Chapter 23

"I'm bored." Tim says as he plops down on the couch beside Adam.

"What do you want to do?" Adam asks as he mutes the tv.

"Let's go to that club. Just the two of us." Tim says as he gives his lover his best puppy dog eyes. "Pleeeeaseee."

"I'm spoiling you." Adam chuckles.

"Well, hell, I've only been to town twice in the past hundred years." Tim says with a pout.

"Awww," Adam says, mimicking his pout. "Then let's go."

"Really?" The spirit asks, his face lighting up with excitement.

"Really, really." Adam smiles.

"Cool!" Tim says as he jumps up from the couch. "Let's go get ready."

"Cool? You need to stop hanging with Austin so much." Adam laughs as the spirit grabs his hand and pulls him up from the couch.

"Does Austin have to wait a hundred years before he's able to do what you can do?" Adam asks as he pulls into the crowded parking lot.

"I suppose that I could train him spiritually. Although I've never done it before." The cowboy answers. "But wouldn't it be dangerous for him to come to town? I mean, I'm sure the people he knew are still around."

"Yeah, that's true. But I know he gets bored too sitting in the house all the time." Adam replies as they walk toward the building.

"Another thing too, when my spirit gets weak, I go to my grave to rest. But I have no idea where Austin's body is even buried. I'm not sure if he even knows." Tim says.

"That's sad. It shouldn't be too hard to find out. I'll check into it." Adam replies.

They walk into the club and have to take a seat at the bar since all the tables were occupied.

"What can I get for you?" The bartender asks.

"Bourbon and coke." Adam answers.

"And I'll take a beer." Tim says, receiving a strange look from his lover.

"I didn't think you could drink anything?" Adam asks as the bartender walks away.

"Oh, I can. I just can't taste it and it has no effect on me." Tim answers. "But I'm not going to sit here like a hill and not have a drink in front of me."

"Before we leave here tonight, I'm going to teach you how to two-step." Adam giggles as he leans into his cowboy.

"I'll probably let you too." The spirit smiles at him.

"Really?" Adam grins.

"Really, really. Believe it or nor, back in my day, I was quite the dancer." Tim smirks.

They sat quietly for a few minutes watching the dancers on the dance floor. Adam was pointing out some of the dances to his lover.

"Adam?" Tim says quietly as he turns his head toward the blonde. "This lady beside me keeps looking at me."

"Maybe she thinks you're cute." Adam whispers.

"Excuse me." The lady says as she taps Tim on the arm. "Do I know you?"

"Miss, if that's a pick-up line, he's taken." Adam says, looking around his boyfriend at the lady.

"No..." The lady giggles as she shakes her head. "I'm sorry but you do look familiar. Have we ever met?"

"I'm pretty sure we haven't." Tim answers with a polite smile.

"Oh, okay. Sorry." She smiles as she turns back to her drink.

Tim takes a drink of his 'nothing' drink. His eyes suddenly widen as a flashback hits him. He sits down his drink and glances back around at the girl.

"Oh, sh*t." He whispers to himself. He quickly turns his body to face Adam. "Adam?"

"Hmm?" Adam answers as he looks at the brunette. What he saw was a pure look of horror. "Babe, what's wrong?"

"Ho.ly sh*t." Was all that Tim could manage to say as he stares into his lover's eye.

"What?" Adam asks as he leans closer.

"Baby, it's her." The spirit says.

"Who's her? And what her are you talking about?" Adam asks, totally confused.

"The girl next to me. I saw her at Austin's party that night." Tim whispers. "I think she was his girlfriend."

"But how would she know you?" Adam asks.

"That damn portrait." Tim says.

"Okay. We don't need to panic." Adam whispers.

"I'm cool now. I got this." The spirit says as he turns back to face the bar and takes another drink.

Adam chuckles and shakes his head. He definitely needs to keep the cowboy away from Austin.

"So." Tim says, turning his attention to the young lady. "Are you here alone?"

"Yeah." The girl nods sadly.

"What? That's hard to believe. A pretty girl like you?" Tim replies.

Adam smiles at the cowboy's Southern charm.

"Thank you." She says, giving him a sad smile. "Long story short? I made a huge mistake a few years ago and I've paid for it ever since."

Tim gives Adam a quick glance.

"I'm sorry if I sounded a little rude earlier." Adam apologizes. "Can we buy you a drink?"

"No apology necessary." The girl smiles. "I once had a gorgeous boyfriend too that I would have clawed anyone's eyes out if I thought they were coming on to him."

"Forgive me for asking but what happened between you two?" Tim asks as Adam ordered her another drink.

"Stupidity on my part." The girl answers after thanking the blonde for the drink. "I was only trying to make him jealous. He died that night and it was all because of me." She sniffs as she looks down at her drink.

The spirit drops his head into his hands with a heavy sigh. How was he supposed to tell Austin about this?

"We're so sorry." Adam says when Tim didn't reply.

"But I think about him all the time." She says with a slight smile. "I mean, I tried to date again but I just couldn't find anyone like Austin."

Adam hears a muffled 'Sh*t' come from his lover.

"God, I am so sorry." Adam says, then stretches his hand out to the girl. "I'm Adam."

"Olena." She says with a friendly smile as she shakes his hand.

'Double sh*t.' Another muffled comment coming from the spirit.

"And this is my boyfriend ...." Adam says as he points to Tim.

"Regan." Tim answers quickly, earning a confused look from his lover.

"Pleased to meet you both." She smiles as she shakes their hands. "I didn't mean to dump my sad life on you two."

"Everyone needs someone to talk to. Even if it is a stranger." Tim says.

They continued to chat throughout the evening. Tim and Adam danced several dances together with the brunette catching on to the two-step pretty quickly.

They even asked Olena to dance a couple of times. Although Tim was very uncomfortable with the way she kept looking at him. No. It wasn't a flirtatious look. More like a 'Where do I know you from?' type of look.

Adam noticed that Tim was beginning to look tired and very weak. They had let the time slip by them.

"Well, as much as we hate to, we really need to head home." Adam says.

"I'll probably be heading out after I finish my drink. Thank you guys for sharing your night out with me. It was really fun." Olena smiles as she gives them both a hug.

"You're very welcome." Tim says, giving her a tired smile. "It was fun."

She smiles as she watches them go out the door. Turning her attention back to the drink in from of her. As she starts to take a drink, a vision pops in her head causing her to drop her drink.

"Holy hell!!' She says loudly as she turns to look at the exit. "It's him! The man in the portrait!!"

Until next time .... ✌️
