Chapter III: The Move
I was lost in a sea of people.
People dug their elbow at me as they hustled through, others crowded me with their fast footsteps, people were really that excited to move into their new dorms.
My hands held on tight to my box to prevent it from falling as people rushed on every side of me.
Brigewater State College was popular; they had a great education program, except for their students, who were hardcore style critics; I figured that out when the girl gave me a stink-eye at the white flannel shirt I wore with my mid-length light jeans the moment I passed by her for my dorm keys.
I already missed my dad and brother.
Khai helped out with some stuff for the shipment and although he didn't have quite the relationship before with dad, he still stood beside dad when we said our farewells.
My brother was a frozen river; he was as still as the rigid water that stopped the current's flow. He had on an icy exterior that nobody could break through due to the horrific boat incident of his bestfriend, Callum Lander, that caused his instant death. Khai lived through hell to the point where it affected his grades and his life as a whole.
We were much more happier when we were younger.
I placed the key in the whole while my other hand balanced the box. "Come on, stupid key." I groaned when I couldn't twist it to open the door and my other arm hurt.
"Need help with that?" A raspy voice invaded my senses and I turned around forgetting that I held the box that almost crashed into his stomach.
"Oh, sorry about that." I said breathlessly. I was momentarily stunned by the beauty in front of me.
She was a much captivating female version of Tarazan with her long brown hair that went proudly to the back of her neck and had the bluest eyes I had ever seen in my entire life.
"Yes, please," I finally answered her first question and gave her the heavy box, she held it effortlessly with an amused smile as if she questioned the capability I had to hold this all the way through. I opened the door to the new place for my entire college life.
"My name is Reign, what's yours?" She definitely didn't waste any time in getting to know me. I liked the type of people who get to the point, rather than the likes of him, who beat around the bush.
"Naya," I replied and shook her hand when she held it out to me after she placed the box on the floor. We both had somewhat identical smiles. "Thanks for helping out." I added and she shrugged placing her hands inside his back pockets.
"No need to thank me, roomie." She winked at me and I wanted to die mentally. She was my new room buddy.
"Don't worry about your privacy, I won't be looking." She clarified, my face sure gave it all away, she thought I didn't want her as my room mate.
Nonetheless, she was attractive to look at but not really my type to go for.
Excitement didn't even begin to describe what I was planning to do, I helped Reign with our room and unpacked my stuff. It was an eventful day as we spent all morning uncovering the plastic wraps and placing the carpet on the floor with our additional bought touches.
"How did you find your first love?"
We had a round of questions and answer after we placed ourselves on our dark red lazy couch that was between our single beds. It was an entertaining game to acknowledge each other more. I held onto my steaming hot chocolate mug close to me for warmth with my scarf around my shoulders to cover me up; they had mean air conditioners in our room and it was annoying me.
Reign held onto his purple blanket with warmth in his eyes.
"I was barely thirteen years old and it was on a summer trip to the Bahamas," he recalled with an adoring smile on his face, his sapphire eyes glinting slightly, "she was gentle with me and we would escape every summer night to different places in the Bahamas," he then frowned as he continued, "since then, we never saw each other. What about you?"
"Never." I quickly responded and he laughed at my answer.
"No, dumbass, did you fall in love with someone before?"
The question hit me hard like a ton of bricks, I didn't know him enough to trust him with my heavily placed grudge on Lucas Hughes and at the same time, I didn't want to ruin the day with that asshole.
"Yes, I did with an amazing gentleman back in high school," I twisted the story around for my sake, "he was the sweetest, he took care of me and loved our family dinners, his parents knew mine and we stayed in touch after we broke up." I wanted to throw up at the sickening plot twist I had to tell but I held my ground on sanity. I was too shameful to admit that it was the other way around and he was my first love.
"I am sorry, I didn't mean to bring you back to sad memory lane." he apologized innocently and I just dismissed it when it was my turn to ask him.
"You aren't a virgin, right?" I spurted and immediately wanted to take the words back, he gave a little nervous laugh and my eyes widened at him. "You're a virgin? wow, that's insane," I complimented.
"I am an old fashioned guy, I feel like I want to wait for the right person who is willing to stay with me forever and who appreciates me as a person, I don't like the use-and-throw kind of people."
Me too, Reign, me too.
