From Old French: arester= stop and from Latin: momentum= movement

The slowing spell (Arresto Momentum) is a spell that can be used to slow down the speed of an object. It is taught in the second and fifth year of Charms classes at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
Albus Dumbledore used this spell to slow the falling Harry after he was attacked by Dementors during a Quidditch match between Gryffindor and Hufflepuff.
