A Little Rebellion

Jazz wasn't sure about Elsa at first. But the woman have been nothing but patient with Harry's suspicion and taciturn treatment of her. Though he wasn't cold, he kept his distance. Elsa also did not try to force her presence on the child. If anything, she seemed more concerned with Jazz's health. Though being around Elsa does eased most of her chest pain and the phoenix tears seemed to work better with her appearance at the house, Jazz knew that her days were numbered.

Maybe Elsa's appearance and life giving aura would extend it but her body was already damaged. Danny knew this. It was why he kept away from her as much as possible though at the same time tried to be there as family. But ever since Elsa came, he seemed more confident with sticking around his family. He confided to Jazz that Elsa's aura was powerful enough to counter his and even nullify his life stealing passive. Basically, instead of hers or Harry's life, Danny was feeding off of Elsa's energy.

Even the plants around them looked more lively.

Albus Dumbledore came calling at the end of April to renew their barrier and found that it was actually stronger. He looked at Jazz who informed him about Elsa's passive ability. He was surprised to hear that such a person existed, "No wonder she was hidden by magic itself. Anyone with ill intention would have used her to their own ambition. Nothing good will come of that,"

Jazz nodded, "And I think Danny's protective nature sensed this. He was just as protective of her as he was of Harry and I," She smiled, "Harry is happier that Danny is more open with him and spending more time with us. Although he was still unsure about Elsa. He even behaved bad around her to test her. Elsa was patient but she put her foot down when he went overboard,"

Albus chuckled, "What did he do?"

Jazz smiled, "He knew he won't be able to finish but he insisted on taking more than he can before pushing aside and saying he didn't want to finish. When Danny tried to make him finish it, he pulled his first tantrum. Elsa won't have it. She forced him to finish and lectured him about wasting food. I think Harry learned to not waste food or took more than he could that day. Danny was surprised to see someone freezing the room that wasn't him!" She laughed at the memory.

Harry wasn't happy since no one sided with him. But when he next did what was told, he was praised by everyone. He was quickly learning that Elsa was nothing like Petunia. Oh, she can be doting and sweet with Harry. But when the boy misbehaved, she was quick to correct him. First, gently. If he persisted to misbehave, she will bring out the Queen that she once was. Needless to say, Harry quickly made the distinction. Elsa won't take any backtalk or tantrum from him. She have yet to raise her hand. Jazz have started to wonder if she ever would spank Harry.

Well, it wasn't her that spanked Harry when the boy actually broke a vase on purpose.

It was Danny.

After a long lecture about how the pieces could have hurt him or Jazz or even Elsa, Danny have Harry help clean up the mess he made with his supervision. He even have the boy apologize to Pepper.

Jazz supposed that was the day that Harry learned that Danny can be strict and not just doting. If something was bad, he will made sure that the boy remember it. Jazz was surprised to see this side of Danny. After all, neither Jack nor Maddie cared much about safety growing up. They ate food that was contaminated with synthetic ectoplasm after all. And lab safety was ignored. Otherwise, something as stupid as putting the 'ON' button on the inside won't have happened.

Perhaps his death due to their parents' carelessness created this side of him.

Albus laughed, "Ah, children. This is the age where his personality is starting to really show. I am actually quite happy to hear him testing the water with both of them. He's growing more confident with himself,"

Jazz nodded, "Which is why he wanted to know to what length they will endure his bad behaviors. It was something I recalled my own children do,"

Albus hummed, "He's turning 4 next month, isn't he?"

Jazz nodded, "Yes. He's growing nicely. Even more now that Danny isn't unintentionally stealing his vitality. I noticed that his growth stopped when Danny came. But I never mentioned it to Danny in case he decided to seclude himself on the other side. But I remember when I first met him. You won't believe he was 3. He was so small and fragile looking. But when Elsa joined us, his growth actually kicked in and he was even healthier than when he first stayed with me,"

The two sat under the gazebo that won't look out of place from a Gothic fairytale for a moment, just enjoying their tea and each other's presence. Albus was a little uncomfortable with the elder trees around their house at first but soon grew comfortable. Though the trees were known to be death related, it was also known to be evil repelling. They surrounded the perimeter of their home and strengthening the barriers keeping people with bad intention away. There was even a rowan tree on the front and back of the house. Soothing lavenders lined the fences and path to the house. Although the angelica flowers was a little surprising due to their exorcising nature.

Then again, Danny believed that Voldemort have been reduced to something like an evil spirit. Anything that can help will help. That was the reason why he kept such plants around even though they would most wilt due to his aura. But since Elsa arrived, the flowers thrived and seemed determined to bloom year round. Jazz didn't mind. The scent of lavenders was soothing to her.

Albus asked, "When will you bring him to Hogsmeade?"

Jazz frowned, "They went to London to help Elsa settle in and there was already a kidnapping attempt. I am not sure about taking him somewhere that everyone will recognize him,"

Albus sighed, "Ah. The downside of fame. It is better that he's away from all that. Not even adults can handle fame healthily. The scrutiny. The critics. The stalking. It can be too much for a child,"

Jazz nodded, "I agree. There are children celebrities in my world that ended up indulging in bad habits and acting out in the worse way possible due to stress,"

Albus agreed, "Indeed...but he cannot hide forever. There will be schooling that needed to be done,"

Jazz hummed, "He's doing well. He is already starting to read some of the simpler books. Elsa is starting on his writing and perhaps that was part of his acting out. She was a strict taskmaster. Danny is already starting him on the numbers and science. He made it interesting but Harry, like all children, swore eternal feud with math," She shook her head, "At least the games helped motivate him. That, and Danny is starting to train him on self defense. He didn't want Harry to freeze like he did in London,"

Albus hummed, "Perhaps I should introduce you to some of my contacts?"

Jazz wasn't so keen, "I would rather Harry not be influenced by pureblood talks, Albus,"

Albus nodded, "I understand. But you cannot hide him away forever. It is important that he socialize and learn how to handle his emotions among people at this age. Otherwise, he will be socially stunted at an older age,"

Jazz sighed, "I understand. I remember when Lily first met Severus. I wonder what happened to that boy,"

They discussed more matters before Albus added more security to the Shrieking Shack before walking out of the barrier and disappearing to his next destination. Jazz thought about his offer to introduce Harry to some families that didn't believe in the pureblood nonsense and helped him familiarize with normal everyday magical life. After all, with Danny's influence, Harry was more familiar with mundane people's lifestyle.

Well, as mundane and normal as living in a house constantly visited by powerful ghosts can be.

Jazz mentioned this to Danny who thought about it, "I agree with Albus. I mean, this is the age we send him to kindergarten,"

Elsa thought about it, "But does this community have such a thing?"

Danny scrunched his nose, "I'm not sure,"

Elsa stared into nothing for a moment before saying, "It seems that they are all home schooled and only socialize with close family friends,"

Jazz will never stopped being impressed with how easily Elsa learn something just by digging into the memory of the planet itself. She sighed, "It seemed that we will have to rely on Albus,"

Danny smiled, "Gandalf have people that can be Harry's friend?"

Jazz scowled, "His name is Albus, Danny! Use it!"

Danny snorted, "Nah! He looked like Gandalf from Lord of the Ring. Except he's not gray or white. He's as sparkly as a rainbow. Can't scream gayer than that,"

Jazz rolled her eyes, "This brat. I swear..." After a moment where Elsa hid a smile at their sibling banter, she said, "Well...that aside. What is this giant mirror in your library facing the fireplace?"

Danny grimaced, "The Other Lot figured out where Elsa disappeared to and wanted in," He gestured at the giant mirror that reached the second floor of the library of his office, looking as grand as the fireplace, "That's a direct gate into their realm. Don't worry about Harry going in though. Elsa have them guard the mirror's entrance against uninvited guest so no accidental Alice in Wonderland adventure for him,"

Jazz blinked, "When did that happen?"

He shrugged, "When you were busy making nice with Gandalf?"

The things that happened when her brother's around. Jazz could roll with it. But at least Elsa was there to make sense of things. She knew that the woman was picking up on Danny's quirks and was figuring out what she can and cannot handle. So far, she can handle pretty much many things. They have yet to argue.

Not that Jazz wanted them to start going for each other's throat. But some arguing was known to be healthy between couple. It meant that they trusted the other to be honest with them and to work their kinks out with each other. But since Elsa have yet to say anything and neither did Danny, they have yet to be comfortable with the other. This family have yet to feel like a true family.

Harry's little rebellion towards Danny bringing back Elsa didn't exactly help. Jazz noticed that Harry was conflicted about Danny and Elsa being together. Well, he didn't exactly know that theirs were a contract relationship but he did know that Elsa was supposed to be his mother. Which must be confusing for the poor child as he have yet to call Danny 'Dad'. As far as his mind knew, Elsa was 'stealing' Uncle Danny from him and Jazz. So he naturally treated her as his enemy.

However, at the same time, the fact that Elsa wasn't trying to make him accept her as his mother figure like making him call her 'Mum' was also conflicting for the child. He probably think that Elsa didn't actually want to be his mother. However, she behaved every bit like a mother. Sure, she didn't exactly cook but considering her background, things like cooking, cleaning, and doing laundry were things that was beneath her station. As it were, she was slowly picking up on the simplest domestic work; laundry. Pepper, blessed her, took up the role of her teacher, showing her what type of fabric can be cleaned with what temperature and how the whites must be separated from colored clothes. Pepper, however, refused to let her do the hand washing. Ever since Danny installed the automatic washer and drier, she became stubborn to do the ones that needed hands on washing. Either way, Elsa was picking up roles of a traditional wife.

Harry's opinion of Elsa aside, Jazz didn't have any problem with the former Queen. Although Harry often argued to attend to Jazz, Elsa still did her part to help Jazz around the house. Whenever Jazz felt healthy enough, she will ask Jazz to teach her how to work in the kitchen. It was rather funny to see her reaction to the blender and other modern kitchen technologies. She was especially fond of the whisker. Apparently, in her time when she was Queen, the whisk that the chefs used were made of a handful of twigs tied together. It took far longer than the modern whisk to get anything done.

One thing she was good at was brewing tea. Though she also picked up on how to make numerous types of drinks from Jazz and Pepper. She will then carry the tray of tea and snacks to Danny's office where the man was busily dealing with numerous complains...like the irrigation system for some of the older lairs in the Infinite Realm. They legit thought that they have to fight for it like a tournament when it was a free for all project. The amount of time Jazz heard Danny screaming at his computer screen for them to stop lopping each other's heads and limbs or threatening to not have him come to the court personally...

Fortunately, Elsa didn't bother him much. She would just wait for him to figure things out. When Jazz asked why she did not help Danny, she just looked at her, "He's the King. I am only the outsider. Besides, he knew what he was doing and these are his people. If I butt in, his people might misunderstand or looked down on him as lacking wisdom to lead them. It is better for him to figure things out, even if it is slower than if I share my thoughts or counsel him. A King's image is everything to the people. He cannot appear foolish. My butting in would tarnish that image,"

Jazz snorted, "I am pretty sure that most still remember the times where he acted the fool,"

Elsa smiled, "Even so, they needed to see that he have grown wiser since,"

Basically, she respected him and didn't want to butt in just to be smart. Jazz smiled at the memory. Elsa wasn't much of a talker. But she certainly loved singing. Originally she only sang traditional songs and operas. But after Danny heard her once, he added radio to the house and even managed to hooked a karaoke set in their fun room where the giant flat screen telly was along with out of place sound systems that Jazz was sure was even more modern than the ones in this era. Hell, the gaming consoles and the games were all so out of place.

Danny loved his technologies and it showed. Jazz can't even be mad about it as he would bring back products from the future or Far Frozen and messed around with it until it can be used in their house despite the magic filled air. Because of this, Harry will be so confused when he enter the mundane world as everything will look so backward. As a child, he probably hardly noticed anything but he will once older and have friends from that side when he go to Hogwarts.

Oh well. At least Jazz wasn't bored with all the movies and videos. Elsa insisted that Harry watched as much documentary on the natural world as possible so he will learn to respect nature. Of course, she asked Danny to make it a family thing to encourage the boy. Jazz didn't mind. She liked nature documentaries. Though she and Elsa enjoyed late night true crimes documentaries too, eating ice cream and other snacks...much to her little brother's horror.

It amused her when she saw Danny hid the shovel only for Pepper to put it back in the gardening shack.

Well, he might not be able to die but being killed still hurt.

Jazz yawned as she walked through the winding path of the wetland filter, the swaying branches of the giant willows that Danny somehow managed to egg Undergrowth to grow in exchange of shortening his imprisonment time was relaxing to see. Water hyacinth and northern blue flags grew in large abundance all around the little stone path. Fishes swam around underneath. A few frogs croaked. Birds flew overhead. She watched as Harry hopped around like a frog himself as he looked into the wetland below. Meanwhile, a birds and butterflies flew all around Elsa. The flowers blooming with her passing.

Everything was peaceful...until Elsa called out to Harry, "Harry. There is a snake near. Come close,"

Harry looked at her before ignoring her. Jazz watched as Harry stubbornly refused to move. She frowned as a long slender body swam lazily closer and closer near to where Harry was squatting. She came close to him, "Harry. Sweet heart. Come here,"

He didn't listen. Instead he was hissing at the snake. But it wasn't just the kind of hissing that children make when mimicking an animal. No. He was hissing like it was a language. Elsa stepped closer as the snake stopped swimming to look at Harry. Jazz felt her blood rush at the sight of the moccasin. At least, she thought it was a moccasin. She didn't like this. She fret, "Harry!"

Harry looked at her and answered, "He just want some food," He pointed, "There's a family of frogs there,"

Elsa hummed, "Can you tell him to not bite anyone and to keep away from the path? Jazz liked using this path but I don't think she's keen at the idea of snakes. Especially one with venom,"

Harry scowled at her, "...you can't tell me what to do,"

Elsa looked at him, "Harry-,"

He stomped his feet, "You're not my mum! You can't tell me what to do!"

Jazz frowned. It seemed like things were coming to a head now. She looked at the snake who now watched them warily. She worry that the snake might perceive either one of them as a threat to Harry, who can apparently talk to snakes, and strike. She called out, "Harry. Calm down-,"

Harry shouted, "No! I won't calm down! She's not my mum! My mum is dead! She's not my mum! I won't let you steal my family from me!"

The snake started hissing, angry with him.

Elsa pursed her lips before kneeling down, "I will not be your mother if you do not wish me to be one," This caught his attention, "Didn't I say so when we met? I am not here to replace anyone. I am here to help you grow into a respectable gentleman. And at this moment, you are being anything but a respectable gentleman. Look at your Nanna. She is scared of the snake and your tantrum is causing the snake to feel agitated," When he looked at the angry snake and then at Jazz, she added, "I am asking you to be careful and to help your new friend here to be safe. If he attack your Nanna or I or even you by mistake, your know your Uncle Danny will not hold back. Your safety, his family, is everything to him. That is all,"

Harry sniffled before looking at her, "You don't want to be my mum?"

Elsa sighed, "That decision is up to you Harry. You must want me to be your mother from the heart. Otherwise, it is pointless and we might get hurt or even hate each other. Family isn't just blood, Harry. It comes and begins from the heart. Now, you are a very intelligent young man and I know you love your Nanna dearly. But your Nanna cannot understand your snake like you do. All she can see is danger and this particular species are venomous. He won't just hurt your Nanna if he strike. So please, ask him to stay away from the swimming pool, the house, and the path. It is as much for his sake as it is for us,"

Harry stared at her before hissing at the moccasin. The snake hissed back and they seemed to 'discuss' something before the snake slithered away. Harry looked at her, "He promised to stay away and to be nice to the human here. Just don't step on him or kick him when he say hi,"

Elsa stood up and smiled gently at him, "I will do my best not to,"

Jazz sighed and Elsa stepped closer to her as she swayed a little from the fright she just experienced. Harry stared at her before hugging her, "I'm sorry, Nanna,"

Jazz hugged him back, "Good lad,"

Later that night, after Harry fell asleep, she looked at Elsa, "Thank you for this evening. That was possibly the most dangerous rebellion he had ever committed," She then said, "I'm surprised you didn't tell Danny,"

Elsa sighed, "I don't think more scolding will do good for Harry. Knowing Danny, he would lecture Harry further and the process of adsorbing today's lesson will only be interrupted by frustration and the feeling of injustice. He's very smart and he's reasonable for his age. I am sure he understand the importance of being considerate to the people around him,"

Jazz hummed, turning on the true crime channel, "He is, isn't he?"

Since that day though, Jazz noticed a change within Harry. He argued with Elsa less and would behave as he once did. After all, Elsa had assured him once again that she will not insert herself into his life more than necessary if that wasn't what he wanted. She will play the role of Nanny if that was the only role he can take from her. But if he desired for more, she will comply and took on the role of mother. In her own way, she showed that she will not steal his family from him. As it were, she was hardly close to Danny. If anything, she acted almost like a secretary with how she reminded him to eat when he was swamped with work.

When Harry noticed the respectful distance, as well as the fact that they slept in separate room on the opposite side of the house, he relaxed further. His confusion regarding Elsa was still there, Jazz noted, but he wasn't as against her presence in their home as he was the past few weeks. If anything, he seemed to be curious about her as a person now rather than as an interloper like he saw her before. Jazz smiled, knowing that everything will be fine between the two. As it were, Elsa was already starting Harry on art lessons once he was better with his calligraphy lessons. He seemed happier now that he didn't have to write the same letter on repeat. Still, his handwriting was far better than Jazz was at that age.
