Chapter no 1: Sorrow

ALI DARWAZA KHOLIYE!!!

Mariam screams trying to open the door but is unable to.

Seeing Kasim,s dead body was a near to death painful experience for him. His heart is heavy as he felt a rush of emotions running down his veins.

He closes his eyes tight gulping the emotions back and sits there.

On the other side!!!

Ali ko iss tarah humne kabhi nahin dekha Dadi. Woh bahot toot gaye hain.

Mariam says, her voice breaks as a lone tear rolls up on her cheek.

Dadi turns, she cups Mariam's face in her palms and says in anxiety

Marjina humein Ali ko sambhalna ho ga woh hosh mein nahin hai. Kahin woh kuch....

Dadi stops. Mariam couldn't hold herself and rushes towards Ali,s room.

ALI!!! DARWAZA KHOLIYE

Mariam screams. She opens the door with a jerk.

The room is dark. The dark view of the room haunts her. She opens the window allowing the moonlight to come inside. She rushes to him and sits besides him.

Ali.

She calls him softly. Her voice is filled with ultimate tenderness.

He looks at her with numb eyes for a moment. Her heart breaks seeing him like this.

Ali.

She calls him out again. Her voice is still filled with the ultimate tenderness. She reaches out and holds his shoulder lightly. He blinks his eyes and then looks at the other side.

Baat kijiye humse Ali. Yun khamosh mat rahiye.

Mariam pleads. He looks at her.

She cups his face making him look into her eyes.

Chali jao.

Ali says pushing her hand away and stands up. Mariam too stands up.

Kaise chale jaye hum aapko yun akela chod ker.

Mariam says. Her heart breaks at the thought of him going away from her.

She makes him face her and cups his face.

Nahin Ali hum kahin nahin jayenge.

Mariam says firmly. She tilts his head slightly up and says while looking into her eyes.

Aapko khud ko ilzaam dena band karna ho ga Ali.

Mariam says. Her voice is soft again as she cups his chin.

Tumhe kuch nahin pata Marjina.

Ali says, his eyes are full of flames.

Jo chilis (40) choron ke gaar mein gaye woh Kasim bhaijaan thy aap nahin.

Mariam stops as he shouts.

Bas karo Marjina.

Jisne Lalach kiya woh Kasim bhaijaan thy aap nahin.

Mariam says firm.

Chup ho jao Marjina. Tum kuch nahin janti ho.

Ali raises his tone a little. He reaches out and holds her arm. Her eyes collided with his.

She cups his face and is able to see that he's on the edge of breaking down. She keeps a stone on her heart.

Maaf kar dijiye Ali per yeh bahot zaroori hai. Warna aapki jaan bhi ja sakti hai aur hum aapko kuch hone nahin de sakte.

Mariam thinks. She drags in a forced breath and asks in an angry tone

Kya nahin jante hum Ali?

Woh mere bhai thy Marjina. Unko bachana meri zimedari thi. Mujhe bachana chahiye tha unko.

Ali says raising his tone.

He let his hold loose on her and falls on the floor.

Main na...hin bac...ha pa...ya un....ko.

His voice breaks. Ocean of tears flew down from her beautiful hazel brown orbs. Her heart breaks seeing him like this. She sits besides him and holds his arm.

He looks at her. Her heart breaks at this sight of him.

Ro lijiye.

Mariam said. Her voice is thick and hoarse yet filled with tenderness.

Main na....hin bac....ha sak...a unko. Ku....ch nah...in ka...r pa...ya ma...in. Nah....in bac...ha pa....ya un...he

Ali says in a breaking voice.

Mariam gathers him in her arms tenderly, unable to bear the pain he is feeling and the guilt he is carrying with himself. He goes willingly hiding himself in her arms. The sweet fragrance of jasmine and sandalwood calms him. Her embrace seems so much tender to him that he buries his head more into her and cries touching her neck with his wet eyelashes. She doesn't say anything and continues rubbing his back as he continues crying.

Ali.

She pulls away from the hug and wipes his eyelashes once his cries lowered.

Mujhe hona chahiye tha wahan per....

Shh.

She stops him from saying further. She reaches out and holds his face in her palms unable to hear anymore.

Nahin Ali.

Mariam says. Her voice breaks, filled with fear. She cups his face with her hands and keeps her head on his heart. He wraps his arm around her petite frame.

She pulls away from his embrace and shakes her head sideways in a no.

Nahin Ali. Aapko kuch nahin ho sakta. Hum hone nahin deinge. Humne apna sab kuch khoya hai Ali. Hu...m aapko na...hin kho sakte.

Her voice tumbles. He smiles a little and gathers her in his arms and she goes willingly hiding herself against him.

Kahin nahin jaunga tumhe chod ker. Vaada.

Ali says softly. Mariam blinks her eyes.
