Chapter 28: Sirius Black
The next morning, everything appears to be murky with smoke.
Professor Trelawney: Relax... Let your mind... Go...
Slowly zooms out to reveal the class with crystal balls, faces reflecting the mist within, so that their very skin seems to be made of smoke.
The students gaze into CRYSTAL BALLS, faces reflecting the mist within so that their very skin seems to be made of smoke. Conspicuously, Harry, Ron, Matthew, and Hermione sit apart.
Professor Trelawney: Crystal-gazing requires that you clear the Inner Eye. Only then, will you... See. Oh my, what do we have here...?
As Trelawney eyes Harry's crystal, Hermione rolls her eyes, and Matthew sounds asleep.
Hermione: Here we go again. It's the Grim! It's the Grim!
Professor Trelawney: [eyes narrowing] My dear, from the moment you first arrived in my class, I sensed that you did not possess the proper spirit for the noble art of Divination. You may be young in years, but the heart that beats beneath your bosom is as shriveled as an old maid's, your soul as dry as the pages of the books to which you so desperately cleave.
Stung, Hermione starts to reply, but remarkably seems incapable of a single word. Rising gracelessly, she exits, knocking her crystal ball to the floor. Harry watches curiously as the ball rolls slowly OUT the doorway.
Matthew: [sleeping]
A hand taps his shoulder to wake him up.
Matthew: [sleeping]
The same hand later pinched his ear.
Matthew: [silently] Ow!
Pansy: [whispering] If you don't want to get in trouble, stay up.
Matthew: [whispering] OK. Jeez.
Pansy: [whispering] Good.
As the students exit, Ron and Matthew, walking separately from Harry, turn to Neville.
Ron: She's gone mental, Hermione has. I mean, not that she wasn't always mental, but now it's out in the open for everyone to see.
Ron and Matthew stop, glance at Harry, and then move off. Harry watches them go, along with the others, then spies
Hermione's crystal ball lying on the landing.
Harry sets Hermione's crystal back on its stand and starts to go when the SMOKE within the crystal suddenly DARKENS. Leaning close, Harry watches the shape that appears. It is unmistakable: Sirius Black.
Just then, a SHADOW crawls the glossy surface of the crystal and HAND SNATCHES Harry's shoulder. He wheels and finds.
Harry: Professor Trelawney...?
Professor Trelawney: He will return tonight...
Harry stiffens. Trelawney's voice is eerily HOLLOW.
Professor Trelawney: Tonight, when the clock strikes twelve, the servant shall break free. He and his Master shall be reunited. It cannot be prevented.
Harry: What...
Trelawney smiles savagely... then her head falls forward.
When it rises, she blinks, eyes the hand that lies upon
Harry's shoulder. Her hand.
Professor Trelawney: So sorry, dear boy. Did you say something?
Her voice is normal once more. Harry shakes his head.
Harry: No. Nothing.
Harry unsettled by his encounter with Trelawney hastens down the stairs.
Later, a scraping sound is heard, and a man is shown as he sits against the tree-like structure in the courtyard, with crows all around him. Harry, Ron, Matthew, and Hermione step out in their causal clothes, and see the man, Walden Macnair, sharpening a massive axe blade.
He looks up at them as they approach; Hermione scowls at him as she walks past, obviously knowing that he intends to use it on Buckbeak. Macnair looks at Harry and grins maliciously as he continues sharpening his axe. Harry, Ron, Matthew, and Hermione walk along the Covered Bridge, heading to Hagrid's cabin.
Hermione: I can't believe they're going to kill Buckbeak! It's too horrible.
Ron: It just got worse.
Matthew: Way worse.
As they reach the other end of the bridge, they see Draco and his pals looking down at Hagrid's house from the hilltop.
Draco: What did I tell you? Father said I can keep the hippogriff's head. I think I'll donate it to the Gryffindor's common room.
Pike and Goyle laugh, while Pansy gives a half-hearted one and Astoria just groans.
Enraged, Hermione quickly walks towards Draco.
Draco: Oh, this is going to be rich.
Crabbe: [seeing Harry and his friends approaching] Look who's here.
Draco: Ah, come to see the show? [happily holds out his arms]
Hermione: You! You foul, loathsome, evil little cockroach!
Hermione points her wand at Malfoy's throat in her rage. Pansy does the same to her.
Pansy: Don't you dare!
Hermione grips her wand.
Ron: Hermione, no! He's not worth it.
Astoria: Pansy, calm down.
Matthew: Put the wand down.
Pansy feels hesitant at first before slowly lowering her wand. Draco stands there whimpering as Hermione keeps her wand against his throat, then lowers it and turns away. Draco chuckles.
Matthew slowly glares at Draco as his hand slowly makes a fist. Draco turns around, before something hard hits him on the jaw, falling flat on his back.
All: [gasps]
Matthew was standing forward with his fist in front, hair covering his eyes.
Crabbe: [as he and Pike help Draco to his feet] Malfoy, are you okay?
Draco: [rubs his sore jawline] Just shut up, and get me to medic.
Crabbe: Let's go! Quick!
They bring Draco away from the scene while everyone else is still surprised about Matthew's punch.
Draco: [as he and his friends run to the bridge] Not a word to anyone. Understood? I'm gonna get that jumped-up American! Mark my words!
Matthew: [to his friends] That felt good.
Ron: Not good. Brilliant.
Harry: Never see that in you.
Hermione: Thank you, Matthew.
Matthew: No problem.[to Astoria and Pansy] Sorry you have to see that.
Astoria: Nothing we haven't seen before, but this is new.
Matthew: I know.
Astoria: Your hand is hurting isn't it?
Matthew: [in pain] [nodded] Hmm hmm. Ooooooooow.[holds his right hand]
Pansy: First time you ever punched someone?
Matthew: Yeah.
Harry: How about we go while your hand gets better?
Matthew: Right.
Astoria: We'll go too. See you around.[leaves with Pansy]
Hermione: Matthew?
Matthew: Yeah?
Hermione: Thanks again. It was sweet of you. Stupid but sweet. [Kisses his cheek] That's for being a good friend.
Matthew looks surprised by the peck on his cheek but smiles.
Matthew: Y- You're welcome.
The four of them then head down the steps to Hagrid's house, walking past Buckbeak, who's chained up in the pumpkin patch, awaiting his approaching execution.
At the hut, Hagrid stands by the window watching Buckbeak. Harry, Matthew, and Ron sit as Hermione makes tea.
Hagrid: [as he and Harry look out the window at Buckbeak] Oh, look at him. Loves the smell of the trees when the wind blows through 'em.
Harry: Why don't we just set him free?
Hagrid: [wishing he could, but knows that he can't] They'd know it was me, and then Dumbledore would get into trouble. He's coming down, you know, Dumbledore. Says he wants to be with me when they... when it happens. [walking away from the window] Great man, Dumbledore. Great man.
Hagrid's flobberworm squeals; he throws it a piece of food, which it eats in one bite.
Hermione: We'll stay with you, too, Hagrid.
Hagrid: You'll do no such thing! [points at the window] Think I want you seeing something like that? No! You just drink your tea and be off. Oh. Before you do, Ron...
Hagrid picks up a plastic container opens it and pulls Scabbers out.
Ron: [overjoyed to see his rat alive] Scabbers. You're alive! [takes Scabbers from Hagrid]
Hagrid: You want to keep a closer eye on your pets, Ron.
Hermione: [as Ron turns around] I think that means you owe someone an apology.
Ron: Right. Next time I see Crookshanks, I'll let him know.
Hermione: I meant me.
Suddenly, the vase on the table breaks.
Hagrid: Blimey. What was that?
Hermione looks closely and finds a small rock with a snail shell pattern on it. A rock hits Harry in the back of the head.
Harry: Ow.
He turns around and looks out the window.
Harry: Hagrid.
Harry beckoned Hagrid to the window.
Hagrid: [walking to the window and looking out] Oh, crikey.
Fudge, Dumbledore, and Macnair are walking towards Hagrid's house, talking; Fudge glances at Buckbeak as he goes.
Dumbledore: No, Minister. Over this way.
Hagrid: Yeh got to go! It's almost dark. Anyone sees yeh outside the castle it'll be trouble! Big trouble! 'Specially you, Harry.
There is a knock at the door.
Hagrid: With you in a moment. [throwing the blanket over his flobberworm] Quick. Quick!
Matthew, Ron, and Hermione head for the back door as Dumbledore knocks on the door again.
Harry: Hagrid. It'll be fine. It'll be okay.
Hagrid smiles slightly at Harry's attempt to give him emotional support.
Hagrid: Go on. Go on!
Dumbledore comes in as Hermione opens the back door.
Dumbledore: That's the ling you can see over there on the slope.
The quartet quickly exits the hut as the front door slowly opens.
Dumbledore: Ah, Hagrid.
Hagrid: Good evening, Professor Dumbledore.
Fudge graciously steps inside.
Hagrid: Minister, just make your way through. Have a tea if you like.
Fudge: [obviously not thirsty] No, Hagrid.
Dumbledore and Macnair follow him inside.
Fudge: Gentlemen...
Balthazar: [arrived] Sorry, I'm late.
Dumbledore: Anything that keeps you occupied, Balthazar?
Fudge: Well, I think we should get down to our business, shall we? Very well. It is the decision of the Committee for the Disposal of Dangerous Creatures that the hippogriff known as Buckbeak, hereafter called "The Condemned", shall be executed this day at sundown.
Hagrid: Dear, dear...
As they talk, the quartet sneaks away from the hut.
Dumbledore: Now, now, Hagrid. It'll be all right.
Fudge: [as Harry, Matthew, Ron, and Hermione continue eavesdropping from the pumpkin patch] The executioner shall dispatch the condemned through beheading.
Hermione hears a twig snap behind her and turns around.
Harry: What?
Hermione: I thought I just saw... Never mind.
Ron: Let's go.
As Harry, Matthew, Ron, and Hermione run towards the steps leading back to the castle, Buckbeak suddenly looks up. Ron glances back at him as they go.
Hagrid: Buckbeak didn't mean any harm.
Buckbeak lets out an uneasy bray as he watches the four teenagers running back to the castle. Harry takes a last look at Buckbeak before racing after Ron, Matthew, and Hermione up the castle stairs. From the hilltop, Ron, Matthew, Hermione, and Harry look down at Hagrid's house. Hagrid, Balthazar, and Dumbledore are standing on the front steps of the house, Fudge is standing right in front of the steps, and Macnair faces them, standing just inches from the pumpkin patch.
Dumbledore points at the pumpkin patch; as he turns to go inside the cabin, Macnair raises his axe and walks toward Buckbeak, hidden from view by the trees. Hagrid sadly takes a last look at his feathered friend, then turns to go inside his house. Harry, Ron, Matthew, and Hermione watch with mounting tension; even Scabbers seems a little skittish. Hermione closes her eyes briefly and murmurs.
She silently gasps as she sees Macnair lift his axe above his head, tilt it backward, and then bring it down with lightning speed. A chopping sound is heard; the execution has been carried out. The crows that have been hanging around Macnair fly away, squawking and cawing. Ron presumably sees Buckbeak's blood on the axe blade as Macnair lifts his axe.
Ron: Oh, no.
Hermione turns and cries on Ron's shoulder. Harry puts his head on Hermione's shoulder. Matthew rubs her back with care. Scabbers is sinking his teeth into Ron's finger, causing him to let go of the rat in pain.
Ron: Ow!
Scabbers runs off.
Ron: He bit me. Scabbers. [chases after his rat]
Hermione: Ron? RON! [She, Matthew, and Harry both follow Ron]
Harry: Ron!
Ron: Scabbers! Come back!
Matthew: Ron! Wait!
They went further as the rat wasn't stopping. Ron catches hold of Scabbers right next to the Whomping Willow.
Ron: Scabbers!
Hermione: Harry, Matthew, you two realize what tree this is.
Harry: That's not good.
Matthew: Ron, run!
The tree slowly lowers its branches at Ron, catching his attention.
Ron: Harry, Matt, Hermione, run!
The giant black dog is standing right behind them.
Ron: It's the Grim!
The dog lunges forward, jumping over Harry, Matthew, and Hermione. The dog grabs Ron by the leg and drags him off. Harry, Matthew, and Hermione chase after them.
Ron: Harry!
Harry: Ron! Ron, wait!
Ron: Harry! Help!
Harry: Ron!
Matthew: Ron, hang on!
The dog pulls Ron down a secret passageway under the Whomping Willow.
Harry: Ron! Ron!
Hermione: Ron!
Harry, Matthew, and Hermione try to follow, but one of the tree's branches pushes them away.
Harry: Come on!
Harry, Matthew, and Hermione try to reach the tree, dodging the branches and attacking them.
Harry: Move!
They avoid getting hit by a pair of branches.
Hermione: Duck!
Not reacting in time, Harry gets knocked over, causing his glasses to fall off. A branch hits Hermione and Matthew, and they cling to it as they fly through the air screaming. Harry fumbles to find his glasses, which he finally does.
Hermione: Harry!
Harry puts them back in as he sees his friends in trouble. As they fly by on a branch, Hermione grabs Harry by his shirt, sending three of them flying through the air. Hermione lets go of the branch at just the right time for them to fall into the secret passageway, where they crash land.
Hermione: Oh, I'm sorry.
Harry: Don't worry.
They get up.
Matthew: Where do you suppose this goes?
Harry: I have a hunch. I just hope I'm wrong.
Harry, Matthew, and Hermione head down the secret passageway.
Harry, Matthew, and Hermione emerge from the floor into an old house.
Hermione: We're in the Shrieking Shack, aren't we?
Harry: Come on.
Harry leads Hermione and Matthew up a staircase towards the sound of Ron whimpering. They soon reach a room where Ron is sitting on the floor.
Harry: Ron!
Hermione: Ron, you're okay!
Harry: The dog, where is it?
Ron: Harry, it's a trap! He's the dog! He's an Animagus!
Ron points at the dog prints on the floor. Harry, Matthew, and Hermione follow them right up to... the feet of Sirius Black;
Sirius closes the door and approaches the quartet. Hermione and Matthew get in front of Harry.
Hermione: If you want to kill Harry, you'll have to kill us too!
Sirius: No, only one will die tonight.
Harry: [pushing Hermione and Matthew aside] Then it'll be you!
Harry grabs Sirius and forces him to the floor then points his wand at him.
Sirius: [smiling widely] Heh, heh. Are you going to kill me, Harry? Heh, heh.
Lupin: [bursting in the door] Expelliarmus!
Harry's wand is knocked out of his hand. Lupin gestures for Harry to move aside, and he obediently steps back. Wand still raised, Lupin approaches Sirius.
Lupin: Well, well, Sirius, looking rather ragged, aren't we? Finally, the flesh reflects the madness within.
Sirius: Well, you'd know all about the madness within, wouldn't you, Remus?
Lupin lowers his wand, helps Sirius to his feet, and hugs him.
Sirius: I found him!
Lupin: I know.
Sirius: It's him!
Lupin: I understand.
Sirius: Let's kill him!
Hermione: No! I trusted you, and all this time, you've been his friend! [points at Lupin] He's a werewolf! That's why he's been missing classes!
Lupin: How long have you known?
Hermione: Since Professor Snape set the essay.
Lupin: Well, well, well, Hermione, you really are the brightest witch of your age I've ever met.
Sirius: Enough talk, Remus! Come on, let's kill him!
Lupin: Wait!
Sirius: I DID MY WAITING! TWELVE YEARS OF IT! IN AZKABAN!
Lupin looks back and forth between the quartet and Sirius. Eventually, he hands his wand over to Sirius.
Lupin: Very well, kill him, but wait one more minute. Harry has the right to know why.
Harry: I know why. You betrayed my parents. You're the reason they're dead.
Lupin: No, Harry, it wasn't him. Somebody did betray your parents, but it was somebody who, until quite recently, I believed to be dead!
Harry: Who was it then?
Sirius: Peter Pettigrew. And he's in this room right now. Come out, come out, Peter! Come out, come out, and play!
Snape: [bursting in the door] Expelliarmus! [Sirius is disarmed.] Oh, vengeance is sweet! How I hoped I'd be the one to catch you.
Lupin: Severus.
Snape: I told Dumbledore you were helping an old friend into the castle, and now, here's the proof.
Sirius: Brilliant, Snape. Once again, you've put your keen and penetrating mind to the task, and as usual, come to the wrong conclusion. Now if you'll excuse us, Remus and I have some unfinished business to attend to.
Snape: [puts his wand to Sirius's neck] Give me a reason... I beg you.
Lupin: Severus, don't be a fool.
Sirius: He can't help it. It's a habit by now.
Lupin: Sirius, be quiet.
Sirius: Be quiet yourself, Remus!
Snape: Oh, listen to you two, quarreling like an old married couple.
Sirius: Why don't you run along and play with your chemistry set?
Snape: I could do it, you know, but why deny it the Dementors? They're so longing to see you. Do I detect a flicker of fear? Oh, yes. A Dementor's Kiss, one can only imagine what that must be like to endure. It's said to be nearly unbearable to witness, but I'll do my best.
Lupin: Severus, please!
Harry takes Hermione's wand.
Snape: [gesturing Sirius towards the door] After you.
Harry raises the wand in front of him. Sirius thinks he's going to get hit, but Harry aims for Snape instead.
Harry: Expelliarmus!
Snape is blasted backward into an old bed and is knocked unconscious.
Matthew: Harry, are you nuts?!
Ron: Harry, what did you just do?!
Hermione: You attacked a teacher!
Harry: [to Sirius and Lupin] Tell me about Peter Pettigrew!
Lupin: He was at school with us. We thought he was our friend.
Harry: No. Pettigrew died. He killed him
As he points at Black, he laughs mirthlessly.
Lupin: [getting in front of Harry] No, Harry, I thought so too until you mentioned seeing Pettigrew on the Map.
Harry: The Map was lying then.
Sirius: The Map never lies. Pettigrew's alive. And he's right there. [points in Ron's direction]
Ron: Me? He's mental!
Sirius: Not you, your rat!
Ron: Scabbers has been in my family for--.
Sirius: Twelve years. Curiously long life for a common garden rat. He's missing a toe, isn't he?
Ron: So what?
Harry: All they could find of Pettigrew was his-.
Sirius: Finger! The dirty coward cut it off so that everyone would think he was dead, and then he transformed into a rat!
Harry: Show me. [as Sirius and Lupin wrestle Scabbers away from Ron.
Harry: Give it to him, Ron.
Ron: What are you trying to do to him? [as they take Scabbers away] Scabbers! Leave him alone! Get off him! What are you doing?
After being set down on a piano, Scabbers runs across it and down to the floor. Before he can get away, Sirius's spell hits him, and he transforms into a human man with a missing finger.
Ron is stunned as Sirius and Lupin pull Pettigrew to his feet.
Pettigrew: Remus? Sirius? My old friends!
He tries to make a break for the door, but the other two grab him and push him back into the room. Pettigrew then turns to Harry. His hands flutter nervously, revealing a missing index finger.
Pettigrew: Harry, look at you. You look so much like your father, like James. We were the best of friends!
Harry is repulsed.
Sirius: How dare you speak to Harry!
Pettigrew runs behind the piano.
Sirius: How dare you talk about James in front of him!
Sirius and Lupin corner Pettigrew behind the piano.
Lupin: You sold James and Lily to Voldemort, didn't you?
Pettigrew: I didn't mean to! The Dark Lord, you have no idea the weapons he possesses. Ask yourself, Sirius, what would you have done? What would you have done?
Sirius: I would have died!
Pettigrew tries to escape under the piano.
Sirius: I would have died rather than betray my friends!
Harry moves in front of the doorway to block Pettigrew's escape.
Pettigrew: Harry, James wouldn't have wanted me killed. Your dad, your dad would have spared me. He would have shown me mercy!
Sirius and Lupin grab Pettigrew and pull him back into the center of the room.
Sirius: You should have realized, Peter, that if Voldemort didn't kill you, then we would! Together!
Harry: No!
Lupin: Harry, this man--.
Harry: I know what he is, but we'll take him to the castle.
Pettigrew: [kneeling to Harry] Bless you, boy, bless you!
Harry: Get off! I said we'd take you to the castle. After that, the Dementors can have you.
Pettigrew quivers with fear. Sirius and Harry are helping Ron back through the passageway Hermione and Matthew are following behind.
Sirius: Sorry about the bite. I reckon that twinges a bit.
Ron: A bit? A bit?! You almost tore my leg off!
Sirius: I was going for the rat. Normally, I have a very sweet disposition as a dog. In fact, more than once James suggested that I make the change permanent. The tail I could live with, but the fleas- They're murder.
Exiting the cave Sirius sets Ron down by the Whomping Willow, before walking over to the cliffside to see Hogwarts.
Ron: You better go.
Harry: No, no, don't worry, okay? It's fine, I'll stay.
Matthew: No, I'll be the one staying.
Hermione: You two go, I'll stay.
Harry: [placing a hand on Ron's shoulder] You okay?
Ron: I'll be fine. Go.
Harry leaves them.
Hermione: Ow. That looks painful.
Ron: So painful. They uh... They might chop it.
Hermione: I'm sure Madam Pomfrey will fix it in a heartbeat.
Ron: It's too late, it's ruined. It'll have to be chopped off.
Harry joins Sirius, who's mesmerized by the Hogwarts.
Sirius: It's beautiful isn't it? I'll never forget the first time I walked through those doors. It'll be nice to do it again as a free man. That was a noble thing you did back there. He doesn't deserve it.
Harry: Well, I just didn't think my dad would have wanted his two best friends to become killers. Besides, dead, the truth dies with him. Alive, you're free.
Pettigrew: Turn me into a maggot. Dung beetle. Flobberworm!
Lupin: Shh![dragged Pettigrew]
Pettigrew: Anything but the dementors!
Lupin: Shh!
Pettigrew: [to Ron] Ron, ha-haven't I been a good friend, a good pet? You won't let them give me to the dementors, will you? I was your rat! [to Hermione] Oh, sweet girl! Clever girl! Surely you won't let them take me! [to Matthew] Neither would you, right bo-.
Matthew: [whispering] Silentium!
Pettigrew tries to talk but not a single word escapes his mouth.
Lupin: Thank you, Mr. Stutler.
Sirius: I don't know if you know, Harry, but when you were born... James and Lily made me your godfather.
Harry: I know.
Sirius: And I can understand if you choose to stay with your aunt and uncle... But if you ever wanted a different home...
Harry: What, come and live with you?
Sirius: Well, well, it was... It's-It's just a thought. I can understand if you don't want to.
Hermione: Harry!
Harry turns and sees Hermione staring at the FULL MOON. His eyes shift. Lupin is a rigid silhouette, his fingers twitching.
Sirius: Remus, old friend... did you take your potion tonight?
Lupin, twitching, SHAKES HIS HEAD. Pettigrew's eyes dart, taking in the situation, then slowly shift, note the WAND trembling in LUPIN'S LENGTHENING FIST.
Sirius: You know the man you truly are, Remus! This heart is where you truly live! This heart, here!
Matthew helps Ron up along with Hermione, Harry joins them.
Sirius: This flesh is only flesh!
As Lupin's WAND DROPS... Pettigrew LEAPS.
Matthew: Expelliarmus!
Lupin's wand flies from Pettigrew's hand and he FREEZES. Then slowly turns. Face blank, eyes closed, he GRINS HIDEOUSLY. Transforms.
Stunned, Harry and his friends watch a RAT dart into the night.
Sirius: Remus! Remus!
Harry tries to run but Hermione stops him. Lupin's hands slowly grow bigger with claws appearing as his voice deepens, clothing rips apart as his legs become canine-like, hair growing as his face becomes a wolf, while Sirius pleads him.
Sirius: Run! Run!
Lupin becomes a werewolf as he throws Sirius aside.
The kids start to run, but Hermione stops them.
Hermione: Wait!
She walks closer to Lupin]
Ron: Hermione! [whispering] Bad idea, bad idea, bad...
Hermione: Professor? Professor Lupin?
The werewolf Lupin made dog-like whines, before howling at the moon, becoming feral, shocking everyone.
Ron: [scared] Nice doggie, nice doggie.
Snape: [heading over to them from the entrance] There you are, Potter!
The werewolf growls at them, catching Snape's attention as he turns around and almost shares the same reaction with the students. Snape puts the quarter behind him.
Just as the feral Lupin swings his arm, causing them to fall to the ground. Sirius in dog form charges at Lupin and tumbles him back. The two fight as Lupin throws Sirius away from the group he takes a step towards them, only for Sirius to bite its elbow before making it chase him away from them.
Harry: Sirius!
Harry loosens himself from Snape's grip and runs after the wolves.
Matthew: Harry, wait! Stop![following Harry]
Snape: Come back here, Stutler!
Matthew follows Harry behind the boulder as he stops to see the fight between the wolves continue. The werewolf falters, cocking its head toward the forest.
Harry and Matthew wait, petrified. The WEREWOLF's eyes shift back to the duo. It SNARLS, moves closer, ready to kill them. They cover their faces with their arms when a SECOND HOWL ECHOES high above the forest.
Slowly, they drop their arms. Looks. The werewolf bounds toward the forest and vanishes. Harry's eyes shift. In the darkness, the wounded dog lurches through the tall grass. Falls. Rises. Falls again. Each time becoming more
human. As he disappears over the ridge, Harry and Matthew sprint after.
They follow Sirius to the deep part of the forest before stopping at the lake, and seeing Sirius on the ground.
Harry: Sirius! Sirius!
Matthew: Is he...?
They both heard something as they looked at the lake to see it slowly getting frozen, Sirius slowly woke up but shouted in fear as Harry and Matthew looked up to see they were not alone, the Dementors had followed them.
Matthew: Harry?
Harry: Prepare yourself!
Harry and Matthew brought out their wands. They hold their wands up as Dementors go closer to them.
Harry: Think of the happiest memories and say Expecto Patronum!
Matthew: What?!
Harry: Trust me!
Matthew: Ok!
Harry and Matthew: Expecto Patronum!
The Dementors went close but their magic creates a barrier as it repels them back. But it's not powerful enough. The spell disappeared.
Harry and Matthew: AGGGGGHHH!!!
The Dementors go to the two as it leaves behind a spectral trail before leaving them. More Dementors attacks. The Dementors release magic from their faces as it goes on the three, sucking the life out of them.
The three of them are screaming in pain. They all scream as Sirius slowly becomes silent. Harry and Matthew saw his soul leaving him.
The Dementors surrounding them. As the Dementors slowly go closer, from a distance, they see what appears to be light in the shape of a deer.
Then, the dear unleashes its aura of Patronus Charm.
It was incredibly strong that it pushed the Dementors away, and then Sirius' soul returned to his body. Harry and Matthew passed out before Harry got a glimpse of the mysterious person who saved them. Before slowly going dark he fell unconscious.
