The big question
Haxus had been courting (Y/n) for what seemed like forever and they'd even left mating bites on each other, but Haxus really wanted to take their relationship to the next level by having a marriage ceremony with her. It was obvious that he found his life mate and (Y/n) would never stop loving him, which was why he did a little research about common human weddings and what all they entailed. He liked the idea of having a wedding cake and flowers at their future wedding, although they wouldn't need wedding rings because they had already claimed each other; before the scar between the base of (Y/n's) neck and collarbone healed he placed a soaked cloth with a liquid that would make it permanent since the mark she left on him would remain there forever. However, there was one thing Haxus needed to get and that was an engagement ring, luckily there was a jeweler in the nearest town and he commissioned one to be made specifically for his significant other. After secretly commissioning for the ring to be made he began figuring out what he would say when he proposed to (Y/n) as soon as the ring was ready.
Haxus wanted the words to come from his heart because (Y/n) deserved the best; he wasn't exactly the best with words, but after some trial and error he figured out the perfect proposal. (Y/n) was thirty-two weeks into her pregnancy which meant they would have to wait until they had their wedding, plus they hadn't planned anything for it yet since she didn't know that he would soon ask to marry her. (Y/n) definitely noticed Haxus’ strange secretive behavior and how he always seemed to be in a particularly good mood, it made her very suspicious about what he could have been hiding from her. She tried doing a little snooping when he was busy doing something, alas she couldn't find any evidence about what his big secret could have been. (Y/n) eventually gave up trying to find out what Haxus had been up to because being heavily pregnant wasn't easy and she had to rest a lot, she decided to just enjoy his good mood.
One day in particular Haxus made sure (Y/n) had everything she needed in the living room because he had to go pick up her engagement ring, but he told her that he was going to run a few errands; it wasn't exactly a complete lie, he really did have to get a little food from the local market while he was in town. The engagement ring turned out better than he expected; with its gold-like band and tiny white gems partially surrounding a larger blue gem it was perfect. Haxus also stopped by a local pawn shop and bought an elegant dagger as his final courtship gift to (Y/n), it was only proper to get one for her even though she might not have to ever use it, the gesture of him presenting it to her was purely symbolic by that point. When he eventually returned home he presented the food to (Y/n) who was happy that he bought it, she just wasn't aware about the other two items he bought. It wasn't until the next day that Haxus decided to propose to (Y/n); they were relaxing just outside of their house, both of them sitting on an old log that he'd carved a seat in.
“It's really nice out here today, I still can't believe that we actually get to live here.” (Y/n) sighed with content while she gazed up at the trees, admiring how beautiful they looked with the sun shining through their leaves.
“Yes, it is. I knew you would enjoy it as soon as I saw the most recent images. Our kits will love it here as well.” Haxus responded with a soft tone, his voice barely audible when he spoke.
“You've seemed really happy lately, is it because you like seeing me this huge?” (Y/n) jested humorously, knowing exactly how much he loved seeing her swollen with their unborn children.
“That's one reason. However, there's something I would like to ask you; something important.” Haxus answered, his voice wavering ever so slightly; it was hard to speak with his heart pounding in his chest and his mind spinning, he was about to ask her the most important question anyone could ask their significant other and thinking about it made him feel dizzy.
(Y/n) didn't know what Haxus wanted to ask her but she nodded her head anyway, curious as to what was so important that he seemed anxious. She felt her heart almost stop when he stood up only to get down on one knee in front of her in a familiar position, she felt an overwhelming wave of emotions sweep through her when she realized what was going on. Before he got up off of the bench Haxus had to take a deep breath in order to remain calm, he wished that he wasn't so jittery about proposing because he already knew (Y/n) loved him. (Y/n) watched with teary eyes when he reached into one pocket only to pull out a small black velvet box, revealing a beautiful engagement ring. All of Haxus’ happy, secretive behavior finally made sense to her and the reality of it all came crashing down on her.
“When I first laid eyes on you I thought you were my enemy and that you were going to have me thrown out of the airlock; I'm grateful that you gave me a second chance to turn my life around so that I could make up for the horrible things I've done I'm my past, you alone have shown me that every sentient being is capable of change. I was far from perfect as you worked to earn my trust and now I'm far from the man I used to be, and it's all thanks to you. As we've grown closer as a mated couple I've come to realize that I want you to be by my side for the rest of my life and for all eternity, including in the afterlife when we eventually grow old and pass on, I can't bear to think of an eternity without you by my side. You're all that is beautiful and good in my life; I love everything about you, even when you're just as stubborn as I am. (Y/n), will you do me the honor of becoming my ‘wife’, as you humans put it?” Haxus spoke after he took another deep breath, his gaze full of love while he looked deeply into (Y/n's) eyes as he proposed to her; actually proposing to the woman he loved made him feel emotional enough to shed a few tears of happiness.
“Yes, I will.” (Y/n) blurted out whilst beaming an excited smile at Haxus; she'd begun crying halfway through his proposal because of how romantic and beautiful it was.
Haxus carefully took the ring out of its box and delicately put it on (Y/n's) ring finger when she offered her right/left hand to him, kissing the back of her hand affectionately. He was proud to have made her happy with something she was familiar with, he had to admit that it was romantic to give one's lover a ring when they were to be married. (Y/n) took her hand back a few seconds later so she could get a better look at the ring, she never imagined that she would ever get engaged with someone. The ring sparkled in the sunlight as she looked at it from different angles, she finally understood why her boyfriend had been so secretive and happy. (Y/n) was so busy looking at her ring that she didn't see Haxus put the little box back in his pocket only to exchange it for the dagger, it wasn't until he cleared his throat that she saw the small weapon as he held it with both of his hands.
“This is my final courtship gift to you, if you accept it then you accept me as your life mate for all eternity.” Haxus spoke firmly yet lovingly when their eyes met, offering her the dagger.
(Y/n) accepted the dagger without hesitation because she truly wanted to be with Haxus forever; she knew that it was a part of galra culture to give one's intended mate a dagger as a final courtship gift, so it didn't freak her out that he gifted her with a weapon. Haxus stood up and sat on the bench along with his fiancé, leaning down so he could gently yet passionately kiss her. There would be a lot of planning and of course they would have to send out a few wedding invitations, although they wanted a simple wedding since by the time they got married they would have three babies. (Y/n) wasn't even sure where she was even going to find a wedding gown so far away from her homeworld, she would have to see if she could order one at some point after having Haxus take her new measurements after she healed sometime after she gave birth. Before either of them could begin planning for their future wedding (Y/n) and Haxus had to finish preparing for their triplets to be born since (Y/n's) due date was coming up soon, there was no such thing as too much planning before giving birth.
