introduction and roles
The year is 1983. When choosing your role and creating your character, please keep in mind the fashion movements of the era and the political circumstances, especially if your character is muggleborn or halfblood.
Voldemort has just been defeated three years previously - well, we know that he wasn't truly killed, but for the time being he is in hiding. Regardless, the European wizarding world has moved into an era of peace that will last another 5 years. This means that we are in between canonical generations - the marauders are dead, hiding or locked up, and Harry's age group are still wee little tots.
I've done some research and I discovered that the only canon character in Hogwarts in 1983 is Bill Weasley, in his second year. There are no roles for second years in this fic so there won't be much interaction, but he will pop up occasionally. Please, don't try to date him. He's 12.
lgbt is not allowed, it's encouraged. while I'm trying to make this periodically accurate I'm completely ignoring the homophobic ish because this fic is not focused on the romantic struggles of magical teenagers
don't copy cannon characters, make your own
only taking four boys and four girls (allowances will be made for those who wish to be otherwise identified but I just don't want an imbalance of genders)
3/4 girls, 1/4 boys taken (1 girl, 1 boy reserved, only boy spots left open)
Roles:
1. The Purveyor of Mischief
This student is a seventh year and, as the title suggests, a prankster. Having entered Hogwarts in 1977, the last year of the Reign of the Marauders, this student (preferably a male Gryffindor as the Marauders would not be likely to speak to anyone else but a Gryffindor firstie) was trusted with most of the secrets of the infamous troubledoers - someone had to carry the torch! Best friends with the Quidditch Pro.

2. The Rebel
Anything above year 3, this student is a muggle-born and proud of it. They forgo their robes in favour of ripped jeans, band shirts and studded leather jackets. If they're female, their hair is big and bouncy - not a drop of Sleekeazy is going near that mane! Can be any house, any gender.

3. Feisty Firstie
Any gender, any house, but they're tiny. Probably the youngest of several siblings, this one knows how to fight for attention. Simultaneously shunning their clueless classmates and vying for validation from the older students, this student can potentially have a bit of a bad time. They don't let that stop them though. Cousin to the Glue.
{reserved}
4. The American
Yeah, we know they've been living in London since they were five, but do they remember what America was like? Do they prefer it to Britain? Have they ever been to Ilvermorny? Constantly bombarded with questions concerning their still-strong accent, this fourth year occasionally considers hexing the ears off of every single member of the student body just to be able to speak without getting a funny look. Probably not a Hufflepuff. Tutored by the Glue.

5. The Quidditch Pro
In their sixth year of schooling, this non-Gryffindor quidditch Captain has been playing quidditch since their pudgy little legs could wrap around a broomstick. Is either extremely cool and confident about matches or becomes a quivering mess the morning before. Preferably a girl, we don't see many female captains in the canon. Best friends with the Purveyor of Mischief - hates thinking about school without them.

6. The Daredevil Nature-lover
This student, year three or five, loves nature and will do anything to protect it. Probably a muggleborn, attends marches and protests during summer holidays. Favourite classes are Care of Magical Creatures and Herbology - wants to be a Magizoologist or a Herbologist. Was the person who pinned a petition to revise the werewolf restriction act in their second year; it's only got four signatures. Collaborates with the Purveyor of Mischief when bored.

7. The Prodigy
Also a first year, this student has the weight of generations of expectations upon their shoulders. Probably not very outgoing, spends free time studying to improve their standing in their parents' eyes. Shares most classes with the Feisty Firstie as their year is strangely small. Don't make them Slytherin, that's overdone.

8. The Glue
This student is everyone's friend. Need help with a Potions essay? Go ask the Glue. Relationship troubles? Glue's a good shoulder to cry on. Forgot the password to your common room? Don't fret, Glue will find someone to help you. Need to get out of detention? Glue's already got the Filibuster's ready. In their seventh year, any house, preferably male, this guy is what links all of the above people together. Tutors the American, related to the Feisty Firstie, friends with the Rebel and the Daredevil Nature-lover.
