She Made Sure Of It
Jazz smiled at Albus as the man visited her just as the snows started to thaw. She can feel her time running out but she wanted to give her little family one last gift. Something that she and Albus have been experimenting on. It was only his experience as an alchemist helped with this little project of theirs. She didn't want anyone to be able to contest Danny and Elsa's claim on Harry when the story of his adoption comes out.
When.
Not if, but when.
Danny already started on the adoption papers. He had been busy in his office figuring out the papers and had even worked with Clockwork to prepare a sort of history of his family. Basically, he was an existing person in the magical world. At least, he forged such a history by time travelling. Naturally, he avoided causing too much problem or changes that will affect the history of the world. She had heard this discussion with Clockwork when the Ancient visited them.
Danny's name, Dante Melinoe Khaos, made it perfect for him to 'join' the Roman Empire when they were occupying the British soil. That made him extremely old and can be considered 'Most Ancient and Noble' for the magical pureblood elites of Britain. However, due to his appearance never changing, Danny settled at being misunderstood as a vampire. And everyone know that the older a vampire was, the more powerful they were. This would certainly give him a leg up against anyone that would dare use the Creature's Law on him. Even so, the fact that he can walk around in daylight in the middle of summer would certainly give people pause.
Albus handed her the much awaited box of the most perfect gift she could ever prepare for her little brother's wedding and his wife, "I actually had a visit from a certain clock loving spirit. He showed me the exact way of creating this particular potion before destroying my notes. In his words; some knowledge are meant to disappear. I am a little upset but I understand," He pointed at his head, "My memory regarding the creation of this potion of ours are also missing. I am simply left with the knowledge that I made it and that it will work. Nothing more,"
Jazz chuckled, "It must be jarring for you,"
Albus nodded, "It felt very violating. But I recognize power that must never be contested when I see it," He sighed, "I asked him some questions but he told that everything might be side way here but all is as it should be," He chuckled, "I came out of that encounter feeling like an ignorant child once more. I have not had such a feeling since...well, since everyone decided that I am the next Merlin,"
Jazz smiled, "A reality check, Albus?"
Albus laughed, "A much needed one. I had made a reputation of knowing many things while most were just very lucky guesses and deduction from studying human nature. But the downside of that was people think that I could have done more had I known that it would have ended badly. I had long given up defending myself as people will think what they want to think. At this moment, I am still celebrated as a hero. But once things go wrong, all they will see is my manipulation and lies, regardless of the fact that the rule of thumb is to fool my friends so I can fool my enemies,"
Jazz hummed, "I heard horror stories about your enemies. In world where a mind can be invaded and read, where faces can be stolen, where freewill can be enslaved, trusting someone during a war is a suicidal decision. I can see how frustrating and lonely that road is," She looked at you, "But you don't care, do you? As long as good prevail and the future preserved,"
Albus sighed, "On contrary, Jazz...I cared too much. And that is a weakness of mine that have been exploited one too many times," He then asked, "How is Harry?"
She grinned, "Being a trouble making 4 years old, of course! The funniest part is that he is actually a good child but his curiosity and adventurous can get the better of him. I am just fortunate that he is reasonable compared to most other children. I am also glad that his true personality is shining through, especially now that he made a friend closer to his own age that is also a human,"
Albus nodded, "Ah! I have heard. The Lovegood family is a wonderful family, if a tad eccentric. But I have met Albert Einstein once and he too is a tad eccentric. Perhaps that is simply the nature of geniuses?"
They shared a laugh but Jazz stopped as her coughing returned. She took a moment to settle down with Albus using a small medical charm to ease some of her pain from her coughing. She wiped away the fishy blood from her mouth and thanked him. She asked him, "Will you be able to make it to their wedding?"
Albus smiled, "I will see if I can get lucky with a Time Turner,"
Jazz laughed, having had read about the little time travelling invention, "I am wondering how Clockwork turned his eyes away from this blatant messing around with time. Then again, I realize that your time travelling must be a perfect paradox. Whatever time travelling that happened is one that must have meant to happen,"
Albus's eyebrows climbed to his hairline, "That does make a lot of sense..."
One the special day, Jazz thanked Elsa and Ellie for finding her wig with the same exact shade as her hair. She had been fretting about being bald for the wedding as she did not want any reminder of her sickness in their wedding photos. Ellie and Elsa actually ran around London looking for the perfect wig just for her. They matched well with the teal dress robe that Elsa bought and modified for her. Jazz looked at her face in the mirror, feeling 10 years younger that day. Especially after imbibing a small vial of Fawkes' tears, courtesy of Albus.
She walked out to Elsa's room, Danny having to change and prepare in the separate building outside, and opened the door to see the beautiful bride. Elsa was a classic blond beauty but today she would inspire the likes of Michelangelo and Da Vinci to paint an angel with her shining beauty.
She was dressed in pure white wedding dress in the mermaid style with hanging lace sleeves that fell down her shoulders like a cape...or a pair of angel wings. They trailed down to the ground. The delicate layers of her dress only added to the ethereal appearance, trailing behind her like snow. A modest slit on the front cut up to just below her left knee; a daring decision but with elegance. The top was off shoulders but a delicate necklace made from diamonds circled her neck like a choker made of lace. Her hair was pulled up into a beautiful style with diamonds decorating the curls that looked like roses made of her hair.
Elsa looked behind her and touched her dress, dripping with micro diamonds that made it looked as if she was dressed in the stars itself, "Do I look alright?"
Jazz giggled, "I have always known you have style, Elsa dear. This just proves it," She winked, "I don't think my brother will be able to keep his hands off of you. You resembles the very thing he's obsessed with his whole life; the stars," And all that came with it but she was sure Elsa knew that, if her blush was any indication.
Elsa looked at her reflection, "I thought about the Spirit Dress I wore upon accepting my role as the Fifth Spirit," She touched the almost invisible symbols of the elements in pale pastels embroidered tastefully all over her wedding dress, making each movements sparkle like diamonds. It was such a subtle thing that Jazz completely missed it at first. Even her necklace, there were colored diamonds that could have started a war decorating her neck, resembling gems like alexandrite, ruby, amethyst, and aquamarine. But looking closely, they were colored diamonds. Light and fancy.
Truly, an accessory worthy of a Queen.
Ellie appeared, "Finally! They decided on this one!"
Jazz looked to see a tiara. They were delicate and almost alive with light from the white gems. One would think that having these much stones would made Elsa look tacky, but her style proved the opposite to be true. They weren't big or gaudy, rather delicate and classy with nods to nature. The tiara was a beautiful thing with gems designed to resemble tiny flowers or little snowflakes, either would do. Ellie flew towards Elsa and the bride lowered her body. Ellie paused before looking at Jazz, smiling, "Why don't you do the honor?"
Jazz stared and noticed that Elsa remained in her position, patient and poised. Honestly, this girl was too good for her troublesome little brother. Sending a prayer that she will not mess this up, she accepted the tiara from it's box and carefully placed it on Elsa's head. Once upon a time, before the mess that became their lives, she wondered if Danny would have married Sam and the head she will be looking at be black with freshly dyed warm blond roots. But that was a story that already passed.
Right now, this was the woman who became Harry's mother. She had done a wonderful job in this year Jazz came to know her. Elsa was exactly what Danny needed.
Ellie carefully placed her veil over her. The veil was a cape made of lace and sheer tulle. Micro diamonds dotted the surface reaching the hem until they completely lined the hem. The deep hood added a sense of elegance and magic to the whole assemble. Jazz and Ellie stepped back as Elsa straightened.
Jazz blinked back tears, "Oh. You're beautiful, my dear,"
Ellie smiled, her own eyes misty, "Danny is gonna be knock out cold on his feet!"
Elsa giggled, "I hope not. I can't marry without a groom,"
She then looked at Jazz and then at Ellie, taking note of their dresses. Ellie, unlike Jazz, wore something more mundane. Elsa did not exactly have a theme to her wedding but since it was spring and will be held in the very much magical glade outside their home, surrounded by flowers, Ellie chose something light, airy, and screamed spring. In respect to Elsa, she wore something below the knees and simple heels. Her own hair was up and her make up was simple. Ellie decided to wear a soft teal color to match Jazz and somehow, when Pandora showed up, she also changed the color of her dress robe to teal.
Jazz smiled at the simplicity of magic.
Pandora smiled at Elsa, "Are you ready?"
They can hear music playing and Elsa drew in deep breathes, "In a moment,"
Jazz nodded, "I'll be standing next to Danny. Ellie, you stay with Elsa,"
She carefully but quickly made her way to the separate building turned changing room to find Danny in his own wedding suite. His was simpler in design to Elsa. But it was certainly 'formal'. His was all black with black micro diamonds decorating his cuffs. The added coattails to his top gave him a sharper appearance. There were arsenic green embroideries adding a flair of luxury to his lapels and cuffs as well as hems. The vest was also embroidered, dark green on black, reminding Jazz of a beetle's armor. The undershirt a solid back and the largest pop of color on his was his arsenic green tie...that he was struggling with.
She sighed, "Come here,"
Danny slumped, "I hate ties. Why do we even wear ties?"
Jazz raised a brow, "A simple answer? It is sexual in that point to your crotch. Women somehow find that attractive," She snorted at his incredulous look, "What? Don't give me that look. Fashion is extremely sexual in nature, no matter how prudish they appear on the surface. At least you are not forced to wear a cod piece,"
Danny grimaced, "Ew. No. No cod piece for me. I already have enough problem with women looking at me like a piece of meat without wearing something that make it even more obvious. And they say men are perverts," He shuddered, "Why do you think I love my dusters so much? I get to cover myself,"
Jazz laughed, "My poor baby brother. He grew up to be such a stud and now he have stud problems," She pulled back, revealing an elegant but stylish Vidalia knot, "There. Perfect,"
She looked up at him as he straightened, looking at his hair and pushing them back. He didn't wear a glove for his wedding, revealing the little scars on his knuckles that looked like someone cut his fingers. His nails were trimmed but still sharp, barely sheathed weapons ready for use. Danny never shared much about the things that happened to him when they separated. He was changed by his experiences that led to his crowing as the Ghost King. But he remained her baby brother.
The little boy that always cried, hungry because Maddie forgot to feed him.
The little boy that sought her out growing up for nicks and bruises, instead of their 'parents'.
The boy that died in the basement and came back the very thing their family hunt and experiment on.
The boy that went through hell and came out the other end a man.
Jazz smiled as he looked at her with eyes that don't belong to a human, "You've grown,"
Danny paused, a quip on his lips that looked dusky instead of a healthy pink. He realized that she was feeling emotional and smiled, "Not without you, Jazz,"
Jazz closed her eyes and hugged him, feeling his height and width once more hammering the years separated between them to her mind. She missed so much of his growth. Her resentment of having to be the adult in their family had almost pushed her completely out of his life. It was never Danny's fault for treating her more as his parent than the very people that created and brought him into this wretched world. She whispered, "I'm so glad that I am here for this milestone in your life,"
Danny smiled but she knew that he regretted that he wasn't there for hers.
After composing themselves, Jazz walked him to where he will be waiting for Elsa. They headed for the gazebo in their garden where two beings waited. One a ghost she was most familiar with, Clockwork, and the other a fey that she had only ever read about, Cernunnos. He stood tall, but she knew that he must have been much taller. After all, he was once celebrated by the Celts as a god of the wild.
Danny bowed his head to both beings, respectful of their status to the fabric of their world. Jazz then turned, standing in as his parent, and looked at the entrance to their garden. They small guests turned to see Elsa walking down the flower carpeted aisle and she heard Danny gasp sharply behind her. She peeked to see that same smitten look on his face coloring his whole expression. But she was most surprised to see tears falling down his eyes and his pursed lips trembling despite his attempts to control his emotions.
Jazz smiled, knowing just what this must meant to him. Danny once confessed that he had never thought that he would ever married. His aura of death was too strong to pair with any living being. And his power too much to match with a ghost without accidentally consuming them. He was resigned to existing alone until whatever it was that ran the world decided to close their seemingly endless story.
Elsa was indeed a miracle for him.
He burst out laughing when little Luna ran ahead of Elsa, throwing flower petals from her little basket with all the carefree of a child. Minerva and Pandora helped by enchanting more flower petals to fall from the sky. Their witch and wizards guest must be so confused by their other guests' appearance but was polite and tactful enough to not question. Jazz watched as Elsa stared at Danny as if she was dreaming and can't believe that this was really happening.
Jazz understood. Just like Danny, Elsa too had not believed that she would ever be in such a relationship with anyone. She had never been in a romantic love before and had not thought that marriage was something that she can be involved in. At least, not her own. She had resigned herself to an eternal sleep before Danny.
After what seemed like forever, Elsa reached Danny and the two stared at each other as if they just met. Both carried the light of disbelief and hope in their eyes. Jazz put their hands in each other and told them, "Be there for each other, always,"
She then took her seat among the ghosts disguised as people.
Ellie joined her and whispered, "This is surreal,"
Jazz nodded, "They never thought they will ever meet each other,"
Ellie smiled, "I'm glad they did...here,"
Cernunnos' voice was deep as he addressed the people and the marrying couple, demanding their vows and omitting the part where death will part them as neither can die. After Danny and Elsa gave their consent, Clockwork took his turn, demanding for the same vows. Like Cernunnos, he omitted the part of death. Jazz can sense the slight confusion among their human guests but none point it out. Again, with clear voices, the two agreed to stay and to support each other through thick and thin, through life and death, in sickness and in health, in plenty and in poverty.
There was a burst of something. Jazz wasn't sure if it was magic or something more, but everyone attending felt it. The sky flashed different colors and for a moment, Jazz thought that she saw the universe. And for a moment, Danny's hair flickered ghost white and his antlers took on a frosty appearance, before disappearing. And in that same few moments, Elsa seemingly glowed from within as if she was a star shaped into a woman.
Then, the bizarre moment end as Harry came in with his "very important job"; ring bearing.
Harry beamed, puffing his little chest out as he carefully made his way with a very serious and focused look on his face. Much unlike with Luna who had all but danced while throwing flower petals, he marched down like a soldier carrying a sword to his rulers. Jazz can't help but cooed at the sight quietly, knowing that Harry will pout if people said he look cute doing his "very important job" as the ring bearer.
After all, it was his most important job of the day and he took it very seriously.
Jazz took note of the seemingly simplistic design. She knew that the stones used might not be 'precious' but in reality it was something that Danny created with his own power. For Elsa's ring, the stone was his ghost ice with his power within, making it glow whenever he's near her. For Elsa, he had dared to ask the help of the fey to create something that would mirror his creation, except that it will glow like a star whenever she was near. He had been feverish when designing these rings, talking her ears off as he explained what he wanted for their wedding rings.
Elsa's eyes widened when kissed her ring, and put them on her finger, "I promised...to be true for as long as I exist and Time permit me,"
Elsa smiled as she took his ring, kissed it, and put them on his finger, "I swear...to be true for as long as I live and Memories remain,"
Jazz smiled, sobbing quietly while Ellie wasn't even hiding her bawling. The girl might not seem like it but Ellie was really a family girl at heart. She just couldn't be close to anyone due to her unorthodox origin and complicated life. Just like Danny, she was lonely. But she held hope that one day, she will find that guy.
Harry cheered, "Now you can kiss!" He then added as an after thought, "Just don't forget I'm here,"
The crowd laughed while his parents tried to continue with the wedding. Danny pushed back Elsa's veil and angled her face so that he can kiss her but also made it private, hiding their connecting lips from view. When he pulled back, Elsa was bright red. Jazz snorted as his slyness.
Once that was done, the wedding party begin and Jazz found herself being pushed around by Ellie while Danny and Elsa walked to the blooming glade outside. A soft of wooden platform had been built just that morning so that they won't trample all over the flowers on the field. It also help create a flat ground where the hill was bumpy and had a slight slope. Jazz looked to see Severus being accosted by Harry who decided to introduce Luna to him.
Ellie curiously asked, "Who's that?"
Jazz smiled, "Lily's best friend. They were estranged during the war. But he missed her...dearly," Jazz suspected something more from the guilty looks he thought she didn't see him sending her way. But that was a story that Danny will deal with. And since her little brother allowed the man to hang around his family, she will trust his judgment. Besides, she knew him since Lily first brought him home, small and hungry. Both for food and for some familial affection. She had done her best for both.
Ellie hummed, "He's cute...like a little cactus," She then grinned, "I'm going to try my luck!"
Jazz blinked as she was left with an amused Pandora, "...I didn't expect that,"
Danny and Elsa opened the dance floor with a waltz. It was very clear that Danny had trained his dance moves for that day while Elsa's body still remembered all her training when she was a Princess. Harry will run between them when their dance grew less romantic and more playful, ending with the trio dancing together and laughing. When Elsa threw her bouquet, Ellie caught it while standing next to a shell shocked Severus. Minerva only laughed when she looked at him and pulled him into a dance. Albus then twirled Jazz while she sat in her wheelchair. She laughed but enjoyed it when Fawkes came and thrilled notes after notes in jubilant. It was a day of celebration, after all.
But she will always enjoy it when Danny picked her up into his arms and just danced like that. She will miss this, she decided. It was a pity that she did not have it in her to be a ghost. She missed her husband, even more now knowing that she cannot rest beside him. But it was all the more reason to move on. She have people waiting for her. She hoped that she will meet Lily and James and tell them that Harry will be alright because Jazz made sure of it.
