Chapter Two: Not My First Rodeo

These past few weeks have been great. Steve was completely right when he said Danny was going to regret him giving me that gun. He most certainly did, telling Steve how reckless Olivia was. He said it was like throwing gasoline on an already lit fire. Olivia laughed at his analogy.

Eventually he started warming up to me, but of course it was taking some time. There was a setback when Danny pulled a muscle in his knee blaming me for the entire thing. Olivia couldn't help but laugh. After all she did save him from being shot but whatever. He was currently using a cane for a few weeks and she couldn't help but laugh every time she saw  him. Today was their day off, which was rare, and Olivia was happy.

Managing to get a morning run in. Cardio she did  earlier this morning with Wyatt, a guy she's  been dating who is stationed at the base here. They met through a mutual friend named Catherine, she had to admit she didn't  like it when friends hooked her up on dates but Wyatt was a keeper, immediately, asking her out for coffee. They  hit it off and have been seeing each other more.

Rule #3 always be in shape.

Gibbs always said "A sharp body is just as good as a sharp mind." He explained that everyone  had to be one step ahead of everyone else and if we weren't in the right shape to do that. It would be extremely hard. Olivia was currently taking a shower when her phone rang.

"Steve" is what the caller ID read as she sighed , pulling the phone to her ear as Wyatt planted wet kisses gingerly to her neck, her head turned away from the water that was coming out of the shower. She groaned hanging up the phone and explaining how she had to go. He chuckled, shaking his head and explaining how he knew this would happen and that he would catch up with her later.

Medical Examiner's Office

" There's something different about you two today. You, uh, you get a new haircut?" Danny quips.

"No." Olivia  smiled trying to not seem so giddy.

"New cargo pants?" He continues as Olivia just  smirks looking down at the ground they walk down the hall.

" What was that?"

" What?"

" I believe you just smiled! You-you almost appear to be happy." He beams as they stop in the middle of the hallway.

"You don't think I'm a happy person?"  Olivia replies as he shakes his head.

"You seem like a happy person. Him not so much" the blonde points to Steve

"You know-- you know, I'm sure you have your moments, you know, like when Guns & Ammo puts out their holiday gift guide, or a Rambo retrospective comes on TV. But when the governor calls us down to the ME's office on a Saturday, I ask you: what is it that you could be so happy about?" He sasses as Olivia  shakes her  head at him, hands crossed in front of her.

"Oh, you had Grace this weekend."

"Yeah. I just dropped her back off at Rachel's. So just to recap: I got a broken knee, I got a daughter I barely get to see, now I work on Saturdays, okay? So, life's grand, know what I mean?" The man complains listing off all the problems he has going on.

"I'm sorry"

"It's good."

"Gentlemen,  lady, thank you for coming."

"Governor."

"An 18-year-old girl's body was found off Waikiki this morning."

"That's HPD's jurisdiction."

"Not this time," she explains as the sound of a piano rings through the building. The trio were staring at each other.

" That's right. You haven't met Dr. Bergman yet.

"Max is a tactile thinker. Playing music is part of his process. Some people say he's a savant. I think he's a genius." The Governor leads the group  to Max who is playing the piano.

"Max? Trust me." Max continues to play the piano loudly as all stand in the doorway watching before standing up.

"Edematous Airways." Max mumbles walking off.

"Nice to meet you, too."

"The victim exhibited pulmonary edema, petechial hemorrhaging, and froth in the airways. Cause of death is definitely drowning."

"Does that mean we're not dealing with a homicide?" The governor gasped, looking away from the dead body in front of them.

"No. It doesn't mean we're not dealing with a homicide. Oh, sorry. That was a double negative. It means, it still could be a homicide, See these linear contusions on her wrists They're antemortem." Max pulls back the white sheet showing the girls wrist.

" Ligature marks. Meaning she was restrained."

"That's right. She has defensive wounds as well."

"So she put up a fight." Danny says as Max nods

"Yes, also hello. I'm Max Bergman."

" Hello, Max."

" Yeah, hi, Max."

"Uh, Governor, do we have an ID on the victim?"

"Her name is Amanda Reeves. Her father's Michael Reeves, the U.S. Ambassador to the Philippines, and a very old friend. Which is why I promised I'd put my three best people on it." Governor sighs, not making eye contact with them.

"Okay, uh... What are they doing in Hawaii?"

" They vacation here every year. Thanks, Al. Um...The, uh... girls went to a movie last night, but they never made it home."

" I'm sorry, you said girls? Uh, as in more than one?"

"Oh! Sorry. A-Amanda's sister, Robin, is still missing. The Coast Guard sent out divers this morning, but, uh... there's no sign of her."

"So Robin Reeves may still be alive." Steve looks at the governor with a big sigh escaping his lips.

"Always wanted Amanda and Robin to have a.... ...normal upbringing, but it hasn't been easy." The ambassador sighed, gripping his wife's other hand, the governor having her hand in the other.

"So they were stationed with you at the Embassy in Manila?" Steve rocks back and forth on his heels.

" Yeah. For the last two years. Before that, it was, uh, Budapest. Keeping the family together has always been... important to us."

"Yeah. Of course, growing up in foreign countries with a security detail shadowing your every move is not exactly an ideal childhood." The ambassador's wife swallows thickly. A small tear slipping down her cheek.

"Did they, by chance, have a detail with them when they went out last night?" Danny asked as the wife nodded.

" Well, in the Philippines it's one thing, but we've been coming to Hawaii since the girls were little. I guess we just didn't think it was necessary."

" They were just going to the movies." The wife begins to sob as The ambassador grabs her hand bringing to his lips for a gentle kiss.

"Don't blame yourself. We're going to find Robin. We are. We are. I promise." The governor squeezed her hand tightly. Steve motioned toward Chin and Olivia to talk to the guards.

"That's quite a bit of firepower." Chin comments pointing to the gun on the man's hip.

"It's a Kimber 1911. I prefer something with a little more kick."

"Not exactly a diplomatic security standard issue. Which would make you..."

"Russell Ellison, security consultant. I specialize in VIP and corporate protection. In light of what happened to Ambassador Reeves, he called me in to bolster his detail." Russell closes his suit jacket and rebuttons it.

"So when did you get into town?" Olivia leaned forward pressing her  body weight against the railing.

"This morning. And if you don't mind, I have a lot of work to do." He says leaving.

They stuck around to talk with the family for a bit longer before. Meeting back up at Headquarters with Kono and  discussing their  findings on the case. Kono  pulled them up on the big screen.
They were still waiting for a Ransom call and trying to figure out why they killed one sibling and not the other. Steve, Danny and Olivia all went back to see Max seeing as he had some new information for them.

"Just got back the toxicology report. The victim had benzodiazepine in her blood. You may be more familiar with its street name-- roofies."

"Yeah, it's a date rape drug." Olivia  murmured, earning a curt nod from Steve.

"Yeah, it's not that often a girl gets roofied at the movies.You could have told us this on the phone"

" I don't trust phones." Max sighs looking Steve in the eyes.

" Okay. Uh, Kono said that the daughters had a reputation for being, uh, party girls. Do you have a black light? Danny speaks up as Max rolls his eyes at him.

"Oh. It's called an ALS wand. And I don't like people touching my equipment." Max mumbles a Steve and Danny laugh.

" Can I just have the wand, please?"

" Fine."

Five-O Headquarters

They Scooby gang found a Z stamped on the dead girl's hand indicating she most definitely didn't go to the movies more like a club Olivia began typing on the computer pulling up all information on the screen, as Danny laid his cane on his shoulders.

" Zephyr Lounge. It's a nightclub"

"Just sent us a link to remotely access their closed-circuit feeds."

"That's really good. It's impressive. Did you learn that in SEAL school?" Danny quipped as Steve rolled his eyes.

"Mkay it's the Marines there's a difference and it's called using the internet. People have been doing it since the early '90s. You may have heard of it. " Olivia mocked earning a high five from Steve as she kept typing.

The two men began arguing over pacman and she  couldn't help but shake her head at them.

"I wouldn't know. I was still playing Ms. Pac-Man"

" Oh, yeah? Yeah. Ever make it to the double pretzel level?" Steve asked as Olivia  rolled her  eyes.

" Triple banana, bitch." the blonde sassed as Olivia chuckled at their childish behavior.

"You're a liar."

"No, I'm not."

They watched the security footage which showed our victim and her sister leaving the lounge very intoxicated with some guy. So they ended up
Going back to the club to stake it out. 

"Ladies first" Steve says, opening the rope and letting Olivia walk up to the bouncer first.

The bouncer smiled at her  before frowning when he saw Danny and Steve behind her . He asked if they were her guest and if she was on the list and Danny quipped telling him they were actually VIP before they flashed their badges at him. Steve proceeded to show the bouncer the picture of the guy they were looking for and he groaned explaining that he was inside. Steve led them to the bar.

"Hey. Three Longboards." She says  putting a twenty dollar bill on the counter. The bartender smiles before sliding the three beers towards her. She hands one to each of the men as Steve takes a sip, while Danny just stares at her like she has  two heads.

"What are you doing? Breaking for beers?" he asked

" This guy's just abducted two girls. His radar is going to be up. He sees us before we see him, he's going to bolt. So let's just have a couple of beers, get eyes on the place and relax." Steve explained as Olivia nods. Looking around, she  saw two guys eyeing her up and one very perky blond eyeing Steve .

"Looks like this place has got eyes on you." Danny sasses waving at the woman who was staring at Steve.

" Would you focus, please? "Just... just once. Just focus."

"Okay, wait a minute. Let me ask you a question." Danny quipps

"Go ahead."

"Two very attractive people are eye-humping you-- uh, respectably-- and-and what, nothing?"
Nothing? I mean, what, should I check for a pulse? You alive? Hello." the blonde sasses as Olivia swats his hand away from her neck.

The trip began  walking through the club As her phone  vibrates. She smiles  at the text from Wyatt sending a quick reply as a giddy giggle escapes her  lips. Which doesn't go unnoticed by the men she's  with.

" What is that?What is that smile?"

"What smile?"

" That stupid smile. What is it with you today? Huh? and you with the Teehee and googly eyes on your phone" Danny sasses

"You're imagining things."

" And I don't Teehee what even is that?" Olivia mutters  still sipping on her beer they  begin walking deeper into the club.

"Oh, I'm imagining things."

"That's right."

" Wait a minute. Wait a minute. Some detective I am. You got into some Barry White last night, didn't you? Huh? Am I right or am I right?"

" You're very perceptive. " Steve replies as Danny looks over at Olivia.

"My sex life is none of your business" Olivia sasses leaning against a fish tank.

"Since when?"

"Take a look at Casanova over there-- 6:00." Steve says as the partners shoulders touch. he stands with his back towards the fish. Olivia begins to feel a tingle of heat course through her  body at the small touch. He must've felt it too they both jumped back from each other looking at their shoulders a little before sipping their drinks as Danny continues to ramble

"That's our boy. Let me tell you what I'd like to do. If that was my daughter, I would bust every single one of his fingers one at a time." the blonde mutters as they  watch the guy drop a roofie on the girl he was talking to martini.

"OHH" everyone says at the same time they all
Put down their beers and walking over to the guy he was sitting with a very pretty brunette who was about to sip her drink.

"Excuse me. Excuse me. Whoa. Put the drink down. It's time for you to go to the bathroom." Danny sasses as the woman does what shes told Danny, taking a seat next to the guy now.

" Dude. Who do you think you are? Huh?"

" What's that? Who do I think I am? I think I might be a guy who just saw another guy put something in a lady's drink.'' Steve says moving his-shirt out of the way to show his badge.Olivia just smirks, squeezing onto the guy's arm.

"I don't know what you're talking about."

"You don't?"

"I didn't put anything in her drink."

" You didn't put anything... Then, drink it." Danny sasses holding up the drink for him.

" What? "

"Drink it."

"Come here. Drink... listen to me. Drink that drink, or I'm going to bust your teeth and pour it down your throat, okay?" She threatens pulling at his hair with her hand. He groans and winces as she roll her eyes at how weak he was.

"I would drink it." Steve smirks

"Let me help you. Come on. Down the hatch."The strawberry blonde begins pinching his cheeks together with her thumb and pointer finger as Steve poured the drink in his mouth.

"Big swallow. Big swallow. Good job. Okay, let's go loverboy." Steve mutters as Olivia grabs him by the back of his neck squeezing very hard.

Rendition

Jordan the guy in question was higher than a kite. Olivia sat him down in the metal chair handcuff behind his back. As he continued to sleep peacefully, light snores escaped his lips. She smiled as his slumber was interrupted by Steve blowing an air horn in his ear. Danny stuck his pinky in his ear and she just stands there arms folded over her chest.

"Robin Reeves. What'd you do with her?"

" What?"

"Great. Now he's deaf." Danny sasses open Jordan's file in his hands.

"Where is she? Where is Robin Reeves?"

"Your rap sheet here says. You got credit card fraud, corruption of a minor, statutory rape, and now you graduated to murder. Congratulations." Danny says as Olivia reads over his shoulder.

"Murder?"

" Yeah"

"What are you talking about?"

"Well, they found Amanda Reeves' body this morning."

Long story short Jordan explains that he was getting paid five grand to supply girls to some man by the name Kan. He explained how he didn't know his phone number or even his address. He went on to say that all he is told to do is place the girls in a van and drive them to Ala wai park the van the canal by 1 am. While this wasn't the best idea Kono and Olivia flipped  a coin to see who would be the lucky lady for the night it was of course tails and Olivia  was  of course the lucky lady, she put  on a short black shorts with a black tank to match and did her hair and makeup all nice

Chin  was making sly comments the entire time about how pretty she was and how she  should  dress up like this more often. Danny just nodded agreeing and shook  head at them. Before the scene was set in motion, she pretended to be passed out in the back of a van. Olivia  felt the van starting to move.

" Hang tight, little red. We'll be right behind you." Chin voice was heard in my ear over the ear piece. Before long some guy yanked her out.

"What happened to the music?" She slurs while trying to dance,  she squinted stumbling around as the man gripped her  shoulders tightly. It looked like they were outside at some dingy warehouse.

"Party's inside." some guy mutters, dragging her  by her arm. They walk by different rooms filled with women and teenage girls sitting on dirty mattresses on the floor.

"Excellent skin. Bone structure is very good.Strong, too. You'll be a good earner. " an old chinese woman with short black hair and a white Pomeranian began squeezing her  face.

"All right, I've heard enough. Hold tight, we're coming in." Chin says

Chin was so overprotective of  Olivia  at times treating her like his family. The bald man who was now accompanied with a skinner man with shaggy black hair took Olivia  in a room as gunshots came blaring through the room  she grabbed his gun from out of the back of his jeans and shoot him in the back of the leg aiming it at the bald man now.

"On the ground before I put you there. On the ground!" She stands there with a gun aimed at the guy as she peaks her head out the door. Steve approaches her  first scanning her body.

"You okay?" he asked as she nods. They arrest the group and begin questioning the older woman who seems to be the leader of the operation

"Robin Reeves-- where is she?"

" I never see that girl."

"Well, seeing as you're not even bothering to look, maybe you'll remember that she was with her sister Amanda, and maybe you'll want to know that she's dead now." chin sneers as the woman continues petting her dog.

"I want you read my Miranda right now. Preferably in Chinese. My English not so good." she smiles. Which annoys  the dog from her hands . she begins to plead, trying to take the dog back from me a her back down in her seat.

" Give us a minute." She asked looking between Steve and Chin

"Yeah, sure."

After five minutes an officer collect Miss Liao and brings her outside with the rest of the people they detained. She walked over to Chin and Steve. The dog is still in her hands.

"She ordered the kidnapping of the Reeves sisters, but it wasn't for the prostitution ring."

" Did She tell you where Robin is?"

" Doesn't know. According to her, the Reeves girls never even passed through here. A private buyer paid her 50,000 to abduct them and hand them over. Said the kidnapping was a freelance job." Olivia replies

" So it had nothing to do with s*x trade. Someone was targeting them specifically. You get a name on a buyer?"

" All she had was the phone number she used to communicate with the guy. Said she was paid by wire. " Olivia explained giving them the number.

"This will help."

"How'd you get her to talk?"

" Told her the dog would be put down once she went to lockup. Promised I'd find it a home. If she cooperated.– What? It's not like it's the dog's fault." Olivia said as Chin had an amused look on his face Steve just walked away. Olivia sniffs the dog's fur and shrugged seeing as he was well groomed.

FIVE-O Headquarters

They made it back to HQ and she felt the need to change back into her jeans and long sleeve peachy shirt.

"So I ran the phone number of our private buyer. Turns out, the calls were made from a disposable cell phone."

"Which is untraceable."

"That's right. But I was able to pull the call logs. And get this: since the Reeves sisters went missing, three calls were placed from that cell phone to the ambassador's private number." Chin says, pulling them up on the screen.

"So you think that he's somehow involved in his own daughter's disappearance?" Kono questions

"No. No, this is a kidnap and ransom." Steve explains

"Yeah, they're calling the ambassador to make demands. That's why he brought Ellison in after the girls went missing. Ellison, the security consultant." Danny intervenes.

" I will bet you he's not a security consultant."

"That guy is a K&R specialist. " Olivia mutters slapping  her hands together.

"What's K&R?" Kono asked

"Kidnap and ransom." Steve, Chin, Olivia and Danny all say it at the same time.

"It's a type of insurance.Look, if the policyholder gets abducted, the company comes in, they pay the ransom and they supervise the exchange with the kidnappers." Olivia explained as she nodded.

" And these guys have a tendency to obstruct police investigations." Danny murmurs.

" So, if Ellison is handling the drop, that explains why the ambassador lied to us." Steve says

Ambassador's Mansion

Steve, Danny and Olivia drove back to the ambassador's mansion. Only seeing his wife and the governor there.

"Is your husband home?"

"We uh, we need to have a word." Danny Says at Sarah looks at them with dull eyes.

"No, I... he had to step out for a meeting."

"With Mr. Ellison?"

"I don't know." She says with a drawn out sigh.

"What's going on?" The governor asked

" Mrs. Reeves, we know that the kidnappers have been in communication with your husband."

"He hired Russell Ellison to broker the deal, isn't that right?" Olivia speaks up as Sarah just stares at her.

" Sarah. Sarah, if you know something, you have to tell them." The governor yells sternly

"I'm so sorry I lied to you. Last call came in an hour ago, and the man at the end said that if we paid the money, we'd get Robin back."

"Okay, so your husband and Ellison have gone to pay the ransom?" Steve asked as Sarah just stares off

"Please, I just want my daughter back." she pleaded as the governor pulled her into a tight hug.

The ambassador's wife explained the plan that Ellison had to us and Steve ordered a trace on the ambassador's car to an abandoned lot next to a shore.

"Government plates. It's him." Danny says leaning against the hood of his car.

" Tires are still warm. They can't have gone too far." i explained feeling the tires with my hands.

" Ellison probably sent the ambassador in solo to make the swap, but he'll be nearby monitoring with a tac team to make sure it doesn't go bad. And you know what? I may have a way to figure out where he's running surveillance from."

"Yeah, I figured you would. You're gonna like this." Steve smirks,

"Tell her I said hi" Steve nods, truth be told Olivia knew about Catherine she just didn't know she liked Steve in that way, she's partly the reason Olivia was able to get this job she also introduced her to Wyatt they work together.

" I actually haven't been home yet. No, no, it's not what it sounds like. I caught a high-priority case. Listen, I'll make it up to you, all right? We'll finally get that dinner, and you'll get to taste the best steak on the island."

"Who are you talking to?" Danny quipps as Olivia just shakes her head at him, hands in her pockets.

"PACOM has a satellite dedicated to Honolulu harbor. Can you use it to run a scan on radio traffic? Uh, spread spectrum signal in the 400 MHz range. Type used by high-end surveillance gear. All Thanks, Cath." Steve mutters into the phone

" Oh, Catherine. I should've known. That's who you were getting right with last night."

" That's stunning detective work. Well done." Steve sasses

"You know, it's amazing. Now, she-she catches bad guys for you and she sleeps with you."
"Does she cook, too?"

" Yeah, she does."

" She's a great cook." Olivia beams as Danny stares her down with a confused look.

"She was the first person I met on the island who by the way makes the best meatloaf" She explains as he just nods.

"All right, that's our boy. Can you get a vector on the signal source?" Steve says into his phone.he nods "Thanks Again-" he hangs up the phone "Wyatt says hi" Steve says smiling a cheeky grin at Olivia . Before getting in the car

"Who's Wyatt?" Danny questions as the strawberry blonde rolls her eyes.

"None of your business"

The group drive down to the loading dock and Steve leads them to the shipping container taking out the kevlar vest from the trunk he hands one to each of his partners who put them on he then signals as they rush the container.

"Lower your weapons! Right now! Lower your gun!"

"You can't come in here. You're gonna get this girl killed."

" We're gonna get this girl killed? Hey! You obstructed our investigation! Now unless your men are ready to shoot a couple of cops, tell them to holster their weapons now."

"Right now, buddy." Steve says as everyone lowers their weapons.

"Where's the ambassador?" Olivia asked as Ellison kissed his teeth in her direction.

" He's in position for the drop."

" Pull him out now."

"With all due respect, my team specializes in these situations. We want to get Robin home to her family."

"Of course you do, because if you don't, your firm is on the hook for six million, right?" Olivia sasses holstering her weapon.

" The man who kidnapped the ambassador's daughters is a part of a Filipino terrorist group." Danny explains.

" Sir, they just arrived." one of Ellison's men says sitting in front of two computer monitors. "This is not about cash, gentlemen.They lured him in."

" Look at that, Robin is not with them."

" Patch me into the ambassador. All right, listen, they're here. I want you to be calm and do exactly as we already discussed."

The group  watched the entire exchange go down as Carlos pulled his gun on the Ambassador. Carlos wanted the ambassador to find out when a shipment of guns was headed to so he could steal them.

"All right, he finds out where that shipment is, he can send a team in to hijack it. We cannot let him get to those weapons."

"Tell the perimeter team to gear up." Ellison orders as Olivia yanks out his ear piece

" Wait a minute. What are you doing?" She asked as he stuck his ear piece back in.

"We're running out of options. We gotta move in."

" We don't need to do anything. You need to pull your men out so my partners and I can clean up your mess.- Move out now. I'm not gonna tell you again!" Steve orders sternly and Olivia had to admit it was quite hot.

"Your wife already lost one daughter. Are you prepared to tell her your other child died because you wouldn't do what was asked?" Carlos threatens getting close to the ambassador's face.

Steve picks up the tiny microphone that was attached to the computer and begins talking into. "Ambassador, this is Commander McGarrett. Stay calm, listen. Tell them that you're willing to cooperate, but first you need to see your daughter. We cannot move in until we know where she is, you understand?"

" Fingerprint and password, Ambassador, now!" Carlos yells growing impatient

" Please trust me. Do as I ask you. Tell Carlos you're willing to cooperate, but first you need to see Robin. Ambassador, do it, please."

" You're asking me to commit treason against my country. And I will do as you ask, but not until I know she's safe. I want to see Robin."

"She's on her way."

"They're bringing Robin in. We need to get a visual."

"You're kidding me."

"No, I'm not kidding. Come here. Look, this one controls the camera feed, the joystick is for pans and zoom, okay? It's just like Ms. Pac-Man. It's very easy." Steve explains to Danny as Chin and Kono walk in, all of them gearing up with more ammo.

"They're holding the ambassador on dry dock number seven."

" And the daughter?" Chin asked fixing his gun

" She's not on-site, but Bagoyo has just agreed to provide proof of life. We think he's holding her in a nearby location. As soon as we get eyes on Robin, we can move in." Steve says everyone ready to roll.

"Okay, we got a boat coming in." Danny says we all watch the onitor seeing a boat with three men and Robin pulling up.

"Got her."

" All right, that's us. We're going, Danny." Olivia says leaving with everyone else.

" Okay, I'll just be here in the penalty box."

Chin was armed with a shotgun while everyone else had pistols. They were all doing slick maneuvers around the crate. Danny was comms as Everyone split up in groups of two. Steve and Olivia in one group, Kono and Chin in the other. Steve and Olivia are crocheting down behind a crate as Danny explained that someone was coming up on our tail. Olivia noticed a crow bar sitting on top of the crate in front of me and grabbed it, hitting the man in his lower extremities then hitting him in the back of the head. Hearing a loud "oh!" coming from Danny we walked into the shipment room as Steve pointed to the guy making hand signals that he was gonna choke him out and to cover his six. He does what he was told as we come up behind Carlos the Ambassador, staring at us as Steve puts a finger to his lips telling him to be quiet. Carlos kept yelling at Rusell as Steve sneaked forward. Olivia hadn't noticed that there was a guy who saw Steve until Chin shot him, making Carlos run. Olivia ran after him and tackled him to the ground. He smiled realizing he was alone with her before lunging at her. She roundhouse kicked him and he got back up coming at her again.
