𝐯𝐢. summer drive-in

HAUNTED
୨⎯ chapter six ⎯୧

Bianca's plan for the rest of the day was to stay in her room. watch movies, read her books or listen to music she doesn't know. but she wasn't going to go to the drive-in as a third wheel with either one of the boys. nor belly because she was going to go with cam.

bianca's phone vibrated and she picked it up.

shayla

hi! i don't know
if this is too soon to ask
but whatever
i was wondering if you would
like to go to the drive-in with me?
my friends don't usually do drive-in's
because they think it's
i actually don't know why.

bianca couldn't say no. she couldn't bring herself to be mean and nonchalant with shayla. she could do it with any other person but for some reason not her. bianca groaned and turned off her tv and sat up on her bed.

shayla

i would love to go to the drive-in with
you. i actually didn't have anything planned
so it's perfect!
also your friends sound boring.

tell me about it when we go to the
beach they only like to lay down
and not get inside of the water

oh baby i feel so bad for you

i know!!!!
i feel bad for myself
sometimes i wish i had more
outgoing friends i bet summer
would be a whole lot different

well i'm your friend and i promise
you this is going to be the summer you'll
never forget
why? because you just befriended bianca😉

lol 😭
i'll pick you up in 20

ok!

bianca turned on her tv, again, and put on her spotify playlist. once she had her music on full volume she walked over to her closet and picked out a simple outfit. she put on a light pair of jorts and a white long sleeve crop top shirt. the chest area was square and she loved it.

bianca put on deodorant, perfume and her jewlery. she went back inside of her closet to find her leather jacket. there were knocks on and she shouted, "come in!" and she found her jacket. "ah-ha."

"bianca where you going?" he asked.

bianca's face fell and she stuck her head outside of her closet door. steven stood there with his arms crossed over his chest and his head tilted slightly to the side. at the same time bianca's phone vibrated. instead of looking at her phone she stepped out of her closet and walked up to her window. shayla was pulling up in her car.

"hanging out with my big sister." bianca said shrugging her shoulders. in her mind she knew that steven couldn't ask questions about the debutante because he wouldn't care. expect what she doesn't know is that whatever she does, he cares.

"big sister?" steven asked frowning his eyebrows. bianca hummed nodding her head. steven strolled over to the window and saw shayla inside of the car. "shayla? shayla is your big sister for the debutante?"

"yeah why are you bothered about it? scared that i'm going to take your girlfriend away from you?" bianca smirked throwing on her oversized leather jacket and grabbing her phone from her pocket texting shayla that she'll be down in 2.

"i'm not bothered." steven said. "and she's not my girlfriend. she's just a friend."

"right." bianca scoffed. she moved past steven and going to head down stairs but before her foot stepped on the stair steven strolled over to her and grabbed a hold of her elbow pulling her back. bianca turned around giving him a glare. "what steven?"

"i don't like her." steven deadpanned making bianca squint her eyes at him and frown her eyebrows.

"so what? you're using her?" bianca asked taking her elbow away from him and crossing her arms over her chest. she may have only just met shayla and she have had strong feelings for her, but shayla turned around to be the exact opposite. and no matter what position her and steven were currently, she wasn't going to let him talk to her like that when she isn't here to defend herself.

"no, no! i'm not using her. it's true, we're just really good friends."

"okay." bianca said and letting out a light laugh when steven seemed to serious about making bianca believe this. steven gave her look and she simply continued laughing. "i'm no one to judge you, steven. just don't use her, she deserves better than that."

"yeah," steven said sighing in defeat. "yeah. just go."

and bianca gladly did. she turned around in an instant and ran downstairs and out of the door shouting out a small, "be back later! going to the drive-in with a friend!" and closed the door.

steven stayed at the top of the flight of stairs. he doesn't know why he kept on reassuring bianca that him and shayla were only friends. he wanted to do something differently with bianca but he chickened out the second that bianca opened her mouth and all he could focus on were the small details on her face.

"don't even think about it conklin." leo said leaning against the door frame. his lean but also muscular body being shown by the tight white t-shirt. steven rolled his eyes and turned around on his heels to face leo.

"think about what?" steven asked but leo didn't answer him and only went back inside of his room. which was stupid because him and steven share a room. steven didn't go inside instead he ran down the stairs and sat himself on the couch. his mind drifting off to her.

shayla and bianca watched half of the movie 'breakfast at tiffanys' and the rest of the movie talking to each other getting to know each other. by the end of the movie bianca and shayla knew almost everything about each other. bianca told her everything about herself, how she's spend her summers at cousins since her mom and the fishers and the conklin's mom were best friends, how living with boys isn't worth it.

at the some the guys came to visit but only to ruin belly's date with a boy. shayla's car was parked next to them just a few feet away. steven was the one driving and he parked in between them. even though he was here to mess up his little sisters date he couldn't stop glancing over at shayla and bianca.

but the girls weren't paying attention to them and continued on with their own friend date. bianca felt relieved and relaxed when shayla didn't bring up steven into the conversation. she was scared that if shayla did end up bringing steven into the conversation she wouldn't made a face or a certain emotion that she doesn't want to admit would be lace into her tone.

the drive back home they were silent. shayla had a taylor swift cd and it was playing. it was the speak now album. bianca hummed to the majority of the songs. halfway through the ride back to her house shayla shouted out to one of her songs. bianca laughed as her accent really came out with the lyrics.

"come on, sing with me!" shayla encouraged turning up the volume to the radio. and so bianca did. it surprised bianca how close she felt to shayla even though they've meet a day ago. she liked it though. she liked that shayla wasn't one of those stuck up rich girls. she liked that after years of living at cousins beach she finally had a true friend.

she just wishes she would've met shayla sooner rather than later. she wishes someone would've told her to cherish this friendship till the last of summer at cousins.

"thank you, shayla. seriously." bianca said opening up her door and sticking her foot out.

"no problem, bianca. your fun to hang out with, we should do this again." shayla said bianca smiled at her and got out of the car. "and thank you."

bianca frowned her eyebrows giving shayla a confused look. shayla shrugged her shoulders. "yeah, thank you. i've never laughed that much before. i think we're going to be good friends."

"yeah, i think so too. bye, shayla." bianca said waving her hand and closing the door to shayla's car. bianca walked up to the front porch and she turned on her heel to see shayla watching her still. bianca laughed and entered the house, shayla leaving once she saw bianca entered safely.

"hi, mom." bianca said upon seeing her mom after not seeing her for the entire day. she was sitting on the couch with laurel and susannah. susannah was fast asleep. laurel and lena were the only ones watching the movie. expect lena had tears running down her eyes. "mom, what's wrong?"

"nothing, baby. nothing." lena said sniffing up her tears and wiping away the evidence that was running down her eyes. bianca wasn't convinced. lena glanced at laurel for help.

"the movie just made her cry. she's okay. you should go and get some sleep." laurel said softly to bianca. the curly hair girl nodded her head. she didn't go up to her bed, instead she walked over to her mom and kissed her cheek. lena smiled at her putting her hand on bianca's arm.

lena bite her lip trying to suppress the chock sob to escape. lena took in a big deep breath and brought her hand to bianca's cheek. "go to sleep, honey. i love you." she whispered stroking her thumb on bianca's' face.

"i love you too mom." bianca said backing up, "goodnight laurel, i love you too."

bianca ran up the flight of stairs with the imagine of her mom crying still stuck in her mind. her mom doesn't cry, well at least not in front of her. lena was the type of mother who hide her negative emotions from her children. lena used to have blaise and she would cry or scream her anger out with him and he would listen letting her chock out. then he would comfort her the best way she could ever imagine.

but there wasn't any blaise and lena didn't have anyone to let out her emotions with other than her best friends. she could never hide her feelings from susannah or laurel, they knew her all too well.

bianca entered her room was belly was already fast asleep. bianca took off her shoes and lazily walked to her bed. she dropped down onto her stomach letting out a tired sigh. "the fuck." bianca whispered as she landed on top of a piece of paper.

meet me at the pool when you get back
- s.

her mind was telling bianca not to do it but her heart. her heart was against her mind. her heart started pounding. she was afraid that it will rip out from her chest. she was afraid that belly was going to be able to hear her thumping heart.

bianca didn't go to the pool straight away. instead she searched through her closet a pair of basketball shorts that were from the men's section. her dads to be exact. and she threw on a grey oversized hoodie. what she usually wears to go to sleep. bianca slipped on a mismatch pair of socks and slipped on her old air force's 1. she sprayed perfume quickly and re-added deodorant.

she shoved her phone inside of her hoodie pocket and headed downstairs. she crouched down and tiptoed over to the back door. bianca sighed in relief when she wasn't caught by lena and laurel. but when she was about to head outside she heard bits of their conversation.

"susannah is strong. she'll fight towards it, she's always have." laurel said but lena let out a chocked sob.

"i can't lose her too. we can't lose her." lena cried. bianca could see a little in front of her but the wall was blocking the living room. lena had her head on laurel's shoulder and laurel was rubbing her hand from her hair down to her back.

bianca didn't want to hear anymore feeling like she was invading their privacy. bianca slipped through the back doors and into the backyard. she loves being in the back area of the house. there were so many things. the beach was close, there was a gazebo, the pool, the grill. it was there and it was hers for the entire summer.

"how was the movie?" steven's voice startled bianca.

"shit. you scared the shit out of me fucker." bianca scoffed and glanced over to steven. he was sitting on one of the lounge chairs. he was wearing the same outfit he was wearing before, expect he changed his jeans to loose sweatpants but kept his button up shirt on. bianca laughed at his outfit.

"basketball shorts?" steven hummed but not in a of judgement. truth be told bianca doesn't know in what way he meant it. steven didn't know either he just pointed it out. he liked that she didn't try to look good for him because she still looked effortlessly pretty even with her basketball shorts and her oversized and over worn grey hoodie. he's seen that hoodie more than bianca himself.

bianca laughed at that as well. she walked over to the lounge chair that was besides him. steven threw his legs off the lounge chair and gave bianca a look. bianca doesn't know what came over her but she sat down at the end of the lounge chair.

bianca and steven looking in different directions. steven looking up at the dark sky with only the starts illuminating the sky. bianca was looking at conrad's window because she heard soft strums from his room. meaning that he was playing the guitar. she smiled fondly. her eyes then landed on steven who was already looking at her.

"shayla is nice, i like her." bianca said out of nowhere. she cursed herself the second it came out of her mouth but she didn't regret it because she got a reaction out of steven. he chuckled and nodded his head. bianca's stomach clenched but it wasn't of butterflies, it was of the new odd feeling.

"why did you want to see me?" bianca asked hugging her body. she was starting to feel her eyelids close on her and her body slumped itself not having the strength to keep it straight anymore.

"just wanted to catch up. we haven't talked since the start of summer. since i came actually." steven said.

"yeah we did." bianca laughed but steven gave her a look and she knew exactly what he meant. steven and bianca used to be what her and conrad are. close. best friends. inseparable. didn't know where steven was? with bianca. didn't know where bianca was? 100% with steven. but when bianca turned 15, steven seemed more distant from her and bianca never knew why.

she was fifteen while he was seventeen. a two year difference from there. the first week it was okay. steven and bianca were making milkshakes since bianca really wanted one but they didn't have any money to go and buy one. expect after that steven became weird, in a way. bianca was hurt but it soon didn't matter because she still had his friendship it just wasn't the same for some reason.

conrad and bianca became closer and that hurt steven. he never said anything about it or did anything about it because he didn't want to make things weird. he didn't want to admit to himself just yet.

"what's happened this past year? how's track?" steven asked shrugging his shoulders. bianca yawned and put a hand over her mouth.

"well, tracks been fun. i hope i get a scholarship. i'm a senior next year." bianca said yawning again. she doesn't know what was making her more tired, the waves of the ocean or the melody that conrad was playing on his guitar and the softness of his humming being hearable to them.

"a senior? you're getting old, wayne." steven joked. bianca grinned at him and punched his arm. steven made a fake hurtful look. "you hurt me."

"you big wuss." bianca breathed out. her eyes closed and she groaned softly. steven stayed quiet and brought his hand up to her head. bianca leaned into him and dropped her head on his shoulder.

she fell asleep with his warmth once again and a bonus with conrad's song.

belly, baby, please be more confident about what you WANT and of who you ARE. you are so much more than what you say about yourself. stop putting yourself down and start loving yourself. don't focus on having a relationship with one of the fisher boys i get their hot but clam down babe, self love before anything. and stop being so delusional. cause you're feeling into MY delulu self.

also not going to lie
i forgot how old i made bianca
but she's sixteen and turns seventeen
during September but they never
celebrate her bd at cousins, you'll see.
that's why the year her dad died - last year -
it says she's either fifteen or sixteen bc of that
