Prologue

"Mr. Kim, good morning," Taehyung's boss, Kim Namjoon, greeted with his dimpled smile as he popped his head into Taehyung's cubicle.

"Ah, good morning, Mr. Kim," Taehyung greeted back.

After five years of working for the man, Taehyung still found the humor in greeting his boss by the same name he greeted him.

"I just emailed you those files you sent me yesterday, but I haven't gotten around to putting them in the correct folders. I was hoping to get that finished before lunch, sir," Taehyung informed the man, assuming that's why he'd popped in.

Namjoon smiled easily, nodding, "thank you, Taehyung-ssi, but that's not why I'm here."

Taehyung fully swiveled his chair to face his boss, giving him his full attention.

"I was hoping you'd accompany me and some other colleagues on a business trip to discuss some company partnerships with the spokespeople from those companies," Namjoon informed him.

He had worded it as if he were asking a favor from a friend (which, Taehyung was). But, as Taehyung's boss, Taehyung knew this was a mandatory trip.

"Sure thing, boss. When's the trip?" He asked, grabbing a post-it and pen to write down the information, looking at Namjoon expectantly.

"It's in one week from today. June twelfth to June sixteenth, one week. The hotel rooms will be paid in full by the company, as well as travel, as we'll be traveling together by plane. Most food costs will also be taken care of."

Taehyung nodded, writing down everything his boss was telling him.

"Great," he said, pulling the post-it from the rest and sticking it to the wall of his cubicle, in the little open space that was left between other post-it's that were already collecting dust, "I look forward to it."

Namjoon nodded, smiling, "I'll email you in a few days to give you more information, such as the time we'll be leaving, who all is going, stuff like that."

Taehyung nodded easily, "of course. Hey, you wanna grab lunch with me and Jimin-ssi later?"

"Ah, really?" Namjoon asked, a glint in his eye, "sure, Taehyung. Thank you. Well, I've gotta go talk to a few more people about this. I'll see you at lunch, Mr. Kim."

Taehyung smiled as his boss was leaving with a wave, "seeya, Mr. Kim."

-

"Mr. Jeon."

Jungkook's quick typing came to a pause as he turned his chair to face his boss, standing in the entrance of his cubicle.

"Morning, Mr. Kim," he greeted, "what can I do for you?"

"Are you free to go on a business trip in one week's time?" Namjoon asked, leaning against the frame of the entryway.

Jungkook hummed, and looked over his bare calendar.

"Let's see..." He said, pretending to see if he was free, despite his calendar only having a birthday reminder for one of his colleagues on the twenty-fifth.

He turned to Namjoon, who was smiling comically at him, "yep, I think I can squeeze a trip in."

Namjoon chuckled, "how generous. It's from June twelfth to June sixteenth. The hotel is going to be paid in full by the company, as well as traveling, as we will be on the plane together, and most food costs will be covered."

Jungkook nodded, "who else will be there?"

"Seo, Choi, Min, Park, Jung, Kim Seokjin, and Kim," Namjoon responded.

Jungkook nodded, "and by the other Kim, who are you referring to?"

Namjoon sighed, "Taehyung."

Jungkook huffed, pursing his lips, "okay, that's fine."

"Jungkook," Namjoon began, and stepped further into the cubicle, "you and Taehyung are my two best employees. And you've both been working here the longest-"

"we've only been working here for five years?" Jungkook said.

"I started this company five years ago, Jungkook," Namjoon deadpanned, smiling at Jungkook.

"Oh, right," Jungkook muttered, scratching his neck.

"Like I was saying," Namjoon continued, "you guys are my best employees. I hate seeing you two always fighting and bickering. You both have become my friends over the years, but I'm never able to hang out with the two of you together because of this...rivalry you have going on!"

Namjoon was clearly upset. And it upset Jungkook to see.

Because, although Namjoon was still his boss, like the man had said, they've become friends. And Namjoon was the best boss Jungkook's ever had.

Jungkook sighed, and stood up, "I know, hyung. I'm sorry. I'll try not to start anything with Taehyung at work from now on. It's unprofessional and can hurt the company. I just can't stand him, hyung!"

"That's fine," Namjoon responded, putting a hand on Jungkook's shoulder for a brief moment, "you don't have to get along with everyone. But, for the sake of the trip at least, just put that aside for now. Okay?"

"Okay, boss. I'll try," Jungkook said.

Namjoon nodded.

"Do you wanna get lunch later?" Jungkook asked.

Namjoon smiled apologeticly, "I'm sorry, Jungkook. Taehyung actually asked me earlier to join him and Jimin-ssi for lunch."

Jungkook huffed, "that's okay. Tomorrow then."

Namjoon nodded, "of course."

One week later, at the end of the twelfth of June, Mr. Kim was at their hotel handing out their room keys.

Taehyung was talking to Jimin and Hoseok, his two colleagues and friends, but they both got their keys before him.

"I'll see you in the morning, Tae," Jimin smiled, hugging the man.

"See ya, Tae," Hoseok smiled, and the two left to go to their respective rooms.

Jungkook was talking to Yoongi, a man he didn't really talk to much, who was always so intimidating.

He learned, however, that Yoongi was definitely a big softie. But Yoongi got his room key, so they bid each other goodbye and then the man was gone.

It was just Taehyung and Jungkook left, waiting for their boss to hand them their room keys.

Taehyung side eyed Jungkook, who was looking him up and down with a poorly hidden sneer.

"Okay, guys, listen up" Namjoon began, looking bashful, "I must have messed something up when I was making the reservations."

Taehyung and Jungkook looked at him confused.

"How so?" Asked Taehyung, picking nervously at his nails.

"Well," Namjoon began, "I accidentally booked you both the same room. Two queen size beds on the fifteenth floor."

Jungkook stared at Namjoon.

There was a false apologetic glint in his eyes that lead Jungkook to believe this was no accident at all.

Taehyung, the air head, clearly didn't suspect anything, judging by the way he was gaping at the man.

"Hyung!" He cried, "you're saying we have to share a room?"

Namjoon nodded, "yes, Taehyung. I'm sorry. But, maybe this will be good for you two?"

Jungkook raised an eyebrow at Namjoon, who looked away like a dog caught sneaking extra treats.

"Mhm," Jungkook said, and took the room key from Namjoon's hand.

"Goodnight, Namjoon hyung. Sleep well. I'll see you in the morning."

Then, Jungkook left, heading up to his- their room, cursing Namjoon in his head.

Taehyung stayed for a moment, and glared at Namjoon.

"Namjoon, you did this on purpose, didn't you?"

Namjoon looked down, "I just want you guys to get along, Tae."

Taehyung sighed, "at least there's two beds. Goodnight, hyung. Sleep well."

Then, Taehyung was heading to their room.
