miss jenn?!
All of the Wildcats sat around Miss Jenn and began to excitedly ask her questions about why she was here as well as express their happiness that she was here with them.
She then clapped and said, "Wildcats!"
"What are you doing here?" Carlos questioned happily.
"EJ asked me for a couple directing pointers and I had already been back from my Caribbean cruise for 15 minutes, so I drove here," Miss Jenn revealed to all of them.
"Wow," Carlos said in awe.
"Are you tired?" Ricky asked in concern.
Miss Jenn hesitated before answering, "It's starting to hit me." Some of them chuckled a little at that. "But — Uh — Tell me about you. What is happening with the show?"
"Kourt and I got Elsa and Anna," Gina told her before the three women shrieked excitedly.
"I got Olaf," Carlos announced. "But there's no dressing room, so I basically spend all day in the costume."
"Noted."
"I'm the Duke of Weselton," Marcus added with a shrug.
"Oddly enough, I see that," Miss Jenn pointed at him and Marcus grinned. She then looked over at Nadia before she remembered, "Oh, yes, wait...EJ told me you were his co-director. That definitely makes sense to me."
Nadia nodded with smile, glancing at EJ who smiled back at her. How could I have been so mad at him? she thought, wanting to punch herself in the face for their ridiculous argument.
"And I'm Kristoff, but maybe my dad already told you," Ricky assumed.
Miss Jenn nodded, "Oh, and remind me later, he sent me with an early birthday gift for you." Ricky nodded at that. "Oh, and who are you playing, Ashlyn? Are you Anna and Elsa's long-lost sister who they discover on ancestry.com?"
"We're not allowed to add parts to this one. I checked. Several times. I'm actually in the ensemble," Ashlyn told her, feeling a little embarrassed.
"A musical is a beautiful body. The ensemble is its sturdy backbone," Miss Jenn said to try and cheer her up, and a faint smile made its way up to the redhead's face.
"Oh, sorry, guys. We have to get back to the climbing wall or we're gonna forfeit the whole game," EJ jumped in quickly.
"Oh, boy," Kourtney breathed out nervously.
"Oh, Miss Jenn, do you wanna come watch?" Gina queried.
"Oh, I don't have my theater glasses or athletic footwear," Miss Jenn responded, not really an outdoorsy person.
"Come on, Miss Jenn. Let's go to camp," Carlos urged, holding a hand out to her.
Once they were able to convince Miss Jenn to watch, the climbing wall challenge commenced. The walls were pretty big, but Nadia wasn't too scared. She had gone rock climbing before and she was pretty good at it, but then again, she was a pretty athletic person.
"This is our final athletic competition before the big sing-off. We'll do a series of sprints mano-a-mano, and one player will prevail each time," Val announced once the other wall climbers were finished. "Okay, um, Kourtney, Gina, you're up."
"Let's go, Gina!" Ricky cheered a little too loud, earning a suspicious look from Nadia. "What?"
"Oh, nothing. Nothing," Nadia brushed off, and now it was Ricky's turn to be confused. Nadia just looked forward, noticing Kourtney's very anxious stance near the wall. "Oh no..."
"I feel so bad for Kourt. She seems really scared," Marcus commented quietly to his sister, walking up next to her.
"I know. You think they would let her switch out with someone?" Nadia asked him and her brother shrugged, making her sigh.
"Hey, is your friend okay? She looks like she's about to cry," Dakota said to Nadia, walking up to both of the twins.
"We were just talking about that. She's scared of heights, so this challenge definitely isn't the one for her," Nadia explained to him as Kourtney was practically forced to put on her gear.
"Damn, that sucks," Dakota said and Nadia nodded.
"Let's look alive, people! We're up next!" EJ shouted and everyone cheered. He then looked over to see Dakota and Nadia talking together pretty closely, making his smile fade and walk away from the center of the crowd.
"Let's do this!" Val stepped in.
"Oh, haha, I just remembered that Idina Menzel mentioned on a podcast that Elsa's actually afraid of heights!" Kourtney lied to try and get out of the challenge.
"Really? She lives in a tower," Carlos pointed out in confusion.
"Not now, Carlos," Kourtney told him through clenched teeth.
"Come on," Val urged and Kourtney reluctantly stepped towards the wall where they strapped her in.
"Come on, Kourt!" Carlos cheered.
"Three, two, one!" Val counted down before she blew her whistle, starting the challenge.
Gina immediately began to climb the wall while Kourtney just stayed on the ground, just looking up in fear. "Come on, Kourt, you got this!" Nadia shouted, trying to hype her up even though they were on different teams.
"She is remarkably fast," Ashlyn commented since Gina was practically already at the top of the wall while Kourtney hadn't even left the ground.
Gina then pried the blue flag off of the wall, causing the Blue Team to applaud and cheer excitedly since they had won this challenge.
"Great! Gina won! We're done! We're done!" Kourtney exclaimed, pointing at her belt so the girl could detach her from the wall.
"But you have to at least try," Val said to her.
Kourtney stepped toward her once she was unbuckled. "Look, you all are amazing at these games without even trying," she began, taking her helmet off. "If I were to try now in front of all of you, I wouldn't be able to control what happens."
"That's why we have to push through. Even when it's hard," Val responded before she started to chant, "Kourtney, Kourtney, Kourtney!" Most of them began to chime in, apart from Nadia and Miss Jenn.
Nadia knew that it would be good for Kourtney to overcome her fear, but on her own time. She didn't like the fact that Val was forcing her to do it.
Nadia quickly made her way to the front, stopping in front of the blonde and facing her. "Val, I don't think you should be forcing her to do this. It's not right," she told her sternly.
"It's good to get over your fears!" Val explained a little too excitedly.
"Yeah, but not when you're about to break down in the middle of everyone," Nadia seethed angrily and Val's grin faltered, getting scared of the look on the Coleman girl's face.
Miss Jenn seemed to think the same way so she quickly stepped in the front. "Campers. Mommy's talking." She then turned to Kourtney, whispering some words to her that Channing only seemed to hear since he was filming. Miss Jenn then hugged her, earning a confused look from Val. "Well, I have got to get back on the road before I have a hard out at being up more than 40 hours in a row."
"Hey, can't you just stay? I never really mastered rule number 49," EJ spoke up as Nadia walked over to him, sending Val a dirty look that she definitely caught. Even though EJ wasn't hooking up with her, that didn't stop Nadia from disliking her; she was just up in everyone's business for no reason.
"Honey, you have everything you need to lead. And always have. And look who you're directing. These kids are a dream. If they know their lines, you'll be fine," Miss Jenn assured him. "And you have Nadia who doesn't take anyone's crap either. So, you're good."
Nadia laughed. "Thanks, Miss Jenn," she said.
"Anytime," Miss Jenn winked.
"Thank you, Miss Jenn. For everything, seriously," EJ thanked gratefully.
"Richard?" Miss Jenn then called out, pulling his present out of her purse. "From your dad. Break a leg out there. Jennifer out!" she announced before she walked away. She then pushed and turned back around. "Where's the door?"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The two teams sat in the amphitheater, getting ready for the sing-off that would finish the Color War. "Okay. Hi! Um, it's a tie game, so the outcome of this cheer-off determines the fate of Color War!" Val said into the microphone, making everyone cheer for the umpteenth time. "Okay, so, this year, I have picked It's On from Camp Rock 2. And I printed out lyric sheets, but if you don't know the words, that means something went deeply wrong in your childhood and you didn't watch this iconic sequel. Oh, and as a reminder, when I stop singing, somebody has to take over. Here we go!"
Val walked over and held out the microphone to Jet. "Drums!" he said, making the drum beat go off.
"A little guitar place. One, two, three, four."
Val:
I hope you're ready for the time of your life
Just look at me, I put a gleam in your eye
Buckle up, we're gonna take you for a ride
Val then handed the microphone to Ricky, so he stood up and started singing.
Ricky:
Let's go, we gotcha goin' good in the vibe
Gina then came running over, grabbing the microphone from him.
Gina:
Everybody, put your hands to the sky
EJ:
Hands to the sky!
Ashlyn then took the microphone.
Ashlyn:
Buckle up, we're gonna take you, take you high
Ashlyn handed the microphone back to Val and they all sat back down, participating in the clapping and pounding on the benches.
All:
Show me, show me, show me, show me, show what ya got
C'mon, c'mon, c'mon, c'mon, ready or not
La-la-la-la-la-la, let me see how you bop
Val then gave the microphone to Jet. "Okay, now. Are you ready? One, two...One, two, three, four."
Jet:
Show stoppin' when I step in the place
Before it's done, you're gonna beg me to stay
Get on board, c'mon, let's ride the wave
He then handed the microphone to his sister.
Maddox:
Let's go, let's go, we just do what we do
Watch me break and pop, I'll pass it to you
You wanna rock like us 'cause we're never second place
She then handed the microphone back to Val.
All:
Show me, show me, show me, show me, show what ya got
C'mon, c'mon, c'mon, c'mon, ready or not
La-la-la-la-la-la, let me see how you bop
It's on, it's on, it's on
'Cause we, 'cause we, 'cause when we rock, we let it rock
Rock it, rock it, rock it, rock it, dance 'til we drop
It's on, it's on, it's on
Jet:
It's onnnn
"Okay, now. Are you ready?" Ricky asked in the second microphone.
"One, two...One, two, three," Marcus counted down before he handed Jet the other microphone, sending him a quick smile.
Jet:
Th-th-there, there, there is no competition
That's why we in the number one position
That crew can't hang with us
Man, we too dangerous
Maddox:
Ah, ah, ain't got the style or the stamina
Ricky and Ashlyn:
Just doin' our thing, get hooked on our swing
Carlos and Kourtney:
Rockin' the place, droppin' the bass
EJ and Nadia:
Makin' everyone sing
Jet and Maddox:
Uh-huh, yeah, we make the bell ring
Nadia then to the microphone from Val a little too forcefully, making the blonde stumble a bit.
Nadia:
It's on, it's on
Oooh, whoaa
It's onnn
Dakota quickly took this chance to take the microphone from Jet, walking over to Nadia quickly.
Dakota:
It's on, it's on, it's on
He sang as the two circle around each other, which definitely didn't go unnoticed by EJ.
Nadia:
It's on, it's on, it's on, it's on
Dakota:
It's on, it's on
Nadia:
It's on
All:
Show me, show me, show me, show me, show what ya got
C'mon, c'mon, c'mon, c'mon, ready or not (Ready or not)
La-la-la-la-la-la, let me see how you bop
It's on, it's on, it's on
Get crazy, crazy, crazy, take it over the top (Over the top)
'Cause we, 'cause we, 'cause when we rock, we let it rock
Rock it, rock it, rock it, rock it, dance 'til we drop
It's on, it's on, it's on
Jet:
It's onnnn
Jet finished the song out, making them all shout and clap excitedly since they all did great. "America, I am so glad that missing camper got rescued 'cause he just caused the Yellow Team to win Color War!" Corbin announced, making the Yellow Team cheer and jump up and down.
They lifted Jet up as he grabbed the paddle, a huge smile on his face. "Great job, Jet," Marcus said with a large smile.
"Thanks, Marcus," Jet replied, sending him a nod. Marcus blushed in return, quickly turning away so the boy didn't see him.
"I can't believe they won. I mean, our duet thing was top notch," Dakota said, walking over to Nadia.
"I know, right? Honestly, for a guy that hasn't done a musical before, you're pretty good at singing," Nadia complimented.
Dakota tried to hide his blush. "Really? I thought I was just decent."
She shrugged. "You're pretty good."
"Thanks."
Nadia then looked over to see Gina walk away from Ricky, who seemed to be admiring her secretly. "I gotta go talk to someone, okay? I'll see you later."
"Yeah. Yeah, bye."
Nadia made her way over to Ricky and nudged him, making him gasp in shock. "Whoa, you scared me."
"I can see that," she said. "I can also see that you're totally crushing on Gina."
"What? N-No, I'm not crushing on — on Gina," Ricky denied, being his voice to a whisper.
"Oh, really? You're not? So then you wouldn't mind if I just told her as a joke then," Nadia teased, pretending to walk in Gina's direction.
Ricky quickly grabbed her arm. "Okay, okay, stop. Yes...I like her. Okay? There," he admitted, making Nadia smirk. "Is it really that obvious?"
"Very. I don't think she knows, yet, though so you're good," Nadia told him and he sighed in relief. "I think I can help you, though."
"How are you supposed to do that?" Ricky asked, furrowing his brows in confusion.
"Wasn't I the one that got you back with Nini?" Nadia recalled, raising her eyebrows.
Ricky seemed to think about it for a moment. "Okay, yeah, you did. But isn't it, like, girl code not to date your friend's ex?"
"Yeah. But I don't really think Nini is like that. Especially since she's probably about to be a superstar and is gonna have a million guys pining over her," Nadia pointed out and he shrugged and nodded. "Look, I'll help you as long as you help me with something."
"This seems very Nadia 1.0..." Ricky trailed off suspiciously.
"Trust me, it's not."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ricky slowly led EJ into The Cabin, covering his eyes with his hand. "Okay, keep going."
"This better be good, Bowen," EJ spoke as he continued to lead him to where Nadia was sat in a leftover canoe. But this time, it was designed to look kind of like the scene from The Little Mermaid.
Ricky then uncovered EJ's eyes, revealing the sight in front of him. "There's room for one more," Nadia said.
EJ smiled down at her, completely in awe. "I think she means you, dude," Ricky nudged him since EJ was just staring at her.
EJ then walked over for canoe and Nadia held out her hand, helping him inside as she laughed. "Tight squeeze," EJ commented.
"Okay. Think I'm gonna go," Ricky said awkwardly, not wanting to ruin the moment.
"Wait, Ricky. Thanks for helping with this. I got you covered," Nadia told him.
Ricky nodded with a grin before he walked out. "Got him covered with what?" EJ curiously asked.
"Let's just say he has eyes for someone that I'm close with," Nadia told him ominously.
"It's Gina, isn't it?" EJ guessed and Nadia shrugged, but her laughing gave it away. "So, what's all this?"
"So, I was kind of hoping we'd spend the whole day together."
"I know."
"And I was kind of hoping we'd have a win after that very weird rehearsal..."
"Nadia, I know."
"But I'm gonna go for a Hail Mary here. EJ...will you be my date to the camp prom?" Nadia asked, holding up a tacky paddle that read, "Canoe be my date to prom?" Nadia didn't want to do it, but it was Ricky's idea.
"Wait, that's what this is?" EJ questioned in surprise.
"That's what this is," Nadia confirmed.
"Oh, man. I really wish I could, but there's a rule. No dates allowed to the prom. It's a Shallow Lake tradition so nobody's feelings can get hurt," EJ revealed.
Nadia's smile fell. "Oh. But we're dating, so..." she trailed off, not knowing what to say to that.
"Yeah, I know, but if we show up as dates, then everyone else is gonna wanna do that and whoever doesn't have a date is—"
"Gonna get their feelings hurt, yeah," Nadia finished for him, looking down awkwardly.
"Yeah. But hey, look maybe we could just sit here and you know, paddle away till the fireworks go off," he joked, taking the paddle and pretending to use it. "I have a few minutes before I have to get back to work."
"The fireworks, is that a metaphor, or...?"
"No, yeah, there's real fireworks coming. It's a Color War tradition," EJ told her, pointing at the window. They waited for them to start, but they weren't. "Any minute now."
They both waited awkwardly in silence for the fireworks to start. But they never did until the two parted ways so EJ could head back to work.
