Chapter 18:: Cold
Author's POV:
"Woah... these all people look so scary." You said, staring at the portraits in front of you. Well, for the first time during your 3 month stay in this mansion, you randomly ended up in a beautiful and luxurious room with bookshelves and a table. The walls of the room were covered in portraits of people.
"This must be from the 1800s..." You said and stared at it as a frown appeared on your face seeing the date—15.09.1850
"That's such a long time ago, oh my god." You gasped as you continued checking out more portraits. Portraits from the 1800s, 1900s, and 2000s.
They all looked similar, handsome, manly... and evil.
"Must be some generation portrait hmm..." You said to yourself.
You noticed a familiar face as a small frown appeared on your face. He looked so much like someone you knew—your kidnapper, Kim Taehyung.
"Oh... I knew it." You said and scoffed. Every picture was probably one of his antecedents.
You were looking around when a deep voice echoed in the room making your muscles jump.
"Sneaking in?" Cold and deep. Gosh, he was here again.
You turned around with wide eyes and a huge frown plastered on your face as the 6 feet tall figure walked towards you, running his hand through his raven hair once before he tucked them in his pocket.
His head tilted, a brow arched as he stared at you whose frown did not disappear.
"Sneaking in? Why would I need to? I just came here randomly, exploring." You emphasized the last word as you saw a muscle in his jaw jumping. He looked at the portraits behind you and said, "There are no secret tunnels in the rooms for you to escape."
"You wouldn't know if there were any." You said. A slight frown appeared on his face.
"This huge-ass house might have 500 secret rooms you have no idea about. You stay at home 2 hours a day, how would you possibly know?" You spoke, scoffing. For a moment, you looked at him muttering something. Something like 'home', just for a second until he looked at his wristwatch and said, "I've been in this house for 3 hours 5 minutes and 29 seconds now."
You just stared at him, your lips pressed. He looked at the blue in your eyes before looking at his watch again.
"You're really annoying." You said in an irritated tone before turning around. He nodded and said, "Get out of this room before 9 pm. If the doors are locked by the maids, you have to be stuck until 10 am tomorrow."
"What?" You asked in disbelief as his figure which was leaving the room stopped for a second. You heard his deep voice again, "Exactly what you heard."
And he left. You tilted your head, staring outside the room.
"Why did he come inside? Without any reason? That was definitely to annoy me!" You rolled your eyes and glared at the table near you.
2 months and 9 days. That was the time left until you went back home.
After coming to Seoul a few days ago, Taehyung and you clashed a lot. You didn't just glare at him but you bickered with him. The intense grudge, and hate somehow faded. You decided to not be so hateful towards them. Jo also explained to you every day why hating them wouldn't be nice for you either. He explained that they were open for you, to protect you, not harm you.
You had millions of questions and doubts. Why were you kidnapped? If they were protecting you, then why kidnap you? Why make you do weird stuff you had no idea about?
And most importantly, how did a mafia, like Taehyung know your uncle, Tzuyu's father? How was he involved with them? Everything was a question, something you had no idea about. The only thing you managed to get after overhearing secretly in parties and that lounge, and sometimes... in the house was that this all revolved around a gold mine.
"Azure.." You mumbled while munching the chocolate chips, sitting on the bed as she meowed.
"From the looks of it, I might be safe here, right?" You asked her. She meowed again as you nodded, humming. As if you understood her.
"But you know what... I'm kind of wondering. What if I get killed after they accomplish whatever gold mine mission they are at? Am I a pawn for some gold mine?"
She meowed for some more time as you sighed and looked at her saying, "I wonder... it's July right now. I might go home during September. I honestly can't wait to go back."
"But I'll miss you... you're the only one I'd ever miss. Maybe... I can kidnap you with me to get back at that petty owner of yours as well." You said. She meowed for some time. It seemed like a protest.
"Do you not wanna go with me? What's so good about here?" You asked. She didn't answer, just meowed to herself before snuggling into the pillow of her little bed.
"Now you're sleeping?" You asked, sighing. Smiling, you patted her head before getting up. You walked out of your room to see the big clock displaying the time— 10:15 pm.
"Boring." You mumbled before sitting on the couch in the living room, watching TV. For the past few days, you went out of your room a little more. More like— you were tired of sitting in that 4 walled bedroom. Not exactly like it was 4 walled, it was big but— not the point.
Being in a bedroom was boring. You weren't even crying all day like before.
Somehow, you kind of got used to this. The food was nice, and the house was nice. But you missed the warmth of your home, with Tzuyu and Uncle Lee. The smell of freshly baked choco-chip cookies by Tzuyu was the best. The memories flashed in your mind just like an incident of yesterday. You missed those drunken nights with Tzuyu where you both would drink the night away and do the craziest shit just to be embarrassed the next morning. You missed everything— your smile, your laugh, the happy you.
The background noise of the TV reached your ears very faintly. You were too focused on your thoughts to notice the show running on the TV. But as soon as you heard a loud glass shattering from the kitchen, you jolted up. Looking in the direction of the kitchen, you frown. Slowly getting up, you walked near but stopped seeing Taehyugn entering the place with Jo.
You stood near, peeking inside as you noticed a huge mess. Pieces of glass were scattered here and there as a maid stood there, completely horrified. You gulped seeing the mortified expression of the others.
"What did you do?" Jo asked normally as the maid stuttered, "I... I'm s-so sorry! P-Please don't... k-kill me- I-"
"Just clean it up. And do not repeat mistakes." You heard Taehyung say. He sounded so cold and deep. But not threatening. He wasn't threatening at all.
You looked at the maid who seemed to be in relief but was still scared. Another one of the maids stood beside her apologising on her behalf and claiming that she was new. No wonder she was shivering. You felt bad for her.
'He could've been nicer. But not like he would be.' You scoffed silently before mindlessly taking a step around but your eyes widened and a painful squeal left your lips as you felt a piercing pain in your foot.
You stepped on a piece of glass.
"What the-" Jo almost cursed as you felt a considerable figure walking behind you until it was in front of you, with a frown.
"What are you doing here?" Taehyung asked, his voice deep and cold again. Gosh, could he ever sound pleasant? Not like his cold deep voice was unpleasant but no— not pleasant either— never pleasant.
"Nothing, move." You gulped. You were sweating, looking at him with miserable eyes. He looked at your toe as you noticed his creased forehead. His lips slightly quivered. He was about to say something but didn't.
"Come." He said, forwarding his hand. You stared at his hands with disgust saying, "Hold your hands? Go to hell."
—Time skip
Well, here you were, after dragging and forcing... sitting on the living room couch while groaning in pain.
"Why did you force me here? That's literally-" You were speaking as he shut you up saying, "It'd be really nice if you walked with that glass shard in your toe without telling anyone as it would go in deeper until you basically had a foot infection and lose your ability to walk ever again."
You went quiet. He was so rude, so mean.
"I can do it myself." You snatched the tweezers from him as he raised a brow, nodding. He was standing near you as you glared at him before trying to take the glass shard out. Thankfully it wasn't too big and it only pinched inside a bit near your big toe.
You were hesitating so much, hissing and groaning again and again. It was hurting a lot.
"Should I do it?" Jo asked as you looked at him, hesitating.
"Don't worry! I am good with small wounds. I only mess up with big ones... once I tried to disinfect Mr Kim's gunshot but instead, he got an infection which lasted for 4 months... gosh, it was hard. But no worries! I'm very good with minor injuries."
You just stared at the bald-headed guy. You were mortified. You shook your head before trying again.
Taehyung crouched down and stared at you saying, "Let me."
"No." You said but did anyone care? No.
Just a few seconds later, Taehyung was crouched down, taking out the glass shard. And he succeeded. After that, he disinfected the wound to which your response was loud yelling and complaining. You even cursed him twice. He wrapped a bandage around your foot and looked at it. You just stared at him with a frown. Jo got a call and he left the room. The living room was really quiet, it was so quiet that you could hear Taehyung's breathing.
"What's this behaviour?! Why are you trying to help me?!" You spoke, rolling your eyes. You noticed him not paying attention to you. He just continued cleaning up the mess as he looked up, staring into the blue in your eyes.
"It's for no good reason like you're wondering. Do not assume anything." His voice was cold as you frowned. He probably didn't want to sound as rude as he did, it was just his voice.
"Assume? About you? It's obvious enough you're a douche." You rolled your eyes as he sighed before walking away. You just frowned at his figure before looking at Jo who looked at you mouthing, 'He's not that mean, I told you.'
You just rolled your eyes, looking away. You weren't buying it. You would believe anything but that.
