A Queen Out of Time

When Elsa was woken up a day ago, the last thing she expected was for the King of Ghosts to propose to her. She finally met little Harry and a glance was enough to prove his words true. It wasn't that she did not believe Danny. It was simply that she needed to see Harry herself. The boy was immediately wary of her despite smiling and calling her pretty.

As if trying to force himself to like her.

So far, Danny had been accommodating. He had introduced her to Jazz and the elderly woman was immediately taken with her but not fully. Elsa understood the reason why. She wasn't here to be Danny's bride. She was here to be Harry's mother. She will need to prove herself worthy. As it was, Jazz seemed to relax a little when Danny explained that whether Elsa stayed or go depended on Harry's words.

Harry had stared at her in disbelief at that.

Elsa felt pain in her heart at his reaction. It wasn't disappointment. No. She felt pain because someone had hurt him so much that trusting was hard for him. Children as young as him didn't generally have so much paranoia. Especially towards someone that a family member brought in. Still, she felt that it was also good that he did not trust her so easily. It meant that he have a good sense of survival. It was just the fact that he was so young that hurt her. Such senses should be something learned at a much later age.

She was grateful that Jazz have something that fit her. Although it was a little tight around the chest area. Elsa was tempted to add some flair to the rather simple style of blouse and skirt but she held back. This wasn't her clothes. She must not be so free with it. She created a scarf and tied it around her neck to hide the straight the buttons have around her chest area. It would not do flash someone, even if that someone was a potential husband. Something that she did not imagine to ever have.

Marriage have always been far from her mind. Growing up, she was more concerned with studying to be Queen over romance. Not to mention, her power caused her to think and rethink about any marriage prospect. She had been determined to hand the throne to Anna's children when the time came as she did not think any man would survive her touch. And when she was comfortable with her power, she was more concerned with the security and prosperity of Arendelle. Besides, the people was clearly more enamored with Anna. Elsa had even trained her sister on the ways of being Queen just in case. Perhaps it was written in the stars from long before as it had always felt as if the throne wasn't hers for long. Later, she became Ahtohallan's Daughter and she was more concerned with the balance of spirits and humans.

Marriage was simply never in her list of things to do, let alone romance.

When Anna's descendant grew more and more distant from her, Elsa decided to withdraw from Arendelle completely. As it was, the spread of the Church was hunting people with magic and she cannot let them destroy Ahtohallan. In the end, Elsa sealed herself away from the world and decided to sleep. Becoming an observer of things from a distance.

Now she was awake in world without any root. She was a Queen without her Kingdom. A sister without her sibling. An aunt without her family. She was alone and have no one. It was a fate Elsa understood and painfully came to term with upon understanding that she have attained the impossible; immortality. She had mourned herself ages ago.

But today she sat in the dining room, being served breakfast by a small fey creature whose ears flapped excitedly at the sight of her before hiding her face behind them shyly, and eating with possible family members. She recognized the phoenix tears that Jazz dropped into her drinks and recalled that Danny said that she was sick. That said, he wasn't around. Perhaps he feared that his aura would hurt them further.

Jazz looked at her, "So, Elsa. What do you liked doing in your free time?"

Elsa looked to see Harry peeking at her, equally curious. She smiled, "I enjoyed reading and solving mathematical equation," Harry scrunched his little nose at that and Elsa smiled at him, "My little sister have the same reaction as you. She prefer to bother the horses and the Knights,"

Harry blushed at being caught being disagreeable with her, "Sorry,"

Elsa shook her head, "Don't apologize for having your own thoughts. To each their own,"

Jazz smiled, "Danny might be bad at his math class once but it isn't because he was a bad student. Well...he was a bad student but not for simple reasons," She chuckled, "His education was stunted due to the constant attack on our town growing up. Being the only one with the ability to defend us, he sacrificed much of his studying time and sleep to keep up with the attacks,"

Elsa felt intrigued. She may have access to his memories but that did not mean that she should just invade his privacy. She preferred to learn about this possible husband of hers the normal way, "Do tell,"

Jazz grinned as she looked at Harry, "Well. Danny was just 14 when our parents built a very strange machine..."

Elsa can tell that Harry have heard this tale many times before but she understood that he liked hearing about it. In his little boy's mind, he only saw the adventure. But for Elsa, she saw the undertones of neglect, carelessness, and the death of a teenager that no one even noticed because he came back. Even though there was a teenage ghost, apparently it did not matter as they were more focused on the fact he was a ghost and less on the fact that a child died somewhere in town.

When Harry finally have to go for his music lesson, Jazz looked at her, "You are smiling abut you didn't enjoy the story much, do you?"

Elsa looked at her, her politic smile gone, "A child died and no one question. I am more concerned with that blasé attitude,"

Jazz blinked before smiling, "I like you already. Most people are more awed by the tales of heroism and adventure. Even me. It took me years and having children of my own to realize this. A child died, came back a ghost, and no one even question whose child in town died," She sighed, "We were all to self adsorbed by ourselves and by the adventures to realize that we were depending on a dead boy to keep us safe,"

Elsa looked towards the music room, hearing the violin being played. There was still a little clumsiness to it but it was barely noticeable. She smiled, "He practiced a lot,"

Jazz nodded, "And how did you know that?"

Elsa reminisced, "Growing up, I was given a music tutor. She taught me everything I know about music. That is how I know, to be as good as he is now, he must practiced as much as he can focus,"

It was almost noon when Danny finally appeared, "Alright. All the banks are settled. I opened one in Gringotts and another in HSBC. Now that no one will question where I get my money, we can go shopping," He looked at Elsa, "Where's Harry?"

Elsa answered him, "He's playing with the garden surrounding the natural pool,"

Danny turned around and called for his nephew, "Harry! We are going to London!"

It was a moment later when Harry called back, "Okay!"

Jazz called him, "I'm staying home, Danny. I don't think I should push it,"

Danny looked at her and smiled, "Of course," He looked at Elsa, studying her from the top of her hair that she pulled into a severe bun to her sandals. He hummed, "We have a lot to buy,"

Elsa blinked, "Pardon?"

He looked at her, "What do you think we are doing? We are shopping for you!"

And that was how she find herself in London. It certainly wasn't anything like she read when she was Queen. But that was centuries ago. Danny had Harry around his shoulders. The boy clinging to Danny's black hair, looking like he was given a seat on the Queen's throne. Elsa immediately understood just how much the boy adored his granduncle. Danny must be everything to Harry just like Anna once was to Elsa.

Like this, they really looked like father and son. Danny wore a pair of dark shades, hiding his beautiful eyes. He also insisted that Elsa wear her hair down or wear them in a low ponytail before also grabbing her hand in his, completing the family look.

She listened as he talked to Harry, the boy pointing him things that only he can see from his vantage point. Danny also asked Harry what sort of fashion Elsa should be wearing. Harry had looked shyly at her and Elsa kept a welcoming smile on her face. Before her nieces and nephews, she was awkward with young children. But when she figured that she should act like how she behaved with Anna at that age, it was smoother. Of course, she cannot behave as she once did completely. Responsibility as an elder of the family came first, after all.

Harry whispered, "Is she a Princess, Uncle Danny?"

Danny theatrically whispered back, "No. Better. She's a Queen,"

Harry gasped, "Like the Queen?!" He looked at Elsa before blushing and whispering, "She's pretty..."

Elsa hid a smile as Danny just nodded with a slight green tinted blush on his face, "Y-yeah. She's very pretty,"

It wasn't that strange for Elsa when men lose their ability to be coherent before her. Anna always teased her about her attractiveness. If it wasn't because she was the Queen, she would be used as a political pawn for marriage with potential allies. Fortunately, not only did her father did not mind her gender as his heir to the throne, he wanted for his daughter to marry for love. Just like he was with their mother. Still, it wasn't impossible for men to go mad to own her. It was only her power that kept them at bay.

Not to mention, Anna who was just as beautiful, already have a lover when she ascended the throne. Her sister was lucky indeed. A few generations after, her descendant wasn't as lucky but by then Elsa was already pulling away for the sake of keeping peace. Even though she didn't want to rule the kingdom, it cannot be changed that she still have a legitimate claim on the throne and the more ambitious descendants were wary of her.

Danny cleared his throat, "Elsa?" When she looked at him, he gestured, "I think you will need a bunch of these. After all, they are very important,"

Elsa looked at the store and blinked at the blatant sight of undergarments. She noticed that women didn't mind men staring like brain dead fools at the sight of females strutting around in nothing but these small clothes, hiding only the most necessary part while revealing everything. Had Elsa not watched the memories of the world as society changed from conservative to this, she would have felt even more scandalous. As it was, she was blushing bright and trying to not act too much like someone from a time different from this.

Danny asked, "You okay?"

Elsa then realized that he had followed her in and Harry was looking at the brain dead men looking at the advertisement with great concern and confusion. Well, it would be too weird if her 'husband' did not follow in. In the end, she gulped and nodded. As they walked around, Danny pulled her close and whispered, "If they asked about why you are uncomfortable, just say that you were raised in a Puritan community but ran away to marry me. I assure you, they'll just take it in and think it was very brave of you to rebel for love and all that,"

Elsa nodded, "Understood,"

A sales girl approached them, her eyes studying Danny with great interest before looking at Elsa and froze. Elsa have seen those looks. She was stunned. It was a familiar reaction for her. So Elsa only smiled and used the memories around to ask all the right questions about their products. The girl stammered a little, finally noticing Harry clinging to Danny's hand, and deflated when realizing that they must be a family, "W-well...we have these push up cups..."

When Elsa noticed something more familiar, she asked, "And what about your corset line?"

"Well, we have..."

It took her a while to find all the things that she can comfortably use. She was aware that modern people hardly wear corset, if they even sell any, due to the wasp waist trend a few decades back. But Elsa was used to corset and felt more comfortable wearing them. They were not restrictive to her at all. It all depended on how tight she tied her laces and she only ever tied them tight enough that she won't feel uncomfortable. But for the sake of fitting in, she will also wear some of their bras and underwears. Split drawer was no longer a thing.

Danny paid for everything and Elsa tried not to think too much about him inside such a female oriented store. After all, this was his norm. She should get used to this.

Danny then took her to the ladies wear. She immediately realized that wearing something as restrictive as the jeans was not for her. It was because of the shape of her hip and the size of her waist. Elsa have always been told that she have a perfect child rearing hip. Anna proved this as she had easy deliveries of her many children with no complication. But Elsa also have a cinched waist. So any pre-made clothing were hard to fit her, especially pants since if she chose one for her waist, they won't go past her hip and bum. If she chose one to fit over her hip, they will be loose. In the end, she bought many skirts instead.

She also bought many blouses but no button up. Her bust size would strain the front and might popped the button, causing her an unintentional flashing. She also bought a few shirts that was to her taste. The stretchable fabric was perfect for her shape.

At first Danny raised a brow at her choices but then his eyes started measuring her body before a nod of understanding came from him. Elsa may at first appear to be pear shaped but really, her hip was just larger than her chest but she was really hourglass shaped. Since Elsa did not buy much, they finished early at the casual section and decided to visit a restaurant for a late lunch.

Elsa looked at Harry, "Is there anything that Harry wants? Perhaps a visit to the toy shop?"

Harry froze before looking at Danny who was chewing his meat. Elsa took note that Danny liked his meat rare. Perhaps due to his nature. His teeth certainly suggested a more carnivorous diet. Danny noticed Harry quietly looking at him before shrugging, "Sure! We could add more stuff to your toy box!"

Harry ducked his head, shyly saying, "Thank you, Uncle Danny,"

Danny gestured at Elsa, "You should thank Elsa too,"

Harry paused, peeked at Elsa before looking at his food, staying quiet. Elsa noticed Danny frowning but she caught his gaze and shook her head. She will not force the boy to accept her. He must come around on his own. She only need to be patient and prove her worth.

The trip to the toy store was fun. Elsa was ashamed to admit that she was as excited as Harry with all the products all around her. She even have Harry showed her how they were played. He seemed to grow more confident from that interaction. To Elsa, there was nothing wrong with having a child teaching her what she didn't know. After all, these were all new to her.

She noticed Danny smiling at them and poked at Harry. The boy looked at her and she pointed at Danny. Harry saw Danny and waved at him eagerly. After the toy store was dessert. Being a sweet tooth, she quickly joined Harry at needling Danny to have a taste of all the sweets. Danny looked at her, "He's going to have sugar rush and it's almost evening. It will be night when we reach home,"

Elsa pleaded with Harry giving Danny the puppy eyes, "Oh. It isn't everyday. Besides, we could just have him tire himself out at the back with the swimming pool. Jazz told me that Harry missed his swimming today,"

Danny looked at Harry and the boy nodded, "I missed swimming,"

Realizing that he was outvoted and outnumbered, Danny relented, "Fine~!"

In the end, he ate more desserts than the both of them combined. Elsa wondered if he will be suffering extra energy that night. As it was, Harry was buzzing in place while Danny was waiting in line to buy them ice creams. Elsa looked at the River Thames, remembering a time where desserts was something that only the rich can enjoy. As Queen, she was blessed to be able to have as many sweet treats as she desired. It was only discipline and a busy life that kept her in good shape.

She noticed it when a strange man came close to them so she shifted a little closer to her charge, Harry, who was looking at the pigeons as was feeding a little of his cupcake. So when the odd man grabbed the boy, Elsa was already moving to intercept, "Put him down!"

She grabbed hold of the man's middle that grabbed the too quiet Harry, stopping him fro just running off with the boy. The man tried to make her let go by using his free hand to hit her but Elsa ignored the pounding to hold on, screaming kidnapper. The nearby people noticed the commotion and immediately shouted for a police. The man then tried to run but she held on, even though he kneed her. She won't let him take Harry.

"Let go, you wench! Let go!"

"No. Put him down!"

Meanwhile, Elsa remembered Danny telling her to avoid using her magic. There was something called the International Statute of Secrecy that they must adhere to so she unfortunately can't just freeze this kidnapper and take back Harry. She was tempted but Harry was too quiet for her comfort and she didn't want the kidnapper to get away. Such a thing happening in broad daylight could only mean he wasn't the only one. His partner must be near. She must hold on. She tried to grab Harry but the man wasn't letting go.

Suddenly something hit the man's face, causing him to drop the frozen Harry which finally caused the frightened boy to start crying. She grabbed hold of him and pulled away just in time to see Danny picked the man up and threw him into the river. He then looked at Elsa and the trembling Harry, kneeling, "Are you two alright?"

Harry simply held tight to her, refusing to let go. At that moment, a police office finally arrived and Danny immediately gave his side of the story, pointing at the criminal swimming in the dirty river. Elsa ignored all that, instead focusing on calming Harry down. But when they looked down, there was no man in the river. Everyone around gave the same story yet there was no man in the river.

Elsa stared into the water and saw the man disappearing.

She realized with great horror that the man must be a wizard who saw Harry and recognized him as the Boy-Who-Lived. Once Danny was free of the police's questions, she grabbed him and pulled him aside to whisper, "Wizard,"

Danny's tightening jaw told her enough that he did not like what she said. He looked at the now sleeping Harry. He pulled them close and insisted, "Let's go back," He picked up all their shopping bags that was scattered on the ground when he saw what was going on, "Come on,"

Like when they came to London, he used a portal to return home. He made sure they went through first before walking in and closing the portal behind him. Elsa looked at Danny and the man guided her to the family floor which was the highest floor under the attic. There was a spell there that prevented non-family members from climbing higher. He tried to put Harry down but the little boy started crying.

Elsa stopped him, "He needs you,"

Danny had a conflicted look on his face, "Then...you have to stay. It isn't good for him to cling to me. Your energy needs to counter mine. Otherwise, he'll fall sick,"

Elsa understood him and nodded, "Alright. Allow me to change for something more suitable for home,"

Danny nodded, "I'll do the same,"

Elsa had never expected to visit his bedroom, the master bedroom, so soon. But she found him patting Harry down as the boy clung to him. He found her at his door and waved his hand, gesturing for her to join him on the bed. Elsa awkwardly climbed the bed. She then looked at Harry, now in a clean pajama, and asked, "How was he?"

Danny sighed, "He's fine. Shaken, sure. But over all, just a scratch," He pointed at the boy's palm where he had caught himself when the kidnapper dropped him, "He might be getting nightmares tonight, though,"

Elsa hummed, "I'm sorry,"

He raised a brow, "For what?" Noticing her guilt, he shook his head, "You did what you can in that situation. I'm more surprised he didn't just kidnap you along. He could just Apparate away with both of you,"

Elsa thought of it before coming to the conclusion, "Perhaps because I was holding him and refusing to let him run? Magic acted strangely around me,"

Danny accepted her theory, "Maybe. He must have panicked when his magic didn't work the way he wanted to," He smiled at her, "You're perfect,"

Elsa blushed but understood that he meant her ability to nullify magic, "Thank you,"
