Chapter 17

Staring at my reflection in the mirror, I take a deep breath as I button up my blouse, getting myself ready for the week ahead. My heart in my throat as I brush my outfit down, my wings fluttering gently every so often, at my skittish demeanour. A shaky sigh leaving my lips as I look toward my alarm clock, nearly lunch time, my heart hammering against my ribs as I take the stairs down, heading to the kitchen to grab my bento box.

My sister sat at the island, her chocolate eyes focusing on me, a small worried yet reassuring smile on her lips as I run my fingers through my hair. Beside my sister, sat Angel, her fluffy snow tail wagging gently as she barks gently toward me. Amai walks up to me and hugs me from behind as I make myself a coffee to take into work. Resting her head on my shoulder as she sighs gently.

It's been a week...

A week since we went out to that bar. A week since Keigo almost kissed me. A week since I left the bar on my own. A week since I got attacked by some thugs in an alleyway. A week since Keigo saved me from something that I couldn't even imagine...

I didn't even know what came over Keigo. As soon as he took me home, he rang the modelling agency we work at and explained the situation. He got me a week off. Told me to take some time to get over it. Telling me that if I just soldiered on (which is what I wanted to do) that I'd burn myself and it'd catch up with me. Reluctantly, I did as Keigo told. Letting him hand me my comfy clothes and wrapping me in a blanket.

He even stayed with me until Amai, Rumi and Yu got back.

He was a completely different person. Like... he wasn't his usual flirty, sarcastic and mind numbingly annoying self. He seemed caring. Kind, even. He, surprisingly, held me close as we watched tv. Snuggling on the couch. I didn't even know how... it just seemed so surreal... he was gone when I fell asleep in his arms (possibly due to Amai returning with Rumi and Yu). He even left me some chocolates for when I woke up. It was... I don't want to say strange... but it felt so weird... to have him... care for me...

So, into the present, here I was, hyping myself up to go to work. I couldn't hide in the comfort of my home for so long. I had to go to work. I needed to break out of that little cage and let myself back to reality. Amai, however, would rather I stay at home for another month. Being her usual overprotective self.

She even refused to acknowledge that Keigo saved me!

"You sure you'll be okay?" Amai asks gently, rubbing my back as I pour the hot water into my flask with some coffee granules, sorting my own coffee out with a small sigh, "You don't have to go in... you know that..."

"I'll be fine, don't worry..." I reply, twisting the cap of my flask tightly onto the top before turning around in her arms and wrapping my arms around her in a tight hug, "I need to go back to work... I can't stay at home for the rest of my life,"

"Alright... just... stay safe..." she says softly, kissing my cheek gently before letting me go, sending me a reassuring smile as I grab my bag, fitting my bento box and flask inside, "Is your phone on? You can contact me right?"

"Amai, I'll be fine, please don't make me more anxious than I already am," I tell her, ruffling Angel's fur before heading toward the door, slipping my shoes onto my feet with a deep breath, "Have a good day, Amai, I love you,"

"I love you too, (Y/n)," she says softly, picking up Angel and holding her close to her body to try and calm herself down as I open the front door and leave the house, "Stay safe!"

Smiling to myself, I shut the door behind me before spreading my wings. Letting the air swirl around my feathers as I let them flap gently, my body slowly becoming weightless as I shoot into the sky. The wind slotting through my hair, making it slick back before blowing everywhere. A giggle leaving my lips as I soar through the sky, my snow white wings glistening in the sunlight as I flit through the sky. My eyes scanning the street below, trying to deduct where my destination was. As it comes into my vision, I swoop down to the street, running my fingers through my hair as I walk into the building.

The fried chicken place...

As crazy as it seems, I wanted to buy Keigo something to say 'thank you' for saving me. I wanted to get something that I knew he'd like and that I'd knew he'd get something out of it. And, it was no mystery that Keigo absolutely adores chicken. You always saw food in the guys hands whenever he was on tv, whether it be yakitori or chicken. So here I was, buying the winged hero fried chicken. Smiling gently toward the cashier, I order a bucket. A bucket of chicken. A small hum leaving my lips as I stand to the side and wait for the chicken to be cooked. My eyes focusing on my feed on my phone as I scroll through.

Around five minutes later (maybe even quicker), the bucket of chicken is cooked and placed into a brown bag for me to take away. Thanking the cashier, I skip out the fast food restaurant and head toward my workplace, taking a small shaky breath as I push myself into the sky once again, my arms wrapping themselves around the bucket to stop any chicken from falling out and landing on the street (or on someone's head god forbid). A small hum leaves my lips as I land in front of the office doors, my eyes closing gently as I take a reassuring breath to prepare myself.

I can do this.

Without a second thought, I push the door open and walk through, punching myself in with the clock before heading toward my office to check on some things. Grabbing my keys, I push the key into the lock and unlock my office door, pushing it open with a small hum as I flick the lights on. My eyes widening slightly at the objects on my desk. More anonymous gifts?

It wasn't just a bouquet of flowers this time. Oh no. It was something different. Completely different. There was a box of chocolates shaped like a love heart. A box of candied hearts with corny little phrases on top. With another bouquet of flowers. A small hum leaving my lips as I set the bucket down and walk toward the gifts. How did they even get in here? I have the key... As I inspect the two boxes of food, a small slip of paper slides onto the table reading the words :

Dear (Y/n)

Again. Those same two words. No secret little note with a hidden meaning. Just two words that mean absolutely nothing to me. No clue about who it's from. No idea who sent it. No idea how it got in there... my life seems to be getting crazier and crazier and crazier...

Shaking it off, letting it slide for once, I turn on my heels and pick up the brown bag. Leaving my bag in my office as I head down the hall toward Keigo's dressing room. A small, fond smile playing on my lips as I gently wrap my hand around the handle and push the door open. To my surprise, Keigo's already dressed and ready for me start.

As I walk in, I couldn't miss the way his eyes light up. With either relief or happiness, I can't really tell. However, he seems happy to see me. A small giggle leaves my lips as I notice his eyes trail down to the brown bag in my arms, his nose twitching slightly as he tries to inhale the succulent smell.

"Missed me?" I ask arching a brow as I set the bag down and shimmy my jacket off, giggling as Keigo mindlessly nods, his eyes glued to me as I run my fingers through my hair and let my wings fuse back into my back, "How was your week without me?"

"I'm not gonna lie to you, baby bird, it was horrible," he replies, rubbing the back of his neck with a small sheepish smile while I grab the skincare products from the drawer to prep his face for the makeup, the male chuckling as I arch a brow his way, "Don't look at me like that, I'm being honest, can't have a laugh with the other makeup artists. They're not as fun as you are,"

"Oh really?" I ask, resting my weight on my hip as I cross my arms over my chest, "You really missed me?"

"I swear on my life, I missed you," he replies with a small smile, winking my way as I roll my eyes softly, "Anyway... how've you been? You feeling better?"

"I'm alright, can't really do anything about it," I reply with a small shrug before clearing my throat and setting the bucket in front of him, my eyes playfully gleaming as his mouth waters instantly, "This is a thank you gift, for saving me the other day,"

"You didn't have to do this, baby bird, I would do it a hundred times more if I had to," he says looking toward me, chuckling as I clear my throat and look with away, shaking my head, "You're worth saving, (Y/n), you don't need to thank me,"

"So you don't want the chicken?" I ask arching a brow, laughing as he instantly wraps his arm around the bucket, burying his face into it to fish out a drumstick, "You're a heathen,"

Keigo grins my way as he digs into his bucket without hesitation. The male didn't even care if his fingers got all greasy and oily. His eyes sparkle with nothing but absolute admiration as he nibbles on the meat and swallows it down. His tastebuds were singing, his mouth happily humming at the taste. Guess that was a present worth buying.

"You know, I've never had a girl buy me anything," he says softly, licking his fingers as he finishes the box, placing it down on the bin with a small grin, "You're the first girl to ever buy me something,"

"Wow, I feel so special," I reply sarcastically, rolling my eyes as I pop the cap open of the cleanser and soak a cotton wool pad in it, "You're unbelievably stupid,"

"And you're gorgeous," he replies winking toward me, pouting as I roll my eyes and shake my head, "Ooh! You'll be proud of me!"

"What?" I ask, tucking a strand of hair behind my ear as I grab the cleanser and begin wiping it over his face, "Your balls finally dropped?"

"Like you'd wanna know that," Keigo deadpans as he sticks out his tongue before grinning from ear to ear, "You'll be proud to know that I haven't made out with anyone in this room for a whole week! I've had no late night visits or booty calls,"

"Wow, you're a changed man," I reply, my words lacing with sarcasm as I run the toner through his skin next, "I've gone my whole life without that, get on my level bird brain, I don't get why you go from girl to girl anyway... there's no point, you'll get bored eventually,"

"Well... I won't have to do that when I've found the one,"...
