Chapter XXV: Trials

The absolute thing I learned from the past was that the carousel never stops turning; it was meant to linger to those who had patience and grace. I calculated the way Lowe waged his head to the side as he furiously typed into his phone.

If that was a typing marathon, he would have won.

Settled back to reality, he was wearing Reign's simple black shirt with jeans that matched his figure. He was freshly showered but the phone call he got made his face pale.

"What is it? what did the police want?" I questioned when I sat beside him on Reign's bed.

"They wanted me to tell them what happened with Becky." He grimaced at another text message, and I peeked to see it was Reign.

"Did you tell Reign?" I implored to the text messages.

"No," he sheepishly said, "I don't want to ruin his family gathering, but he did mention he will be back tonight." His voice was lowered on that part, and I could feel the guilt in his demeanour.

I placed a hand on his knee to soothe the ache in his heart. "It will be okay, what time do you have to go to the police?" I inquired.

"Now. I have to skip today's courses." He replied, his hands clasped together as he wandered ahead, his ash curls on decorated his forehead when he placed his arms on his knees.

"I will go with you." I suggested.

"No way, Naya. You have to start your courses, they won't let you off." He rejected my suggestion, but I had another thought.

"Look, I have one morning course and two evening classes, just give me the address of the station you are going to and I will get there after the morning course." I told him with a supportive smile on my face.

"You would do that for me?" He said exhiliratingly with his chestnut eyes that gleamed at me in appreciation.

I nodded meekly.

He took me in a hug, and I hugged the dulcet guy back.

"If I was straight, I would definitely go for you."

Typical Lowe was back.

Under a dove grey sky, each hue darker and richer than before. The path sparkled and crunched, like sugar underfoot, and the coolness brought me right into the now, into the moment of life.

I had on my mahogany coat, my fingers warmed inside of my pockets when I trudged along as my cheeks caught minisucle snowflakes, I had on my black beanie to hide my bird's nest when I entered the class.

My mind was on Lowe's investigation when I sat down for my business course. I felt brittle today, it was probably from my lack of sleep.

Life had thrown Mr. Goober at me for business and my head couldn't get any worse. He talked through the entire class about leadership and preach stuff, and I wanted to groan at how time was slow when he talked our ears off.

My sleep-driven eyes gazed at the clock during his speeches, and the moment the clock ticked to the end, I stood up and grabbed my notebook to get the hell out of here.

It seemed like I wasn't the only one as a large bunch almost rammed me to the wall.

I exhaled when I saw an Uber available and I made sure to stuff in my coat pocket with extra dollars for the ride. Lowe had texted me the address and I showed it to the old man, before looking out of the tinted window.

My mind raced with many thoughts, my eyes begged for sleep and my heart broke for Lowe's torture under a million eyes over Becky's near death incident. Becky wasn't any normal person, she was a famous person.

It has been reported that Becky's condition is getting better! News was out that the famous Amelia Hughes was hiding her daughter from the media. Becky Allister, according to John Allister, was the step sister to the heir, Lucas Hughes!

I sat up straight and tried to hear the rest, but the lousy radio kept going on and off, the old man was as perked as I was.

We arrived to the police station that was near to the famous hospital, I gave him the money and he gave me a suspicious look, he probably figured out why I was here.

The tightly packed mass in front of the station was a sight to behold as paparazzi kept clicking on their cameras, but I didn't miss the same curled guy that slapped his mom. He was cursing off at the crowd as the police officer told them to go back to their homes.

Lucas watched me like a hawk ready to pounce at me. I held on my tough facade when I walked confidently with a fiery gaze and a copper heart.

"What are you doing here?" He had the nerve to ask me that right in front of the officer. The man analyzed me to see if I had on any threats, but when he saw that I was an ordinary girl, he went off to his work.

"I am going to see Lowe, back off." I shot back to the hard-headed guy with my undercover caveat.

Lucas's eyes were a portrait of a hurt devil. Even though he used his eyes to allure people, his horns still showed no matter what. With his brooding all black attire, you would think he was a usual bad boy, but there were things about him that I only memorized like the way he placed a hand on his head when he thought, or when he never showed anyone the scar behind his ear.

The scar that matched mine. It was the day we went slid down the slope of rocks into the river, we had the same hit on the same ear.

"Where is he?" I asked an officer.

"I am here, Naya." I turned around to see the angel in tight clasps and bloodshot eyes.
