Chapter Six

Sorry, mostly Xiao/Zhongli family ramblings as opposed to actual plot.

Scaramouche found it as no surprise that Mr. Zhongli's son, Xiao, was quiet and dare he say timid. Xiao was the youngest of four children, with three successful alpha older sisters, the short omega was most certainly babied without a doubt. Mr. Zhongli's wife, Guizhong, was an omegan lawyer and activist who worked to make the world a better place for omegas like Scara and Xiao. She and Mr. Zhongli had four children, as mentioned.

The oldest, Ganyu, worked on the city council. She worked hard and was out most of the time with her girlfriend and coworker, Keqing. Ganyu was twenty four, followed closely after by her sister Yanfei, who was twenty two. Yanfei was attending Adepti University to get her degree in law, though she was a diligent young lady who divided most of her time between classes at the university and helping Guizhong out at her firm. After Yanfei came Hu Tao, who, at nineteen became a funeral parlor director after an... untimely accident befell the previous director. Hu Tao, like her older sisters, was a graduate of Liyue Prep.

Xiao was Xiao. He didn't know what he wanted to do yet after school. He considered attending Adepti like Ganyu and Yanfei did, but the acceptance process was grueling... not to mention as an omega he had severely reduced chances of acceptance. He knew his parents only expected him to follow his dreams and do his best, but with three overachieving, incredibly successful, alpha sisters, he felt the unspoken pressure to do well like them.

Scara's birthday had come and gone, and exam season had brushed by, along with the winter holidays. It was January now, the start of the second semester. Scara was still planning on trying to get into Fatui, while Gorou had already been accepted to Watatsumi State in the coming fall. Miko was proud of Gorou, as was Scara, but he was going to be sad- even if he'd never admit it- to see his brother going all the way to Inazuma. Well, he'd be leaving too, if he got into Fatui, since it was all the way in Snezhnaya, but it still wasn't set in stone... especially now with his late-blooming curse. But Gorou gave him a bit of hope. After all, he was an omega who'd been accepted to Watatsumi State on a full athletic scholarship.

He wondered how Gorou was going to handle leaving the Confession Column. Everyone knew Ms. Hina was a senior, and almost everyone was sad to see 'her' go, especially Arataki Itto, Ms. Hina's number one fan by a long shot. To be completely honest, Gorou wondered if it was Itto that left Gorou not wanting to reveal his identity as Ms. Hina. Itto was one of the loudest Alphas on campus, and unlike most, he didn't have too much upstairs to back himself up.

Gorou sat on the couch in Miko's classroom, typing up the latest issue on his laptop. Razor was laid out on the floor, his arms stretched above him to look at his latest catches on the camera. Bennett and Fischl each sat with a test draft and a colored pen, editing what they could find in the issue before sending it back to Xingqiu for revisions. Albedo sat at a desk, sketching up some ideas for the latest stories.

Scara still didn't know why he hung around the journalism club. After all, if he wanted a purely omega club for support, the school had clubs that suited those needs. Maybe he just liked being around his Mama and Gorou, despite the fact that he'd never admit it.

He'd been on suppressants for the past three months and had successfully managed to block off two heats so far, and of course he'd had the issue of not experiencing enough cycles to recognize another cycle starting to brew. The other omegas noticed earlier than him, Chongyun being the first to act. He picked up his alpha's backpack and handed it to him, nudging Xingqiu out the door with a rushed apology before coming back over to Scara.

Scara had laid down against the cool flooring in an attempt to break his feverish spike in temperature. Gorou had slipped down, allowing his brother to rest his head in his lap. Miko wasn't in the classroom, having left to go to a meeting on the other side of the campus. In her defense, she was leaving a group of incredibly mature and responsible seniors alone for a maximum of two or three hours. What could go wrong?

Chongyun ruffled through his backpack, looking for his own omega kit. "Here, I should have some blockers you could take. It's pretty early on, so maybe you could take a reversal suppressant to push your heat back another couple of weeks, since y'know... we have that big science project due soon."

"I've probably got some in my bag." Albedo offered, picking a small bottle out of his bag and walking over. "Here, take this. Don't worry, you're alright. Suppressants fail sometimes, and it can be hard to dose as a new omega sometimes."

Scaramouche nodded with a grateful nod, feeling much better after taking the medicine the other omegas offered him. He understood why most omegas kept their own close, as a cluster would naturally protect themselves. He sat up, leaning on Gorou tiredly. He figured he'd wait a little while for the meds to fully take effect before attempting to head back to his dorm in a preheat state.
