Scene 5

Camera pans back in on scene.

Alaina: Her energy isn’t totally drained and from the sounds of it, what is taken from Carina is given to the ghost… so she won’t just end her life now because that would be a waste of valuable energy. I also don’t think that Cassandra is dead. Didn’t you hear how that ghost answered you when you asked what happened? She didn’t know what to say at first. I think she made up that part about the ax and she’s really just still draining her energy!

Zariella: But why would she want energy?

Alaina: I don’t know…

Kat: Well, let’s not stay here to find out.

Zariella: Let’s get going. It’s getting darker.

Girls start walking in a loose circle. Bonnie is standing the farthest back. Kat is leading. Alaina and Zariella are in between. Suddenly, a rustling noise is heard.

Bonnie (loudly): What was that?

Other girls: Shhh!

Bonnie (in a small voice): Okay…

Nina (quietly, emerging from woods): It was me.

Bonnie: IT’S THE GHOST’S MINION! WE GOTTA GET OUT OF HERE! (starts to run, but Kat grabs the hood of her sweatshirt)

Kat: You bozo, that’s just Nina, Cassandra’s younger sister.

Bonnie: Oh.

Kat: Nina, why are you here? You shouldn’t have come into the woods. It’s really dangerous in here, tonight.

Nina: I followed you.

Zariella: Then you heard about your sister…?

Nina: Yeah. She’ll be okay, though, I just know it.

Alaina: I don’t know about that, that ghost was pretty scary… (Kat hits her arm and gives her a “shut up” look; she doesn’t want to frighten Nina)

Nina: Yeah, I know…

Alaina (suddenly): Nina! You must know the way back!

Nina: I do, actually… I think.

All other girls gasp a “thank you” and hug Nina.

Alaina: Let’s get going then. I really, really, really want out of here.

Bonnie (loudly): Let’s go home!

Kat: SHUT UP, BONNIE!

Ghost (appears behind Bonnie’s shoulder and has a devilish, teasing grin on her face): Boo!

Bonnie (jumps really high, and then turns around. The ghost is gone): The ghost!

Kat: Where?

Bonnie: She was just behind me!

Kat: I don’t see anything.

Bonnie: I swear!

Kat: Swearing is naughty. Now stop lying.

The girls keep walking for a few seconds.

Ghost (appears behind Bonnie’s shoulder and has a devilish, teasing grin on her face, again): Boo!

Bonnie screams, and then ghost disappears.

Kat (alarmed): What is it, Bonnie?

Bonnie: The ghost!

Kat (looks around): There is no ghost here… at the moment.

Bonnie: Wahhhh!

Kat: Stop whining.

The girls keep walking for a few seconds.

Ghost (appears behind Bonnie’s shoulder, again. In a taunting, ringing voice): You’re next.

Bonnie (runs into the woods, screaming in terror): I’M NEXT! I’M NEXT! NOOOOO! (ghost disappears before anyone notices)

Kat: Bonnie? BONNIE! GET BACK HERE!

Zariella: Where’s she going?

Kat: No where by herself! (takes off following her)

Nina: We can’t let them run off alone!

Alaina: What if we get separated, though?

Zariella: Let’s go!

The girls take off, following Kat who is still in sight. Bonnie’s screams are still heard. They slowly start to separate because Nina and Alaina can’t really keep up with Zariella and Kat is gaining speed and slowly exiting the scene. Bonnie’s screams fade. Kat exits shot.

Zariella (stops running, Nina and Alaina catch up to her):  KAT! COME BACK!

Nina: It’s useless, now. She’ll probably catch up with Bonnie, hopefully.

Ghost (appears from behind tree): Hi, girls. You better run, now. (smiles evilly)

Zariella takes off in the opposite direction they’d been running previously. Alaina and Nina run away also, trying to follow Zariella. Ghost laughs manically and starts to follow, slowly, then speeds up. The girls run around and Kat passes their path a few times. Still no sign of Bonnie. Zariella is tiring, so she is slowing and Nina and Alaina catch up to her. The next time they see Kat, Zariella grabs her wrist and they all stop. Ghost catches up to them, not tired at all.

Ghost: Didn’t take you long to tire, did it now?

All girls are panting.

Ghost: Well one of you is losing energy; I wouldn’t expect them to have very much endurance. I’ll be back for her when she passes out. I’ve only just kicked in with her energy stealing on her so it may be a while.

Kat: How’s Carina doing, ehh? She dead yet? What about Cassandra? Her energy drained?

Ghost (stutters): W-w-well that Cassandra girl was chopped up with an ax!

Kat: I know that you’re really just draining her energy. You want all our energy for yourselves! But I want to know, why can’t you do us all at once?

Ghost: Fine! You’ve exposed my secret about little Cassandra! And for your information, missy, I’m still not strong enough. But once I gain enough energy!

Nina (trying to be nice): But ma’am, why do you need energy?

Ghost (laughs, like it’s obvious): Silly, girl, I need energy so I can return to human form. But I like you; I think I’ll kill you last. But you (points to Kat), you’ll be next, well after the current girl. I don’t like you. (leaves)
