I
The wind howled loudly outside the bus, the rain pelted down on the roof like a child having a tantrum, lightning flashed brightly outside followed by its late but not entirely tardy companion, bellowing in the grey skies with passion and power. It was hard to see through the windows as outside was pitch black, the only one with the visual advantage would've been the bus driver, a middle aged Caucasian man slightly on the heavy side, and the teacher who was in the passenger seat, a dark skinned woman with bags under her eyes from exhaustion but also from having to deal with the six highschool students in the back.
"Omg its so cool outside!" Said a girl in a pink tank top with a large hot pink heart on her chest, blue miniskirt that rode up rather easily, dirty pink hair that only reached her shoulders, soft pink eyes, sun kissed skin and red ballerina slippers that were currently off her feet as she knelt in her seat peering outside, hands on the sill as her nose pressed against the glass.
"What can you possibly see in this weather? It's too dark." Said a Caucasian boy in a deep blue T-shirt with a single white stripe running across his abdomen, a lighter shade of blue leather jacket, black baggy jeans, black and blue converse, black hair with blue highlights, sapphire eyes and a piercing in his left eyebrow. He lounged in his seat while picking his teeth with a toothpick.
"Hey! Leave her alone, if outside looks cool then it looks cool!" A boy slightly darker than the Bluenette protested, fiery red spiky hair, crimson eyes, deep red leather jacket, black shirt with matching jeans, and red and black Nikes. Although he had good intentions with defending the girl's carefree attitude, he had a full view of her thong under her skirt which had ridden up so far that it could be mistaken that she left her house without any kind of bottom clothing, and a weird perverted smile was on his face.
The two boys glared at each other, sparks flew where their gazes connected, they would've been fighting again if not for the tall figure whose shadow loomed over both of them, they both flinched and hesitantly looked to its owner, a cold sweat breaking out on their backs.
"Don't make me have to back here for you two again." The person growled.
They nodded their heads frantically, despite their tough appearance they were scared- no, terrified of the owner. . .despite said owner being a girl.
Long violet hair that reached the middle of her back, dark skin, furrowed brows, piercing amethyst eyes, dark purple muscle shirt with two white stripes on the sides, dark skinny jeans and black sneakers. Her muscles bulged out of the shirt and tensed even more now that she was irritated.
She huffed at the boys and went back to her seat, dropping herself hard on the cushioned seat and causing her hair to bounce. Despite her aggression, sparks still flew behind her.
"Barbarians," another girl muttered, she had yellow hair held back in a short ponytail, thick brimmed glasses, bright yellow eyes that seemed almost animalistic, oversized yellow turtleneck, black and yellow skirt that reached her knees even when sitting, and orange flats. She grumbled to herself even more while reading her science book.
"Now now children," the teacher said tiredly, "no need to keep such noise in the back. . .there's only a few of you and I'm getting a headache." She added pushing a stray hair behind her ear. She had long and poofy emerald hair that always had a bounce to it, her mossy green eyes were dull and tired, drooping every now and then, she wore a forest green button down shirt and matching dress pants with black flats.
"Ahh, don't worry Miss, the house isn't too far now," the bus driver said, his country accent thick in his voice, "soon you'll be able to get away from them." He whispered.
"Haha, no offense but I would take my chances with these terrors than a haunted house any day." She chuckled.
The man smiled back, his pearly whites shining so bright they could light their path. He had slick back orange hair with sideburns that faded to black, he also wore an orange button down shirt with matching dress pants and black leather shoes. He was the chipper one of the group besides the Pinkhead.
The rest of the bus ride was quiet if not eery, for once the teacher enjoyed the silence but somehow it was a bit unsettling, if possible the more they continued down the desolate road the darker it got and the more the storm above them ranted and raved more.
"I don't remember it being this dark when we entered the forest." The teacher mumbled.
"Must be the trees, they are very high, especially in this part of the forest." The bus driver said.
"Ugh, I just wish it wasn't so cold." She rubbed her arms.
"It's the rain Miss, it's making the A/C colder."
"Figures."
"Hey," the Pinkhead whispered to the Redhead, " do you think the bus driver and Ms. Viridian could be a thing? They've been talking a lot to each other for the past few hours." She giggled.
"I don't know, but if so he's a lucky guy. I wouldn't mind tapping that." He licked his lips pervetedly.
"I heard that Mr. Merlot." Ms. Viridian yelled without turning around.
The Redhead flinched and pursed his lips, the Pinkhead laughing at him softly.
"Hey Rachel," the violet haired girl turned to the Yellowhead, "do you know anything about the place we're going to, besides the fact that it's haunted?" She smiled a bit as the girl flinched at the word 'haunted'.
"It's not haunted," Rachel spat, "a series of unfortunate events just happened in the house that resulted in death and its supposed that their souls roam the hallways." She stated.
"Yep, definitely haunted, anything else?"
Rachel groaned, "other than that there seemed to be no record of who lived there or if it even existed. It just. . .showed up about a century ago."
"Hmm, sounds like a ghost house now. Okay we're going on a trip to our favourite haunted house." She chuckled.
"It's not haunted!"
"Woah!"
The bus swerved violently to the left, barely able to keep itself on two wheels as it evened out on the road. The Redhead fell out of his seat and fell flat on his face, the Bluenette laughed his ass off at him, the Pinkhead fell on her back but was still in her seat. Rachel fixed her glasses with shaky hands and wide eyes, the violet girl grunted as she sat up in her seat, Ms. Viridian held on to her seatbelt like a lifeline and the bus driver huffed as he tried to steady his nerves.
"The hell was that?!" The redhead flared.
"I-I swear saw I something- someone was in the middle of the road just now." He sucked in air sharply.
"Who the hell would be out in this storm?"
"Language, Merlot," Ms. Viridian growled, "is everyone okay?"
They all sounded a 'yes'.
"Wait. . ." she scanned the bus intently, eyes landing on everyone except one, "where's Mr. Alabaster?"
Everyone made a low but audible groan, except the Pinkhead. She was back to staring outside.
"In the back Ms. V." The Bluenette answered.
Gazing off into the very back of the bus where the light barely reach the seats sat a lone boy, propping his arm on the sill as he stared outside, headphones on and music blaring in his eardrums to drown out the storm.
"Mr. Alabaster?" Ms. Viridian asked.
"He has his headphones on, he can't hear you."
"Oh, he doesn't look hurt does he?"
"Nah."
". . ." She turned back around but still clung to her seatbelt.
"Man I can't believe we're stuck with him," the Redhead mumbled, "he's so weird."
"He is in our class, Dipshit, what do you expect?" The Bluenette growled.
"What did you just say to me, Bitch?" The Redhead growled back.
"Oh, my bad, I forgot your brain can't understand big words. Oh wait, you don't have a brain!"
They both stood and squared each other up despite the rocking of the bus, they started throwing insults left and right. Causing a ruckus and Ms. Viridian to groan again. The violet head sighed and stood up once more, walking towards the two again but this time without them noticing. In a swift motion, she grabbed the back of their heads and slammed their foreheads together, creating a dull impact and two thuds on the floor.
"OW!" The boys yelled in pain as they rubbed their heads.
"I did say to not make me come back here didn't I?" She smiled smugly, "now if I hear another word from you two I'll cut your tongues out." She walked back to her seat, earning a stern look but still a 'thank-you' from the teacher. The boys winced as they sat back in their seats for the third time for the trip, making faces and gestures at each other instead of speaking.
The rest of the bus ride was quiet if not for the hum of the engine and the pitter patter of the rain on the windows.
But little did they know that the reason the bus swerved was watching them, eyeing their movements as they trekked down the road, black eyes fixed on the bus and snare increasing as they continued. The figure failed its objective, now the bus was getting nearing the house, the passengers closer to their demises. . .
∆§∆
"Is that the house?" The Pinkhead asked loud enough for everyone to hear.
They all looked out the windows to see what she was seeing, and just barely visible to the human eye in the darkness, the silhouette of a building came into view. It was large and seemed to be partial but still intact. Everyone's attention was so fixed to the building that no one noticed something was thrown in front of the bus.
*THUD**HISS*
"Did you feel that?" Ms. Viridian sounded worried.
"I think we hit something." The driver said.
"No duh." The redhead sassed.
"Behave Mr. Merlot," she faced the driver, "do you think we'll make it to the mansion before the tire gives out, Mr. Sandstone?"
"Of course!" He smiled wide, "Ole Betty will get us there in no time." He said proudly.
*POP**HISS*
". . .I should probably speed up." He chuckled nervously, the engine revving even more and the bus picking up speed.
They arrived at their destination quicker than expected and at this time the rain had stopped falling but the thunder and lightning were still at it, everyone grabbed their bags and most grumbled as they walked off the bus, still wondering why they had to be there in the first place, and at night. The loner in the back realized they had stopped and slowly looked forward seeing everyone leaving, he sighed and grabbed his own bag, walking off the bus with the rest of his class, his hair falling before his face as usual.
He had long ghost white hair that trailed to the base of his back, bangs that were so long they covered the top half of his face but he refused to get them cut, slimming long sleeved grey shirt, pitch black baggy jeans, monochrome sneakers and a black collar with silver spikes. No one really questioned the collar.
"Okay everybody," Ms. Viridian regained her lively attitude, though not at 100% just yet, "role call! Rachel Flaxen?"
"Here!" She said, pushing her glasses up her nose.
"Michael Cornflower?" The Bluenette answered.
"Copper Rosewood? Jack Merlot?" The Pinkhead and Redhead both answered.
"Vivi Periwinkle?" The Amazon woman answered.
". . .Chrisk Alabaster?. . .where are you? Oh there you are!" She smiled seeing the boy and walked towards him, he tensed but her warm smile slowly calmed him down, "now everyone, I know I've said this before but this is Chrisk's first field trip so please be polite and don't give him any trouble. Especially you Merlot."
"Oh c'mon Ms. V, can't I have a little fun?" Although seeming innocent his eyes said a different story.
She glared at him before giving Chrisk a reassuring squeeze on his shoulders, "now I hope you enjoy this field trip and make new friends with us okay?" She whispered to him and he nodded.
"Okay class, we didn't have the opportunity to greet ourselves to Mr. Alabaster properly back at the school before we left since he joined us a few days ago, and I know you guys haven't interacted with him yet, so I want you to-"
*CRACKLE*
Lightning struck dangerously close to where the group stood, and the thunder bellowed violently, it jumped the hearts of everyone and the rain started to fall again.
"Everyone on the porch!" But Ms. Viridian didn't need to say a word for them to move, Rachel was already on the veranda of the mansion, huffing slightly as she waited for everyone to come.
"Ah man!" Mr. Sandstone whined, "now I gotta wait longer to fix the tires." He made a sad face.
"Now we're stuck here." Michael whined.
"Should we go inside?" Vivi asked, "I mean we have to go in anyways."
Ms. Viridian tried the door but it didn't budge, she tried again but the same result, "it's locked. . .was someone here?" She mumbled to herself.
"Stand back Ms. V," Jack puffed his chest, "let a real man take care of this." He smirked at Michael who just flipped him the bird.
He tried the door but it still wouldn't budge, he tried and tried but still no luck, it got to the point where he was almost fuming and his grip so strong the door handle could break off. That is until Vivi came to his side and pushed the door with ease, making Jack fall inside with a grunt, landing on his face once again. Michael laughed at him again as Vivi smirked and crossed her arms, Rachel adjusted her glasses with an annoyed look, Copper was too far in her mind to really notice anything around her and Ms. Viridian and Mr. Sandstone went to help him up. Chrisk just watched in the background.
Inside was dark and gloomy, all lights were off but it was still bright enough to see, when they stepped in they were in a spacious gathering area in front of a large set of wooden stairs that broke off into two more sets as they increased in altitude, to their right and left were hallways with empty bronze candle holders near the ceiling and large paintings of people and landscapes but they were too faded to recognize. They gazed around the completely wooden area, some astonished by the Victorian style of home decoration and others uncomfortable about the headstones of fanged beasts with open snarling mouths.
"Oh my God! In here looks so cool!" Copper squealed, spinning haphazardly towards the stairs, giggling to herself as she mouthed words no one knew.
"Do we really have to continue this tour? I mean, we don't even have an official tour guide, no offense Ms. V." Michael voiced.
"Yes. . .well at least until the bus is fixed, we're only supposed to be here for a few hours. . .but it seems it may be the whole night if the rain keeps falling like this." She peered outside and saw streams of grey washing down the windows.
"You're all going to die here." An eery voice sang, causing Rachel to squeak in fear and everyone to freeze in surprise.
". . .was that a ghost?" Vivi asked.
"I-I told you, t-there's no such things as g-ghosts!" Rachel snapped.
"'Ghost' is just sugarcoating it deary," Rachel jumped two feet off the ground and ran behind Ms. Viridian, the voice was right behind her as she backed the steps. They looked for the source but came up empty, the only thing unusual was that of a flower in a pot that mysteriously appeared, blood red petals and black bud, a most peculiar flower indeed.
"Holy sh-. . .when did that get there?" Jack said.
"I've seen that flower before. . ." Rachel said to herself, pulling out an orange book from her pocket and skimming through the pages until she found the one she was looking for, "aha! Here we are, this species of flower is called 'Flos dæmonium' or ' Flos in infernum' which means The Demon flower or The Hell flower respectively, known for their pitch black and hellish red features the Demon flower is one of the rarest in the world and is mostly found in volcanic areas." Rachel looked up and saw everyone was amazed at her explanation (except Ms. Viridian), she smiled smugly and pushed her glasses up again.
"So you just have a dictionary on everything in your pocket?" Vivi said.
"Somewhat, but only for important things." She shrugged.
"It's so pretty though," Copper stooped down to the flower which was on the third last step, "I wonder who would leave a pretty flower like this lying about." She reached out to poke one of the petals but before her finger got near it a black eyeball with a deep red slit-like pupil appeared on the bud, she stopped in shock as they locked gazes. It wasn't until it blinked that she screamed and ran behind Jack.
"What the hell?" Michael cursed.
"What the fuck is that?" Jack joined in.
The flower tilted its head to the side, it's petals drooping to the side it was tilted.
"I-It's not supposed to do that. . ." Rachel cowered behind Ms. Viridian.
"No shit Sherlock."
"Calm your tone, Merlot." Ms. Viridian snapped.
"Oooh, seems like someone pissed off the teacher." The voice from before sang again.
"Who are you, where are you? Show yourself you coward." Vivi tensed up.
"Oh, but how can I be a coward when I'm right in front of you?" The voice purred menacingly.
Everyone looked around in confusion, how can the mystery voice be here when the only thing they see is the blinking flower?
"Don't tell me that came from the flower." Jack groaned.
A mouth formed below the eye, sharp teeth folding into a malicious smile, the eye gleamed more that the shocked looks on their faces grew, "Bingo," he stressed every syllable.
"Oh chimney, it's a talking flower!" Mr. Sandstone gasped.
"You bet your fat ass I am." It smiled even more.
"And a vulgar one too." Michael added.
"'Vulgar' doesn't even begin to explain what I am, you worm." The eye twitched.
"Worm?? I'll show you who's a worm you fucking weed!" Michael tried to get the jump on the flower, it may just be a flower and had no point in attacking it but he just wanted to, but Vivi caught him mid lunge and held the fuming boy in her arms, "let me go! Let me kill it, let me kill it!"
"Haha! I love the smell disappointment in the morning, and I bet your flesh tastes even better." It licked its 'lips'.
Rachel cringed and hid more behind her teacher receiving a reassuring squeeze from her.
"What do you want?" Ms. Viridian growled.
"What everyone in this bloody house wants, your delicious human souls," a sense of fear fell over the group, their faces judging but anxious, " and there're eight of you too? Damn we sure caught a break today." It laughed heartily.
"You're lying," Jack growled but you could see the fear in his eyes, "you're just a fucking plant!"
"A plant that's going to fucking kill you," the plant snapped, "and the name's Flowey so you better remember it cause I'm going to murder one of you insignificant maggots and it'll be the last thing you remember," he laughed again but it sounded more like a hiccupping growl, " but I'll give you a heads up before you go roaming aimlessly about this death trap and get yourselves killed by not my hands. You have until sunrise to get the fuck out of here before you're dead-"
"Why the hell would you want to help us?"
"Don't fucking interrupt me!! You piece of shit!!" Rachel flinched and squeezed the teacher harder, the growling wasn't towards her persay but it hit her the hardest, "now stay alive long enough for the sun to come up. If you don't, well, let's just say we'll have fun mutilating your bodies, and my reasons are mine to know, not yours Dipshit." The flower hissed.
"Wait, who's this 'we' you speak of?" Mr. Sandstone spoke up.
"Why the other monsters here of course," Flowey smiled, "every single one of them wants your pitiful souls to leave this damned place, but it's not like you would care, you'd be dead before you knew why anyway. Well I'll leave you guys to fend for yourselves now, all this talk is boring me, cya and happy hunting."
Before anyone could stop the flower he just disappeared in a thick cloud of smoke, leaving behind the smell of decay and dread. The group didn't know what to do, what to think, what to say. Monsters wanted their souls, to kill them, they were stuck there until sunrise? Maybe a tour to a haunted house really wasn't a good idea.
"Goddammit." Jack muttered.
"A-Are we really going to die?" Rachel shuddered?"
"Monsters are real?" Vivi mumbled.
Everyone started to lose their cool with each second that passed but their teacher stepped up to the plate and attempted to calm everyone.
"Hey, hey, no need to fret, we're going to get out of here." She smiled with ease although her heart raced out of fear.
"How?! We can't even get back outside, the door locked itself again." Jack protested.
"We'll find another way to get out, we'll search the house for any other means of escape then get everyone out."
"Searching a haunted house? Sorry Ms. V but that doesn't sound like a good idea." Michael said.
"Well it's either that or stay here and be at the mercy of whatever comes your way, if what the flower said is true would you really want to die here without a fighting chance?" She countered.
Michael opened his mouth to say something but closed it soon after, having nothing to say.
"Thought so. Okay class, our tour expedition is now a scavenger hunt and what we have to find is the way out," everyone looked up to her with attentive eyes and determined hearts, "now everyone do your best and be careful out there. Choose a partner, that way you'll never be alone at anytime."
Copper stayed with Jack.
Rachel wouldn't let go of Ms. Viridian.
Vivi volunteered to go with Mr. Sandstone.
And Michael volunteered to go with Chrisk, who had been oddly quiet this whole time.
"Okay now Copper, Merlot, Vivi and Mr. Sandstone, how about you four go upstairs while the others and I check downstairs?" There were no objections, "great, now good luck and be careful. We'll meet back here in about an hour. Be safe."
Everyone nodded and headed to their respective routes, each having their own contributions to their journeys but also their own fears to face, each having different personalities but all the same anxiety scratching at their hearts, all the same soul that will be devoured if they don't leave by sunrise. Will they ever see the light of day again?
So how're you guys liking the book so far?
What do you think of Rachel, Jack, Michael, Vivi, Mr. Viridian, Mr. Sandstone and Chrisk?
What do you think of my Flowey?
