"Mi-Cha," my voice came out just barely audible. "Your... Your nose is bleeding again." I noticed then how freezing the basement had become. I could see my breath coming out of my body in puffs like fog.
Mi-Cha's hand slowly wiped at the oozing, thick liquid the streamed down the lower half of her face. Her hands were covered in it now.
"What's wrong with you?" Johnny questioned. "Did you lock the door?"
Mi-Cha's head drooped to the side, her eyes staring coldly at us. It was like she was seeing into our souls with a look of pure stone that could rip it right out of your body.
I slowly took a step back. "I-If you're just trying to get back at us for bringing you to this house, I think you're going on for too long." I began to shutter all over.
"Long?" She scoffed. "You know nothing about things going on for 'too long'!" Mi-Cha started walking in our direction. Our footsteps matched hers, but backing up. "It really becomes a long time when you've been beaten, you've been bruised by members of your own family for your entire life." Mi-Cha's pupils seemed to have expanded to fill her whole iris.
"It's not Mi-Cha," Renjun gasped.
"What are you doing to her?" Jaemin demanded.
"You don't know long until your body has been hidden in the walls of a house for almost forty years! And no one bothered to look for you! You don't know what a long time is like!" The spirit's voice left Mi-Cha in shrieks.
"Stop it!" I screamed.
"I'll show you what it's like to experience something for a long time."
My foot crept behind, looking for more room to continue stepping back, but only found another foot there. I looked back to see Haechan standing right behind me, not about to move any farther. A concrete wall blocked us all from going anywhere else. The decreasing space between us and 'Mi-Cha' forced me closer.
"Mi-Cha's still in there," Johnny whispered. "I don't know how to get her out."
The door jiggled from behind 'Mi-Cha'.
"What's going on?" Hana yelled out her question from the other side. "Are you guys okay?"
"No!" Johnny replied. "You have to get that door open!"
Mi-Cha's face twisted with rage. "Stay out of this!"
"Mi-Cha, what's wrong?" Hana questioned, her voice starting to shake.
Mi-Cha's body doubled over, as if she was in immense pain. Her head shot back up in our direction, but her eyes were back to her normal color. They squinted as tears ran out and her eyebrows pulled together. Her hair was sticking to the blood, sweat, and tears, but I could make out her teeth clenched in pain.
"South end of the house!" she was able to cry out before her whole body was pushed back. She let out a scream, and her back made a loud pop noise.
Johnny and Jaemin ran to her side and pulled Mi-Cha to her feet.
"Go away!" Mi-Cha tried to push them off, all her limbs twitching like crazy. "You can't be around me! She's still inside, and I can't fight her out!"
Jaemin held Mi-Cha's spazzing body close to him, wrapping his arms tightly around her. "Mi-Cha, when would I ever leave alone in a time of trouble?"
"Enough with the sugar and spice," Haechan demanded, taking a step closer to the group. "We have to burn that skeleton!"
Mi-Cha's body was a living earthquake. She let out painful noises, before falling silent... and completely still.
"That's either good," Johnny started, "or very, very bad."
Mi-Cha's head slowly rose to use. The black color covered her irises once again.
"Terrible it is," Johnny muttered.
I pushed the group of people down the basement hall and towards the south end of the house. Johnny stayed back to help Jaemin hold 'Mi-Cha' down. Mi-Cha's body wasn't short, it was average height, but she was also skinny, and didn't have much meat on her bones. I don't how much strength the spirit could give her, but I was sure Jaemin and Johnny would be able to hold her down.
Haechan, who was pacing in front of me, came to a halt. In front of him was a dead end.
"Where is the skeleton going to be if these walls are concrete?" Renjun questioned. He placed his hands on his forehead in frustration.
"If you look along where the wall and ceiling meet, you can see that there's a space," I commented. "She's either in that crack, or fell somewhere."
I looked along the racks of old storage stuff that's been left down here over the years. The racks reached the ceiling and were completely filled with the most random things, but something caught my eye. I quickly snatched it with a gasp.
"Is that lighter fluid?" Renjun asked, seeing the bottle in my hand.
I nodded. "If I remember..." My eyes ran through the piles, on hyperdrive. I reached and pulled out a long lighter. "There's a lighter too."
"MI-CHA!" I could hear Hana's yell.
"I wake up and this is how I'm greeted?" Jisung's voice rang through the halls.
"Jisung!" I called. "Thank goodness you're okay!"
"Hyunji, when we get out of here, you owe me so much!"
I laughed in relief that he was okay, and messing around, as he usually did.
'Mi-Cha' roared, and screams belted out from the others. I held my breath as footsteps echoed throughout the rooms, and yells continued to ring in my ears. Those of us in the room began to slip between walls and racks to hide, or even dashed out of the room to find another. I peeked out from the room, the lighter and fluid dropping out of my hands from the weakness spreading in my body.
It was then deadly silent.
The tense atmosphere broke with a cackle, one from 'Mi-Cha'. Her shoes scuffed against the floor as she shuffled in my direction. She was just behind a corner, and before she turned, a hand grabbed my wrist. I was pulled into a hidden corner, and arms wrapped around me, making sure I was held in tight.
"Let's see," 'Mi-Cha' spoke. "Let's start with someone fun..." She faked a gasp, full of coldness. "Jisung. You're such a little brat, aren't you? Sour, and a sore loser. At least Johnny wasn't oblivious to the fact Hyunji had a crush on him. I see you have no clue about Hana's fancy towards you."
The shuffling stopped in front of our door. My heart was about to thump out of my chest.
"Speaking of Hana, maybe instead of just admitting it to your friends, you should actually get the guts to let Jisung know, yourself." The footsteps came into the room. I couldn't see her since all the lights were off. It was completely dark. "Hyunji, this is a good one. What a silly fool to think that you would ever be able to be in a relationship with Johnny. You could never take the hint, huh? It wasn't until he actually yelled the cold, hard truth for you to finally realized it."
The arms wrapped around me began to hold me even tighter.
Mi-Cha let out a howl of laughter. Her steps began to shuffle back out of the room. "Hyunji, Hyunji. You were so infatuated with Johnny. Idiot. Let's see... How could you possibly let your brother get kidnapped on his birthday? Why did you even bring him here in the first place? You're a horrible sibling."
A scream was forming in the back of my throat, but I tried swallowing it. I tried swallowing it so hard, but it wouldn't budge. The person holding me from behind rested their head next to mine, almost as a way to try and comfort me. The tears didn't roll down my face until then.
I could also get a hint of who it was. The familiar, almost sandalwood, smell drifted my way. It was Haechan.
Chenle's P.O.V
Mi-Cha's laugh bounced off the walls. My grip tightened on the lighter in my head, turning on the fire.
"Oh," the cold voice awed. "What's this? A light?"
A long, eerie shadow lined the wall as 'Mi-Cha' walked into the room. Her eyes lingered on me, full of hunger. I could feel my jaw tightening from fear. I looked down to the blanket on the ground, wrapped around the skeleton that had been found in the corner of this very room.
My eyes drifted back up to the spirit corrupting Mi-Cha's body.
"What do you have there, boy?" she asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Just a little something that's been found," I managed to say. My hand squeezed the lighter fluid bottle, sending liquid out of the bottle, and covered the blanket in it. "Have fun in the underworld."
'Mi-Cha' let out a huff of laughter. "Chenle, right? What are you talking about?"
I slowly lowered the fire towards the blanket. "I'm talking about this." I narrowed my eyes. "Maybe you're the oblivious one here." I tilted the lighter onto the blanket, letting the fire build and spread across.
My head snapped in the direction of 'Mi-Cha'. Her jaw dropped, first, then came screams. Blood began to pour once again, and the veins on her neck and face darkened, and pulsed. She fell to her knees, burying her hands into her hair. Her body popped as it was thrown around.
Jueun, Renjun, and Mark came running out of their hiding spots in the room.
"See you, never!" Mark shouted.
The screams continued as people began to come shuffle into the room timidly. I wanted to cover my ears and hide them from the utterly painful noise, but it stopped. Mi-Cha's body fell to the floor in complete limpness.
"Mi-Cha?" Hyunji walked into the room and over to her body, the light of the fire dancing on Mi-Cha's sweaty and bloody face.
The room started to get hot incredibly fast.
"Chenle," Hyunji start, glancing at the orange and red flames. "Did you start a fire in the house?"
I turned around to see the fire, then slowly back. "I told you I wanted to burn the body."
"Mark, did that show ever tell you if a person will be okay if you kill a spirit while in someone's body?" Renjun asked. His concern sparked the same question in us all.
"Uhh..." Mark took a second to think. "I don't think it ever said anything."
Hyunji snapped her head in Mark's direction, her mouth slightly ajar.
"It was a fictional show," Mark added, quieter. "So... um... I have no idea if what we did was right, or harmful... Also, where's Jaemin and Johnny?"
