins were having a meeting in the lounge, all of them looking at a holomap Coran pulled up.
"Guys, the recruitment rallies are amazing! Look at all the green on this map!" Coran said with excitement as he stood in front of the map, a crazed expression etched on his face.
"We certainly had our doubts at first, but I have to admit Coran, your plan is actually working." Allura spoke hesitantly before she complimented Coran, admitting that the Voltron shows were doing a lot of good despite how humiliating they were.
"Yeah, even I can't believe how many people want to join the coalition." (Y/n) added, amazed by just how many people wanted to join in on the fight against the galra empire.
"Why thank you, Keith; I like to keep you in character. And it's only going to get better with a few improvements." Coran replied when he turned to look at (Y/n) for a moment, promptly turning his attention back to the map.
"More improvements?" Pidge questioned with a disappointed tone, not liking the news about more of Coran's so-called 'improvements' to the show.
"Please, no more farts." Hunk requested, still embarrassed regarding the embarrassing sound that was played over the speakers each time he performed somewhere.
"Here me out. First, it's time Voltron starts to talk! Everyone's dying to hear what the big guy sounds like. Next, we'll introduce new weapons and new outfits for each of you." Coran announced as he turned to face everyone; his right eye twitched due to how exhausted he was, as well as the brain worm who was attached to his brain.
"Coran, what are you talking about? We only have one more show. After the big intergalactic broadcast we're done." Shiro calmly reminded the red-haired man, trying to reason with him since he knew everyone was tired of performing.
"What are you talkin' about? We're just getting started here! We can't stop now!" Coran yelled with a crazy tone as he ran over to Shiro and got in his personal space, seething angrily.
"Coran, are you feeling okay?" Hunk asked the older man, concerned about his mental well-being.
"Yeah, you seem extra twitchy." Lance added, also concerned for Coran who definitely wasn't acting like his usual friendly self.
"You must realize that we need to get back to fighting Zarkon." Allura said as she too tried to reason with Coran; she didn't like seeing her royal advisor and friend act like a maniac.
"We are fighting Zarkon! Six nights a week and twice on the astral conflox!" Coran responded with a crazed yet desperate tone, turning to glare at her.
(Y/n) kind of zoned out of the conversation; she was seriously getting sick and tired of how crazy life had been. She enjoyed having the chance to hang out with the paladins more often, albeit in a different way than she would have liked, but nevertheless she got to spend time with them. Within the past month or so Haxus felt a little lonely because (Y/n) had been gone a lot more than she used to; he wouldn't admit it to her, though, and (Y/n) felt guilty for not being around as often. The young woman was startled when Coran started yelling again, first at Bi Boh Bi and then at her and the paladins; she was convinced that he was actually going mad. The things he said genuinely shook (Y/n) and the others to the core; none of them thought Coran was capable of acting like a complete maniac.
"So…" (Y/n) spoke awkwardly after Coran stormed out of the lounge, trying to break the silence but unsure of what else to say.
"Wait, you're the most popular character?" Lance asked Shiro with disbelief; he honestly thought he was the most popular because of how fabulous he was.
Everyone else in the room deadpanned after what Hunk said, even Shiro who didn't know he of all people would be the most popular character in the Voltron shows. (Y/n) didn't know what else to do so she stood up, bid everyone farewell and headed towards her room where Haxus would be waiting for her as usual. Haxus had the run of the place lately due to everyone being gone for a majority of the day, giving him the chance to do whatever he wanted to and get back in shape by using the training room. (Y/n) snuck some food out of the kitchen on the way to her room, not knowing if her roommate had the chance to eat anything or not. Once she made it back to her room she and Haxus could finally catch up about the things they'd been doing lately, most of which happened every time (Y/n) and the paladins were out; the young woman didn't know it yet, but something exciting was about to happen.
