Chapter 21:: Safe

Author's POV:

You stared at the telephone booth informed of you. If you decided to run away, your life would change. But a sudden thought occurred to you. Your foot was hurting right now, you looked down and sighed. Why did you have to run forgetting you had an injured foot?

Jo had left you in that trunk trusting that you wouldn't run away. Maybe he didn't even realize that he ended up trusting you.
"He's really dumb." You mumbled, a soft chuckle escaping your lips. But the knot of anxiousness in your stomach was increasing. You gulped staring in front of you.

You had two choices.

To keep the trust of the men who kidnapped you and stay for 2 more months... or to escape this place.

You wanted to escape, always. Right now, maybe by an accident, this chance was open for you. A part of you felt guilty. As much as you disliked being in that house, you lived with those people for 24 days now. Though the moments weren't pleasant, somehow, you got to know them. They were better than lots of other people. Maybe not the best, but better than the others in that field. If you betrayed them, what would happen?

There was no purpose for you to stay. But you felt like a sense of loyalty was poking you. As if you owed them. You tried to shrug off any 'extra nice' thoughts and walked inside. There was a coin that fell on the ground near the booth. Maybe someone dropped it by accident while leaving. You held the coin tightly before gulping. Putting it in, you took the telephone and put it near your ear, typing in the numbers.

You typed 2 numbers and stopped. You were hesitating.
"What if I get caught instead? It'd be worse." You said to yourself. A part of you wanted to end this here but another part of you felt scared. It'd be way worse if he caught you. Jo would be in huge trouble as well. You were the one who fooled him into this and if his mistake caused this, he'd be good as dead.
"He wouldn't kill him... would he?" You asked yourself, staring at the numbers.

Just a few dials and you'd be home.

You were about to press another number but flinched hearing a loud gunshot. Your eyes widened as you stared at the rollercoaster. People near that area were screaming in fear and running away.
"Guns? Wasn't the fight in a forest...?" You asked yourself, gulping. Quickly getting out of the telephone booth, you tried to see what was happening in that area as you felt someone push you really hard, causing you to fall down.

You groaned in pain and looked behind to see a tall figure wearing a cap, running near the forest. It looked like Joel, was it him?
A shiver ran down your spine as you noticed a few other men running behind him. Taehyung and Jo were also there. You got up and walked near, gasping.
"I need to hide." You whispered and ran in the other direction, outside the amusement park. You glanced at the telephone booth, a part of you feeling like it was breaking. The chance was going away. But another gunshot told you it wasn't the time to think about escaping. It was about surviving.

Among the crowd, you somehow went outside, about to enter the trunk of the car which was parked at a corner. There were no people around. Everyone was running in the other direction. You opened the trunk, about to get in but your heart dropped to your stomach when you heard a familiar voice,

"Oh, nice seeing you here, gorgeous."

Joel. It was his voice.

You immediately turned around, your face horrified. He noticed the expression and chuckled darkly, walking towards you. You gulped and took a few steps back, speaking, "How... are you-"
"Here? I tricked your lover and those minions of his. Well, I must say, he doesn't leave his men alone to die. He fights with them... he's fun. I was going to join in but when I saw you roaming around... I realized, there are many other ways to destroy him... other than a war."

He noticed your confused yet scared expression and spoke, "You're his lover... if he sees his minions die today, along with you. How would he feel?"

"W-What?!" You gasped, gulping. He was now inches away from you, leaning closer. You felt bad, unsafe. His scent was making you feel insecure. It didn't feel good at all. You wanted to escape him. A part of you wanted Taehyung to show up at this moment. He wouldn't let him do anything to you at least. Even though he'd be the one to kill you after knowing you sneaked in, right now, he'd be the one to save you from him. Like that day.

"No..." You mumbled as he smirked saying, "Well... yes. Why not?"
"Don't come c-closer.."
You said, your voice sounding pretty protective. He smirked and said, "You're defenceless. I wonder why he'd leave his weak and fragile chick alone. Who brings lovers on a mission? He's pretty... strange." Joel smirked as his fingers lightly traced your jaw. You tried to shove his hand away but he gripped them making you wince. His hold was so rash. Even worse than how Taehyung once did in anger. Your bones would crack if he didn't leave them right now.

You were whimpering in pain as he said, "Let's take you with us. It'll be interesting."
"No-"
You were talking but stopped when you heard a loud noise. You looked behind Joel to see Jo standing there with his guns pointed at Joel. Joel looked behind and laughed saying, "Minion. How did you come here?!"
"L-Leave me!"
You whimpered but his grip tightened making a tear escape your eyes, it was hurting so bad. You tried to free yourself but he twisted your wrist making you cry in pain.
"S-Stop... p-ple.. p-please!" You coughed out, trying to free yourself but he seemed to be enjoying your pain.

"You bastard! Leave!" Jo spoke, pointing his gun at him. One of Joel's hands gripped your wrists as you were crying while another one was pointing a gun at Jo.
"Where's the boss of yours? Is he dead? You're so stupid... do you think I wouldn't know you're here to spy on me and attack afterwards? We've been enemies forever. I know the strategies of you f*cking assholes!" Joel spoke.

But everyone froze on the spot as they heard a familiar deep voice, "Didn't you hear her? Leave her hand."
His voice was stern. It was so deadly, so cold. You never heard him speak in that way. No matter how cold and stern he was with you at times, this exceeded it.
Jo immediately looked at Taehyung, he seemed a little surprised too. Joel smirked and said, "Why? Does it hurt to see your lover here?"
"Leave her, Joel."

"I'm afraid I won't! Let her wrists burst as I grip her harder. What a unique death!" Joel laughed as you cried in pain. The only defense you had in mind was kicking him right where he deserved to but at the moment, you weren't in the position to do so. Life played unfair.

Taehyung stared at him before saying, "If you don't leave, I'll shoot."
"I'm doing it before you could!"
Joel spoke and in a moment, you let out an 'Ahh!' hearing a loud gunshot. He shot toward Taehyung but thankfully, Taehyung dodged it. He immediately shot towards Joel but he dodged it while pushing you against the car, making you whimper. Taehyung looked at you, his eyes turning darker as he kept shooting Joel. Jo was also shooting in the same direction but a few men entered the area. They were Joel's men.

Taehyung shot a few of them, dodging the gunshots himself as you were blinking away your tears. You were so shocked, you hated everything in here. Taehyung was near Joel but his steps halted as Joel held you in front of him, placing a gun on your head as he started laughing loudly.
"One more step and she's dead!" Joel spoke, laughing loudly. Your eyes were shut in fear as you felt Joel's hand trance your waist. Taehyung glared at him and said, "Don't touch her."
"Oh, really? I was thinking of doing more than that when I get her into my basement. How much fun would it be...? After killing you."
"You'll never be able to do any of that. I'll kill you."
Taehyung spoke.

Joel smirked and nodded, gripping your waist as you yelped. You opened your eyes, looking at Taehyung who seemed to be killing Joel with his eyes. His eyes fell on your blue ones.
'Save me this one. I swear I will receive any punishment but please save me from here!'

He saw your mouth moving. You were requesting him to save your life.

His jaw hardened as he walked towards Joel who frowned, cocking the gun. You gulped as Taehyung looked at Jo who nodded. Before Joel could shoot you, he felt a sharp pain in his leg. Jo shot him from afar. Taehyung shot his arm as his grip on you loosened. He held the car for support, still gripping your hands. You tried to move away but he pulled you saying, "I'll kill her!"
"I'll kill you first."
Taehyung shot him once again and he fell to the ground. You immediately ran towards Taehyung who was shooting another guy near Joel.  But wait, was there still a chance to kick that asshole? Never mind, what if he caught you again? Better off running for now. You could take revenge later on.

A lot of Joel's men were already dead, and some more were coming. But Taehyung was also armed well. Everyone was fighting. As long as Joel was captured, that's all they needed.

Taehyung looked at you to see you crying while running towards him. You were terrified, honestly. You needed to lean somewhere, even if for just a moment. Somewhere you'd feel safe and secure. And there was only one person in front of you, who you could run to at the moment. Among all the unfamiliar and sinister faces, there was one bad face which was better than all. The one which you made you feel known and safe. Impossible—but true.

Taehyung's body stiffened as he felt your arms wrapped around his torso, your head buried in his chest. You were crying loudly.
"I d-didn't... d-die!" You cried out. You could feel him gulping as he lowly whispered, "Digging up your own grave."
You cried even louder, your grip on him tightening as you heard the gunshots. You felt two hands around your ears, saving them from the noise. But amidst all that, you heard him speak,

"You won't die. I told you I'd protect you."

You never believed him when he said that. Never once. But he did that. He did what he always said, something you never believed. He was the one who saved your life. The one who you believed was the biggest threat to your life was also the biggest saviour of your life.

You felt one of his hands move away as a gunshot was heard near your ear, making you flinch a little. It was a fight.
He didn't push you away, he just pulled away a bit and said, "Sit behind the car. Do not come out. You're safe as long as I'm here."

You did as he said. You were behind the car, hugging your knees while crying as the fight went on. A few moments passed by as the gunshots and groans of pain almost stopped. But your eyes widened as you heard a siren.

The police were here.
