It's been about five minutes of silence. Some of us found a place on the red carpet to sit, others of us, including me, paced the room. My hand rested on my mouth, thinking of anything to do.
I looked up to see Haechan walking across my path, thinking to himself.
"Haechan-"
"Busy." He walked by, not even making eye contact.
I stopped for second, scoffed, then continued. You too, I thought. I'm just thrilled to see that even in a life or death situation, he still doesn't enjoy my presence. I guess some things never change.
I pulled out my phone to check the clock. It was getting close to midnight. If weird things are already happening, I don't want to know what would happen during the witching hour of 3 AM.
The sound of shattering glass was heard coming from the other room. People walking froze in place, staring at the door. Those on the floor slowly rose to their feet.
"Should we check it out?" Jisung asked.
Jueun glared in his direction. "You think following the strange noise is a good idea?"
"If we take a group of people, maybe it will be okay?" Jisung suggested. "That was defiantly glass shattering, so maybe a window broke?"
"I'll go with you," Hana said, stepping forward.
"Me too," Renjun said.
Jueun shook her head when Renjun volunteered. "I thought you were the smart one." She sighed. "I'll go too, just so I know you kids don't make any stupid choices during this stupid choice."
Chenle puffed out his chest, walking up to the group. "Count me in."
"I'm not sure that's a great option," Jueun said, trying to make it sound nicer than it was.
Chenle shook his head. "I can do it. I'll show you how brave I can be."
Jueun's expression showed how uncertain she was, but there was no more disagreement. The group gathered themselves and headed out the door.
Jisung's P.O.V
Geez, my heart was beating like crazy. If my inner emotions were showing on the outside, my legs would be so stiff I wouldn't be moving at all. I pushed away my fear, locking it inside my chest, hoping for a broken window. This could be our escape.
"Jisung?" Hana spoke up.
"Hm?"
"I'm sorry this is how your birthday is turning out."
I didn't know how to respond, so I just let silence hang in the air. However, Hana apparently had something else to say.
"Jisung?"
"Yeah?"
"You're a really good dancer," Hana complimented me. "You should've won that DDR tournament." She chuckled, almost pitifully. "I'm untalented. You were right, it is just memorizing patterns. Just goes to show much of a talent I don't have."
My eyes shifted to the side just for a second to get a look at Hana. Her head was hung low. "Thanks, Hana. About both of those, but don't say that about yourself. I'm sure you're great at something."
"Yeah, no problem... and thanks."
I played her comments in my head a couple more times. It was thoughtful, but I tried to push it out of my head. I need to concentrate on getting out of here.
I peered into the room that was across the hall. Nothing looked broken from what I could see. "Maybe it's over on the other wall." I slowly stepped in, staying cautious of my surroundings.
"Do you see anything?" Renjun asked.
I turned around to face the others standing outside of the door. "No, it doesn't look-"
My sentence was chopped in half as the door slammed closed between me and the group of people.
Jaemin's P.O.V
I leaned my head against the wall, hoping the group of Jisung, Hana, Juen, Renjun, and Chenle would make back to us safe. It was the nervous silence in the air that was pierced by the sound of a slamming door, followed by screams and pounding on wood.
Mi-Cha flinched under my arm.
My attention was directed to the hall. I watched as the group came crashing back in, with the exception of one.
"Where's Jisung?" Hyunji demanded. "What happened?"
"The door closed between us and him, dammit!" Hana bit her teeth together, grabbing onto the roots of her hair. She started to hyperventilate. "He was... screaming like he was in pain! We tried to... We tried to get though, but the door wouldn't budge!" Hana took in a huge, shaky breath. "Then it was completely quiet on the other side..."
All of us crowded around the group. They're eyes stretched to the size of saucers, except Hana. Her eyes were squeezed shut. Tears poured down her cheeks. "DAMMIT! DAMMIT!" she screamed, crouching down on the ground.
Hyunji was frozen, as were the rest of us. Silent streams of tears dripped over her cheeks. "You idiot," she whispered. "You idiot! You let him leave!" Hyunji scolded herself.
"I... I know this is a bad question to ask," Jueun started, her voice soft and slow, "I get why Hyunji is sobbing, it's her brother, but Hana, you never cry." Jueun got down on her knees next to the sobbing girl. "Why are you this upset?"
Hana tilted her head back, continuing to try and take in deep breaths. "I tried so hard, so hard not to like him. I sit there and think of all the things he's said to me and all the things I didn't have the chance to say. I drown in his eyes, and suffocate in his smile. Right now, I can't breathe, and it hurts so much!"
Mi-Cha's hand flew over her mouth. The whole room was silent besides the sounds of sobbing echoing from the mouth of Hyunji and Hana.
"Hana, why did you never tell us?" Jueun asked, sounding hurt.
Hana didn't answer.
"We have to go find Jisung," Hyunji declared, wiping her face. She drew in an unstable gasp. "No more tears, not now. Not until we make it out of here; not until we all make it out of here."
