secrets in the shadows

I left the descendant potion in the front pocket, so I tossed some back, which tasted disgusting. No one explained how this magic worked, so I watched him and others invisibly on the way to his locker. Kevin looked no different, but Logan was glowing when he came to his locker next to Kevin's. No one else was different, so it wasn't just the potion starting to work. Finally, there was something about Logan. I nearly screamed; Logan was the descendant. I knew him; I dated him, and he was hiding this secret all along. I walked around the corner to Mr. Fisher's room, defeated in this knowledge. That explained a lot of questions about our relationship. When I became visible, he noticed my change in demeanor.

"He wasn't the decedent."

"No, Kevin was not the descendant, but Logan is."

"Football player, lacrosse starter Logan"

"Yes, and my ex-boyfriend Logan"

"This is no time for emotions to cloud your judgment; he is not your ex. He is the descendent of a boy you must put on a path to save us."

"How am I supposed to do anything if I can't talk to them?"

"Good question. When you figure it out, put it to work because a witch is coming to town for the blue moon on the 30th."

"What is a blue moon, and why is one on the day before Halloween?"

"A blue moon is a second full moon in one month; it is rare and mystically significant. Witches can draw power on a night like this."

"And that is a big deal?"

"The witch that is coming has a specific power that the witch that killed you will need."

"What is this power, and how do I stop them from getting it?"

"Animals control; she can summon animals, and they will also do what she says. Summoning animals takes a toll on her, especially if they are magic creatures, as they will need any spell to free the dark sorcerer."

"So, I have three days to get those guys to save her and find the last witch."

"You can start with just a few or even two as long as you save Dove."

"The witch's name is Dove."

"Yes, and you must go to class before anyone hears you talking to me about magic." I left and went to class, ignoring his rude nature; I was now used to it. In first period Biology, I sat at a table by myself. Unfortunately, I forgot Ned was in this class. He sat next to me, eyeing everyone who was staring. Ned wasn't that bad; he was cute but nerdy, which is a good combination for some. His hair hung just long enough to cover his eyes, so you weren't sure what he was looking at.

"I know it was you," Ned whispered under his breath

"What are you talking about?" I said with my best convincing glare and a how dare you talk to me pose.

"You were watching me in the basement and then hid in a classroom."

"Did you find me there? I don't remember being there."

"No, you disappeared, and I want to know how."

"Tell me when you figure it out." I got up and sat with Lucia. She also asked annoying questions about where I'd been, but at least she wasn't close to what was happening. Ned tried to talk to me all day, but I avoided him. I had to turn invisible to lose him, which gave me an idea that most definitely would not work. I followed Kevin home as he walked; I told him about Logan's magic and that if he didn't get his help, a girl would die on the next full moon. All of this is true. I even used a fake accent and told him I was an angel sent to give him this mission. The next day, he didn't talk jokingly about it with Logan. Now I needed to go to the other. I followed Logan, hopping in his car. I recorded myself saying the message and got an app that changes the voice. Logan knew way more magic than Kevin or me and started shooting spells at me. His aim was horrible since I was invisible. He pulled over and opened the back seat. I had to throw myself over the seat into the trunk to avoid him grabbing me. He slammed that door shut and walked to the very back.

"Where are you?" he glared around. I could get around him if he moved out of the center

"Smoke," a gray smoke cloud oozed from his hand and flowed into the trunk. Unfortunately for him, that only gave me more cover. He turned around, running his fingers through his hair. Distracted, I almost didn't take this opportunity to run, but I slid past him and waited for him to leave before heading home.
