[Chapter 39]

"What do you think about this dress, Jack?" (Y/n) asked as she held up a long gold gown up to show her husband, who responded with looking up and squinting at the dress with a thoughtful hum.

Walking over while rubbing his chin and running his fingers along the fabric, "I mean, it'll be a good look for the ceremony." He said before smirking, "It screams 'HYPERION'! So yeah I like it." He said as she smiled up at him and nodded before looking at the price tag and making a face. Jack looked down at her in confusion, "What?" He asked as she showed him the price. "Only a thousand dollars?" He asked with a smile at her, "Pffft, babe, please. I could buy you a hundred of these."

"Yeah but remember what we talked about limiting ourselves?" (Y/n) said as Jack threw his head back and laughed.

"Cupcake! We're shopping at the most luxurious and expensive store here in the Financial District! And you're worried about prices?" He asked as he wrapped an arm around her waist and taking the dress from her in his other hand, "C'mon, this'll make you look like a trillion bucks and if you want it, I'll get it." Jack said as (Y/n) rolled her eyes on playfully.

"Fine fineee, I thought we were working on humbling ourselves," She said as the two walked over to the clerk, Jack scoffed with a smirk.

"My own daughter humbles me enough on a daily basis," He said as (Y/n) giggled and nodded in agreement.

"That's true," She said as Jack paid for the dress and they had it neatly packed away in a box and bag for them. Jack took the bag so (Y/n) wouldn't have to hold it and they leave the store together, hand in hand, as they walked down the streets of New York City. "What're we feeling for lunch?" She asked while staring up at the vast and massive buildings while they walked and gently swung their intertwined hands back and forth. Jack hummed in thought.

"I'm actually really craving NY Pizza Supreme." He said with a affirmative nod to himself.

"Weren't you just bragging about spending tons of money on luxuries?" (Y/n) deadpanned playfully as Jack snickered.

"Yeah but sometimes luxuries can't beat cheap pizza that still tastes absolutely amazing." He said as (Y/n) laughed softly.

"I suppose you're right on that too," She said as Jack smiled at her with a cocky expression.

"I know," He replied as she rolled her eyes playfully and nudged him as they walked to Times Square. After lunch, they headed back to Jack's penthouse as (Y/n) sat on the couch working on a replica in the living room with Jack sat on the couch with her tapping away on his laptop, his fingers seeming to be moving on their own as his eyes scanned the screen. The reality TV show, 'Keeping Up With the Kardashians' played on their flat screen TV as (Y/n) glued a piece together on her replica as Jack hummed. "How can you watch this garbage? It's literally a TV show following around a bunch of rich people and documenting every second of their lives. Hell, if I wanted to I could do the same exact thing." He said as his wife snickered.

"You're right, but it makes for great background noise. It's also pretty interesting seeing how far they've." She said as Jack rolled his eyes.

"Babe, one of them got famous off a snuff film they made, that's the only reason why she's rich." He said.

"Yeah but you gotta admit that it helped grow her own business and she's doing well for herself," She said as Jack glanced up from his laptop to squint at the TV where Kim Kardashian was having her interview in the show.

"I guess," He said with a tilt of his head and continuing to type away at his laptop, "I've met them at a few events like the Met Gala and they're ehhhhhh."

(Y/n) hummed with a smile at him, "Well not everyone is a genius engineer and tech nerd like you, so events like that aren't your type of things."

Jack snapped in approval at her words, "Exactly, events should have more people like Bill Gates or Jeff Bezos at events." He claimed as (Y/n) let out a soft snort and he chuckled, "What? It's true."

      "Not Elon Musk?"

"Nah fuck 'im, guy gives me the creeps," He said with a shudder and she laughed some more, "It's true! Who names their own kid after a bunch of symbols and numbers? You're literally setting them up to get shoved into lockers and their lunch money taken." Jack said as his wife laughed some more and he rolled his eyes playfully with a smile of his own, "Anyways, that's why I'm not at those events that long 'cause they're boring." He said as he went back to typing and she looked at him with a nod before taking a break from her replica and moving closer to Jack and cuddle him. He smiled softly and sighed softly as he set his laptop aside to pull her close to himself and they watched TV. (Y/n) hummed as she basked in his embrace and warmth while her fingers played with the fabric of his shirt.

"Jack?" She said softly and she heard a hum rumble from his chest.

"Yes, cupcake?" He asked as he ran his fingers through her hair.

(Y/n) hummed softly as she nuzzled her face against his chest, "Remember those dreams I would always have?"

Jack tilted his head in thought, "The one's where you're in space and all that?" He asked and she nodded.

"Mhm, I stopped getting them a few months ago," She said, "It's weird because they just felt so... Real... Like it's hard to tell where I am in reality. Because this feels real too. And you feel real." She said softly as Jack listened to her and bit his lip softly.

"Those dreams..." He said softly as he played with his wife's hair, "They must've messed you up bad..." He said as she nodded.

"They did, they were more like nightmares than dreams," She said before looking up at Jack and smiling softly as she leaned up to place a soft kiss to his lips in which he kissed back softly with a hum. (Y/n) smiled against his lips before pulling away a bit and resting a hand on the side of his face, "But I'm glad this isn't a dream even though it feels like it." They press their foreheads together gently.

"Hey, pumpkin, I wanna show you something," Jack said softly with a soft smile at her as she pulled away a bit

"Like what?" (Y/n) asked softly with a slight head tilt.

"Something back at Helios, it's a surprise." He said as she gave him a stink eye and he laughs softly, "I know you hate surprises but it's important, babe." He stated as she gave a soft pout and sigh.

"Fineeee," She said as Jack chuckled and pecked her cheek.

"Atta girl, c'mon, we'll drive there." He said as he patted her thigh and she reluctantly got up with him. Turning off the TV before they walked over to the front door to put their shoes on. Angel could be seen stepping over to them with a head tilt.

"Where are you two going?" She asked as Jack hummed.

"I'm gonna take your mom to Helios to show her something." He said as Angel gave a slight confused look before she gasped softly.

"Are you gonna show her the thingy, dad?" She asked as he looked at her, (Y/n) looked at Jack as he gave their daughter a soft nod.

"She knows what it is?" She asked as Jack looked at his wife and nodded.

"In a way," Jack looked at Angel, biting his lip in thought as if debating a internal decision before sighing softly and smiling softly at his daughter, "Wanna come along?" He asked as Angel looked between the two with a soft grimace before nodding. (Y/n) was confused by their sudden change of moods and Jack could sense that as Angel went to put her shoes on. "Everything's fine, babe. C'mon, not a moment to lose!" He said with a reassuring smile at her before the three left the penthouse and went down to the parking garage. They got into Jack's yellow BMW M4 where he started up the engine and began to drive it to Helios Tower. The ride was quiet besides the radio playing and (Y/n) looked out the window at the bright lights of New York as they drove through Times Square, she looked to the backseat and noticed how Angel stared out the window almost sadly and it worried her before she looked over at Jack as he drove. He too looked a little sad but he glanced over at her and gave a smile, placing a hand on her thigh comfortingly.

"Is everything okay, Jack?" She asked as he nodded.

"Peachy, cupcake," He denied with his smile, she didn't buy it as his smile faded away and  continued driving. (Y/n) made a face before sighing softly as she stared back out the window. They soon arrived outside of Helios Tower as he then parked before they all stepped out of the car. Heading inside the building, they got into the elevator and headed up to Jack's office.

"So are you gonna tell me now?" She asked while leaning against Jack, holding his hand with her head on his shoulder.

"You'll see," Jack chuckled as (Y/n) sighed as she tried to figure out what it could be. They soon reached to the floor where Jack's office is and began walking down the hall. She looked over at Angel as the girl grimaced and hugged herself almost as they walked.

"Are you okay, Angel?" She asked as Angel looked up at her with sad blue eyes. Glancing at her father, who only gave a small nod, she looked back at her stepmother and gave a nod with a forced smile.

"Yeah, I'm okay, mom," She said as (Y/n) gave a soft frown and wrapped an arm around Angel to pull her into a side hug as they walked to Jack's office.

"Alright..." She said softly, she didn't like how the two were pretending to be okay when they obviously weren't. Once they arrived to Jack's office, he gestured to the couch he had by the desk before turning on the floor lamp to illuminate the room with a soft glow and (Y/n) went over and sat down with Angel. Jack sighed softly as he walked over to the mass windows behind his desk to overlook New York and the skylines. Angel rested her head on (Y/n)'s shoulder and she reached up to play with her stepdaughters hair while looking towards her husband.

Jack bit his cheek as he looked at the faint reflection of his wife and daughter through the window glass and sighed, "(Y/n)?"

     She tilted her head, "Yes?"

"You know I love you, right? I want nothing more for you to be happy." He said as she nodded.

"Of course, and I love you too." She said as he gave a soft and sad smile. Jack turned and pulled out his chair to move it out of the way and going to his computer. He typed something out and a button slides up from the desk. (Y/n) gave a slightly confused face as she watched him press the button and a holographic screen popped up from his desk top. Her eyes widened slightly as she moved away from Angel to stand up and walk over to Jack. Angel grimaced as she watched. "Jack, what is this...?" She asked as he looked at the screen and tapped something to reveal Little Red, a.k.a. (Y/n) (L/n) in the Badlands before the images switched over to her other ego, Red Eye with her red cybernetic eye. Her eyes seemed only widen more as she stepped next to him and stare at herself. Jack rubbed his chin as he leaned up against his desk and watched her processing this, he didn't even have to say much as he watched the gears turn in her head.

"What is this..?" She asked softly, "Is this...? That's me... From my dreams..." She said and looking up at him. He shook his head and tapped something on the hologram to show a bigger hologram in the middle of the office. It showed Pandora with the moon station, Helios, hovering over the planet.

"Those aren't dreams, babe." He said while they walked over to the hologram and he tapped on a section of Pandora to reveal Sanctuary where the residents walked around with guns and what not, "That's reality."

"No..." She said quietly in disbelief, "Then what's this, Jack?" She asked while looking at him, "What is all of this? What's going on?" Jack looked at her sadly as the blue fluorescent light from the hologram illuminated his face.

"Pumpkin... You're in a coma. You've been in a coma for months." He said softly as she looked at him in disbelief and slight shock while processing this new information. Her swiped at the hologram where it transitioned to a slow motion showdown in Jack's office where she shot Gorden with a bullet going through his head and a bullet going through her chest from him. "You got shot on Helios trying to find the beacon for Gortys. Rhys... He got there and managed to save you but they said that they weren't able to wake you up and that you were in a vegetative state. All of this," Jack gestured around them before pointing himself and Angel, "Is just a dream. Us, we're just a dream. We're dead in reality. None of this is real. All of this is what you dreamed for us to be. This world? This was our dream world. This planet is the place we dreamed of creating on Pandora." Jack said as (Y/n) shook her head, she didn't want to believe it.

"But... This all feels so... Real." She said as Jack sighed and Angel walked up to them.

"Coma dreams tend to be like that, pumpkin," He said softly as he pulled his daughter into a side hug while the two watched (Y/n) rub her head and look back at the hologram.

"Why... Why are you telling me this now?" She asked while tears rolled down her face.

Jack grimaced, "Because you looked so happy ever since you came back here. I thought it'd be better if you stayed since you're so much happier here then out there. But, I think it's okay for you to go out there now. I dunno why, but I just got that feeling that you'll be okay out there." He said as he looked at her and walked over to place a hand on his shoulder, "That's up to you though. I'm telling you all this now because I want you to choose what you want to do with your life. You can stay here with us and continue to be in a coma or..." He looked at the hologram as it transitioned to Rhys, Vaughn, Lilith, Fiona, Sasha, along with everyone else on Pandora, "Or you can go back to them, because from what I'm feeling, they miss you a lot. Sometimes I hear them in these echoes, so I'm assuming that they're there at your side visiting you all the time."

(Y/n) sniffled as she looked at everyone tearfully and bit her lip, "What about you, Jack? I... I can't go back out there without you..." She said, her voice shaking as more tears came down, trying to swallow down the lump in her throat, "I miss you so much, Jack." Her husband gave a sad smile as he pulled her into a hug.

"I'll always be there for you. I'm always in here," He kissed the top of her head, "And here." He hummed while pointing to where her heart is, "Again, it's up to you. You can just stay here with me and Angel where you'll be happy. Or you can go back out there with people who miss you so much more." (Y/n) but her lip as she stared at Jack and Angel with tears running down her face and at the hologram.

"How am I gonna get back there?" She asked softly as Jack gave a sad smile and walked over to his desk to type something into his computer before a bookshelf slides to the side to reveal a bright light.

"Through there," He said as he walked back to her, "It's your choice. You deserve to be happy, babe. But you need to choose your happiness." (Y/n) grimaced as she looked at the bright entrance and back at her step daughter and husband.

"Will I... Will I still be able to visit you two...?" She asked quietly with a sniffle. Jack and Angel smile sadly at her as they took her hands.

"Always." Angel said softly as Jack kissed (Y/n)'s knuckles on her hand. She smiled tearfully and pulled the two in a tight hug, in which they hugged back tightly. She sniffled as she reluctantly let them go while her hands are placed on either sides of their faces.

"I love you two..." She said quietly as Angel held her hand to her cheek affectionately.

"We love you too, mom..." She replied as Jack stepped closer to place a kiss to (Y/n)'s lips.

"I promise you, it's going to get better for you once you're out there, (Y/n)." He said softly against her lips and she let out a shaky sigh as she pressed her forehead against his.

     "You promise, Jack?"

Jack smiled at her gently with a nod, "I promise." He said as she grimaced a smile before nodding. She wiped at her eyes to dry away the tears that continued to come down. She stepped over to the entrance, squinting at the brightness before looking back at Jack and Angel. Her dream husband pulled his daughter into a side hug as the two wave at her with loving smiles. (Y/n) smiled back at them sadly before taking a deep breath and stepping into the bright light.
