Chapter 23
A small giggle echoes around the dressing room as I gently blend in the foundation for one of the models working today, a bright smile on my lips. My eyes focusing on the face of the model as I blend the foundation into the models skin, making sure that she has full coverage before grabbing the highlighter and brushing the makeup brush over her cheeks making sure that her cheeks covered with the highlighter before grabbing lipstick. The model puckering her lips as I gently brush the lip liner around the edge of her lips before brushing the lipstick over the flesh of her lips. Perfect.
Clearing my throat, I pull away and hand her the lipstick and lipliner I had used on her, sending her a reassuring smile as she looks up at me before looking at her reflection in the mirror. The girl humming in faint confirmation, indirectly telling me that she's happy with it, before pushing herself off her seat and leaving the dressing room for the photo shoot she has to attend to. A smile plays on my lips as I begin to pack up, placing the palettes back into the cabinet and wiping down the counter to make sure there's no powder left.
The smile on my lips never leaving.
Laying on my wrist gently, jingling with every move I make, is my bracelet. My charms tinkling against one another as I wipe down the sides. My new two charms that are the rare charms of Keigo's collection shimmering in the artificial light. The bracelet couldn't help but make me smile every time I looked at it. My insides would start fluttering and a giggle would leave my lips. I felt like a child at Christmas every time I looked at it.
The date the other night still stayed fresh in my mind. I don't know why but I couldn't stop the smile stretching across my lips. I couldn't forget it. The fun we had. The things we spoke about. The gifts. The food. My little surprise. The little revelation we had. It all made that night amazing. My first date ever and it was one of the best dates I've had. The date was amazing. Keigo and I flew home, shared a quick hug and peck on the cheek before separating.
Not before Amai gave him another earful. She wouldn't let Keigo leave until he knew how she really felt about him. Sure, she was over the moon that my bracelet was returned but she still decked the winged male.
Even thinking about Keigo now makes a giggle leave my lips. My stomach turning in knots as the butterflies flutter around. I could feel my cheeks slightly warming up as I place everything in its place. Having his wings wrapped around me made me feel at home, made me feel safe. I couldn't believe it. How the date never left my mind. How I couldn't stop thinking about our date.
I couldn't wait for our next one!
Leaving the dressing room, I head down the hallway and smile gently toward some of my co workers as I head toward the break room. My fingers delicately fiddling with the charms of my bracelet as I walk into our break room and grab the kettle filling it with water, turning it on with a small hum. A smile on my lips as I look at my charms, looking toward the rose charm that my father had put on there (it used to be my grandmothers favourite flower).
Each charm represented someone close to me. The rose for my grandmother. Another flower, peonies, to signify my mother. A star to represent Amai. A halo and a pair of wings to represent my father. I had my own charm, my birthstone. Now having Keigo's charms that he bought too. Hopefully, when I have children or nieces and nephews I can add charms onto it too.
As the kettle dings, I pour the hot water into my noodle cup, humming gently as I mix the noodles with the water and sit down on the bright red couches. A smile on my lips as I check my phone, giggling when I notice that Keigo changed my lock screen. It wasn't a picture of Angel anymore (which was now my home screen).
It was a selfie of the two of us that we took.
Keigo was the one that must have took it considering he was at the front of the photo. The male doing a peace sign toward the camera while I was beside him smiling happily with my head on his shoulder, pursing my lips as I was holding a peace sign too. He had a bright smile on his lips too with his arm around me. The pair of us having a great time.
However, before I could unlock my phone, someone decides to stomp their heels on the floor and sits down opposite me. Clearing my throat, I place my phone down and look toward the person opposite me, arching a brow toward Dahlia who crosses her arms over her chest and glares toward me.
Well that's not good.
Her red eyes full of something that wasn't happiness, the girl wasn't impressed. She huffs to herself, the girl refusing to start the conversation making me shrug to myself and continue eating my meal. Ignoring her huffs, I wolf down my food and then place my ramen cup in the recycling bin before arching a brow as Dahlia watches my every move.
"Take a picture Dahlia, it'll last longer," I hum, crossing my arms over my chest as I look toward her, the girl rolling her eyes. To humour her little tantrum, I decide to prod further. If she thought it was okay to look at me like that then why should I treat her like a decent human being? I know how to deal with people like this after all, "What's got your panties in a twist? You made out with another model and lost more of your pay check?"
"Excuse me?" Dahlia asks with wide eyes staring at me in horror as I sit down opposite her, folding my legs over one another with a small hum, "No! None of that happened! It's just... ugh... I got dumped,"
"And that's my problem because...?" I ask trailing with a small hum, watching as she glares toward me, "Dahlia, I haven't done anything wrong so stop looking at me like that before I talk to your supervisor about your behaviour,"
"You're such a snitch!" She growls, glaring toward me making me roll my eyes with a small laugh, "You must have been a bitch in high school,"
"Dahlia, what's going on?" I ask, glaring toward her as she rolls her eyes and scoffs like it's my fault that she's in a mood, "If there's not a problem, why are you being like this?"
"I got dumped by Hawks!" She complains crossing her arms as she slumps into the couch like an angry toddler, making me arch my brow, "I was gonna tell you last week! He dumped me! So I was going to ask you if you could mess up his makeup on his next shoot,"
"What are you? Twelve? I'm not sacrificing my career for your petty little revenge game, besides, Hawks can do what he wants," I hum, pushing myself to my feet rolling my eyes as I begin to leave the break room, Dahlia chasing after me making me groan, "I'm not helping you Dahlia, if he broke up with you it was probably for a pretty good reason,"
"Why are you defending him? I thought we were friends?" She asks chasing after me making me roll my eyes and shake my head, clenching my hands into fists as I dig my nails into my palms, "It's just a job, not like it's the end of the world,"
"I said no, Dahlia, take it or leave it," I hum halting in my tracks and look toward her narrowing my eyes, "We're not friends either, we're just colleagues,"
"Ugh! Fine!" Dahlia whines, acting like a toddler as she crosses her arms over her chest, "Can't believe I wasted my pay check on that bastard..."
"That's your problem, not mine," I hum, grabbing my coat from the rack and placing it on while grabbing my winter hat and placing it over my hair, making sure I'm warm, "I'll see you next week, Dahli—"
"Where'd you get that bracelet from?" She asks cutting me off, pointing toward my bracelet making me arch my brow as I cross my arms, "Are you.... are you dating Hawks?"
"One, it's a bracelet from my father that I got as a child," I begin glaring toward her, grabbing my handbag and placing my phone inside, "And two, if I am, why is it your business? I am my own person and I can date whoever I want and do whatever I want. I don't need your permission nor your input on what I do. Now, I'll see you next week,"
Before I can allow her to have another word, I spread my wings and soar into the sky, a small hum leaving my lips as I do a quick loop in the air, following the wind toward my dates home. A smile on my lips as I arrive at his home, landing on my two feet and gently knocking on the door.
Keigo hadn't been at work today. He had a rather rough day yesterday during his patrol. He tried saving someone and someone got hurt in the attack. They died in hospital. Keigo took it terribly. He took a whole week off work, wanting to avoid the press and avoid attention. Keigo didn't want anyone other than me seeing him broken down.
So I here I was, hoping that my presence would perk him up slightly.
Taking a deep breath, I gently knock at his door, smiling softly as I notice one of his wings open the door for him so he didn't even have to leave wherever he was. After walking in, I shut the door behind me and follow his feather toward where the owner is, a small smile on my lips as I walk into my room and lean against the doorway gently. The sight before me making my heart break slightly.
The Number Two Hero looked like death. His eyes were sporting heavy bags, almost like he hadn't slept all evening. He looks so lifeless. The male releasing a weak smile upon seeing me before making grabby hands toward me, making me giggle gently and take my hat and coat off, setting them down on the hangers of his door.
"You look like death," I hum gently, walking over to him and sitting beside him, running my fingers through his knotted hair making him smile weakly as I kiss his cheek, "Have you even left your bed?"
"Only to go to the bathroom..." he mumbles gently, resting his head against my shoulder as I pull him into my chest and kiss his forehead, "How was your day?..."
"It was alright until Dahlia decided to chuck her problems onto me," I hum with a small smile, drawing circles on his bicep as he plays with the hem of my blouse, "Started bitching about how I should mess up your makeup and shit,"
"Little does she know I have you wrapped around my finger," he says softly, his voice raspy as he clears his throat and runs his fingers through his hair gently, "You didn't have to come today... I have dealt with this on my own before,"
"Well, you are my boyfriend now," I hum poking his cheek making him chuckle and smile toward me, his aura slowly lifting from sadness to happiness, "And you shouldn't go through things like this alone, it's not good for your mental health, it's good to talk to someone about things like this,"
"You're an angel, you know that?" He hums, slowly sinking out of his bed and stretching his arms over his head before blushing embarrassed as his stomach grumbles loudly for food, "A beautiful, gorgeous angel,"
"Hungry, bird brain?" I ask, pushing myself to my feet and kissing his cheek gently as I hand him his robe, "I'm always here for you, okay? We all have our rough days and we all have our luggage of shit, you're not alone in this,"
"Thank you, baby bird," he hums, sending me a small smile as we head toward his living room where he slumps into the living room, "Can you make me some food, please?"
"I'm going to anyway, you relax and watch tv,"...
"You're the best, (Y/n),"...
