A Visit of Griffin And Serpent
Danny looked out the window when he heard someone approaching. He was just finishing up dealing with a couple of laws that needed repealing when his long ears heard noises approaching the gate. He watched as Severus Snape, whose past as a Death Eater turned spy was revealed by Elsa the night after Harry finished telling Jazz about his first birthday and adventure, apparently she came with an internal screening ability that she can tap on when she felt like it, walking up to the rather tacky Gothic gate with his initial inside a shield like some sort medieval noble or something, with someone new. A witch that he had never seen before. He changed back to his less impressive but still creepy human form and walked down to greet them.
He could just fly out but that would be too much at once.
He sent out his senses and felt Elsa in the back watching Harry swim while Jazz was in kitchen checking on their herb collection that they grew by the window like a hanging garden. He called out, "Gale. Tell Elsa we have company,"
The wind blew past him and around the house while he walked to the gate where the witch stood studying for a way to call for him. He put on his politician smile as he greeted her, "Hello? How can I help you?" He waved, "Sup, Sev?"
He watched as the spy's brow ticked at the old nickname that his niece used to call him by. Had Elsa not told him about Severus's past and complicated involvement in his niece's family's death, he might have mauled the man right there and then. It was only her informing him about Severus's suicidal need to keep Harry safe despite the possible distaste as the boy was supposed to be the son of his greatest tormentor growing that kept Danny's hand from flying to his throat. The man was willing to die for his son, regardless of his own personal feeling prior meeting Harry, that landed him Danny's favor to his give his second chance.
Danny had his and his sin was bigger. Though his mistake was smaller, he understood the weight of guilt that came from his careless action leading to the death of his family and friend in that other dimension. Severus had not thought that his naive chase for power and acknowledgement would lead to the one person in the world whose life meant anything to him dead by the hand of someone he once thought of as a father figure. Just like how naive Daniel Fenton did not think cheating on his test would lead to the end of all life.
Everyone made mistakes.
Everyone deserved a chance to redeem themselves.
Danny will allow Severus his.
The witch looked at the tall dark wizard with an amused look before looking at Danny, "I heard my colleague Severus here made an adorable friend when he went out for his usual potion ingredients order for the school stock. I thought I should meet this little wizard who would send him essays on potions above his educational level. I was impressed by his eloquence in his little 'homework',"
Danny looked at her, "And you are?"
She cleared her throat, "Apologies. My name Minerva McGonagall, Transfiguration Mistress and Head of Gryffindor's House of Hogwarts,"
Severus sneered, "Merlin, Minerva, the boy haven't even got his letter,"
Danny grinned, "I see! I heard Gandalf asked you and one other to help prepare the house for my sister and Harry! I should give you my thanks. Also, Jazz would be glad to see you both!" He waved his hand, "Come on in! Welcome to the Shrieking Shack!" He then shouted over their shoulder, "Thank you for watching over them, Elf Man!"
The two Professors looked behind at the treeline where he just shouted and barely made out the silhouette of a tall man shuffling in the woods. Minerva asked, "Who was that?"
Danny looked at her, "You're Scottish, right? It's in your accent. It slips out sometimes. Ever heard of ghillie dhu?" At her wide eyes, he grinned, "Yeah. That's him. He watches the house from the outside in the morning. At night, it's the dullahan. He patrols the hill with his horse,"
He heard Harry before he saw the boy, practically flying with Gale's help, while Elsa chased after him from the back with towel in her hands, "PROFESSOR SNAPE~!"
Danny grabbed Harry before the boy could cannonball the poor man, stricken in shock by how excited the little boy was at hearing that his favorite older friend coming for a visit. He heard Minerva giggling, "Probably the only child in the world to be that excited to hear you come visiting,"
Elsa gasped, wrapping the boy in thick fluffy towel with stars, "Honestly, Harry! It's cold outside the swimming pool! Dry up and change into something dry before you splatter yourself all over the poor man," She wrestled the struggling boy to dry his sopping wet hair, "Don't make Dad hold you in the air..." She threatened to have Danny hold Harry up with his telekinetic power.
Harry froze, looked at Danny with big green eyes before grinning and started wrestling harder. Danny looked at Elsa who tried not to laugh, picking up on the fact that Harry wanted Danny to hold him up with his power. Ever since he saw Danny flying without help the other day, he have been trying all sorts of tricks to try and fly like him. The closest he got was with Gale's help, but he would only tumble around before falling to the ground.
Harry whined when Elsa turned him into Harry Burrito and set him on the ground, "I want to fly like Dad~!"
Elsa sighed, hands on her hip and looked at Danny, "That's your problem now,"
Clearly, she blamed him for this obsession to fly. Danny rolled his eyes, remembering that James Potter was famous for his acrobatic moves on the flying broomstick and thought it was genetic for Harry to want to fly. Not that he blamed the boy. Between flying relying on something and flying like a ghost, completely free of gravity, Danny's flying ability was the cooler option.
Minerva cooed, "Oh...he's adorable~!"
Harry finally saw the new stranger and squeaked, "No! You can't eat me!!"
The group watched the boy ran into the house, swearing up and down that he's not edible to Minerva. The witch blinked at the vehement refusal to be eaten and straightened, "What?"
Severus smirked, "Apparently you reminded him of a cannibalistic hag,"
Minerva glared at him something nasty but the Potion Master only held his smug smile on his face. Elsa coughed before smiling, "I apologize. He read about Hansel and Gretel and thought all witches eat children," She shrugged, "I swore he was just playing it up. After all, his Mama was a witch,"
Minerva sniffed, "I assure you, there is nothing healthy about eating children. You never know where they last rolled in. For all I know, it could be troll's manure,"
Danny chuckled, "All jokes aside, come on in,"
Minerva and Severus studied the house. It barely resembled the Shrieking Shack that they were familiar with. It was now a properly furnished home and actually lived in. They admired the expansive constellations painted on the ceiling with midnight clouds rolling lazily in and out. The chandelier looked like a celestial globe with the central light taking the place of a miniature sun when turned on. It quickly dawned on them that this Danny liked stars and astronomy but nothing was tacky.
The suite of armor by the grand fireplace creaked a little and they looked to see the helm looking at them. Danny pointed one sharp claw at it, "Nope. No scaring the visitors,"
A pair of glowing green eyes narrowed at the two before the helm turned back to it's neutral forward position. Danny relaxed a little. He can't really blame ghosts from scaring people. It was the only thing that amused them after ageless of existing. But he needed to put his foot down when it came to certain things...like scaring visitors when they didn't deserve it.
He would totally open the portal to hell if they do deserve it though...and Frighty can take head for that.
He took them to the music room right by the right side of the entrance. He then called out, "Jazz! We have visitors!" He thanked Elsa as she left to brew some tea for them in the kitchen. He then sat down, "Have a seat, please. How is Gandalf?"
Minerva blinked, "Who?"
Danny put on a charade, "You know? Tall? Long beard and hair? Sparkly dress? He's only missing the wings or he could pass for some sort of fairy godfather for a midnight ball,"
Minerva and Severus took a moment to realize who he was talking about before Severus cleared his throat, looking away to hide his mirth, while Minerva tried her best to not laugh too much. She nodded, "He's fine, the old coot. He's just busy,"
Danny nodded, "I pegged him for the sort to hum like a bee when working. Does he?"
Minerva smiled, "That he does,"
"Danny? Who is it?" Jazz entered the room with her walking cane and gasped upon seeing the two, "By my words. Is that you Minerva? You looked beautiful!" She greeted the witch before finding Severus who looked both glad and ashamed to see her. Jazz smiled, "Ah...Severus Snape, as I live and breathe...you look very handsome, young man,"
Severus blushed and coughed, "You are perhaps the only woman who would ever see me that way, Aunt Jasmine,"
Jazz giggled as she let Danny help her to her seat, "Just call me Jazz. That was the name I used when I was a teenager and now I just want to feel young again...even if it isn't for much longer," She pointed at Severus, "You might not know it but some women just like that austere look you have grown into. Something like a thrill for danger, you know? Or maybe they just want to baby you, even with all your prickly nature. You're like a cute little cactus to them!" She giggled at his embarrassed look before sobering, "How was life? Minerva, how was Hogwarts? I want to know. After all, Harry will be going there,"
Danny watched as Jazz easily interacted with the two before quietly excusing himself to the kitchen. He found Elsa still choosing the sort of tea to serve their guests and leaned on the counter, "I wonder if Jazz know,"
Elsa stood silent for a moment, her eyes glittering like blue stars, before saying, "She didn't. And Severus is conflicted. I am sure, since to become a Potion Master one must also be educated in medicine as they will be the one to prescribe the potions, that he can tell that Jazz is very, very sick. Unneeded stress will be bad for her,"
She settled on a mix of fruit tea and started on the drink.
Danny watched as she moved around the kitchen, being more comfortable now that Pepper relented and allowed her freedom to use the kitchen after watching that she will become a true mistress of the house, somehow feeling the domestic bliss that he didn't ever think he would experience. Sure, Elsa was terrible with things like cooking, though she was slowly learning. She did not used her original background as an excuse as to why she cannot cook. She believed in being independent but not like the girls or women he knew. She believed that if she can learn to do it herself, then she should be capable to do it.
Suddenly, Danny asked, "Have you ever thought that you don't need a man?"
Elsa paused before answering, "What nonsense. I need men for many reasons. I need men to build my settlements. I need men to bring in merchandises. I need men to feed my people. I need men to patrol my borders," She looked at him, "There are many things that men does that I, as woman, as simply incapable of. Not at the speed or durability that a man can. Sure, I, as a woman, can certainly do farming and business. I, as a woman, can certainly design houses. I, as a woman, can also learn the art of war. But I do not have the strength to deal in husbandry as efficiently as a man. I do not have the strength to carry the materials to build a single house, let along a whole settlement. I do not have the strength or stamina to go through weeks of sailing or long travels, roughing it out in the wild with little comfort like basic hygiene just to made certain that the things I am selling reach my customers. I am most certainly, as a woman, unable to live my life on the field with little rest and many nights awake mindlessly staring at the border to make sure that they have not been breached, let alone fight or take lives for as long as the crown demand it of me, never knowing if I'll survive to see my family,"
She put the finished tea and snacks on a tray, one that Pepper used her magic to put on the coffee table in the music room. She sighed before continuing, "There are outstanding women out there. Women that are capable of doing the same things men are able to do, but with triple the amount of effort. They are deserving of respect,"
She then smiled as she looked at him, "There you have it. I do need a man. I will never deny that. I am comfortable and pampered because good men suffered for me. I am acutely aware of that," She then asked, "Why do you ask?"
Danny smiled, "Just to make certain of something,"
Danny pulled away to catch Harry as the boy rode the railing down. Though he occupied himself with the squirming 4 years old, he can't help but think about how proud Elsa was to be a woman but also how humble she was to admit needing men in her life. It was something he seldom saw in the women he met. Most would shout about needing no men and accusing him of being controlling when he offered aid. It was frustrating and the main reason why he avoided pursuing serious relationship once he had enough playing in the field in his 20's only to be given nothing but hot shit. Hot but a hot shit was still shit.
How lucky was he that the woman he's marrying to give his nephew/son a mother did not believe in extreme feminism?
Then again, Elsa wasn't a young woman. She just looked young but her mind, heart, and soul were old. Older than even his, perhaps. She had seen such things in her life and have come to the conclusion that there was nothing wrong in being a woman with flaws and needing a man to help her with her shortcoming. If anything, from what he saw of her, she was proud in being a woman. She embraced her feminine side and reveled in it unlike most girls he knew. She did not expose herself to show the world her feminine sexuality but rather draped herself in elegant covering to emphasize her female beauty.
Danny knew that he have been watching her through lens of lust. He cannot help it. Not when she was effortlessly breathtaking and he wasn't just talking about her flawless and polished beauty. One that was magically enhanced through fey blessing. No. He was speaking of the grace in her every movement, trained into her very soul from a young age. He spoke of the soft manner in which she speak to the people around her. Not pretentious but with patience and a serene calmness, causing them to relax in her presence. She did not flirt or pitch her voice like a child to incite the feeling of protectiveness that some females used in the presence of men that they found attractive. Rather, her tone was soft and elegant, lilting as if singing. Everything about her was the classic female grace that modern women pegged as weak and submissive, completely missing the subtle yet powerful sway such a woman have on the people around her, man or woman.
The most attractive thing about Elsa was her sincerity towards those around her.
She might not wear her heart on her sleeve, but her smiles were genuine and her laughter was clear though she hid her smile and silenced her voice as much as possible out of trained politeness. But her eyes could not hide her from Danny. She was open to be read and understood if only one was willing.
But above all, Danny smiled as he watched her reign in Harry but letting him be just a little boy, it was the way she nurtured kindness and patience in Harry without being forceful. It was a delicate balance that she was capable of juggling. Perhaps from her time of dealing with the numerous descendants of her late sister when she was still welcomed by her family. Elsa once shared tales of when she had to chase after her sister Anna, trying to keep her both entertained and under control while their parents deal with guests for political deals. Clearly, she have a lot of practice.
He had never been with single mothers before. But watching Elsa with Harry was...something else. Well, maybe because he knew her as her own person and that Harry was more his than hers at the start. He have heard enough horror stories about single mothers using some poor sod for her own ends. Then again, some came from a place of desperation but most came from a place of entitlement. Their mistakes shouldn't be his problem.
Still, watching Elsa being a mother made his mind hop into places he shouldn't even be thinking. Though they both agreed to marry, it wasn't really out of mutual attraction or romance. It was for Harry's benefit. But maybe that alone was enough reason for Danny to slip over the edge and tumble down?
Danny mentally shook the thought away and decided to look for Severus who had disappeared to use the loo when Jazz and Minerva reminisced about Lily and James. Harry, despite having him and Elsa, sat enraptured by their stories. Not that Danny blame him. These were stories of people who loved him so much that they gave their lives for him. He would be curious too.
It did not take Danny long to find Severus standing near the pool, staring at the swaying branches of the willows behind their home. He joined him, "Can't stand stories of James?"
Severus looked at him, his shoulders jumped at Danny's sudden appearance, and Danny saw the aborted reaction to reach for his wand. Severus sighed, "Forgive me. I do not have fond memories of that...man,"
Danny nodded, "I get you," At Severus's disbelieving look, he shrugged, "I was scrawny from a family of weirdos where I was from. Got bullied a lot. I don't think I can smile when people talk about my bully. Especially if he was the reason I lost my best friend,"
Severus sighed, "...losing Lily...was my own foolishness..."
At least the man wasn't delusional to play the victim card. Then again, Severus was suicidal with thoughts of redeeming himself. Danny hummed, "Harry took after me...Jazz said Lily was like me too. He might have bits and pieces of James but you should focus on that bits and pieces of Lily. If that is too hard, then just think of him as mine. We look alike after all!" He laughed.
Severus looked at him and Danny felt his eyes scanning his face. He suspected that he had found whatever it was he was looking as he nodded, "Excuse me. It's getting late. I should remind Minerva that we still have classes to run tomorrow,"
Danny smiled and called out to the leaving wizard, "I trust you to keep Lily's greatest love alive, Severus Snape. Slytherin protect their own, after all,"
He watched as the stiffened man moved again. He was sure that the man must be wondering how he knew what he knew. But Danny won't be telling everything. When he picked up the surname 'Khaos', he intended to live by it. After all, he was the Ghost King. Being chaotic was their thing!
Still, he hoped that Severus will not disappoint him. The man's bitterness towards James was thick like molasses that Danny felt like it was a bitter syrup on his tongue. He might not be as great as Spectra at feeding on emotions but he was able to do it. But it turned into honey when he talked of Lily and it mixed when he talked to Harry. Though it grew sweeter when Harry continued to talk about potions with him.
Minerva have finally succeeded in making Harry interested in transfiguration after she showed him her ability to turn into a cat and back. Although everyone was impressed, besides Severus who must have seen it dozens of time, Danny only smiled as he was able to shape shift himself. It was one of the mid ghost abilities, after all. Slightly difficult above keeping himself intangible and invisible at the same time.
Once they returned with Minerva promising to send Harry some beginner books for transfiguration, Danny laughed as the two Professors seemingly argued about having Harry in their Houses. Although Severus seemed less enthused by the idea. After all, most if not all of the descendants for Harry's parents' enemies will be in that House. Elsa approached the little boy as he stood by the closed gate long after the witch and wizard left their sight, "Come on, Harry. It is almost dinner,"
Harry pouted, "Okay..."
Danny picked him up with his power and let him fly like Peter Pan for a while, lifting himself off the ground as he flew around the house's roof. Harry immediately cheered and whooped as Danny played with him, tumbling him around in a loop de loop. He felt wind blowing and found Elsa being held aloft by Gale. His eyes sparkled as he didn't know that she could ask the wind to lift her up to sort of 'fly'. The trio flew around in a sort of tag until Harry forget his loneliness and complained about being hungry.
The family settled on the ground and Harry ran into the house, "Nanna~!"
Elsa thanked Gale and walked forward. Danny grabbed her as she walked past him, causing her to stumble into his arms with a gasp. He picked the bewildered Queen and flew to the roof. Once he placed her there, he smiled at her. Elsa looked at him before he carefully closed the distance between them. When she didn't stop him, he pressed his lips against hers. He have yet to deepen any of the kisses that he stole from her lips. But at least she was slowly learning to reciprocate. Once they pulled away, she giggled, "Hiding from Harry?"
Cue to that, they heard him, "Nanna!! Mum and Dad are flying to Neverland without me!!"
