After Sirius ran away, he frequently sneaked in beneath James' Invisibility Cloak and just messed with his family.

At first, they were small pranks. 

They'd come home to find that the furniture had been moved so that it was a mirror image of how it had originally been. Or certain portraits would be in other portraits' spots. Or the cabinet doors in the kitchen would be wide open.

But then the pranks would grow.

The furniture would be glued to the ceiling. Nothing but bubbles would be coming out of the taps. It would snowing in their house in the middle of July. Every wall would be painted hot pink.

And then he started sneaking in when they were there.

He'd make 'ghost' noises. He'd frequently knock things over. He'd flicker the lights. His mother would set a glass on the table and he'd push it off. He'd trip his father. He'd dye Regulus' hair bright turquoise.

Orion and Walburga were paranoid that some great ancestor of the Noble and Most Ancient House of Black was displeased with them.

Regulus would know exactly who was doing it but wouldn't say anything.
