[Chapter 8]

It's about 7 at night. The day spent having breakfast with Jack in the morning at around 10, wandering around the shopping center after he left to get back to work, and then laying around in the penthouse. There was nothing for (Y/n) to do as she sighed in boredom. She thinks back to the infirmary and looks at her hand. It was the first time she's ever seen this small side of him for a short moment. How he got really gentle when mending her injury, she liked that side of Jack. (Y/n) shakes her head and frowns. No, she still hated him. He was still a narcissistic asshole.

"Don't be stupid, (Y/n). He basically kidnapped you. In which you willingly let him because you didn't want anyone to die. Curse your kind soul. It's such a pain." She whined as she stared at the ceiling of the living room. A knock on the door has her sit up and walk over to the door, she opens it and there's Courtney the assistant of Jack's. She holds a metal box and hands it to (Y/n).

"This was delivered from Pandora and was addressed to you." Courtney says as (Y/n) takes it, who smiles softly at her.

"I have a feeling I know who this is from. Thank you, Courtney." The assistant nods and walks off. (Y/n) watches her walk off with a tilt of her head and closes the door, walking to her room and placing the box on her bed. She opens is and smiles happily, the first real smile since she arrived to Helios. Inside the box was various ECHO recordings from the different people she held dear to her heart. She picks up the first one and plays it.

"Hey, (Y/n). It's Lilith. I'm glad to hear that you got there safely and that Jack hasn't killed you. Yet that is. Everyone's relieved when they heard your message. Ellie was shocked when she got the news, not that I blame her. Anyway, happy birthday, (Y/n). I'm sure we'll find a way to get in contact with you and I promise you that we'll all get you out of there someday. Be careful. And don't forget that we all miss you. Lilith out."

The recording ends and (Y/n) feels the lump in her throat and she holds back the tears as she took another one and pressed play.

"Hey there, sugar. Moxxi here. Lilith showed us all your message and I wanted to go up there myself to get you out of that hellhole. I still can't believe Jack would do this. He's such a dick and I hope he dies. Anyway, I'm so relieved you're safe and alive. I always saw you as one of my own and I wanted to protect you, but I knew I couldn't and that I would have to let you go at some point. You're such a well matured girl, (Y/n). Don't you forget that. Happy birthday, darlin'! And I hope you come back soon."

The recording ends and (Y/n) sits there in silence. Tears slipping down her face as Moxxi's words echoed in her mind. Moxxi saw her as one of her own children. Guilt starts to build up within (Y/n) as she had never liked Moxxi throughout the years. But after hearing this, she couldn't help but break down sobbing.

     "Hey, it's Mordecai..."

     "Roland speaking..."

     "It's me, Ellie..."

     "Yo, it's Brick..."

     "Howdy, it's your buddy Scooter..."

     "Konichiwa, Tiny T here..."

"Glad to hear that you're safe..."

     "Be cautious when with Jack..."

     "Happy birthday..."

"We'll get you out of there..."

     "Stay safe..."

     "We miss you..."

ECHO after ECHO, more tears fell as she finished hearing all of them. (Y/n) wipes the tears away, breath hitching from time to time as she looked in the box and pulls out a picture of her and everyone else together, all smiling. She smiles softly as she sniffed, wiping her tear filled eyes. (Y/n) hangs up the picture on her mirror and stared at it.

"What am I doing...?" She murmured and takes shaky breaths.

"You tell me, cupcake." Jack's voice is so  sudden that she jumps and lets out a audible gasp before sighing when she sees him, "What's that?" He asks as he looks at the box and ECHOs.

"None of your business." She huffed as she sniffed and took a deep breath, "You're done work?" (Y/n) asks, trying to change the subject as she put all the ECHOs back into the box and pushing the box under her bed.

"Yeah." Jack says as he leaned against her doorway and watched her pushing the box under the bed, "You alright there?"

"I'm fine. Just reflecting on my life decisions and questioning why I was born." She scoffed sarcastically, sitting on her bed with her back facing him and she faced the window to look out of it. Jack watches her and sighs deeply.

"Look, I know you don't like me very much. But we're gonna have to make this work out." He says as he walked into the bedroom and stepping in front of her. (Y/n) stares up at him blankly and doesn't say anything. Jack pinches between his eyebrows and goes inside his jacket to pull out a little box with a gold bow and he hands it to her. She looks at him and at the box and slowly takes it.

"It's not a trigger bomb is it?" She grumbles as he chuckles.

"I would be leaving the room while you open it if it were, cupcake." Jack says as she opened the box. Inside was a silver bracelet with a little chain in the shape of a pistol dangling on it. "It's real by the way." He adds as he walked over and sat beside her on her bed, taking (Y/n)'s wrist and putting the bracelet on for her. "Happy Birthday." He says as he looked at her. She blushes some and nods.

"Th-Thank you..." She murmured softly. Jack looks at her and at her lips, holding back the urge to kiss them and standing up.

"No problem. You should get to bed, cupcake." He says and ruffles her hair.

"Alright. Good night." She says softly. He nods and starts to walk out.

"Good night, (Y/n)." He says as he left, closing the door behind him. (Y/n) looks at the door in great confusion and replayed what just happened in her mind

"What just happened...?" She muttered as she thought about it more before sighing, giving up and getting ready for bed. Jack stands outside her room, thinking about what he just did and internally slapping himself.

"Stupid...!" He hissed to himself as he staggered to the kitchen, "Should not have drank my all of my emergency whiskey." He says as he grabbed a bottle of vodka, "Oh, Jacky. Get your head out of the clouds!" He laughed as he leaned against the island and drank from the bottle, "You have no chance with her." He slurred and pointing at something, as if he was talking to someone, "I don't even know why you took her." Jack chuckles and another swig from the bottle, "You were just letting your dick do the talking instead of your brain." He sighs as his hair falls out of place, "But she's different though." He murmured and placing the bottle down on the island, leaning over and placing his forehead on the cold marble, "Im surprised you still managed to act sober and not just pounce her." He grumbled as he brought his head back up and takes the bottle, "Oh what I would do to pounce her." He sighed as he walked to his bedroom and closing the door behind him.

The next morning, (Y/n) wakes up and takes a shower and changing. Jack ordered her new clothes and they were delivered in a matter of seconds after ordering them. She walks out and is surprised to see Jack standing in the kitchen, leaning back against the counter and sipping coffee. Looking out at nothing. She looks at him, puzzled as she slowly walked into the kitchen, steps light and silent.

"Good morning?" She says and Jack doesn't jump in surprise as he looks over at her, sipping his coffee.

"Morning, cupcake." He greets as she looked at him with slight suspicion. Jack glances at her wrist and sees the bracelet and squints, "Where'd you get that?" He asks.

"Um, you?" (Y/n) raises a brow at him as he took her hand and raised it up so he can look at the bracelet.

"Really?" He asks as he quirked a brow and studying the dangling, silver pistol charm, "Don't remember."

"Hm? You did though. Last night, you came into my room and gave me this." She says as Jack looks at her, thinking back before freezing.

"Shit. I didn't do anything... I don't know, handsy, right?" He asks with a frown as (Y/n) shook her head.

"No. You weren't. Were you drunk last night?" They both stare at each other and he shrugs, looking away while sipping his coffee.

"Maybe, maybe not, cupcake. I have a splitting headache right now and I don't remember a damm thing from last night." He says as he drinks his coffee.

     "Are you okay?"

     "Yeah, I mean it's just a hangover-"

"No I mean, are you okay?" She inquired as she sat up onto the island, "You've been acting weird and I've only known you for the past three days."

"I'm perfectly fine, cupcake." He says with a cocky smile, "See? Same ol' Jack." He says, winking at (Y/n) and she clicked her tongue.

"Ugh, go back to the other Jack." She says with a eye roll in which Jack frowns and looks away.

"Whatever. Anyway, I took off today because of this dumbass hangover so," He shrugs as he nudged his elbow at her, "If you want to do anything today, we can."

     "Like what?"

"I don't know. Whatever you want. I have some things in mind but you wouldn't like it."

"What does it include?" (Y/n) tilts her head slightly in curiosity. Jack smirks and chuckles as he glances at her.

"It includes you, me, my bedroom, and you under me. Our little game of naked Twister." He says with a wink and she cringed.

"Oh god. That's terrible." (Y/n) groaned as Jack laughs.

"Oh come on, cupcake." Jack sets his mug down and walks over to her, placing his hands on the island either side of (Y/n). Basically trapping her as he got close to her so their faces are centimeters apart, "You're stuck to me by the hip, cupcake. At some point in our lives, you would come around and give in to my advances. And once that happens, you would see me in a totally different view, I promise you that." He says lowly which causes her to blush lightly.

"When hell freezes over." She says as she tried to keep her composure and he chuckles darkly as he leaned his face in closer so his lips very lightly brushed over hers. Her blushing only get slightly darker and her breath hitching.

"But you're already in hell. My hell. You signed your soul to the devil, which is me. And now you basically belong to me. So you don't really have much of a choice, cupcake."

"Th-That's if you make it off my h-hate ranking." (Y/n) stuttered as Jack hummed with a dangerous smirk.

"I'll find a way. I always do." He leans over to her ear, "You have my word on it. I will stop at nothing to have you wrapped around my fingers. Whether you hate me or not, cupcake." He says with a seductive nip to her ear lobe. She could feel herself melting and biting her lip with a dark blush from how much of an affect he had on her as her heart raced. And she hated that.
