Chapter Three: Secret Tellers

Olivia was starting to like Hawaii more and
More each day. She found it to be her safe haven, it had been eight months since joining the team and she had already made some really good connections.

Danny was the overprotective dad she never knew she needed. Very busy and also very small, she imagines putting him in her pocket at times. Nonetheless he was good to her and loved her.

Kono was the coolest person she'd ever seen. She tells her that every time she sees her. The two women are the missing pieces, to one another's puzzles. If they weren't working, Kono was teaching Olivia how to surf, or hitting up different bars to either dance or play pool, and if they weren't partying they were working out.

Now Steve was different, he was funny and immature at times, but serious and bossy at others. He trusted Olivia, which was rare, he was protective but not as much as Danny, he believed that while Olivia would need his help, she could easily handle her own and he liked that about her. She was smart too. Knew way too many things, more than the average person male or female shouldn't know. He would always call her over to hangout and she would end up Crashing in one of his many bedrooms or his couch. Steve was like her McGee, always there when you needed and knew the right things to say or do at that time.

Then there was Chin, he made her feel welcomed the day she arrived on the island, he helped her find her house and get familiar with the area. Even helped her buy groceries. At first she didn't think he would like her but after the two bonded over motorcycles and their love for family, they knew they would be a big hit. She vowed to protect Chin at all cost. Even if the only family he had was Kono she still promised the man that she would do anything in her power to keep him safe.

Even if it meant standing next to him with a bomb attached around his neck. She would do it.

When Steve called her  this morning she wasn't expecting to hear what he was saying. She hadn't heard from Chin since yesterday. She was crying as she pulled up to HQ Wyatt told her to relax put on a brave face for Chin and after running through the barricades without even a kevlar vest Olivia was being scolded by all the men on the team, even the one with the bomb around his neck.

"Guys, what are you doing?"

" Don't move. Don't move."

"You need to be in suits." Chin mumbles looking mostly at Olivia .

"You're not wearing one, neither are we." Olivia explains examining the bomb around his neck

"At least put on a damn vest Liv" Danny sasses as she rolls her eyes.

"Chin, we're gonna get you out of this thing, okay?"

"He got the drop on me. Never should have happened."

"This isn't your fault, okay? Just don't move. This bomb has a mercury motion sensor-- if you move, it'll activate." Olivia sighs , putting her hands above her head and trying to control her breathing.

"Listen, just tell us what you saw." Steve says

"I didn't see anything. I got hit from behind. I blacked out. I woke up here with that hood over my head. There's something else you should know."

"What?"

" He said he would contact you with instructions. And if you didn't comply... I'd be dead." a phone starts ringing from Chin's pocket of his shirt.

Twenty four hours earlier

"You know, why don't you just bring some clothes and leave them there." Wyatt peered from outside of the bathroom brushing his teeth.

"I mean if you want me to do that then i'll do it, but I don't want to rush anything"

He walks up to   Olivia snaking arms around her waist "Livvy, will you do me the honors of sharing a few drawers with me"

"It would be my pleasure" she teases giggling as he plants kisses on her neck.

She grabs her shirt and put it on walking into the bathroom

"Wyatt Drew Jenkins! You– gave me– a hickey" she keeps hitting him as he laughs.

"OW, I'm sorry I'll work on hickey placement better next time," he says as Olivia looks at the time she finished getting dressed quickly before leaving, she was happy, and she could finally use her own motorcycle to drive to work instead of sitting in the backseat of Danny's car. She arrived at HQ at the same time as everyone else carrying her helmet in her hands.

"Chin, what do you got?" Steve asked as they all stood at the entrance of HQ.

" Couple of guys out at night surfing came across a floater." He shows them the image on his phone of a very pale dead guy.

"Wait a minute. Wait, wait, wait. That's Luther Magallanes."

" What, you know him?" Danny asked as Olivia nods

" I figured you would."

" Yeah, when I worked at NCIS, he was on our most wanted list. He's a major arms dealer. He was one of the go-to guys for al Qaeda in Iraq, but after the surge, he went dark. Interpol's been looking for him ever since."

" Well, they can scratch him off their list." Danny says

"M.E. said the cause of death was two gunshot wounds to the back of the cranium."

" Execution style."

" Yeah, but there were several anomalies."

"Anomalies?"

" Yeah. That's what Max called them. You know how he likes the big words. According to him, the victim was dead about two days before his body was discovered in the ocean. It's a classic body dump."

" Nothing anomalous about it."

"Max also found chlorine in his lungs, and heavy bruising around his neck."

" So did they dunk him in the pool before they popped him twice in the head?"

"Shooter might have tortured him for information first."

" Wait a minute. Just hang on a sec."

" What?"

" Luther Magallanes is high-profile. I mean, this guy's got serious backing, which means whoever eliminated him doesn't care about payback. All right, so whoever killed him either has a bigger operation going on, or he is just one fearless, fearless son of a bitch." Steve says as they stopped at the top of the stairs

"The fearless ones, huh? They're the ones with nothing to lose."It turns out that Luther owns a private villa near the area and after looking at surveillance footage from the villa we saw Luther walking with a man, a man known as Victor Hesse who killed Steve's dad.

Ikalani Resort Kapolei

" Lab Techs found some fresh prints. It's confirmed. Hesse was here. I'm sorry, Steve." Olivia mutters showing him the results.

"How is Victor Hesse even alive? I mean, I put two shots straight through the guy's chest."

" The guy's a cockroach. It's what they do-- they come back from the dead."

" Next time you step on him, don't take your foot off." She leers arms crossed over her chest.

"All right. If Hesse is still on the island, we can assume he's not getting off, right? He's on everybody's watch list. Plus we've got his only known associate, Sang Min, behind bars."

"That's good."

" Which brings us to Luther Magallanes. Now, I was thinking, since both he and Hesse were involved in illegal arms, either they were working on a deal together, or Hesse is eliminating his competition to reestablish himself back in the business." Steve mutters as Olivia nods

"What's that?"

" Uh, HPD found a cell phone in a tide pool off the cliffs. Could have dropped out of Luther's pocket when Hesse tossed him. Might give you some answers."

" I'll get on it."

Kahuku
North Shore

The Scooby Gang was speeding down the road as two guys stood there.

"You see those guys, right?" Danny asked as they were getting closer and closer to the guys.

" They'll move."

" No, they don't look like they're moving." Olivia pokes her head between the seats.

" They'll move." tires were screeching as the guys still didnt move.

They were going to hit them

" Hey!" Danny yelled as the two men finally jumped out of the way.

"Told you."

They pulled up to a small community and parked the car. A crowd of people were watching two chickens fight as we hopped out.

"This is a chicken fight? Are you kidding me?"

" Every place has got its black eye. I mean, Jersey's got tanning salons. We got this."

Danny whistles "Hey! Ho! Okay. Ho, ho, ho, ho, ho. Everybody. You, birdman, stop. Please. Okay? Now, although I do not agree with nor do I see the fun in watching my dinner brawl it out in a steel cage match, that is not what we're doing here. We're not here to arrest you. We're just looking for Trent Agustin. So please, Trent, step forward."

" Or nobody says anything, and everybody goes to jail."

"Okay, birdman, put the bird down. Come on." Olivia sassed about to cuff the man.

" Hey. Hey. That's not necessary. I'm Trent Agustin."

"All right, everybody. Put the birds back where the birds go, and clear this place out. You're done here today."

" You, come on. Come on, come on, come on, come on." Danny groans, shoving the man along.

"You think Hesse did this?" Trent asked, looking at the photo of Luther dead.

" Okay, look, we're not here to discuss the finer points of detective work with you. Just need you to answer our questions. That's all."

" We were involved in a few transactions with Hesse. He trusted us. He came to us when he was injured."

" When was he injured? Let me guess-- he had a couple holes in him?" Olivia asked as the man nodded.

" He was in bad shape. We referred him to a doctor who specializes in this kind of clientele."

"What's the doctor's name?" Steve asks

Five-0 Headquarters

" Dr. Frank Galey, general practice. Office in Kahala, home in St. Louis Heights. Divorced, lives alone."

" Criminal record?"

"Not even a speeding ticket." Olivia replies by showing the results on the screen.

Kono walks in " Hey, just got off the phone with Galey's office and one of his neighbors. Uh, no one's seen the good doctor for months."

" And no one filed a missing persons case?" Chin asked.

" Apparently not. Galey sent out an email to friends, family and colleagues about eight weeks ago that he was taking a much needed, well-earned trip around the world"

" Well, I'm sure he won't mind us looking around his house."

ST Louis Heights
Honolulu

" Danny, Chin, take the back. Kono, Liv you're on me. Dr. Galey, Five-O. Open up." we all ran towards the house piling out of either Kono's or Danny's car. They looked around the house as everyone yelled clear before checking the garage and discovering two very bloody Nine millimeter bullets in a surgical dish.

"You put two of those in Hesse and didn't kill him?"

" Next time, shoot him in the face." Olivia spat earning and approving nod from Danny.

Kono discovered Dr. Galey's dead body in a closet which was wrapped in clear wrap to preserve the smell.

Halawa Correctional Facility
Oahu

They were standing in a room waiting to talk to someone. A phone and a plexiglass in front of them. There was a really big Christmas tree next to them which was decorated nicely.

"This is depressing, okay? They got a nicer tree than I do."

"I think your tree is adorable." Olivia smiles leaning against the wall

" No, my tree is not adorable. It's small. It's depressing. It's pathetic, okay?"

" No, it's just like your apartment. It's perfect." Steve mumbles as Olivia hits him on the shoulder

"What?" he says as Olivia scolds him.

"Hesse or not be nice"

"You know what's perfect? Perfect is that I get Grace for six hours on Christmas Day. Okay? Six hours, just her and I alone in my apartment, okay? If I was back home, we'd be at my mother's house. I mean, forget about the food that she would cook, but I would have a big tree-- a huge, lovely tree-- and Grace would be surrounded by people that love her."

" Listen to me, all right? I know something about being raised by a single father. All Grace is going to remember is that she spent her Christmas with Dad. Okay? That's what's perfect. So just relax with the tree. Here's Sang Min" Steve sighs, hands shoved in his pockets. Olivia gives him an approving nod as a buzzer sounds indicating the door is opening.

"Back so soon?" the man asked

" Well, what can I say? I missed your smile." Danny teased as Sang Min smirked, eyes landing on the strawberry blonde .

"Oh-ho who is this Spicy Shrimp?Hey princess, you bring her here to try and butter me up. It might work. Let me guess. You need my help." he flirts as she just shakes her head at him with a smile.

"Don't you flirt with her, hey eyes over here."  Danny growled as Olivia rolled her eyes.

"We found out Victor Hesse is still alive." Steve says giving the phone back to Danny.

" You're not a very good shot, are you?"

"Listen to me. Victor Hesse has been living here off the grid for the last four months. All right? We know your business is keeping people under the radar, so we thought you could help us find him."

" You thought wrong."

" Just tell us where he is."

" Detective, I already helped you once, huh?"

" And it's in your best interest to help us again."

" How do you figure?" Sang min sasses which only pisses Steve off more.

He snatches the phone out of Danny's hand "Listen to me. I'm going to find Victor Hesse with or without you, and if I find him without you, I'm going to tell him that you're the one who led me to him six months ago. How do you think he's going to feel about that? More to the point, how long do you think you're going to last here when everybody finds out you're a rat?"

"Take your time." Danny says as Steve had handed him the phone back.

"Kishimoto."

"Kishimoto? What?"

" Who's Kishimoto?"

"He's a facilitator for the Japanese underground in Honolulu."

" He's a facilitator? What does that mean?"

" He's the kinda guy you want to see if your visa expires and you don't want to go home. He sets you up with things like fake papers, real estate, cars, whatever you need. We had our fair share in Ncis" Olivia explained earning a big smile from Sang min

"Okay, if this guy, Kishimoto, is so connected, how do we know that he hasn't already helped Hesse off the island?"

" Because that's not what he does. That's what I do, huh?"

"Just get us a meeting with Kishimoto, okay?"

" No way you'll get in there unless I'm there." he says, smirking at me in particular.

" Look at this guy. What are you doing, angling for another field trip?"

" Whatever you have to do. But you need me. Huh? How badly do you want to find Victor Hesse?"

"Whew! Check you out. You're like the Asian John Travolta. Got one more piece of jewelry for you, babe." Danny says attaching an ankle monitor to Sang Min. "Now you're perfect"

The group drove towards this big rich looking restaurant giving the keys to the valet and getting out.

"I've driven by this place 10,000 times. I never knew it was a private club." Danny says as they walk towards the table.

" Why would you? You can't afford it." Sang min sasses as Steve chuckles.

"Sang Min. I didn't hear about your early release. 'Cause I haven't been released. These gentlemen and this Spicy thang, wanted to meet you."

"Steve McGarrett, Danny Williams, Olivia Sanders, Five-O."

"Now why would you bring law enforcement into my club?"

" They're not here for you, Kishimoto. They're here about Victor Hesse. Okay? They're cool."

"I'll have my men escort you out."

"You can have your men escort me out in a minute. Just want to show you a couple photos. These are the only two people besides you who have helped Victor Hesse since he's been on the run."

" He did this?"

" What can I say? Victor Hesse doesn't like loose ends."

"Look, you could, uh... you could be the subject of the next photo that we go to show the next people we go to question, or you could just tell us right now where Victor Hesse is and make it easy on everybody."

" I set him up in a condo in Ala Moana on Frank Street. He's been living there for a few weeks."

" Okay. Where does he hang out?"

" There's a private hostess bar on Nuuanu." he says as we load up to head to the bar.

" Just hold your position. We're at the second location now."

"Easy. Next time, watch the hair, huh?" Sang min whined as Danny handcuffed him to the steering wheel.

"Do yourself a favor. You watch the hair, huh? Maybe you'll learn something." Danny says rubbing both hands through his hair as Sang Min and Olivia shake their heads and chuckle

"I thought we had a bond of trust."

" Just sit tight, pal. Enjoy the scenery."
We walked into the club and looked at all the women talking with the men. Danny made a comment about how strange he thought it was that none of these men were getting sex from these women but they were just paying for talking. They walked further into the building and came face to face with Victor Hesse.

The group ddid a full blown chase watching as Sang Min was Hesse's getaway driver and he even stole Danny's car. They tracked them in a taxi with Sang Min's ankle monitor. Steve was driving crazily and Olivia was sliding from side to side in the back seat while Danny demanded she buckle up into a seat belt.She refused, seeing as she wouldn't be able to get out quickly. Chin got to the doc before them

"At least he's still got the anklet on. Make your next right. They're way ahead of us. Come on. Come on, come on, come on. Seat belt." Danny was yelling at Steve. 

Present day

"Guys, what are you doing?"

" Don't move. Don't move."

"You need to be in suits." Chin mumbles looking mostly at Olivia

"Victor, Yeah, and I killed your brother; score's been settled. So why don't you tell me what you want? 'm gonna find you. Victor, I'm gonna find you, and this time, you're not gonna walk away, you understand?" Steve threatens into the phone. Olivia watched as they went into action.

"Livvy, you need to get behind the barricade" Chin ordered as Olivia simply shakes her head.

"You're here, I'm here."

"What if Steve cant get Victor's demands than what?"

"That's not going to happen Okay? Huh? Look at me" he eyes locked onto hers as he sighed.

"You are stuck with me until the day I die, which if we play our cards right won't be for a while." She joked earning a small smile from the man.

She watched as Danny and Steve were coming back over.

"Howzit, fellas? What's new? What's the word, boss?"

" The ransom money fell through." Danny says looking between Chin and Olivia

" Well, I'm not surprised. But I'd be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed." Chin replies with a slight chuckle.

" You just need to sit tight, okay? We're gonna get that thing off you, I promise." Olivia explains earning nods from everyone else

" I don't have much choice, brah."

Kono comes running up to Chin

" Chin! Chin!"

" Kono, be careful. Don't touch him, Kono." Olivia explained as she just looks into his eyes.

" Oh, my God. Are you okay? What are we doing to get this off of him?"

" Hesse is demanding $10 million, and the governor will not play ball."

" So we need $10 million?" She says looking at Chin as if they know something.

" Yes. I'm sorry, what's the look here? You know where to get $10 million?"

" No, but Chin Ho does."

"Kono, don't."

"it's the only way to save your life..."

"Oh... What did you do, you won, uh, you won the lottery and you didn't tell us about it?" Danny jokes as Olivia grabs Kono's hand in mine.

" She's talking about the asset forfeiture locker."

" At HPD? They got jewels and stolen cars. They don't got that kind of money there." Danny explains

" It's not that one, it's another one. Most cops don't know about it. It's where they keep the confiscated drugs and money while suspects await trial, but this one's only for the big scores." Chin explains as Olivia looks up at them

"And they got $10 million in there?" Danny quipps

" They got $28,567,000 in cash, to be exact. It's all from one big drug haul eight years ago. When the investigation went cold, all that money just sat there. Three years ago, $200,000 of it went missing, and everyone started looking at me."

"Why?Why'd they look at you?" Olivia asked

"Because it was my case. This is the one I couldn't drop"

"Someone framed him to end the investigation. First... they accused him of taking payoffs, then stealing from the locker."

" Okay. Where is it?" Olivia asked earning a stern look from

"Think about what you're asking right now. All right, can we just..."

" Where is it? Chin, please, this is your life." She pleads

" It's underneath HPD headquarters in District 1. But no matter what you guys are thinking about doing, it's not worth it. Hesse is gonna kill me whether he gets that $10 million or not. You know that's true."

" Okay, yes, yes... I'm sure that is his plan, but with this money, I can get a face-to-face with him, and this is the only shot we got. Chin, you got to tell me how to get into that locker." Steve says

"Everything you need to know is on a set of blueprints at my house." chin explains

"Where in your house?"

" My bedroom, underneath the nightstand. Move it, and there's a loose floorboard." he says a small glint of sadness in his eyes

" All right. Don't move him." Steve orders

"I'm coming with you " Olivia mutters as Steve, Danny and Olivia walk behind the barricade.

"Hey. You want to talk about what just happened or not?"

"That's for later. We got work to do."

"That's for later? Ho, ho, ho, all right? For me, I just want to know, are we really gonna break into a police safe and steal drug money?" Danny says as Olivia groans.

" I know what you're gonna say, all right? We're cops, we don't steal, there's got to be another way to do this."There's not another way to do this, Danny. Look around. Okay? And by the way, I'm not a cop, I'm a Marine first. Okay." She spat earning a nod from Steve 

" Would you relax? You're getting me wrong. Okay? Superwoman, bring it down. Just a notch, all right? Our boy's in trouble; we do what we got to do. I understand that. I'm just trying to measure the level of insanity we're dealing with, that's all."

"High, high."

"Extremely high"

" Very high. Clearly,

"Clearly." Danny says with a sigh.

" All right? Are we good now?

" Yes." " Yeah." Danny and Steve at the same time say, before answering the phone this time putting it on speaker.

"Have you chosen a spot to watch the fireworks from?"

" Listen, I can get the money, all right?"

" I'm sure your friend will be happy to hear about that."

" I need four hours."

" You've got three. I'll be in touch with further instructions then." Hess says hanging up as Danny Sighs.

Inside Five-0 Headquarters

" I got the blueprints," Steve says as Olivia walks over to the computer with everyone else, the small blue trash can from her office in her hands.

" Look, I know what you're thinking, but my cousin never took a dime of that money." Kono explains.

" These blueprints are a little suspect, no?"

"After Chin was framed, he lost his badge. He said he kept them to protect someone. I don't know who, but I believe him. And now that you know, so should you." Kono explains

"I believe him" I groan

" All right, listen. How are we gonna steal this money?"

" Borrow. Borrow"

" Okay, we're gonna borrow $10 million;"

They came up with a plan, we are gonna capture Hesse during the drop-off, then Steve is gonna return the money before anyone knows it's missing. After looking over the blueprints there were only two ways into the building one being an entrance through HPD the other being an entrance through a tunnel that was built by the army during world war II to get supplies across the island.

The group then decided to pose as maintenance workers on the street where the tunnel was. Steve and Danny went underground while Kono and Olivia stood watch. An older woman with a can came outside asking questions and they got her to go away just in time for Steve and Danny to reappear. They put everything back in the truck and left. Kono and Olivia decided that they would go check on Chin, before they made the drop.

The bed of Steve's truck

Steve was driving when he got the phone call from Hesse.

"Yeah?"

"Have you got my money?"

" I do. Why don't you come down to 'Iolani Palace? We'll do the exchange there."

" How about I turn your man into puzzle pieces?"

" Wait, wait!"

" There's a field across Farrington in Waipahu."

" There's a lot of fields in Waipahu."

"Oh, you'll see me. I'll make sure of it. Oh, and come alone. Or your man goes boom."

"Did you get that?" Steve asked hanging up

" Oh, yeah" Olivia replied, finishing the assembly of her rifle as she laid down in the bed of his truck. While he continued to drive.

" Liv We're here." Steve says over the comms as Olivia jumps out from the bed of his truck and hides in the tall grass laying down on her belly. She watches through the scope on her rifle as Steve gets out money in his hands. She watched as he and Hesse talked for a bit before he handed him the duffle bag with the money in it. Hess kneels down and opens it begging to count.

He throws the duffel bag into a fire that he made as Steve rubs his ear that being the single and Olivia shot Hesse in the shoulder. She watch as Steve tackles him and begins running down there. Then she watched the money burn right in front of their eyes. Steve and Olivia were both panting. Before she patted him on the back and collected Hesse. Driving Danny's car back to the palace.

Iolani Palace
Same Day

"What did the governor say?" Danny asked as they leaned back against his car.

" She's kind of pissed about Sang Min."

" Yeah, well, that makes two of us."

" I just told her that it's one of those glass-half-full kinds of moments. You know? I mean, yes, Sang Min is on the lam, but Victor Hesse is locked up, and he's not gonna see the outside of Halawa Correctional in this lifetime, so.."

"What about the money?" Olivia  sighed arms folded over her chest.

" I didn't tell her."

" Huh? What was that?" "Pardon?" Danny and Olivia said at the same time.

"I didn't tell her."

" Ah. Good. So, you-you do have ten million stashed away somewhere to pay that cash back, right?"

" Danny, that money's been on ice for over eight years. Okay, nobody's going to notice that it's missing."

" So, what if this cold case turns into a hot case again, and someone wants to go in there and count that cash? What do you think is going to happen to you? I'll tell you. I'll tell you. I know the answer. You go to jail." She mutters earning a nod from the other fellow blonde.

" I'm not gonna go to jail, okay? Okay, maybe I will go to jail."

" Yeah, maybe."

" Right now, Chin Ho is alive, okay? Why can't we just celebrate that win? We'll figure the rest out tomorrow." Steve says as Olivia rolls her eyes at him.

"You just better start buying some lottery tickets. That's all I'm saying." Danny sasses as she chuckles

" And you better start prepping that sleigh, Tubsy, okay? It's almost Christmas Eve. I'll drive." Steve says as Olivia sighs, getting into the back.

"Can I ask you a question? Why are you always driving my car?"

"I like to drive."

"No, no, no. Rainman likes to drive. You have control issues." Danny says as she laughs.

Danny wanted to have a get together at his tiny apartment. So Olivia decided to put on the  fanciest dress she could find. He also insisted she invite her boyfriend who was more than eager to go. As they walked through the door watching Steve Danny and Chin trying to fix a Santa suit to fit Danny because it was slightly too big, Olivia brought her needle and thread and began sewing one side while Steve was sewing the other. Danny was using a stapler for the hat. Wyatt just laughed and drank a beer.

"Ow!" Steve winces sucking on his finger.

" You learn to sew in the SEALs?"

" I learned to sew in the Boy Scouts."

" Why am I not surprised?" Danny says as Olivia chuckled.

" Why is it a big deal that I can sew? "

"Super Seals aren't supposed to know how Steve is. It's cute. "

"Oh yeah, what's your excuse?"

"My grandmother taught me when I was younger, you ass" she sassed, slapping Steve on the back of head.

"I see a limo. Guys, she's here." Kono says as they all begin cleaning up.
