Home Pt. 2

Harry Potter paced nervously. It had been hours since Fenrir left to hunt.

"He should've been back by now." Harry groaned and pulled on his shoes, lacking a robe. Potter opened the door and walked outside.

He didn't have his wand, Greyback kept it on him at all times.

"Greyback? What the hell is taking you so long? Are you hurt?" Harry shouted, entering the forest. He stumbled over a tree root and went deeper into the forest. "This isn't comical in any way! I swear to god if you are trying to pull a prank on me!" Harry ignored the feeling of dread and kept walking.

"Fenrir?" Harry raced to the curled up figure. He was clutching his ankle, face contorted in pain.

"Took you long enough." The man growled. Harry flinched at his tone.

"What happened?" Harry knelt down beside him.

"I sprained my damned ankle, that's what! Can you heal me or not?" Potter bit his lip.

"I could do it with my wand. If you don't trust me, I'll figure out how to contact a healer." Greyback didn't hesitate to give the wizard his wand, wanting the pain to be gone. "Brackium Emendo." Harry said the incantation with confidence, being familiar with this spell. He had been practicing healing spells with Madame Pomfery for around a year now, this was one of the first few she taught him. "Better?" He gave the werewolf his wand and found a stick that he could use as a crutch.

Harry came back with a branch and helped the man up.

"Thanks." Potter stopped him from taking a step on his own.

"Careful, you should rest for a day or two before walking on your own." Greyback scowled, accepting assistance from the branch and his prisoner.

"I thought I was going to be stuck out here much longer. What made you disobey my orders and come out?" Harry rolled his eyes.

"You aren't mad, right? I was worried because it was taking longer than it should. Besides, I've faced the wolves and lived. Wandless magic isn't too hard if you use simple spells." A smile tugged at the older man's lips.

"I'm not mad, I'm relieved. I was almost sure that you had already tried to escape. You're weird, you know that?" Harry nodded, watching his feet carefully.

"I've been around Luna too much." He said fondly, Fenir gave him a confused look.

"Luna?"

"A friend. She's the strangest person I've met."

"You like her?"

"Of course I like her. I don't keep people around if I don't like them." Greyback gave him a shove.

"Not that like, you dumbass."

"Ohhh... ew, no. She's like a sister to me." Fenrir snorted at Harry.

"Well you haven't mentioned any other girls."

"Not true, I mentioned Hermione Granger."

"You didn't sound too fond of her." Potter shrugged.

"I don't swing that way, I'm actually shocked you thought that I am straight." Harry could see the cabin now.

"Really? I thought a popular kid like you would be getting all the girls." Harry gagged.

"Let's stop talking about girls." Greyback had a good chuckle over that.

"What're we gonna talk about then? Wizards? I bet your first crush was Lockhart, wasn't it?" Fenrir nearly collapsed at the look shot at him.

"Stooooppp, Lockhart is a disgusting narcissist. I was like 12 when I first met him, he was like 35!"

"Who was it then?"

"Definitely Oliver Wood." Fenir gasped.

"Scandalous!"

"Are you going to tell me your first crush?" Greyback shrugged.

"I never had time for trivial things like crushes. Didn't have much of a childhood." Harry patted Greyback's shoulder.

"Me either. We turned out alright, didn't we?" Harry giggled as he opened the door and helped the werewolf lie down.

"Yeah, just fine. I'm a murderer and you're being chased by the most powerful wizards and witches alive." Potter frowned as he settle a kettle near the fire for tea.

"It'd be nice to forget about things like that. I'd do anything for an hour or two." Greyback shook his head.

"Forgetting does no good. Everyone has responsibilities, those who neglect them only make this world worse." Harry sighed.

"I know, I know. Wouldn't it just be nice to start over?" Harry handed the werewolf a cup of tea and sat down on his pile of furs.

"It would be nice, but it's impossible." Harry nodded, squirming to try to get comfortable.

"I could transfigure us beds." Fenir rolled the wizard his wand and hobbled to his feet with the branch.

"Go for it. I don't like sleeping on the floor, it's too drafty." Harry murmured a spell and turned one of each of their blankets into mattresses.

"There." He smiled in satisfaction and curled up on the soft bed, quickly draining his cup of tea. Greyback lied down and closed his eyes. The blankets were a bit short for him, his feet stuck out. Harry laughed softly and lengthened them with a flick of his wand. He then set it on a table next to the werewolf and shut his eyes.

Sleep wasn't coming easy. All Harry could think of was Voldemort's cold, scaly hands gripping his face. The wizard shuddered, now feeling cold. Something cool and smooth slithered against his arm, Harry jumped and nearly fell off the bed.

"What the fuck?!" He hissed, casting a soft Lumos. A small garden snake sat coiled up on his bed. Harry let out a long sigh and tried to calm his racing heart. "Hello, little reptile." His voice trembled slightly. The snake seemed surprised by his ability to speak to it.

"A ssspeaker... how fassscinating. What are you called?"

"Harry. What do I call you?"

"I do not have a name. Why did you jump ssso much?" Harry gently pet the snake.

"You sssurprised me, that'sss all. I'm assssuming you sssnuck in becaussse it'sss cold outssside?" The snake bobbed its head.

"You are correct? Who isss that man? He sssmellss of a wolf."

"That isss Fenrir Greyback. He'sss a werewolf." The snake curled around Harry's arm.

"You are warm, Harry." It hissed softly, sounding tired.

"You may sssleep, I won't crusssh you." Harry responded, watching as the snake relaxed. His eerie copper colored eyes didn't close, creepy. Potter then remembered that Hermione had told him once that snakes can't blink. This soothed his nerves and Harry found himself asleep within a few minutes.

/:/

"Potter, there's a snake on your arm. It's going to bite you." Fenrir whispered, prodding him with his walking stick. The wizard's gem-like eyes fluttered open.

"What was that?" Harry yawned.

"There. Is. A. Snake. On. Your. Goddamn. Arm." The wizard nodded.

"Oh, yeah. He doesn't have a name, but he decided that I was a good heater last night. It's just a little garden snake."

"You're mad, Harry Potter, utterly mad."

"I've heard that before. How does your ankle feel?" Greyback tentatively poked his ankle, as if expecting it would just fall off.

"Fine. What're we eating for breakfast?" Harry shrugged.

"What do you want?"

"You know what, I haven't had oatmeal in a long time." Harry rolled his eyes.

"You suck at this. Just go back to sleep and I'll figure it out."

/:/

Harry came back to the cabin with a wicker basket (that he transfigured) full of greens and berries. It contained wild asparagus, cloves, plantain, and strawberries. The garden snake told him which plants were and weren't poisonous, it was actually quite helpful.

Potter entered the cabin and started boiling a cauldron of water. He cut up the greens and found two plates to put everything on.

"Fenrir, wake up." Harry put a cauldron of water over the fire to boil and started humming to himself. It was a random tune and the wizard wasn't quite sure where he'd heard it. "Fenir, I'm going to eat your food if you don't get up."

"I'm awake, I'm awake." The man grumbled unhappily. Potter set the plate down in front of him and poured them both tea. "What's on the agenda today?" Greyback questioned, making Harry shrug.

"I don't know, what do you think needs to get done?" Fenrir thought for a moment.

"Wood needs to be chopped, dinner should be hunted for, we need fresh water, and other things. I'll think of them later." Harry nodded.

"I'd better start getting that all done." He finished his food and pulled on his shoes. "Where's the axe?" Fenrir pointed to it.

"Snape's coming today, he's going to buy us supplies."

"Alright, I'll be outside. Shout if you need me." Harry picked up the axe and headed into the wilderness.

/:/

The rhythm of chopping was easy to get into. It would be mindless work if he wasn't concerned about injuring himself.

Harry wiped the sweat from his brow and swatted a bug buzzing around his head away.

"You're pretty good at that." Greyback limped outside with his waking stick.

"Yeah." He'd been on a few camping trips with the Dursleys, they always made him do the hard work.

"You shouldn't be doing everything around here. A thin little thing like you will just break eventually." Harry was about to split another log, but stopped.

"What's that supposed to mean?"

"Wizards are fragile." Harry rolled his eyes.

"I'm not a porcelain doll, I won't shatter into a million pieces when touched. Besides, you can't do anything when hurt." The older man shrugged.

"Ok." He hobbled back inside, Harry frowned.

/:/

A bead of sweat ran down Harry's forehead. He set the axe down, panting.

"When are we eating lunch?" Fenir asked, sitting in the grass a few yards away.

"I dunno, whenever I get food."

"Can you hunt even?" Harry shrugged.

"I'll catch fish or something easy like that. You just go rest."

"I'm hungry, you'd better find some big fish." He stood up and limped to the cabin.

"Can I at least get my wand?"

"Fine, bring the axe back in." Harry nodded and ran inside, putting the axe back and grabbing his wand.

"I'll be back in an hour or so, can you keep a fire going for the fish?" Greyback nodded.

/:/

Harry smiled in satisfaction at his finished trap. It was clever and simple. He put bait inside the net, a fish would push the light trap-door to get in, then couldn't get back out. Potter put it in the water and tied it to a nearby branch, not wanting it to float around.

"Now we wait." He laid down on the cool grass and relaxed. Harry allowed himself to doze off.

/:/

Something cold and wet nudged Harry's cheek. Harry batted it away, surprised when he touched fur. He opened his eyes with a startled yelp. A very large wolf stood near him, head cocked.

"Fuck." Its deep brown eyes were sharp and calculating. The wolf circled around him, sniffing Harry occasionally. The wizard flinched when its nose brushed against his neck. Another wolf joined them, this one black. It laid down a few feet away, basking in the sunlight. The larger wolf deemed Harry safe and laid down besides him. Harry's eyes widened, not quite knowing what was happening. "D'you two like fish?" He slowly moved away from them and pulled the trap out of the water. Potter took two fish out, throwing one to each of the wolves. They both finished their food quickly, the black one stood and nudged Harry in a 'thank you', then laid down beside the other animal. "This is weird. What is happening?" The bigger wolf let out a whine, wanting more fish. Harry threw them each another, only a few fish left in the trap. "I'm going to stand up and you won't hurt me, alright?" Potter stood up and held his hands out in surrender. The wolves watched as Harry backed away from them, not daring to take his eyes off of the predators.

/:/

Harry sighed in relief, turning around so he could walk normally. He was about to relax when the wolves ran to his side. Harry cursed, scowling.

"Leave me be, the rest of the fish is for Fenrir and me." The larger wolf nudged Harry's leg playfully. "No, go away. I can't play." The wizard scolded, shaking his finger at them. He stopped walking and crossed his arms. "I'm busy, wolfies. I've got another mouth to feed." Harry couldn't help smiling at them. "If you stick around for a few hours, I'll come back." He patted the larger one's head and scratched behind the black wolf's ear. "Bye bye." The black wolf nuzzled his hand and they both trotted off. "Weird." Harry muttered to himself.

/:/

Fenriropened the door as Harry approached the small cabin.

"What took you so long? We're starving.

"We? And sit down, you shouldn't be walking." Greyback rolled his eyes.

"I invited someone over. Snape came while you were gone, by the way." He limped back inside and sat down. Harry followed him, mildly surprised to see a man sitting on his bed.

"So you're the wizard Fenrir has been telling me about!" Harry cocked his head.

"And you are?"

"Pierre, just a friend of Fenrir." Harry sighed, looking at the fireplace.

"You were supposed to keep the fire going while I was gone." He started the fire and took a knife from the table. Pierre grinned.

"Sorry, I got distracted." Fenrir replied sheepishly. Harry just shook his head, smiling.

/:/

Greyback's mouth watered as Harry set a plate of food in front of him.

"Thanks." The wizard gave Pierre his food and then sat down on a chair near the fire. A period of silence fell over them as they ate, Pierre was the first to disrupt that.

"So you've been living with Fenrir." Harry nodded.

"Yeah, it's been a week or so now." Harry set his plate down and glanced out the window.

"And you get along well?"

"I suppose we do, Harry is reasonable." Pierre nodded and stretched, Potter noticed that he was a few inches shorter than Greyback.

"I should go now, thanks for the food." He smirked at Fenrir, the werewolf's cheeks flushed a light rose. Pierre dipped his head at Harry and left.

"What was that about?" Potter cocked his head, frowning.

"N-nothing." Harry shrugged and sat down on his bed.

"Is Pierre a werewolf?" The older male nodded.

"Yeah, he's just an old friend." Greyback's eyebrows furrowed suddenly. "You smell different. What were you doing in the forest?"

"Catching fish."

"And?" Harry thought for a moment.

"I came across a few wolves. They just sniffed me a bit and I gave them some fish." Greyback scowled.

"That isn't safe, they could've hurt you."

"They were gentle. I've told you a secret, now you tell me one. Pierce looked at you before he left and you blushed. I haven't seen you blush once before."

"It's not important, it is stupid really. Don't let those wolves hurt you. The dark lord would literally skin me." Harry rolled his eyes.

"I'm going to visit them again."

"Don't you roll your eyes at me." Greyback's voice held a touch of roughness that it usually didn't. Harry just laughed softly.

"Sorry, sorry. I didn't mean to upset you. Too many years near Snape. I am still going to find them, though. If you're still worried, I can always use my wand." Fenrir crossed his arms.

"You must promise to be back soon." Potter nodded and patted the werewolf's hand in reassurance. Harry didn't see it, but Fenrir cheeks turned pink at the touch.

/:/

Harry smiled as two large wolves trotted up to him.

"Hello there... what am I supposed to call you two?" Harry thought for a moment, tapping his chin as he stared at the larger grey wolf. "You will be Godric." The wizard pointed to the black wolf. "And you are... hmm... Merlin." Godric laid down and rolled around in the grass. Merlin laid down, but then did nothing. "I guess I should sit too." Godric rolled onto his back, tongue lolling out the side of his mouth. Harry grinned and rubbed his belly. "Oh you're just a pig puppy." He cooed in delight. Merlin inched closer, he seemed to be the shyer of the top. Harry slowly reached his hand out. Merlin sniffed it cautiously for a moment, then seemed to relax. Potter pet the wolf's black coat, marveling at how soft it was. "I think we should be friends."

/:/

Harry sighed, looking up at the darkening sky.

"I need to go home." He stood up, careful not to disturb the wolves. He quietly crept back to the cabin.

When he came in sight of it, Harry noticed that the windows were dark. No glow of a lit candle or the light of a fire. The wizard figured that Fenrir was just asleep. He entered the cabin and toed off his shoes.

"Harry?"Greyback's tired voice murmured.

"Yeah?" He silently walked to the side of Fenrir'sbed.

"I'm cold."

"You can have one of my blankets, if you want." Harry reached for one, but was stopped by a large hand clamping around his wrist.

"I don't want a blanket." The wizard let out a sound of surprise as he was pulled onto the transfigured mattress. A blanket was thrown over him.

"You don't feel cold, Fenrir. Is the fever coming back?"

"No." Greyback pulled Harry closer to his chest, his arms preventing escape. Harry bit his lip, shifting as much as he could to get comfortable.

"I'm guessing that you're not going to let go?"

"You guessed right." Potter sighed, admittedly feeling quite comfortable.

"Night, Fenrir."

"G'night."
