(4) Hate the way he moves
"Why bother Katie, just give him up and move on. Never trust a guy who's broken your trust once."
She was glaring at me now. "What's your problem Alan, I just told you. He didn't break my trust, it was a misunderstanding. He's been calling me nonstop and messaging how sorry he is and it was all Sarah's fault. The only thing weird about it is that, normally, he would've come here, physically to say sorry. I'm going to talk to him so it saves us both some energy. Sarah just needs to control her thirst and become a normal human being, that bitch."
"Hey, language."
Katie snorted. "Oh my gosh, never say that to me ever again."
She reached for her phone, unlocking it. I didn't know how she lived in her room. It was dark and filthy and her bed was covered in snot-filled tissues. My room wasn't the best too, but still, snot-filled tissues were the worst.
"Hey Paws." She hummed and I realized that I should tell her before it's too late. "You might want to hear me out before you call the idiot."
"Mason's not an idiot."
"I would know," I mutter glancing away. He's in my team after all. "Anyways, I might've told him off when Drake went at him."
"What do you mean?"
I scratched the back on my neck, standing up. I had to be ready incase World War Three broke out. "I told him to never come next to you. I kinda also said that you were his girlfriend, as in, past tense."
I didn't wait to see what she got ahold of. As soon as I saw my sister's face turning into pure rang, I ran out, almost missing a few steps on the stairs.
"ALAN!"
Mum was there to save me. She's always there, my knight in shining armor. This time, she had a luggage next to her.
"Wait mum, why is everything already here?" I couldn't stand and talk. Katie finally was down, still in her pajamas. She was screaming at me like a madman.
"Katie Baker! Stop this nonsense at once!"
The girl stopped, thank the gods.
"But mum, Alan literally did the worst thing a brother could do!"
Now I had both pair of eyes directed to me. There was noway I'm telling mum about it. "I'll tell you, but we've got more important things to discuss. Like, for one, why do you have your luggage downstairs and look like you're ready to travel?"
Mum rolled her eyes, she seemed to take the bait. "I told you Alan, I have to go to your grandma's house."
"Yeah, that's tomorrow right?"
"No, actually, tonight. The flight's at eleven."
"What?!" Katie and I both yelled in surprise. I guess we both didn't expect it. Mum barely went on flights by herself. It's always a family thing if it ever happened.
"I know, but things need to get done before Friday and I don't have time to focus on the tickets and all. My mum needs me there as soon as she can. She's getting old, you know."
We acknowledged it for a few seconds. By the time we'd moved away to do our own stuff, dad was home, discussing a few things for the flight. By the time I'd given up on trying my best of a maths question for five long minutes, mum called the two of us down for an early dinner. We did what we normally do, set the table, help to get the food and eat together.
This time, dad discussed about mum's flight, and grandma May. When dad spoke about it, it sounded serious, but mum, she talked it off as if it wasn't a big deal. I didn't know what to believe.
Then Katie talked. "Alan broke up with Mason." I choked on my food. "For me."
I glared at her side as she continued to eat carelessly. She was my sister alright.
Mum was glaring at me and I gave her a disbelief look. "The guy cheated on her with some other slut."
"Wordings please." Mum was always the one to talk about these stuff. Dad just sat there, eating. He probably didn't know what to say. "And Mason wouldn't do something like that. Plus, seriously Alan, get ahold of yourself and stop breaking up with Katie's boyfriends."
My jaw dropped. "Dad, you're hearing this right?"
He lifted his arms in the air. "Don't pull me into this. I'm not one for girl talks."
My jaw dropped again. "You're calling me a girl?!"
The girls were dying of laughter. My whole family was against me.
~~~
"So, you guys ready for the party this Friday?"
I sighed for the hundredth time, plopping myself on the benches. The wind was nice today and it really felt good to be outside. It would be great to play today but we had no practices on Wednesdays.
"How many times are you going to talk about it Brian, god, you're worse than the girls."
I thanked Drake in my head, at least he voices my thoughts.
"Hey! That's not nice." Tracy was with us again, with another girl. Someone I didn't recognize. "Anyways, guys meet Bailey, she moved to Stratford yesterday. Bailey, meet the boys."
I gave her a small smile since she sat the closest to me on her side and introduced myself. She gave me back a shy one and I wondered how Tracy was able to get someone like her to hang around.
Drake introduced himself next only after nudging my leg from under the table. I gave him a weird look to which he just shrugged off. I needed new friends.
"Hi, I'm Brian and Finn is to Drake's right." The blonde pointed to the brunette. "And that's Derick to Drake's left."
"We can introduce ourselves to the pretty girl, thanks man." Bailey blushed at Derick, ignoring him completely. I wanted to snort in return.
"I'm Mason." Of course, I almost forgot. The guy was sitting with us for some reason. He didn't talk to me and when Drake didn't make a move, I knew he knew what'd happened at home yesterday. Neither of us were guilty of having made the guy's face ugly. Surprisingly, the word of the fight didn't go to any of the teachers so we were safe.
"He got smashed yesterday but don't worry, everything's fine." Tracy explained to Bailey. The shy girl nodded, double checking his face. He was so awkward.
And I was annoyed. Katie wasn't over him. I'd smash his head again if he tries to move on.
We went back to our normal selves again, chatting about this and that. I wasn't concentrating much. All I could do was stare at Bailey, who kept stealing not-so-obvious glances my way. And Drake kept hitting my leg, which pissed me off a little. He knew very well that I wasn't going to do anything about it and took advantage.
"Katie's coming tomorrow right?" The question was directed to me and I nod.
"She just wanted to take a break from all the drama. She gets stressed easily. I think." I wasn't sure. Did Katie get stressed easily?
Tracy rolled her eyes. "Of course she does. She's with you for gods sake. I don't know how anyone would survive."
"Talk about yourself."
"Fine okay, tell me Oh Great Alan the Lord of all." Brian burst out laughing at the honorifics. I facepalmed but turned my attention to the girl anyways. "What's Katie's favorite color?"
I cleared my throat. "Easy, red."
Tracy clapped her hands and for a second, I thought it was to congratulate me.
"It's pale yellow."
"Yes!" Tracy high-fives Mason. "It's pale yellow."
"What? But she was going on about how awesome everything looked in red!"
"That was last month." Mason was blunt and he sounded like he felt guilty for having me in the situation.
"Wait, what? It changes every month?" Darn-it, I casually talked to Mason like as if I wasn't mad at him. Everyone noticed and Drake glared at me. Mason tried to ignore it. Good for him.
"Yeah, it's a thing, apparently."
I nodded numbly.
I had to make things awkward.
"Moving on," Tracy patted my back, making me glare at her. We were both plotting each other's death. "What's in Katie's first drawer on the right side of her bedside table?"
I gapped at her. "How would I know?! She barely-"
"Three flashlights."
I'm going to murder Mason.
"Correct once again."
"You need to stop mate. Someone from the outside are going to mistake you as Katie's boyfriend."
A leg kicked me on my shin. I hissed, glaring at Drake. He gave me a 'what are you doing?' and I returned a 'what do you think I'm doing?'
"Well, I'm not disrespecting your wishes of me staying away from her, am I? But I didn't do anything wrong and Max also told me that I didn't need to give up just yet."
I wanted to rip something apart. He had to bring up that name.
Max fucking Winters.
