Compromise
Since (Y/n) and Haxus were going to have children together they were going to need to bring them up right, although they hadn't discussed how they were going to raise their children. (Y/n) wanted to use a few parenting techniques from her homeworld that she was fond of while Haxus planned on using a few effective galran parenting techniques. Haxus and (Y/n) wouldn't be sending their kids to school until they were old enough, although the couple hadn't even discussed what schooling method they were going to use. (Y/n) was twenty weeks into her pregnancy which meant she had to deal with a few odd things, mainly her developing food cravings and occasional mood swings. Haxus was fascinated with (Y/n's) baby bump and rightfully so, he took part in the creation of three new people and feeling her extended belly was one of his new favorite things in the universe.
It was in the middle of the afternoon when Haxus and (Y/n) found themselves sitting on the couch in their living room; they just had lunch less than an hour earlier and they wanted to rest together for a little while. Haxus placed his hands on (Y/n's) extended belly and smiled when he felt their little ones squirm inside of her, he knew they would be active and mischievous when they eventually grew to be children. He wouldn't mind them being mischievous as long as they didn't hurt themselves or get into serious trouble, kits were meant to have fun while they were still young. Baby and toddler proofing their home would have to be done and according to what (Y/n) had heard about half galran children they were more of a handful than fully human children, she was grateful to have Haxus’ help. Being in her second trimester wasn't so bad, she no longer had to deal with morning sickness and she began getting better sleep as well.
“How quickly do you think the triplets will get used to sleeping in the nursery?” (Y/n) asked her boyfriend after a while, turning her head a little so that she could look at him.
“I suppose it will depend on them, we'll need to ease them into it sometime between their first and second birthdays, I don't want them ending up with an anxiety disorder.” Haxus replied; he didn't have any personal experience with very young children but it was common knowledge about babies getting anxiety because their parents made them sleep elsewhere too soon.
“I don't want them to get anxiety either. Speaking of birthdays, I want to celebrate those too.” (Y/n) agreed before she brought up the subject of birthdays.
“It would be best if we celebrated their birthdays the galra way, I don't feel comfortable celebrating them the human way.” Haxus said; galra celebrated birthdays, but gifts were strictly for romantic couples.
“Why not? Everyone should get something special on their birthday.” (Y/n) questioned, feeling a little insulted that he didn't want their kids to have the human birthday experience.
“They will receive something on their birthday, we can bake a special birthday treat. It would feel odd giving our children gifts since neither of us are romantically interested in them.” Haxus explained as he assured her that their kids would get something special on their birthdays.
“I know that, but couldn't we at least give them a little something extra? At least until they're at least seven?” (Y/n) asked him in desperation in hopes of changing his mind.
“It feels wrong to me to give them gifts. I suppose we could, at least until they're six or seven. It still makes me feel uncomfortable, though.” Haxus sighed in defeat as he agreed that their kids would receive birthday gifts until they were of a certain young age.
“Okay, that's fair. I just want them to have both experiences.” (Y/n) thanked him, feeling a little better knowing that their kids would get birthday presents for at least a few years.
Haxus had to take a deep breath to calm himself, he really didn't agree with some human customs and giving gifts to anyone besides one's significant other really made him feel uncomfortable. He and (Y/n) didn't mind the silence for a while, they both understood that pauses in conversations weren't anything to feel uncomfortable about. (Y/n) understood that she and Haxus might have a few disagreements about some things in life and how to raise their kids, she just hoped that it wouldn't drive them apart because she didn't want to break up with him. Haxus, on the other hand, was set in his ways a little bit and was uncertain about using human parenting techniques since humans generally didn't make very good parents, it would be hard for him to compromise on some of the things he disliked. There was still one thing on both of their minds and that was the schooling method; their kids would have to eventually go to school when they were older, they would need to get their education somehow.
“I was looking up a few things about Yavin-four and there's a few different schools, I was thinking that we could see which one is the best.” (Y/n) spoke up after a while, thinking that she was easing the tension between them a little.
“You want to send our kits to a school? Hiring a governess would be better for them.” Haxus protested; he truly believed that hiring a governess would be better considering that it was traditional for even half galran children to be taught by one.
“A governess? I don't want our kids getting whipped with a crop.” (Y/n) responded with discomfort, remembering when she overheard Lotor talking about his own governess.
“Of course, it's the only proper way for children to receive an education.” Haxus debated matter-of-factly, he didn't mean to argue with his mate but he didn't see the upside to sending children to a physical school.
“A proper education, how? By whipping them for making mistakes?” (Y/n) stressed, hardly able to believe that he wanted to actually hire a governess.
“They only get disciplined when they misbehave, governesses don't make their disciplinary decisions based on emotion like humans do.” Haxus corrected her, feeling a little frustrated by her misunderstanding of how governesses handled things.
“Would you at least consider a regular school as an option?” (Y/n) inquired, pleading for him to at least think about it.
“We'll see what works best when our children are old enough.” Haxus concluded, deciding to have the schooling conversation at a later date.
(Y/n) accepted his answer, but there was something hiring a governess that made her feel a new level of discomfort and uncertainty; she'd heard about how cruel some governesses could be, although she wondered if Lotor's governess was hard on him because of Zarkon. She had to take a deep breath and remind herself that all couples disagreed on things from time to time, plus she and Haxus had been together a lot more which led to them getting on each other's nerves. Haxus excused himself a few minutes later so he could go clear his mind, it would give (Y/n) the chance to settle down and clear her own mind as well. Spending time alone felt pretty good for her and Haxus; obviously they didn't always want to be alone, although sometimes they occasionally needed their me-time so that they wouldn't get angry at each other over minor disagreements. (Y/n) took the opportunity to watch something on tv to get her mind off of things, the tension between her and Haxus would undoubtedly be gone by later that day.
