The arrival of the rival

Lately the paladins had been having trouble with someone named Lotor and from what (Y/n) could tell he was a real problem; as it turns out Zarkon and Haggar got busy at some point, so naturally she was flabbergasted when they told her that Lotor was Haggar and Zarkon's son. Not only was Lotor now an issue but Allura was having a slightly difficult time figuring out how to pilot the blue lion which meant it was difficult for the paladins to form Voltron again. When the paladins were trying to figure out who would fly the black, red and blue lions they made (Y/n) sit in each one, thankfully none of them accepted her as their paladin. Sure, it would have been cool to be a part of Voltron, although it was also very dangerous and (Y/n) didn't want to risk getting hurt or killed in battle now that she had a lover. There was something else, too; (Y/n) noticed that Shiro wasn't acting like his usual friendly self and it honestly worried her, she often told herself that he was probably just really stressed or something.

When she told Haxus about the recent issues with Lotor he looked extremely displeased, obviously he hated Lotor with a burning passion, she decided not to bring the situation with Lotor up again. After a week or so (Y/n) wasn't thinking about the whole Lotor situation much because of how focused she was on her relationship with Haxus. They might not have been a couple for very long but thus far their relationship was going pretty smoothly, they'd only had one minor argument about him nearly getting caught once, luckily they worked it out and were no longer mad at each other. Haxus knew his skills were getting weaker, so each time he made a quick trip to the bathroom he took the time to make sure no one was coming by listening for footsteps a few hallways away. One evening in particular (Y/n) and Haxus were cuddling and making out with each other on their bed; things were beginning to get spicy until both their stomachs started rumbling; (Y/n) hesitantly got off of her boyfriend so she could go eat dinner with the others and return with dinner for Haxus.

"If we lived alone we wouldn't have this problem." Haxus mumbled while he sat on the edge of their bed, a grumpy expression adorning his face since they couldn't continue what they started.

"I know, but I don't think either of us would get very far with how hungry we are. I'll be back with something tasty soon." (Y/n) responded with a sigh, leaning forward to kiss his right cheek before she turned around and left their room.

Haxus watched his girlfriend leave and it left him feeling a little lonelier than usual; he was capable of happiness without her being around, but he really wished that he could be a part of her daily life instead of being cooped up in their room most of the time. Someday when they moved into their own home together he was going to make sure that said house was in the wide open spaces so neither of them would be cooped up ever again. In the meantime, (Y/n) thought it was odd not to see anyone heading towards the dining room nor was Hunk making dinner in the kitchen, so she definitely knew something was going on. If the paladins were gone then someone would have left a note for her to discover on the refrigerator, they always did when they had to go somewhere unexpectedly, and if they left in a hurry then she would have heard Coran's voice over the loudspeakers. (Y/n) wondered if she should just heat something up so she and Haxus could eat together in their room, but her curiosity got the better of her and she wanted to know where everyone was at.

She exited the kitchen and started walking in the direction of the observation deck to see if they were there or not, hoping to find out exactly where everybody went. (Y/n) felt bad for taking so long; Haxus would undoubtedly be wondering where she was and she didn't want him to come looking for her if everyone was still around. After walking through a few hallways, taking the necessary twists and turns, she started hearing the voices of her friends and knew they were still in the castle. However, when she heard an unfamiliar man's voice she wondered who their guest was; in a way the voice sounded like Loki from the old Marvel movies she watched a few years prior, although as far as she was aware Loki wasn't actually a real person which meant their guest only sounded like him. Upon turning to the right she stopped in her tracks when she almost ran into someone, a tall light purple man with whitish-gray hair who thankfully stopped walking to avoid collision.

"You didn't tell me there was another person here." The man, Lotor, said when he looked at the paladins who were behind him; they were taking him to the dungeon during that particular moment, but he wasn't expecting to see another human living in the castle.

"That's none of your business!" Lance snapped angrily, still pissed that Lotor was in the castle.

"Lance, be polite." Shiro reprimanded the blue paladin, speaking with his firm, fatherly tone that everyone always listened to.

"Hi, I'm (Y/n)." (Y/n) politely introduced herself, unsure of what else to say because of how shocked she was from nearly running into such a handsome man.

"It's a pleasure to meet you; I am Prince Lotor, perhaps you've heard of me." Lotor introduced himself with a charming tone, getting down on one knee so he could hold her right hand and kiss the back of it; the gesture was a little awkward because of the handcuffs around his wrists, but he still managed to do it.

"You- Y-you're Lotor? As in the Prince Lotor?!" (Y/n) questioned in disbelief, pulling her hand back and staring at him with widened eyes when he stood up.

"Yes, that's me…" Lotor spoke with uncertainty; (Y/n's) reaction startled him, women were usually speechless when they met him, although she did seem different compared to all the women he'd met during his life.

(Y/n) didn't know what else to say or how to respond, so she just turned around and quickly walked back in the direction she came so that she could at least set the table while processing what just happened. Usually Keith and Lance were the reckless ones on the team, naturally she was beyond shocked that Lotor was allowed in the castle even though he was technically a prisoner and not a guest. Obviously someone flipped their lid, although she wasn't sure if it was Shiro or Allura which led her to feeling incredibly uncomfortable when she thought about the galtean prince just living in the castle. A thought crossed her mind during her walk to the kitchen; how would Haxus react if he were to find out about Lotor living in the castle? (Y/n) didn't think about it for too long since she had to get the table set, but she hoped he wouldn't be too horribly angry if he found out about a rival living in the same building.

__________

"(Y/n), please calm down-" Shiro said as calmly as he could, hoping to defuse the situation that occurred during dinner even though the angry young woman cut him off.

"Calm down? What were you guys thinking? He's the enemy, and you're just going to let him live in the castle?" (Y/n) questioned furiously while glaring at Shiro, wondering why he would agree to let someone like Lotor live inside of the castle.

"He's our key to ending this war once and for all. I'm not fond of the idea of him living here either, but it's what's best for right now." Allura responded, letting out a sigh of frustration before she looked at (Y/n).

(Y/n) looked down at her plate and accepted Allura's answer; she hated letting Lotor live in the castle just as much as (Y/n) did but she had a good point, Lotor would be able to help them end the war sooner. After Hunk made a quick dinner and everyone sat down to eat in the dining room (Y/n) tried to stay quiet, but then she asked whose idea it was to bring Lotor onto the ship which led to the conversation they were having now. Sure, Hunk and Pidge seemed indifferent to Lotor being around, although everyone else seemed to either like him being around or hate that he was around at all. (Y/n) decided to focus on eating for a while, her mind reeling with thoughts of what could go wrong and the benefits of allowing Lotor to help end the war against the galra empire even though he was technically the exiled heir of said empire. Honestly, everyone just wanted the war to end and by that point they were desperate enough to accept Lotor’s help.

"I know that it's not ideal, but once this is all done and over with we can all go home. I promise it'll be worth letting him help us." Shiro said after a while, breaking the silence and looking at (Y/n) who wore a worried expression on her face.

"Are you sure it's safe, though? I don't know why, but something about him rubs me the wrong way and I don't want anyone to be murdered in their sleep." (Y/n) responded, voicing her concern to the only other adult human in the room.

"I'm sure. I understand that you're worried, but he can't escape from the cell he's in. I promise that everything's going to be alright." Shiro reassured her; he wanted to put her fears to rest, it would just take time for her to come to terms with Lotor living in the castle for a while.

(Y/n) let out a silent sigh and looked at her food again, pushing it around with her spork while thinking about what Shiro told her. Accepting that an enemy was living in the castle with them was hard for her, but she had to allow them to end the war as quickly as possible so they could return to Earth and she could hopefully sneak away with Haxus. No one else spoke for the rest of dinner, no one knowing what to say since everyone had so much on their minds. (Y/n) didn't know what the future held for them, but she hoped that she and Haxus would be able to finish their courtship in peace and eventually get married; she wasn't sure if she could go on living if he wasn't apart of her life and she didn't want to think about not being with him forever. Speaking of Haxus, she would bring him a little extra dessert along with his dinner since he apparently had quite a sweet tooth.

__________

Haxus had become worried when (Y/n) didn't return by the time she usually did, but as soon as she walked into their room he could tell something was off and it made him feel a mixture of confusion and suspicion. He accepted the food and water from his girlfriend, although as soon as she sat next to him he caught the scent of what smelled like Lotor, he just decided not to bring it up right away. (Y/n) watched Haxus reach for the cup of water first and waited for a reaction aside from him thanking her for the meal with a distracted tone. She didn't do anything wrong and yet she felt a sense of guilt when she thought about earlier when Lotor kissed her hand; each time she thought about it she felt sick to her stomach and honestly she wished that it hadn't of happened. (Y/n) loved Haxus and it wasn't her fault that Lotor tried to make a move on her, she just hoped that he wouldn't be too angry.

"I can smell Lotor on you." Haxus spoke firmly when he looked at his intended mate after he put the cup back on the nightstand, pulling her out of her thoughts.

"I- The paladins brought him into the castle as their prisoner and he kissed the back of my right hand. He- he tried to make a m-move on me and it makes me feel sick every time I think about it. I just wish he wasn't here and I know that he's up to something." (Y/n) answered anxiously, her body trembling as she spoke; she honestly didn't know how to react to Lotor’s advantages towards her, although she was thankful to have a boyfriend who could protect her.

"They what?! Lotor is a deviant trickster; if he willingly gave himself up then he undoubtedly has something planned. I want you to stay as far away from him as you can." Haxus said with an angry tone after what she told him; he was beyond pissed that the paladins would let an enemy in the castle, but now said enemy was trying to make a move on his intended mate which made Lotor his rival.

(Y/n) didn't know what to say, although the reassurance that he would protect her made her feel at least safer from a potential threat. She felt low-key betrayed by the paladins for bringing Lotor aboard the ship in the first place, unfortunately she had to let them do what they thought was best in order to end the war against the galra empire once and for all. The young woman watched her lover reach for the plate and pick up one of the alien berries off of it with two of his fingers, popping the small piece of fruit into his mouth. She tried to get her mind off of Lotor, but when she thought about him being half galra she was worried that he might smell Haxus on her and tell the others her biggest secret. Haxus scrunched his nose up when he smelled (Y/n's) uncertainty; the scent kind of stunk, not quite as badly as fear did, and it made him want to comfort her as much as possible.

"You have nothing to fear while I'm here to protect you. I will never let him or anyone else harm you." Haxus cooed lovingly to his tiny human lover while he carefully picked her up and sat her on his lap, purring softly when he began scenting her.

(Y/n) tried to respond, but only a quiet moan came out when he lightly mouthed against the right side of her neck; he wasn't biting hard enough to leave love bites, although she could feel his sharp teeth graze against her sensitive flesh and her mind slowly went blank. She'd needed a distraction from life and Haxus was giving it to her, just as she hoped he would and thankfully his little distraction was working. Haxus was still extremely hungry, so he made sure (Y/n) was good and distracted before he stopped scenting her and let her slide off of his lap so he could finally eat dinner. While he ate (Y/n) came up with a little plan for the next day; they'd known each other for what felt like forever and there was definitely some sexual tension between them, so in order to build that sexual tension up even more she would tease him before breakfast. She tried her best not to feel turned on when she thought out her plan since he could smell her pheromones, although she could hardly wait to actually try it when the time was right.
