"C'mon Astrid, it's time for lunch. Take a break, you can finish the work after." Blaire sounded more excited about lunch than usual. I ran my eyes over her, studying her body language and facial expressions. I laughed to myself.
"Do you have something to tell me?" I asked, putting the work aside.
"Gio was right. Nothing goes past you," I raised an eyebrow at her attempt to change the subject. "Fine, but I'm not telling you. You have to come."
I followed behind her curiously to the cafeteria. We met a blonde haired guy who smiled when he saw us. More so, when he saw Blaire. They looked so cute together. Wait, are they together?
"Astrid, this is Noah, my fiance," she told me and I beamed at the way they looked at each other with so much love. I wish I could have that someday. My eyes glanced down at the ring on her finger. I found it beautiful the way it glimmered as the sun hit it.
"Hi, nice to meet you. Blaire has told me so much about you," he said truthfully.
"It's really nice to meet you. I wish I could say she told me about you but I didn't even know you existed until now," I replied honestly, in a playful tone.
"That's fine. She's a sucker for surprises anyway," he said, staring at her, causing her to blush.
"Wait, is this even approved by HR?" I asked, knowing well that relationships in a work environment are usually frowned upon.
"Not really but as long as it doesn't affect how we do our jobs then there's no problem. Since it's an engagement then after the wedding we are advised to sign a form and send it to HR," she explained and I nodded in understanding. It seemed fair.
"What does Mr. Pierce say about him? Does he even know?" I asked Blaire as soon as we ordered lunch and sat down.
"He surprisingly approved," she said and when she saw my confused face she continued. "Every time I would introduce any of my boyfriends to him, at one glance he would assume they were not good for me. He was right about all of them though."
I nodded and turned to Noah. "How long have you worked here?"
"Three years."
"Are the rumors about his short temper true?" I asked and he chuckled lowly.
"As true as they come. But it's only when it comes to work not being done properly and when he doesn't get his morning and evening coffee." My ears perk up at one part of the sentence.
"Evening coffee?" I asked and they looked at me with raised eyebrows.
"You don't get him his evening coffee?" Blaire asked.
"He drinks 3-4 cups of coffee a day. It's a wonder how his teeth are still so perfectly white," Noah added.
"I didn't know that. Damn it, this lunch has to be cut short then." I got up and rushed to get his coffee and asked the cook to make something special for him. I added lunch in hopes that he wouldn't get angry at me for not knowing about his usual coffee intakes.
I almost knocked but then I remembered his instructions yesterday.
"Sir, your coffee and lunch," I said as soon as I entered. He looked at me slightly confused.
"You were informed that I took lunch here?"
"No, I just thought you should eat something and not go the whole day on an empty stomach," I told the partial truth.
"Is that so?" He rhetorically asked, getting up from behind his desk and stopping a good distance away. My mind flashed to what happened this morning.
"Why did you not tell me about the amount of times you drink coffee a day?" I asked. I knew I was taking a risk asking but I needed to be informed of certain things, in order to do my job properly.
"It's part of your job to know your boss without him telling you." How was I supposed to know anything about him without asking, especially when it can't be found on the Web? Ignoring his 'logic', I took a step forward to hand him his lunch and coffee.
Taking it from my hands, our fingers brushed against one another. I pushed away the tingles I felt from the touch to the back of my head and took a step back. I nodded and left. What the hell is happening to me? I just met the man and he's my boss.
My really sexy boss that I would love to have pound into m—. No. He was my boss. I shouldn't be thinking like this. I have standards. I was raised in a respectable household by wonderful parents. If they knew I was fantasizing about my boss, they would kill me and him. I need to calm down and act professional. I can't have my attraction blindside me from doing my job.
Out of nowhere, Blaire shows up to my cubicle with a styrofoam box in her hand. Blaire, you are my lifesaver. She places the box on the side of my desk. "Thanks so much, Blaire. I owe you one."
She laughs, "It's Gio you owe on this one, girlie." In shock, my eyes widened, not believing what I was hearing.
She had to be joking. Giovanni Pierce, my boss, sent me lunch. I would never think he would take the time to do such a gesture. Then again, I didn't think he would take time out of his day to treat me to lunch with the motive of distracting me from what happened that day with Mr. Ramirez and Mr. Harris.
"Don't look so surprised, Astrid. I think we've both established that you're a special one." She giggled and strides away.
My mind swirled with emotions thinking back on what she meant by that. I'm sure she didn't mean what I thought she meant. She probably meant that I meant more to him than his other assistants.
Why? I had no idea. I'll figure that out along the way.
"Thank you for the lunch, Mr. Pierce." I said in a seductive voice.
"You're welcome, Astrid."
