Chapter 8 Denial is the Key
Adrien's POV:
Adrien shook of the notion that his father is Hawkmoth. The idea is ridiculous and besides he was a villain once they fought not long ago who went by The Collector. No, he thought there must be some other logical explanation. He did not want to call his partner, his friend, and love his life a liar, but why did she insist Gabriel Agreste is Hawkmoth.
"Nah, that is not true, Plagg," Adrien scoffs.
He saw his kwami raise an eyebrow at him as he gave him some Camembert cheese.
Plagg's POV:
"What is not true, kid?" Plagg asks. He smiles with the knowledge that he knows something that few people do know.
He eats his cheese and awaits Adrien's answer.
Narrator's POV:
Whoa, Adrien is in denial about the truth. Then, again is not denial always the answer when something fishy is happening in someone's family?
The author feels sorry for him and wishes she could just blurt out the truth. However, she believes he is not ready to receive it. He did not believe Ladybug she argues within herself.
Why should Adrien believe anyone else? She shrugs her shoulders as she thinks it is out of my hands now. There is nothing more I can do here. Clearly the truth is to huge for Adrient to accept it anyway.
She sighs. She thinks how she does pity the blonde-haired boy whose common trate seems to be refusal to see the truth for what it is anyway.
Yes, he is denial all right.
Ladybug's POV:
Ladybug is back home now that the latest akuma attack is over and Chat already left. She figures by now he is at his place and already transformed. She thought there is no way I know who he is right?
"Hawkmoth is Gabriel Agreste no matter what Chat says or does," Ladybug remarks. She does not speak to anyone in particular. She is glad to know that at least Chat trust her.
She just wishes he would have to be so stubborn when it comes to the obvious facts in front of him.
First, there is the fact Gabriel is so busy, but people rarely ever see him. Then, there is fact when he is seen he is a sour or particularly disagreeable mood. Next, there is the strange symbol on all his designs that reminds her of the akumas Hawkmoth sends out. Last, there is the fact he did have a copy of the heroes book in his house.
Ladybug sighs again with the knowledge that she once thought Adrien was Hawkmoth which much to her relief turns out not to be true. Now, she is sure it is Gabriel she feels genuinely sorry for the boy since he is both her crush and a famous person. It can not be easy being Mr. Agreste son, she thought.
She arrives home, enters her room without being seen, and detransforms.
Marinette's POV:
"Tikki, why is that Chat can notice Hawkmoth is Gabriel Agreste?" Marinette asks.
She wonders if Tikki has any ideas what it could be that makes him so quick to say no.
Tikki's POV:
"Marinette, I think it is only normal under the circumstances. I think it is a big risk to expect Chat to accept the fact Gabriel is a villain. I mean it is rather sudden and all," Tikki blurts out.
"Besides, he is someone you look up too, so do not tell me the thought has not crossed your mind that perhaps, you were wrong about him?" Tikki responds with a question of her own.
Tikki thinks I know Marinette is right, but I can not tell her this. It is not like it helps any since she does not know that Chat is Adrien. Let alone when Chat has no idea that Marinette is Ladybug. Goodness, talk about some crazy mess. Yes, this is one big pile up.
Marinette's POV:
"Anyway, Tikki, Alya has the silliest notion that Adrien is Chat Noir. She says it is because of some filter on her phone. I think she is full of mud. Like there is no way, Adrien could possibly be Chat. He does not act a thing like him, then there is the fact Chat always has such unkept hair. Adrien's hair is so neat," Marinette tells her kwami.
She chuckles a bit when Tikki just glares at her like she is annoyed. She thinks what did I say wrong?
Natalie's POV:
Natalie is glad that Adrien appears to be in the dark when it comes to Hawkmoth. Good thing too because if he ever found out his father is the villain I have a hunch it would not be pleasant
She smiles as she thinks besides who knows maybe some day Gabriel might just have the jewelry he seeks and make his greatest wish.
She is not going to stand back and let him give up. No, now that he is a mission in mind it is best he keeps it.
Gabriel's POV:
Gabriel thinks Adrien will never know who is beind the greatest villain mask of all time. He is grateful Adrien knows nothing about kwami's. This way there is no way he could even accidentally come close to the truth or succeed at discovering it.
"Natalie, my assistant, here, go file these," Gabriel scoffs.
He watches as she does what he says and grins. He is glad to see someone obeys him without questioning him unlike some people.
Adrien's POV:
Adrien pulls out his journal and writes this entry:
Dear Journal,
The craziest thing happened today. Ladybug came up to me and said she is convinced Gabriel Agreste is Hawkmoth. I could not disagree with her more. Goodness, that is wicked thing of her to say about my father. It is impossible for him to be Hawkmoth.
Yes, there is no way. He was akumanatized by Hawkmoth once. So, I am sure this proves my point.
Plagg will not say if Ladybug is right or not.
It appears he does not want to take sides.
Regardless of anything else my father has done, I know him,and I am sure of thing if nothing else. That is that my father is not Hawkmoth.
Ladybug must have been confused when said otherwise.
Well, that is about all.
-Adrien Agreste
bye, bye little owlets!
