Harry and Teddy: Cricket Bats and Intruders

Harry had fallen asleep the instant his dark curls hit the pillow. I on the other hand had tossed and turned for the last two hours. My mind had now decided it was a good time to worry about all the tasks on my to-do list. I envied him, how he could just close his eyes and fall into unconsciousness without a second thought.

Has the clock always ticked that loudly? I glanced up to the wall where it hung from a nail. It was only then I noticed the flickering street light outside the window. The blinds were closed but tiny strips of wavering light filtered through, much to my annoyance. I turned my head to Harry, who was still fast asleep, unfazed by the irritating sights and sounds.  His mouth slightly agape as he lay on his back. Would it be cruel if I "accidently" kicked him?

I grabbed one of the throw pillows from the floor and placed it over my head in an attempt to block everything out. A few minutes passed before I shot up, the pillow dropping to the floor. My eyes widened as I heard another bump. It sounded like it was coming from inside the flat! I placed my hands on Harry's bare chest and shook him lightly.

"Harry." I whispered urgently.

"Uhhhh." He groaned rolling over on to his side away from me.

"Harry."

My touch was more forceful this time. He batted my hands away, sitting up.

"What is it?" He asked in a raspy voice.

His curls were all over the place. I watched as he rubbed his sleepy eyes.

"I think I heard something."

I could see him shake his head in the dim light.

"Probably just a cat." He reasoned. "Now go back to sleep."

He laid back down again only to grab hold of my arm seconds later upon hearing a thump.

"See." I stated.

Harry tugged back the covers and got out of bed quickly, with me right behind.

"Where's the bat?" Harry asked quietly.

I frowned, walking over to the wardrobe. I got down on my knees, feeling round the bottom of the storage before my hands gripped onto the bat. I pulled it out and made my way back over to Harry. His grey joggers were slung low on his hips, the band of his boxers visible. He took it from my hands and cautiously walked to our bedroom door. I let out a frustrated huff of air.

Harry sharply turned towards me. I could see in the dim light that his face held a frown.

"What?" He whispered in an annoyed tone.

"Not so stupid now, is it?" I placed my hands on my hips.

"What are you talking about, Ted?"

"My cricket bat, you laughed at me when I brought it to the flat."

"No I didn't." He shook his head.

"I distinctly remember you saying that it was silly, and we wouldn't need it because you're a show off and wanted to look tough in front of your mates." I jabbed my finger at him for more emphasis.

"Are we really arguing about this now?"

"Whatever." I spoke.

I walked over to where Harry was, nudging his lower back to start moving. He turned his head towards me.

"You're not coming....stay here."

"Of course I'm coming; don't leave me on my own!" I whispered sharply.

"Fine." He grumbled. "But you need to cover up." His hand gestured to my body. "Go and put some more clothes on."

I looked down at what I was wearing, my shorts weren't that bad. I glanced back up at him, his eyebrows expectantly raised.

"Fine." I mocked him.

I rushed over to the chest of drawers pulling out a longer pair of pj bottoms.

"Hurry up."

"Shut it, Styles." I hissed through gritted teeth.

I hopped over to where he was impatiently waiting by the door. The bat gripped tightly in his hands as he watched me stumble before pulling up the other leg of my clothing. He let out a small chuckle and couldn't help but smile. I stood behind Harry as his fingers wrapped round the door handle.

"Ready?"

"Yeah." I placed my hand on his lower back in reassurance.

He pushed the handle down and cracked the door open, peering out. It was nearly pitch black in the hall as we quietly made our way along the wooden floorboards.

"Stay close." He turned whispering to me.

I gasped as Harry stumbled slightly.

"How many times have I told you to not leave your shoes in the hall?" He accused.

I bent down picking up one of the converse.

"These are yours!" I whispered harshly.

He mumbled something I didn't understand as I dropped the shoe to the floor. My fingers caught hold of the top of his joggers, just above his bum. I followed him as Harry led us into the living room. He nudged the door open with the end of the bat. His arms flexed as he firmly held the weapon in his large hands.

"H-Harry, be careful." I stuttered quietly.

I let go of him as I stayed by the door. He walked round the room slowly with the bat extended. I knew it wasn't really the time but I couldn't help but giggle as he jumped onto the sofa. He aimed the cricket bat down the back of the seating area like it was a gun. When he didn't find a hiding murderer he stumbled down onto the floor. He gave me a cheeky wink, grinning as he strolled back over to me. He smirked, leaning his weight on the bat.

"I think I'd make a pretty good secret agent." He spoke as he reached round and pinched my bum.

"Oi." I batted his mischievous hand away.

"Styles, Harry Styles." He joked in a deep voice.

I abruptly stopped giggling when I heard another bump. Harry swiftly tugged me behind his body.

"It's coming from the kitchen." I whispered worriedly.

I held onto the back of Harry's joggers again as he hesitantly walked back out into the shadowy hall. When we got to the doorway of the kitchen my eyes instantly went to the fridge. There was a dark figure stood with the top half of their body hidden by the openfridge door. I was frightened and confused as Harry shook his curls lowering the bat. His fingers felt the wall to the light switch and turned it on. The kitchen was illuminated, making my eyes squint.

"For god sake, Niall!" Harry grumbled in an annoyed tone. "What don't you understand about the key is for emergencies only."

The body turned round. He shut the fridge door with his hip, his mouth full of food. I stepped round Harry to stand beside him. Niall started to speak but stopped when he was faced with our confused expressions. He swallowed the mouthful and then began again.

"It is an emergency, I-I ran out of food." He slowly trailed off as he stared at our unimpressed faces.

"Do you know what time it is?" I droned.

Before he could answer, Harry continued.

"Mate, it's half 1 in the morning."

Niall looked guiltily at us.

"Sorry." His gaze falling to the floor.

Harry placed an arm round my shoulder, pulling me closer to his body.

"Don't worry." I sighed. "Have whatever you like. Do you want to stay over 'till the morning, you can kip on the sofa if you want?" I smiled at him.

"Oh no, that's alright thanks, Liam is waiting outside."

As soon as the words left his lips, his blue eyes widened. He backed into the fridge as Harry gripped the bat in his right hand again. I grabbed Harry's arm before he could get to Niall.

"Liam drove you here for you to eat our food." He growled.

"No, no." Niall gushed. "Liam only agreed if I got him some of the leftover pasta Teddy made last night."

"How many times have you done this?" Harry asked, with me giggling, still struggling to hold him back.

"Only a couple of times." Niall mumbled.

"I'm going to kill you two!" Harry yelled, lunging at the Irish boy.

"Run Niall. Run!" I laughed as he made a speedy exit from the kitchen.

I couldn't hold on to Harry as I watched him chase the cheeky, food stealing, intruder out of the kitchen into the hall. I giggled following them out. Niall was already out the front door, running down the steps to the waiting car. I returned Liam's wave as Niall quickly jumped in the vehicle.

"It was Zayn too!" Niall shouted out the open window before the car accelerated down the road.

I caught hold of Harry's arm, laughing.

"They're all giving their spare keys back." He spoke through gritted teeth.

We stepped back inside the flat, Harry closed the door, locking it and sliding the chain across. I grabbed hold of his large hand tugging him back towards the bedroom. I leaned into the kitchen switching off the light as we passed the room. He shut the bedroom door behind us and I wiggled back under the covers. I watched as he bent down, placing the cricket bat back in the bottom of the wardrobe. I smiled as he walked over to his side of the bed. Harry pulled the covers down and slid into the warm confines. He opened his arms for me to cuddle into him. The gentle rising and falling of his chest began to relax me.

"I wondered why we were spending more money at the supermarket. I thought you were just really hungry." I giggled, poking Harry in the stomach.

His chest vibrated under me as he laughed. I released a tired yawn as Harry pulled the covers up higher round us.

"Night-night Harry."

I felt him kiss the top of my head before pulling me closer.

"We should get a guard dog." Harry whispered, thinking out loud.

I smiled, squeezing his hand before falling off to sleep.
