chapter one
Arrival

The screeching of metal against metal filled the ears of the young female when she woke up. It was dimmed but she could make out the outlines of supplies. She could hear the noise of metal against metal, her heavy breaths and rattling while the room moved up. If the dimmed moving room didn't scare her, then the fact that she couldn't remember anything freaked her out. She couldn't remember faces, memories, names or family. All she could remember were two names. Elizabeth. Newt. Two names that she had to figure out the meaning. The name Elizabeth seemed natural to her that she assumed it was hers.

Elizabeth then thought about the second name. It was clearly a males name, but she didn't know why she remembered it. As a matter of fact, she didn't even know why she was in the spooky room. Or even why she couldn't remember anything else other than the two names. Two names and basic information, for example, she knew that every action has an equal and opposite reaction. She also knew that the world spins on its axis around the sun, giving Earth seasons. Elizabeth knew all the science given to her, she just didn't remember who taught it to her or who made the laws and theories.

She felt the room come to a stop. Elizabeth knew that it couldn't be a good thing. A thousand thoughts and theories ran through her head while she sat on the metal floor. Elizabeth knew she shouldn't be sitting on the floor like an innocent girl, she should be ready for what was coming.

A blinding light hit her eyes, while the roof opened. Elizabeth squinted her eyes to see outlines, none of them came close to a female.

"Bloody hell." She barely heard someone whisper. Elizabeth heard mumbling while she stayed quiet, staring at them.

"What is it!?" Someone yelled.

"Is the greenie that ugly?"

"What's taking so long!?"

Elizabeth listened to the yelling of male voices, not hearing at least one girl.

"It's a girl." Someone said out loud.

"A girl!?"

"I call dibs!"

"Is she pretty!?"

"How old is she!?"

"Why is there a girl?"

"Why now?"

"Did the Creators made a mistake?"

"I'm not a bloody toy! Now can someone get me out of here! As lovely as it looks, my bum bloody hurts." Elizabeth yelled, tired of listening to the boys making comments about her. She forced herself to seem a bit tough since it seemed that the place was crawling with boys. "And can someone bloody tell me who Newt is?"

Elizabeth listened to shuffling of feet before a boy with blond hair entered the Box.

"I'm Newt. Who are you greenie?" The so-called Newt asked. Greenie. That was a foreign word to Elizabeth since she assumed she never heard anything like it.

"Elizabeth. Now can you tell me what's this place?" Elizabeth asked the blond boy, before noticing she had blond hair. She narrowed her eyes at the piece of hair before she got up.

"The Glade."

Elizabeth sat under a tree outside of a place that Newt called the Homestead. Newt who explained as much as he could under five minutes before being introduced to Nick, the leader. He seemed curious about Elizabeth. Before she got to ask a question, the two directed her to a tree and told her to wait. They claimed to have a 'Gathering'.

Elizabeth picked the blades of grass, one by one before she got bored of it. She counted ten blades of grass when she was finished. She frowned at how easily bored she got that she went digging through the pockets of her jeans. That's when she pulled out a piece of paper.

Dear no memory Elizabeth,

You can't remember a bloody name now except yours and your brother Newt. Who is in the Glade long before you. I really can't say much before I, myself, go to the glade except that you should look for Newt.

Sincerely,
Memory Elizabeth xxx

Elizabeth frowned at the note, she didn't know she was that rude. Especially towards herself.

"Newt. Newt." Elizabeth repeated. Hoping to trigger a memory, other than the fact that it felt familiar, she remembered nothing. With the new piece of information, she now knew that the so-called Newt was and is her brother.

Elizabeth got up and stretched before she headed into Homestead. She poked around every room before she entered a room full of boys who were talking.

"Hello, boys." Elizabeth smiled. A note to her past where she had a memory was the only thing she could grip to being somewhat the same person or maybe she could change. "I just need to borrow my brother and I'll be out of your hair."

Elizabeth ignored the confused stares and grabbed Newt by the arm. She then threw the note at Alby, Nick's second in command.

"You may now continue talking about my bum now." With that, Elizabeth took the confused Newt.

"Brother?" Newt asked in the same accent that Elizabeth has been using.

"Apparently we are bloody siblings," Elizabeth told the boy. "Do we even look alike?"

Elizabeth felt Newt's stares before he was pulled back into the room.

***

It was a weird day for Elizabeth while she sat, staring at the giant opening to the Glade. She was thinking about how boys would find little reasons to pass by the tree she was sitting at. The only thing that made it stop was when Alby told them that if they touched her, they would be thrown into the Cliff.

"What are you thinking about sis," Newt asked his sister, taking a seat beside her.

"That during the first two hours into the bloody Glade, I came off as rude and found out that I have a brother," Elizabeth told her brother.

"Twin brother." Newt corrected, weirded out about the new piece of information he found out.

"What?" Elizabeth asked.

"You didn't read the back greenie. Now come on. I'm showing you, your room in the Homestead." Newt told his blond twin sister. They both got up before they entered Homestead where clothes and female products laid on the bed. "We didn't know what those things were until we realized that it was for you."

"I'm surprised no one fainted." Elizabeth commented.

"Three boys are with the Med-jacks because of those. Nick said to keep them away from them." Newt explained. Elizabeth chuckled.

"So what's outside of those bloody doors that apparently move?" Elizabeth asked her twin brother. Newt's face darkens a slight bit before answering.

"The Maze isn't a place you want to spend time in," Newt told his sister.

"But the other people were in there," Elizabeth stated.

"They are Runners," Elizabeth smirked at the piece of information.

"Forbidding someone from doing something will only make them want to do it more."
