Chocolate Hearts: Original
...
This, as stated in the title, is the original of Chocolate Hearts before I rewrote it!
....
This has a lot of timeskipping because I needed the beginning but also needed it to be in the later years for the main storyline to happen. Also, I realized when I was writing this that a name got a bit confusing with Thompson's dormmate, Avery. Avery in this isn't a first name, it's the same Avery from "I Don't". Anyways, hope you like it!
...
I was running through a dark forest. Rustling and snarls followed behind, rapidly approaching but never in view when I looked back. I dodged around trees, leapt over roots, and stumbled down slopes.
My foot snagged on a root I hadn't spotted in time and I fell to the ground with a shout. I heard the thing come out of the undergrowth and approach me. I turned just in time to see it lunge towards me with huge snapping jaws when -
"Honey! Breakfast!" I sat up with a gasp to hear Mum's tired voice downstairs.
"Coming!"
I covered my face with my pillow and groaned into it. It was a Saturday morning, why, just why couldn't I sleep in? I threw my pillow aside, not caring to see where it had landed in my room, and rolled off my bed before sprawling onto the fluffy rug that took up most of my floor space.
I am not at all a morning person.
I lay there for a good five minutes before I stood up and left my bedroom, shutting my door behind me. I climbed down the stairs and entered the kitchen to see Mum placing a plate of bacon onto the table while Dad wrestled Carina, my toddler sister, into a high chair, at the same time trying to keep Jasmine, the family owl, away from the toast.
I slid into a seat and Jasmine flew to my shoulder, hooting in my ear. I smiled and waited for Dad to finish with Carina and for Mum to sit down before reaching for some scrambled eggs. As I served myself I realized Mum was sending looks at Dad.
I frowned and set my fork down, "Mum?"
She sighed and looked at me, "Honey..."
"Yes?"
She hesitated before handing a letter to me. Written on the outside of the envelope in sapphire ink was something I thought I'd never see.
Ms. Thompson
The medium-sized bedroom
952 Mahogany Lane
Godric's Hollow
I looked up at my parents in utter shock. I had already guessed what the letter was for but why? I was... I was a monstrosity no parent would want near their child so why had I been accepted into the most prestigious magic school? I stared at the letter for what seemed like a long time before I mustered the courage to act.
I blew a strand of hair out of my face and reread the words on the outside before carefully breaking the wax seal. I reached in and pulled out the letter inside, holding it carefully as I eagerly read the words. I relished the moment, despite knowing the dangers if I actually accepted.
HOGWARTS SCHOOL of WITCHCRAFT and WIZARDRY
Headmaster: Albus Dumbledore
(Order of Merlin, First Class, Grand Sorc., Chf. Warlock, Supreme Mugwump, International Confed. of Wizards)
Dear Ms. Thompson,
We are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Please find enclosed a list of all necessary books and equipment.
Term begins on 1 September. We await your owl by no later than 31 July.
Yours sincerely,
Minerva McGonagall
Deputy Headmistress
I carefully folded the letter back up and pushed it into the envelope, staring at Mum, "How?"
She took the outstretched letter and looked at the inked words on the outside before whispering, "I don't know."
"What're we going to do about... about you know?"
"Your father said he contacted Professor Dumbledore and that there's a plan made for you," she tossed the letter onto the counter behind her.
"This is boring," Carina whined, listening to our conversation while eating.
I turned my attention to Dad, ignoring my sister, who had been watching Mum's and I conversation closely and quietly, "Is this true?"
"Yes, he made arrangements," at my look, he continued, "They're going to build a... house of sorts. You'll go there on the full moons."
I let out a breath and reached to stroke Jasmine, "I'm really going, then?"
"You are," my parents agreed.
"Going where?" Carina butted in again.
A slow grin spread across my face and I started to happily eat my breakfast while Mum tackled the task of explaining to Carina what Hogwarts was when Dad leaned in and whispered, "You'd better be in Slytherin like your old man, if you are, I'll buy you anything you'd like from Diagon Alley."
I laughed, "What if I'm a Ravenclaw like Mum?"
"Then I'll take you to on a trip to Italy or something," Mum butt in, obviously having heard Dad's and I conversation.
"Ooh, Italy sounds amazing," I commented.
Carina looked up, "I want to go to Italy!"
I nudged her, "Offer is only for me, sorry."
She glared at me while Dad turned to Mum and they started an argument about who I was most like. I sat and watched, amused, while eating my breakfast and stealing glances towards the letter that sat casually on the counter as if it were nothing.
...
A month and a half later I found myself running towards a solid-looking wall. I flinched before the impact but found none. I had just stepped onto a magical platform with a scarlet steam train with the words Hogwarts Express on it. I looked around in wonder as I waited for my parents and sister to join me.
They didn't leave me waiting for long and we set off to find a compartment. Carina continuously tugged on my jacket to bother me with questions as we looked into each compartment window. Most of them were full but, eventually, we were able to find an empty one, which I climbed into despite Carina's protests and hauled my trunk up after me before turning to wave to my parents.
The train took off and I lifted my trunk onto the overhead storage before settling onto one of the seats. I watched as we pulled out of the station and set off into the countryside. Eventually, I turned away and rummaged through my bag when the door slid open and a red-haired girl poked her head inside.
"Excuse me, is it all right if I sit here?" she asked, "Everywhere else is full, or they don't want me to sit there."
"Of course," I gestured to the seat across from me and she sat down after closing the door, "What's your name?"
"Lily Evans, you?"
"Thompson," I replied, returning to rummaging through my bag.
We sat in silence until I found what I was looking for, a box of chocolates, and opened them before offering it to Lily. She looked surprised for a moment but took one of them.
"Oh, also, I think one of my friends might join us soon," she said after finishing the chocolate.
I popped one of the chocolates into my mouth, "That's perfectly fine."
A few minutes later the door slid open again and a black-haired boy came in. Lily smiled at him, "That's Severus, Severus, this is Thompson."
I smiled at him and he sat down next to Lily.
The rest of the train ride went well and when we pulled to a stop, we all climbed out and headed towards the place where they were calling first years. We were led to boats and the three of us clambered into one.
The boats set off across the lake and soon, our first view of Hogwarts appeared. It was breathtaking in many ways. The boats skimmed across the water and soon they stopped and we all got out before heading through huge doors.
We were led into a vast entry hall before being herded into a smaller room. A professor with hair in a tight bun, "Welcome to Hogwarts. The start-of-term banquet will begin shortly, but before you take your seats in the Great Hall, you will be sorted into your houses. The Sorting is a very important ceremony because, while you are here, your house will be something like your family within Hogwarts. You will have classes with the rest of your house, sleep in your house dormitory, and spend free time in your house common room.
"The four houses are called Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin. Each house has its own noble history and each has produced outstanding witches and wizards. While you are at Hogwarts, your triumphs will earn your house points, while any rulebreaking will lose house points. At the end of the year, the house with the most points is awarded the house cup, a great honor. I hope each of you will be a credit to whichever house becomes yours.
"The Sorting Ceremony will take place in a few minutes in front of the rest of the school. I suggest you all smarten yourselves up as much as you can while you are waiting. I shall return when we are ready for you," she finished. "Please wait quietly."
She left the chamber and everyone immediately started to chatter amongst themselves in worried tones. How were we sorted? I glanced at Lily and Severus, "Which houses do you both want to be in?"
"I don't know, Severus told me Slytherin and Gryffindor are usually the best houses. He also told me Slytherin is better but I like the sound of Gryffindor," Lily answered.
"My dad wants me in Slytherin, my mum wants me in Ravenclaw," I responded then turned to Severus, "What about you?"
"Slytherin," he replied without hesitation.
"Move along now," said a sharp voice. "The Sorting Ceremony's about to start."
the professor had returned, "Now, form a line and follow me."
We all trailed after her as they walked out and back into the hall before a pair of double doors were thrown open to reveal the Great Hall.
I looked around in wonder and noticed the other first years doing the same. Thousands of candles floated above four long tables where everyone else was sitting. The tables were covered in glittering golden plates and goblets. In the front there was another table where the teachers were sitting.
I turned my gaze to the professor as she placed a four-legged stool in the front along with a wizard's hat.
The sorting hat.
The hat twitched and a rip near the brim opened into a mouth. It burst into song and everyone clapped afterwards. A singing hat was quite cool, after all.
"When I call your name, you will put on the hat and sit on the stool to be sorted," the professor announced before calling the first name.
A few moments later after the first person was sorted into Hufflepuff, the next student, someone Avery, went up to place the hat on her head. She sat stiffly for a few moments before the hat called out, "Slytherin!"
The table decked out in green and silver cheered as she took off the hat to join them. The sorting continued then Lily's name was called.
"Evans, Lily!"
She approached the stool and sat down, placing the hat on her head. The hat thought for a moment then announced, "Gryffindor!"
I cheered with everyone else and smiled as she went past Severus and I. When almost everyone had gone, it was Severus' turn.
"Snape, Severus!"
He put the hat on his head and sat down. Seconds later, the hat made it's decision, "Slytherin!"
I clapped for him but was suddenly nervous. Was I going to join a house with one of my friends or be alone? My name was announced and I sat down on the wooden stool. Placing the hat on my head, I took a deep breath. The hat remained silent before shouting, "Slytherin!"
I grinned and joined Severus at the table, looking around at the other first-years.
My time at Hogwarts had just begun.
...
The first few weeks were filled with fun classes and exploring the castle. The changing staircases, hidden passageways, and fake doors were fun to see during free time but not when you were in a hurry to get to a lesson.
I spent a lot of time with Lily and Severus because I was a bit too shy to approach other people.
The first full moon was coming up and Professor Dumbledore asked me to go to his office, which I did.
When I arrived I stated the password he'd given me and a staircase was revealed that moved upwards. I stepped onto it and it took me up to his office. His office was covered in odd trinkets and portraits of previous headmasters.
Dumbledore himself sat behind his desk and smiled when he saw me, "Miss Thompson, take a seat."
I crossed the room and sat down on one of the chairs hesitantly.
"So, to address your... furry problem, I've had a house built with a passageway under the Whomping Willow we planted this summer. You will go there on full moons. One thing, however, is that the house will be split into two since there is another there."
I blinked at him. Another? Another? There was another werewolf? I blew hair out of my eyes before asking, "Who's the other werewolf?"
"I'm afraid I can't give you that information, at the moment, since it isn't my secret to tell," his blue eyes met mine, "You may go now, I think lunch is being served."
I nodded, "Thank you, professor."
I left his office with my head spinning. Another werewolf? I wondered if I'd ever meet him or if it would remain a secret. I would love to talk to them! Were they born a werewolf, like me? Or were they bitten, like my mum? I headed down to the Great Hall with my brain racing for answers that I couldn't get.
...
The full moon was on a Thursday evening and I found myself having to sneak out of the dorm. My dormmates had fallen asleep quickly so I just had to move silently. I got out of bed and headed down the stairs and out into the common room.
Exiting the common room, I checked the hallways for prefects or teachers before setting off. I made my way out onto the grounds. I headed out to the Whomping Willow and enchanted a stick to press the knot on the trunk, just how I had been instructed.
I climbed into the tunnel and, after a long walk, emerged in a house. I went to the left half of it and settled onto a rug in the living room. Sitting in a chair was useless anyway.
Around half an hour later, the moon had risen and I felt the change start to happen. I doubled over in pain and I watched as fur crept along my skin. My hands and feet became paws ending in sharp claws.
A few painful minutes passed and I was left laying on the ground until the feeling passed. Then I was all anger.
I stood and slashed at the rug below me, letting out a howl. To my surprise, an answering howl came from behind me. I turned and threw myself against the door, which had been locked by magic after I entered.
I stepped back then launched forward at the door again, which remained stubbornly shut again. I heard the other werewolf doing the same. I remember the desperation I felt. Werewolves were pack animals, we needed company.
Eventually, I wore myself out and decided to curl up near the door, where I stayed for the rest of the night.
...
After I transformed back I left the house and went back through the tunnel. I had waited a bit for signs of the other person leaving but they hadn't, so I decided to go since they were probably waiting for me to leave first. I climbed into the tunnel and set off down it, eventually emerging at the exit.
I suddenly remembered something and reached into my robe's pocket, pulling out two bars of chocolate. I glanced at them before placing one at the tunnel entrance for the other person. Chocolate always helped me, so why not them?
I was utterly exhausted as I headed back to the castle, leaving the Whomping Willow behind while unwrapping my bar of chocolate and breaking a piece off. I ate the chocolate as I entered the castle and set off towards the Hospital Wing, which took a long time because I had to do a lot of hiding to avoid prefects, teachers, and Peeves.
I pushed the door open and Madam Pomfrey immediately hurried me over to a bed, handed me a glass of water and chocolate, then promptly pulled curtains around my bed.
Ten minutes later or so, the doors opened again and I saw the shadow of Madam Pomfrey ushering the person to another bed and give them the same things she gave me.
It continued that way until fifth year, surprisingly. I can't believe I hadn't let my curiosity get the better of me before then.
...
For the past couple years, I'd noticed that the other werewolf stopped responding to my howls. In my werewolf form, I didn't realize it but after I'd turned back into a human, my brain was able to figure out that the other one left. They would leave the house with it's company.
It's company were it's friends in animagus form, because what else could they be? They would stay with him during full moons and I could hear them either moving around the other side of the house or leaving it with quick but planned out movements.
It made my werewolf form feel lonely.
I would often emerge from the transformation to realize I'd torn the whole place apart, then I would have to take out my wand and fix it for the next full moon.
That night was the same.
I sat quietly on the rug while I heard the people in the other side of the home talking and laughing. I pulled a loose thread from the rug as I waited for the full moon to rise. Sometimes, I just wanted it to happen so it could be over while other times I wanted to put off the pain.
The transformation began and I clutched my side with my hand until it became a furry paw. The transformation was always way more painful than the aches and scratches afterwards. When it ended, I stood and went over to the door.
I could hear the other werewolf, other paw steps, hooves, and small paws moving about. My brain at the time didn't comprehend it though. I released a howl and the animals moving around stopped then... an answering howl.
I returned to the rug and dug my claws into it, suddenly snarling. Werewolves' mood changed very easily. I tore the rug into pieces before butting one of the chairs aside. I continued to destroy the room until I tired myself out again.
I had torn the rug into tiny pieces so I settled down onto the wood floor and watched the door. I could hear the other creatures pounding up and down the stairs.
I lay in silence for hours.
...
After the full moon had ended I stood up and waved my wand at the destroyed room, making everything fix itself. I tucked my wand away after casting the spell to open the door. I checked my pocket to make sure the items were still inside before climbing into the tunnel.
I walked down the tunnel but didn't exit. I glanced back into the shadows and sat down, waiting. Not five minutes later I heard exhausted voices and slow footsteps approaching. I stood up and pulled out the box from my pocket.
Minutes later, four boys came into view. They stopped when they saw me standing there.
"I -" I started but lost the nerve to continue speaking so, without even looking at their faces, I shoved the chocolate box at the nearest boy and dashed away, calling over my shoulder, "Helps with transformations!"
I heard one of them yell something back but I ignored it. Despite being exhausted, I continued to run until I reached the castle doors. I hurried inside and sped down the hallways. Merlin, I felt like an idiot. Why couldn't I have just given the chocolate to them like a normal person?
But, then again, I wasn't a normal person.
...
Eventually, I brought up the nerve to give the other chocolate in person. My dormmates, since they were very annoying, were able to see right through me and immediately shoved me into the dorm before pushing me onto a random bed and gathered around it.
"So, Thompson, what's going on?" Amelia asked, laying down on the bed next to the one I was on with her chin propped on her hands.
"Nothing," I looked around at all of them, "Really, nothing."
"Sure, Thompson, keep telling yourself that," Rosalee said, sitting next to me and draping an arm across my shoulder, "You'll tell us at some point so it's either now or later."
I laughed, "I can be insanely stubborn so I'll probably tell you never."
Avery, from across the room on her own bed, called, "Come on, Thompson! You helped interrogate Harley in third year until she gave up so now it's your turn!"
"Hey, that time I was bribed! How could I resist dark chocolate?" I defended myself.
"You give up too easily, that's why," Harley laughed.
I rolled my eyes and threw a pillow at her, "Oh, hush."
She caught the pillow and tossed it back at me but I ducked and it smacked into Rosalee instead. She glared at Harley but set the pillow aside, "Come on, Thompson!"
"I said nothing is going on. I'm literally fine!"
"Mhm, sure, is it a boy?" Avery called, putting aside the book she'd been reading.
Rosalee shoved me off the bed when I didn't answer, "It is! Isn't it?"
I groaned and glared up at her but decided not to get up. I was too lazy. I closed my eyes and put a hand over my face, "You all are bloody annoying."
"You love us!" Harley sang.
"Yes, I love you all so much that I want to jinx you," I muttered.
"Aww," Amelia kneeled next to me and pulled me into a hug, "We love you too!"
Despite myself, I laughed, "Keep dreaming."
"We are dreaming, that you'll tell us what's going on!" Avery called.
"Well, I'm not a genie so I can't grant that wish," I pushed Amelia away.
"You can grant that wish without magic," Rosalee slid off the bed to sit with Amelia and I, "So, what's going on?"
"Nice try," I got up and headed for the door, "I'm going to the Great Hall."
Before I shut the door I heard Avery call, "Boo! You're boring!"
I laughed and headed out to the common room before leaving the dungeons. I went up to the main part of the school but didn't go to the Great Hall, the courtyard sounded better. I wandered through the hallways before emerging into the courtyard.
Students were spread about in groups or alone, chatting or doing work. I saw some fourth year Slytherin girls giggling in the corner so I went up to them. Their words broke off when they noticed someone approaching but continued when they realized it was me. That was the benefits of befriending younger years.
"What's going on?" I asked them.
"Oh, Thompson!" Melissa took my hand and dragged me closer, "We're talking about the next Hogsmeade trip!"
"Why does that need so much attention?"
Liliana glared at me, "Because it's Valentine's Day!"
I groaned, "Oh, Merlin."
"Ooh, do you have a date?" Selina asked.
"Nope and I don't plan on getting one."
The three girls rolled their eyes and said in unison, "You're boring!"
"So I've been told," I laughed and waved goodbye, "I'll see you three later!"
They watched me for a moment before continuing their conversation. Merlin, I remember fourth year's Valentine's day, Rosalee's date left her. Amelia and Harley found her crying and took her back to the dorm, where Avery and I had been sleeping in. Avery and I were the late risers, the other three woke up at the crack of dawn.
I left the courtyard and immediately bumped into someone. I looked up to see a boy in Gryffindor red and gold with three boys surrounding him. I winced when I realized there were four of them. It honestly wouldn't surprise me if they decided to jinx me.
"Ah, sorry! I'm sorry," I said quickly.
The boy I bumped into shrugged it off, "It's fine."
"Just don't do it again," a black-haired boy with glasses warned.
"Calm down, Prongs," the boy standing directly in front of me said.
"Well, uhm, I'll go now," I ducked past them and walked off.
I wandered through the halls, thinking, when I realized I was out of chocolate. Of all the times to run out, it just had to be around Valentine's day. It had happened twice before that and it was annoying, I was stuck carrying around pink boxes of heart-shaped chocolates for a few weeks after each time.
I sighed, wasn't timing just amazing?
...
I went to Hogsmeade the next trip and almost barfed. Everything was pink, on more pink, with more pink, and did I mention pink? I hurried to Honeydukes as soon as I got off the carriage and went to the chocolate section. And guess what? More pink!
I snatched random boxes off the shelf before heading to the checkout. The witch at the counter smiled at all the chocolate I'd grabbed, "Someone special?
"Hah, no," I snapped.
She frowned but took the coins I outstretched to her. Before she could actually count the coins and insist on handing me the extra back, I grabbed the chocolate and ran off. Merlin, Valentine's day made me want to literally hurl.
I shoved through the milling crowds and walked out into the street. I turned my attention to my bag so I could shove the chocolate into it but, because of my amazing luck, I ran into someone. The same someone from two weeks before. He looked startled and I returned the look.
"Uhm, sorry," I mumbled, grabbing at the boxes I'd dropped. I didn't realize one was missing until I stood up and saw him holding a pink box, "Oh, Merlin, again, sorry. Uhm, you can keep that?"
He blinked at me, "Excuse me?"
"You can keep that... I don't need it."
"Moony's got a girl!" his bespectacled friend laughed.
The boy nicknamed Moony turned back to his friends, "Shush!"
"Uhm, sorry," I said again awkwardly.
I felt like an idiot. Why was I offering him chocolate? On Valentine's day? Everyone would assume I fancied him! Oh, Salazar's soul, my dormmates would be a nightmare if they found out. I winced and stuffed the boxes I held into my bag, sent another apologetic look to the boy, ignored his friend's teasing, then hurried off again. Leaving him standing there, confused, with his laughing group of friends.
Salazar, I was an idiot.
...
The next full moon rapidly approached and I found myself bored out of my mind. The moon was rising slowly so I decided to sit down on one of the tables in the room, since I wasn't allowed to do that anywhere else, and open one of the many boxes of chocolate I'd stuffed into the bag I'd brought.
I picked up one of the chocolates and popped into my mouth, studying the room. I wished the transformation would just start already, I was dying of boredom. There was nothing to do in the room, because what would a werewolf do with books or games, so I decided to study the wooden ceiling. Such fun.
I'd finished half the chocolates when pain shot up my spine. I dropped the box and hopped off the table before collapsing under the burning sensation. Fur sprouted along my arms and my feet and hands turned into paws.
Minutes later, that seemed like hours, the transformation was over and I was, like always, left gasping on the floor. I rose up and looked to the table next to me. There was food. I lifted my paws onto the table and sniffed it but before I could eat it, something inside me seemed to scream that eating the food was a bad idea so I backed off.
I sniffed around the room before grabbing a pillow off the couch and ripped it apart. Feathers flew everywhere and I barked happily, chasing after them. Werewolves, when alone, could be exactly like dogs.
I ran through the feathers until they had all drifted to the floor then I suddenly skidded to a stop. I heard the other werewolf and animals. I padded over to the door and listened. I couldn't understand whatever the other animals were saying and the werewolf said nothing so I quickly lost interest.
Eventually, I returned to my human state and packed up my bag after returning the room to it's normal state. I left the house and headed down the tunnel before sitting down at the end. I was determined to wait for the other werewolf.
I sat for a good fifteen minutes when I finally heard tired laughter and voices. I continued to sit, not sure if standing was a better idea. The four figures from before emerged from the shadows and stared at me. I stared back at them.
"Moony, isn't that the girl who bumped into you? And gave you chocolate?" one of the boys asked.
The boy nicknamed Moony looked startled, "Wait, Thompson?"
I stayed silent then his name dawned on me. He was in my Potions and Herbology classes, "Lupin?"
"Ah! You two know each other!" the boy in glasses remarked.
"Not really," I admitted.
"Moony wishes he knew you," the one who had spoken first laughed and elbowed his friend.
I flushed, "Uhm, well, I, uh, I have more chocolate for Lupin?"
"You didn't have too," Lupin said quickly, ignoring the laughter from his friends.
"I know I didn't but you should accept it anyway or I may change my mind, I am a snake, after all," I opened my bag and handed him whatever I could reach first.
Unfortunately, it was a pink heart-shaped box. Curse Valentine's day!
He took it, "Uhm, thank you."
His friends grabbed the box and looked at it, smirking at the fact that it was pink and heart-shaped. I watched the four's interaction before clearing my throat, "I'll... see you later, Lupin."
"Yeah," he said a bit quietly before turning back to his friends, attempting to grab the chocolate back.
I left the tunnel and immediately felt better, less exhausted. I had met the other werewolf! I had finally met the other werewolf!
...
The next few months I continued to wait for Lupin and his friends. I would hand him chocolate, ask how he was, then leave again because what else would I do? Then, one day Lupin surprised me.
I emerged from the tunnel to find Lupin waiting for me. It had me pausing in my step because he was always the one I had to wait for. He smiled wearily at me and I returned it. Seconds later, we were both holding out chocolate bars.
"Stepped up your game, have you, Lupin?" I laughed and took his offering after he'd taken mine.
We sat down and unwrapped the candy before he spoke, "I felt bad not giving you something in return."
"You shouldn't have, I like giving you chocolate," I say while breaking off a square of my chocolate bar.
"Still."
We sat in silence and ate the candy.
"Lupin, did your friends go on ahead?" I asked, trying to break the silence.
"Yeah, they didn't want to but I insisted."
"Why?"
"Having them laughing and barging in on the conversation didn't sound fun," he finished the chocolate bar and crumpled the wrapper before stuffing it into his pocket.
"They're going to do that anyway," I laughed, "Just wait until next time."
He laughed too but quieted down quickly, "Do your friends know about this?"
"Nope, I'm worried to because Amelia's parents are very openly against werewolves. She isn't though, of course, but I don't want anything to slip," I pulled out the last two squares of chocolate from the wrapper and broke off one before handing it to Lupin.
He took the square and ate it while standing, "We should head off to Madam Pomfrey, she's probably already mad at us for being late."
I stood up with him and we set off to the hospital wing together.
...
The next day I found myself sitting in the courtyard while my dormmates chattered. Avery was half-listening while reading letters from home with an extremely mad face. The letters were always about heirs of families she should meet and, after she read them, she was often in a bad mood for days.
Amelia, Rosalee, and Harley were talking about something or other, since the topic kept changing, and I attempted to listen but couldn't keep up. One minute, they were talking about Puddlemere United, the quidditch team, and the next they were talking about going to Diagon Alley in the summer and getting puffskeins.
"Thompson!" I heard someone call and I looked up to see Potter and Black walking towards us with Pettigrew and Lupin not far behind.
"What?" I asked.
They didn't answer until they'd reached me. Lupin sent me an apologetic look and I suddenly had a bad feeling. What were Potter and Black about to do? My friends looked up to study the four boys in front of me.
"Well, Thompson, our dear Moony here has something to tell you but didn't have the courage to say it out loud," Black started.
Potter jumped in when Black finished, "He told us that he fancies you."
I blinked, "Excuse me?"
"Moony fancies you," Black repeated.
"Lupin?" I turned to him, "This true?"
He nodded slowly, looking away.
"Oh, Salazar, that's... unexpected," I looked to my dormmates, who were listening intently and shooed them away, "I'll tell you everything later, just go!"
They left quickly, sending me looks.
"I'm sorry, Thompson, these people don't know how to keep secrets," Lupin shot a look at his friends.
"That's the point of friends," Black butt in.
"Evans!" Potter suddenly walked off towards a familiar redhead who sat with a familiar black-haired boy.
"Is Potter going off to bother Lily?" I asked.
"He does this a lot, don't mind him," Black replied.
"Really?" I watched Potter start to talk with Lily and realized that I hadn't spoken to Lily or Severus in a long time.
"He fancies her, a lot," Black smirked, "Like how Moony fancies you."
"You know what? That isn't something you should say for Lupin so I'm going to pretend none of this happened because he should say it for himself."
Black shrugged, "All right then, Moony, Wormtail, let's go save Evans."
The three swept off and I didn't see them for a week.
...
On a nice sunny Sunday, I sat outside near the Black Lake with Lily and Severus, since I'd decided it had been too long since I'd talked to them, while reading a book. Or attempting to. I would start reading a paragraph then get pulled back into the conversation between my two friends.
I finally gave up on reading my book and set it aside, turning my full attention to my friends but even that didn't last for long.
Lily bumped my shoulder and brought my attention to a boy standing in front of the three of us. Severus sent a harsh glare towards him and Lupin sent a look back before turning his attention to me, "Thompson?"
"Hm?"

"It would've been longer if my friends hadn't talked to me about 'where's that Gryffindor pride? That inner lion?'" he muttered before handing me something.

I hate this. I'm sorry but I really hate this one. It's more disappointing than I Don't, my previous failure. I'm not fishing for compliments or something but like, this is so bad. The idea of it was so good but when I wrote it I got... this. I had to rush the ending because I got tired of attempting to write it (it's a week late). So, hopefully, the next oneshot isn't such a failure. I haven't decided which one I'm going to do yet (I have many planned ones) so I'll probably start writing on Saturday or next Monday. Anyway, hope y'all are doing well!
