CHAPTER 30;
I LOVE YOU!!?

"Everyone in the world should get a standing ovation at least once in their life because we all overcometh the world."
—August Pullman's precept.

{UNEDITED}
I was beyond surprised— I still am, to be honest— when the principal called Harry out to sing in front of the whole school. Which is why, I am currently holding my laugh as I watch Harry's usual trademark smirk slowly turning into a frown.

"Mr Styles?" The principal repeated, "please sing us a song."

Harry stood up slowly, his scowl so visible. "For what purpose, Mr Principal?"

Shit, shit, shit, I mentally yelled inside my head, praying to god the principal would shut up and just make harry sing. We really don't need another 'haylor' article, now, do we?

"Do I need to entertain you and the rest of the student body here?" The principal asked in a challenging tone, "also let you have another boring lecture, as what you teenagers these days call it, along with another punnishment?"

"No."

"Good, please come forward now. I'm not going to let these students skip classes just for you. Morning assembly is going to end in ten minutes."

Harry stood up from the chair, making his way to the stage. The female populations started gushing and squealing and saying things like "he's so hot" "he's going to sing oh em gee" "can I be his girlfriend?"

Harry took the microphone from the principal. "I must say, I feel honored to have been invited to the stage to sing you all a song. Thank you, sir."

"My pleasure, Mr Styles."

Harry's left hand made it's way to his pocket, his facial expression showed no signs that he was nervous. His expression was calm, and the smirk playing on his face making it look like he was planning something big.

"I am going to sing," he started, "but I would like to invite Taylor Swift to the stage to sing with me."

Holy noodles, fuck me, I cursed inside my head.

"Oh my!" I played along, "thank you for the offer but considering you made me fell. With all due respect, please sing as a soloist."

Oh, we're so getting another 'haylor' newspaper tomorrow.

"That's sad. I think the song I would be singing would be exactly perfect for a duet."

"Well then, go and find another person to sing it with you. I'm so not into sharing a stage with you. Who knows what sort of disease you have."

The smile I've been holding creeps through my face when I hear the snickering from the groups of jocks in the back. And I'm not that oblivious to not know that a lot of girls have been sending me mean glares.

"We're not gathered here to hear both of you argue," the principal stated, "the kids here can pick! A duet or solo?"

The auditorium started getting really noisy. As the students decided on what to choose. Silently, I was praying in my heart. Wishing they would choose solo.

"Silence! Duet or Solo?"

"Duet," they said in unison.

Although, I did hear a few girls said solo. But, I'm pretty sure their high-pitched voices aren't louder than the jock's even if it's doubled.

"Dang it," I cursed out loud.

Making my way up to the stage, harry's snickering made me want to punch his face and break his jaw or even loose his teeth.

I could feel a lot of stranger eyes on me, watching my every move as I walk to the stage. I focus on going up the stage without tripping on my heels. I could feel all the nervousness building up making me want to scream. I am well aware that my condition explains a metaphor: cold feet.

The principal handed me a microphone when I reach the stage.

"What are we singing?" I ask biting my lips.

"I love you."

"What?" I said in a confused expression.

What the actual hell? He called me to stage to tell me that. Aw, that's sweet. Do I have feelings for him, though? Oh my god. It's going to be so awkward. Did he just tell me he love me? Let me repeat. Love not like. Liking and loving is two different—

"No, no, no!" Harry said quickly after realizing what he said, "that's not what I meant. I love you is the song title."

"Oh," I said feeling slightly disappointed, "who's the singer?"

"Alex and sierra."

"I know that song," I said feeling excited, "they sang little do you know too, didn't they?"

"Yes, quit talking. We have a song to perform."

I immediately felt all nervous again all of a sudden. Damn him. Why did he have to remind me?

"Will there be any music?"

"No," he said.

"I fell in love with a beautiful girl and she still takes my breath away," he started singing, "I fell in love in the morning sun, while the hours slipped away."

I could feel myself getting less nervous as Harry started singing. His voice silenced the whole auditorium.

"And I love you," he sang, "now you don't want me to.

Realizing it was my turn, I bring the microphone up to my lips. "You ran your finger down my back and you spelled out your name," I continued singing, "while we lay there on the soft warm ground for a week and thirteen days."

Then it came to the part where we had to sing it together, "and I know this sounds so wrong, and you've heard it all before. I didn't come back and I wasn't there," we then sang the last part before the chorus start, "I won't trouble you no more."

The song reached the part where it was Sierra's turn again. I smiled to myself continuing to sing, "I fell in love with a beautiful boy and you still take my breath away," I sang while facing him.

"When you left it was the end of my world cause I never got to say," Harry sang facing me.

We were now staring at each other as we sang the chorus, "that I love you more than you think I do," and believe it or not he is smiling, "now you don't want me to."

"And I love you," I finally sang my last part.

"Now you don't want me to," Harry sang the last part of the song.

I was too lost in the moment to remember I finished singing the song with Harry. The claps from the audience sounded unclear, but I'm not that blind to not know we earned a standing ovation. And like what August Pullman said, 'everyone in the world should get a standing ovation at least once in their life because we all overcometh the world' and I just earned myself one.

And right at this exact moment, Harry had to ruin everything and whisper, "have you had enough of checking me out?"

"Shut up! I'm enjoying this," I told him with a genuine smile.

I wasn't expecting any of this to happen and I'm shocked as well because after I shushed him, he's smirk turned into a smile. A real smile and it looks really cute.
