Chapter 31: Quidditch World Cup
In the year 1994 At the Woods, Ottery St. Catchpole, Devon, England, morning.
The scene changes to outside the Burrow as Harry, Ron, Matthew, and Hermione are walking with the rest of the Weasleys all dressed up.
Fred, George, Ginny, and Arthur Weasley, but it is unclear where exactly.
Matthew: Hey, Ron. Thanks for letting me spend the night.
Ron: You're welcome, anything for my friends, especially those who are Merlineans.
Harry: Ron, where are we going?
Ron: Don't know. [Shouting over to Arthur] Hey, Dad! Where are we going?
Arthur Weasley: Haven't the foggiest. Keep up!
They walk further into the woods, where we see an older fellow with brownish-gray hair, Amos Diggory.
Amos: Arthur! It's about time, son.
Arthur: Sorry, Amos. [Looking at Harry and Ron with an irritated glance, however, Ron just yawns] Some of us had a bit of a sleepy start. [To the group] This is Amos Diggory, everyone. Works with me at the Ministry.
A boy of about sixteen (almost seventeen) with brown hair, Cedric Diggory, jumps out of the tree above Amos.
Arthur: [shaking his hand] And this strapping young lad must be Cedric, am I right?
Cedric Diggory: Yes, sir. [Gesturing along the path] This way.
Hermione and Ginny smirk at each other and gaze at Cedric longingly as Harry walks along the path, and Amos recognizes Harry by his scar.
Amos: Merlin's beard! You must be Harry Potter.
Harry: Yes, sir.
Amos: [shaking his hand] Great, great pleasure.
Harry: Pleasure to meet you too, sir.
Then, Amos recognizes Matthew by his Dragon Ring.
Amos: I can't believe my eyes, the ring of the Prime Merlinean, and you must be him.
Matthew: Uh, yes. I am sir.
Amos: Pleasure to meet you. [Shakes his hand]
Matthew: You too, sir.
Amos nods at Matthew, they later walk up the hill.
Arthur: That's it, just over there.
Ginny races to a dirty, old boot.
Arthur: Shall we?
Amos: Oh, yeah.
Arthur: We don't want to be late.
Amos: Come on. Nearly there now. [To the group] Get yourself into a good position.
Harry: (heavily confused) Why are they all standing around that manky old boot?
Fred Weasley: That isn't just any manky old boot, mate. It's a Portkey.
Arthur: Time to go!
Matthew: What's a Portkey?
Cedric: It's a transportation magic that can allow someone to a specific location when touching it.
Everyone except a befuddled Harry and Matthew place their hands on the boot.
Amos: Ready! After three. One, two...
Arthur: [noticing Harry's hand is not on the Portkey] Harry! Matthew!
Harry and Matthew place their hands on the Portkey.
Amos: Three!
They all scream as they spin around and they transported to a new location.
Arthur: [laughing triumphantly] Let go, kids!
Hermione: [surprised] What?!
Arthur: Let go!
They scream as they fall onto the grass, as Arthur, Amos, and Cedric float in the sky and step onto the grass.
Amos: [jokingly] I'll bet that cleared your sinuses, eh?
Cedric extends his hand to Harry.
Amos: Heh! Total shambles, as per usual.
Harry takes Cedric's hand and gets up.
Harry: Thanks.
Matthew: So, where are we?
They all approach the other side of the hill as festive and cheerful music starts playing.
Arthur: Go on, look at that! Well, kids, welcome to the Quidditch World Cup!
They walk into a crowd, as they see various activities going on around them.
Arthur: Stay together! Keep up, girls!
Hermione and Ginny giggle and Ginny points at something.
Ginny Weasley: Look!
Arthur: Come on! Keep up, girls!
Harry, Matthew, and Ron look amazed at all of the activities and they look to see some wizards flying past them on broomsticks. They duck (along with the rest of the group) to avoid getting knocked back.
Amos: Blimey! [Shaking hands to say goodbye to Arthur] Parting of the ways, I think, old chap.
Arthur: See you at the match.
Arthur: Cedric.
Amos: [to Cedric] Ced!
Fred: See you later, Cedric!
The Weasleys, Harry, Matthew, and Hermione approach a tent, and bagpipe music plays.
Arthur: Home sweet home.
Harry: [confused] What?
Matthew: You've gotta be kidding me.
They go to the tent, and to their surprise, it is many times bigger than the outside.
Arthur: Excellent, excellent.
Hermione: [to Ginny] Ginny, look!
Arthur: [Placing his bag down on an armchair] All to the bath. [To Hermione and Ginny] Girls, choose a bunk and unpack.
Hermione screeches and giggles.
Arthur: [to Ron] Ron, get out of the kitchen. We're all hungry.
Fred and George Weasley: Yeah, get out of the kitchen, Ron.
Arthur: Feet off the table.
Fred and George: [taking their feet off the table] Feet off the table.
Harry and Matthew looked amazed and they had awestruck grins on their faces.
Matthew: Sweet.
Harry: I love magic.
Later at the hillside, heading towards the stadium which has a huge number of seats.
Inside, the Weasleys, Harry, Matthew, and Hermione are high up, trying to find their seats.
Ron: Blimey, Dad! How far up are we?
Lucius Malfoy: [down below with Draco Malfoy] Well, put it this way... if it rains, you'll be the first to know.
Draco Malfoy: Father and I are in the Minister's box... by personal invitation of Cornelius Fudge himself.
Lucius: [hitting Draco with his cane in the chest, and he rubs his chest with his hand] Don't boast, Draco. There's no need with these people.
Harry and the rest of the group turn their backs on him.
Matthew: Figures the Malfoys be here.
???: Well well well, look who's here.
Matthew: Oh no.
???: Oh yes, Stutler.
Matthew turned around and the person was revealed to be Pansy Parkinson.
Matthew: Pansy, why are you here? [mumbles] Besides trying to ruin my life.
Pansy: The same reasons you're here, watching this tournament happening.
Matthew: Let me guess, Malfoy invited you and the others as well.
Pansy: He did.
Matthew rolled his eyes as he turned his back on them.
Matthew: [mumbling] Worse than a Malfoy is a Parkinson.
Then, Lucius caught Matthew's foot with his cane, getting his and others' attention.
Lucius: Do enjoy yourself, won't you? While you can.
Lucius smirks removes his cane from Matthew's foot and leaves with Draco and Pansy. Matthew clenched his fists as he conjured a plasma bolt, but Harry stopped him.
Harry: Take it easy, we're here to enjoy, not to fight.
Matthew: Right. Let's go.
The ceremony begins, balloons fly and fireworks go off.
Arthur: Come on up, take your seats. I told you these seats would be worth waiting for.
Matthew: Cool.
Fred: Come on! [Laughing happily] Whoa!
The players fly with their brooms, causing green and gray smoke to pop out of their broomsticks
Fred: It's the Irish! There's Troy!
Amos: And Mullet!
Fred: And Moran!
Fireworks explode, creating a massive leprechaun, the Irish's mascot, which dances around the sky.
Crowd: [chanting] Ireland! Ireland! Ireland! Ireland! Ireland!
The players fly around the corner, but red players zoom past and destroy the leprechaun mascot, by zooming into it.
Fred: Here come the Bulgarians!
George: Yeah!
They cheer as one player is seen flying and zooming with his broom.
Ginny: Who's that?
Fred: That, sis, is the best Seeker in the world.
A poster of Viktor Krum is shown, as he floats towards the bleachers.
Crowd: [chanting] Krum! Krum! Krum! Krum! Krum! Krum! Krum! Krum! Krum! (A flag appears of Krum.
Harry: [chanting] Krum!
They cheer and intense music plays as Krum appears, pumping his fist.
In the top box, microphone feedback is heard as Cornelius Fudge appears.
Cornelius Fudge: Good evening. As Minister for Magic, it gives me great pleasure... to welcome every one of you to the final of the 422nd Quidditch World Cup! Let the match begin!
He sends a bright white flash of white light to the crowd, causing them to cheer as it floats past the screen.
Nighttime, back to the tent at the Quidditch World Cup campgrounds. Arthur is using a toothpick and lighting it on fire.
Harry, Matthew, and Ron: [chanting] Krum! Krum! Krum! Krum! Krum! Krum!
The group dances around like children as they start celebrating.
Fred and George: Doo-doo-doo-doo♪
People are heard shouting from outside, and Arthur looks worried and goes outside to look.
Ron: There's no one like Krum.
George: Krum? Dumb Krum?
George imitates a bird flying, doing a "wings" motion.
Ron: He's like a bird, the way he rides the wind.
Fred and George: Krum, Krum.
Ron: He's more than an athlete.
Fred and George: [tossing the Ireland flag onto Ron's head] Dumb Krum?
Ron: He's an artist.
Ginny: [smiling teasingly] I think you're in love, Ron.
Ron: Shut up.
Matthew: You're definitely in love.
Ron: You too, Matthew?
Matthew: Heh.
Ron: You're one to talk.
Matthew: What's that supposed to mean?
Ron: Don't think I didn't see you talking to Parkinson.
Matthew: So?
Ron: You still love her.
Matthew: No, I don't.
Fred: [singing] Pansy, I love you
George: [singing] Pansy, I do
All: [singing] When we're apart, my heart beats only for you.
Matthew: I hate you all.
People shouting are heard from outside.
Fred: Sounds like the Irish have got their pride on.
Fred hits Ron with a shirt playfully, as Arthur goes to break it up.
Arthur: Stop! Stop it! It's not the Irish. [To the group] We've gotta get out of here. Now!
Outside, people are heard screaming and running around.
Man: Get out, it's the Death Eaters!
Arthur: Get back to the Portkey, everybody, and stick together!
We see tents burning up as smoke appears through the dark clouds.
Arthur: [To Fred and George] Fred! George! Ginny is your responsibility! Go!
Arthur runs off as Harry stands there, transfixed
Hermione: [to Harry] Harry!
Ron: [to Matthew] Matt!
Harry and Matthew run and follow them as the Death Eaters roar, as people in black, KKK-inspired robes, carrying torches, and chanting indistinctly, as Harry and Matthew run away, to Ron and Hermione.
George: Keep up, you lot!
Harry and Matthew run away.
Hermione: Harry! Matthew!
Harry and Matthew are separated from Ron and Hermione due to the crowd as they see the Death Eaters burn several tents, and people scream and run away in terror, they try running away but fall and gasp, as they are trampled by several people screaming, as the shouts fade, and Harry and Matthew passed out and everything goes black.
The chaos stopped the fires were put out, and a figure kicked over wood, and stoves, as the mysterious man took out his wand and pointed it at the sky.
???: Morsmordre!
A hissing sound is heard as a light green skull and snake coming from its mouth motif, and the man hisses a bit crazily as Harry and Matthew wake up and see the man. Before he walks away, they pant in panic and run off.
Ron: Harry! Matt! Where are you?!
Matthew: Over here!
They follow the voice throughout the commotion.
Ron: We've been looking for you two for ages. Thought we lost you, mate.
Matthew::What is that?
They see the motif in the symbol and Harry touches his scar, wincing in pain. Suddenly...
???: STUPEFY!
A few wizards and witches appear, firing the same spell as they quickly duck down.
Arthur: STOP! THAT'S MY SON!
They ceased fire as the quartet got up.
Arthur: Ron, Harry, Hermione, Matthew, are you all right?
Ron: Came back for Harry and Matthew.
Barty Crouch Sr.: [pointing his wand threateningly at the quartet] Which of you conjured it?
Arthur: Crouch, you can't possi-
Barty Sr.: Do not lie! You've been discovered at the scene of the crime.
Matthew: [confused] Crime?
Arthur: Barty, they're just kids.
Harry: What crime?
Hermione: [whispering] It's the Dark Mark, Harry. It's his mark.
Harry: [surprised] Voldemort? [To Barty Sr. and Arthur] Those people tonight, in the masks, they're his too, aren't they? His followers?
Arthur: [nodding] Yeah. Death Eaters.
Barty Sr.: Follow me.
Harry: [racing towards Barty Sr.] Um, there was a man before.
Pointing at the site where the Dark Mark was cast.
Harry: Uh, there!
Barty Sr.: All of you, this way!
Arthur: A man, Harry? Who?
Harry: I don't know. [Shivering] We didn't see his face.
The quartet looks at the hissing Dark Mark along with the Weasleys in fear and terror.
The Hogwarts Express speeds through the countryside.
Matthew: So much for our weekend.
Assistant: Anything from the trolley? Anything from the trolley?
The assistant appears at their door.
Assistant: Anything from the trolley dears?
Ron: A packet of Drooble's and a... Licorice Wand. [notices he doesn't have enough money] On second thought, j-just the Droobles.
Harry: It's alright I'll get it.
Ron: Just the Drooble's. [to the assistant] Thanks.
He then sits down. Cho Chan walks up to the trolley with her friends.
Cho: Two pumpkin pastries, please.
Matthew and Cho look at each other and smile; the assistant gives her the candy.
Cho: Thank you. Hi, Matt.
Matthew: [voice crack] Hi.
Harry and Ron quietly laugh at his reaction. Matthew clears his throat and tries to act cool.
Matthew: I mean, hi Cho.
Cho giggles at his reaction.
Cho: Good to see you again.
Matthew: Yeah. I like seeing you.
Cho blushes at his comment as she smiles.
Matthew: I mean, not what I mean. But what I meant is, uh...
Cho places her hand on his cheek.
Cho: Calm down, now.
Matthew sighs in relief as Cho smiles.
Cho: So, you're here for the treats for the ride?
Matthew: Uh, yeah.[felt something in his pocket and pulled out a chocolate bar] Apparently, I already got one.
Cho: Used your magic already?
Matthew: [blushes] Heh.
Cho: If you want more, I can get you a few.
Matthew: Uh, no. It's fine. Appreciate it.
Cho: See ya later.[walks with her friends]
Matthew: [warm smile] See ya.
Matthew smiles as he unwraps the chocolate and eats it.
Ron: Is it just me or is it strange that a secret admirer of yours always knows when you're injured?
Matthew: [smirking] Jealous much Ronald?
Ron: What it's just an observation.
Hermione: This is bad. Very bad.
Harry turns and sees Hermione shaking her head darkly behind. The Prophet's SCREAMING FRONT PACE. Harry considers the image of the Dark Mark and the accompanying article: "Dark Mark STIRS OLD FEARS {First Sighting in Thirteen Years}", then eyes the photo of the article's author, Rita Skeeter. Hermione SNAPS shut the paper and stared at Harry.
Hermione: It's hurting again, isn't it? It was hurting that morning too. The day of the World Cup.
Harry: I'm fine.
Hermione: You know Sirius will want to hear about this. What you saw at the World Cup, and the dream.
Matthew: If so, maybe he knows about it.
Harry has written a letter, he marks Sirius Black on an envelope and gives it to Hedwig as she flies out of the window.
Hedwig soars high, leaving the train behind as she knits her way across the sky.
